    Great informal video and very helpful
    I also keep a pillowcase for each bird near their cage in case of emergency

    I have betadine solution in there to disinfect wounds. And I have nail clippers in there as well, in case their nail gets stuck in something and they cannot get out. I also have coconut water in my fridge for natural electrolytes for the birds and for humans to drink as well. The syringes I have are super tiny, and my birds are syringe trained with them so if we ever have to medicate them, it doesn’t have to be stressful. And there are some treats in there as well, so if we ever run out of treats when a bird is sick, we have emergency treats. I also have kwik stop, cotton pads, gauze pads, vet wrap, small towel (in case we have to towel them to transfer into hospital cage or for medication or anything like that), and paper towel.

      Thanks for sharing your first aid kit! I also have my nail scissors and towels but they are separate from the kit and easy to access 😊

      Betadine is definitely usefull, when I get birds with maggots come in as rescues it always helps with that!

      @@chrish564 yeah it's very common, especially with young birds of prey their nest is filled with stinky stuff so flies are attracted to the nest, lay eggs, and eventually the maggots get under the bird's wings!

    Not really about health, but we are sometimes experimenting power failures in our area, so we also add a flashlight with battery just in case it happens during their daily cage out time (we won't use candles for obvious reasons).

      That's a good thigs to have on hand! We are lucky in that we rarely experience power outages put we have plans in place just in case!

    In my past budgies kit I had chamomile tea (I grow the flowers so I know they are 100% safe - dry them out and then when I need it i can just steep the tea and let it cool down) I used it when my budgie just got out of the vet's office and was on medications and was told to make sure she wasn't too active (she wasn't a fan of that) so I gave her some cooled down chamomile tea and it calmed her down.

      Awesome! We use chamomile regularly too - such an amazing flower for birds :)

    There is a fork in the tree stand where the branches diverge and I was studying. My African Grey just somehow got her head stuck and didn't have a perch so was kicking her little legs in a panic. I grabbed her and popped her head forward. I've gotten too lax and usually put one in his kennel and leave her on her stand when I go out for an hour (like I did today). I couldn't imagine if this happened when I was out.

      There’s always hidden dangers, I always look twice at everything now and question if there’s a chance the birds could get stuck or hurt!

    What kind of tape is safe for bandaging?

    • @BirdNerdSophie
      @BirdNerdSophie  Рік тому

      I don’t recommend bandaging at home unless it’s done wrong and causes more pain but you can have micropore tape on hand!

    Thank you for this video. I already have few bits but need to get few more to complete my first aid box.
    I use Aspall Cyder vinegar. It is also raw, unpasteurised, unfiltered and contains the mother plus it is produced locally. Is Braggs better? I was always wondering about that.

    The breeder im getting a bird from highly recommend having powder charcoal on hand in case the bird ingests a potentially toxic substance. So that might be a good thing to have?

    • @BirdNerdSophie
      @BirdNerdSophie  2 роки тому +2

      I’d be concerned about that as the typical way that vets give charcoal to deal with toxins is to force feed it which I wouldn’t recommend for pet owners to do as it can go wrong!

      Hi Melanie - I normally get mine from Amazon but the listing is showing a photo of the wrong product!
      Here's another place you can get it, or you can type in F1- Germicidal Barrier Ointment to Google to find better prices :) www.scarlettsparrotessentials.co.uk/f10-barrier-ointment-25g?gclid=CjwKCAiA_omPBhBBEiwAcg7smZA5dPCH3jM2Xgo7MbXfNkKTqm-ZeCWCzhN_PHVWR1Q60htVCOn6oBoC9JQQAvD_BwE
