    So give the light w/velcro a firm press and left right left right as the loop pile digs inn better in my opinion. Now for my saftey feelings ? What if ?. I put a back up (Landyurd) if you will ...I wraped a skiinny rubber band around drone and lights .i trust the velcro . Its "3 M" . AND NEVER HAS 3 M. Let me down... any way ty.

    I like the low profile of the Vifly, although the LumeCube look more robust. Still I think I'd consider mounting a couple of Viflys on my Mavic 2 Pro. One on top and one visible from underneath. Thanks for the test and comparison. 😊👍🌟

    Great video comparing the two side by side Ed. I’m really digging the VIFLY strobe over the Lume Cube because it’s smaller and less cumbersome. It also does the job from the looks of it.

    The interference with collision sensors is probably the square wave capacitor charging and then the capacitor discharging. Square wave charging makes a lot of RF racket on radio frequencies that can get onto wires or unprotected circuit-boards interfering with what sensors are reading.

      @@EdRickerVlogs true to a certain extent. installation on the lower body itself is a nogo unless you want to hand catch/release it HOWEVER you zip tie the vifly to the underside of one of the motor mount arms. facing downwards. the drones gyro will compensate for any balance issues from the drone not being symmetrical from a weight perspective

    I know these are lightweight but do you feel any change to performance? Do you have any data on what this does to the CG of the aircraft? I bought a Lume Cube about 6 weeks ago but have been looking for guidance on mounting for the best performance and haven't found it yet.

    • @EdRickerVlogs
      @EdRickerVlogs  3 роки тому +1

      I don't think you'll have any meaningful difference with the CG of the aircraft. If it's a Mavic MIni we're talking about, then perhaps...but even then, it shouldn't be much. Anything Mavic Air 2 size or larger will be just fine.
      It takes a lot of deviation for me to feel any performance difference with a DJI aircraft anyway. They already fly themselves haha!

    • @robertfazekas4607
      @robertfazekas4607 3 роки тому

      I felt a big difference, when I using it, when I go forward with the drone I have to push the controller stick harder because of the air resistance 😁

    • @EdRickerVlogs
      @EdRickerVlogs  3 роки тому +1

      I wonder how much of that is placebo. It would be interesting to have someone launch you up with and without it, and you try to guess which flight has the light attached once you take over the controls.

    Does 6 grams bring DJI mini 2 over legal weight??

    • @EdRickerVlogs
      @EdRickerVlogs  3 роки тому

      Yes it brings it over 250 grams. You'd technically have to register with the FAA if your all-up weight is over 250 grams. But at 255 grams total, it would be just barely over. Decide for yourself if you fly often enough at night to justify registering for those rare occasions. If you plan to keep the strobe on your drone all the time regardless of time of day, then that's a little bit different.

    • @ericmcampbell477
      @ericmcampbell477 2 роки тому

      238 + 6 = 244
      244 < 250
      You could put 2 vifly strobes on a mini 2 and be < 250g because it's really like 237.7 grams

    • @bladiangod
      @bladiangod 2 роки тому

      Hi Richard. I would say having one Vifly led strobe(at 6g) would be fine for a DJI mini 2/DJI mini SE. my Mini SE is 240g and so i can fit one comfortably aswell. All that matters is that the take off weight is 249g or lower for your drone to still be classed in the A1/C0 category

  • @B0M0A0K
    @B0M0A0K 2 роки тому +2

    Sorry Ed, but aren't you missing the point here. YOU aren't supposed to be able to see these lights. They are intended for aircraft operating above your drone so they may see them no problem. It's not important if you can see them or not as the operator (although it would be a help for VLOS in the dark).

    • @EdRickerVlogs
      @EdRickerVlogs  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, but the angle of visibility of the light should be taken into consideration as well. The whole point is to avoid collisions, so the light is of less use if it can only be viewed from an angle above the aircraft. If the drone is at 400' and a helicopter is approaching at 300', it should be just as viewable.
      I've seen some people attach a second light to the bottom of the drone to account for this possibility.
      A side benefit of using a light like this is it gives the drone a bit of professional legitimacy in the sky. We've all see a drone buzz around with the stock red and green lights, but adding a super bright strobe changes the look of the drone from a ground level bystander's perspective. The more lights added, the less it looks like it's spying or up to no good to the general public. Just my thought.

      Where I live and fly the rule is VLOS at all times. Thus this little light is a GREAT thing to extend my practical flight range from about 500-700 metres, to something much more. I noticed the other day when flying low down in a valley to video a waterfall, the drone simply disappeared, even at 200-300 metres, against the surrounding vegetation of the valley sides. Looking at buying one of these, to mount beneath the Air2S.
