a few things i wanted to add 1, all pet birds require a decent amount of your time for social interaction 2, cockatiels bite harder, but budgies seem to bite more often 3, when it comes to co-habitation with difrent species, budgies may not be the best choice as they tend to bully calmer birds (even something notably larger like a cockatiel)
Never give a bird a mirror. While it may appear "cute" to see them interact with their reflections, they do not understand that it's not another bird. Pet birds can become obsessed with mirrors and they can stimulate aggressive and hormonal behaviors. There are tons of other safe toys out there for your birds.
My budgies have their own room and refuse to go in their cage. I only put them in cage if it is a matter of safety and it is not often. They also have a playground perch and an aqurium with branches in it. They prefer to sleep in the branches and tend to stay in their home area. They really are much smarter than people realizeand know where their own area or home is. My budgies are very tame but not trained lol they don't listen to me for anything. They seem to want to play non stop with me. They will fly over my head and softly hit the top of my head as they fly by and I have 1 who will even smack me on the side of my face with his wing until I chase them. I am not even exegerating they are like having the worlds most playful 3 year old child. If I ignore them they will keep flying by and hitting me to get my attention to chase them. When I work from home they will land on my monitor and tap with their beaks until I give them attention. So for me budgies rule but I think it is really more about your connection with your birds than what type of bird it is. The more love you put in them the more love they give back. To anyone reading this that has birds they keep in the cage most of the time start letting your birds out a lot more and after a short time you will be shocked at how loving and playful they will become with you. Oh by the way when I put them to bed at night every night I get a kiss good night from my budgies.

Cockatiels ❤
😍😍
Actually both are cute and lovely, why choose when you can have both?
Cockatiels because you can keep them outside the cage and they dont fly everywhere all the time
