“You have to be a cat lover to understand” as a HUGE cat lover I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW SHE CAN LOVE THEM YET PUT THEM IN THOSE CONDITIONS
Right?! I'm a huge cat lover and its actually WHY I keep my house clean. I don't want my little dummies to eat plastic and choke, as that's one of their favorite activities.
I agree
We have a community cat situation, and we spay and neuter them, feed them, and even built them their own enclosure to go in at night.
Needless to say, our cat enclosure, occupied by a dozen cats every night and oftentimes during the day, is massively cleaner than her house. Yes, they do dirty it up fast, but I do a big clean every two weeks as well as little things in between.
It's not perfect, and even though we do our best you spread yourself thin when there are a lot of them. You also risk diseases and illnesses getting passed around more. And it gets very irritating when other people go and get cats, don't spay and neuter, then let them outside. The last set of kittens we helped were not from feral cats. All of our ferals were fixed, save for a couple wandering males we haven't caught. The kittens were from an irresponsible owner a few doors down. They're cats hardly even go to their house anymore - they constantly hang out at our house, despite the fact that we used to have to shoo them away because they would fight with our cats. Our house was still better, in their opinion.
Yes, taking care of the kittens should have been their responsibility, but they didn't even take care of the cats they adopted. The kittens got panleukopenia, and they would have all died if we hadn't cared for them. I can't be mad at them for the mistakes of their mom's owners.
That said - spay and neuter your cats.
@@emeryltekutsu4357 the third paragraph of that reminds me of a post i saw where someone's neighbor's cat chose their home to die in because the owner was such a piece of shit. you have to be a really horrible cat owner for your cat to choose someone else (who just gave them the most basic love and care) over you. cats usually hide when they know they are dying. if a cat chooses to die in your arms or in your space, they trust you on a very deep level. iirc the cat was an indoor-outdoor cat, which is why it went to the neighbor's house sometimes (or most of the time, i really dont remember) to sleep and eat. my heart goes out to all of the cats with bad owners. it is truly despicable behavior to mistreat animals, especially the ones who rely on you.
EXACTLY! I WOULD NEVER LET MY BABY BOY KITTY CAT BE EXPOSED TO THIS 😭
Just wanted to point out that 13 dead out of 36 total is 36%. More than a third of the cats in that house were dead and Vula has the audacity to say the cats aren’t dying
and six of those were only a day old
And she still got two of those 36 cats back...
@@lookiepookie5744 you’re right! That makes it worse! The day prior there would’ve been 13 out of 30 dead, which is 43%
@@lookiepookie5744 And wouldn't have survived the night if the cleaning crew hadn't found them. Would have had 19 dead cats if they'd arrived a few days later.
And she claims to love them. That isn't love.
As soon as she started complaining about the cleaning I felt like she should have been arrested for animal cruelty to those cats. She completely disregarded their wellbeing.
She should have been, but, she was sick 🙄
@@xwannabeetinkerbellx She's a monster. Sick or not, they need to be more firm about it. Let her know how depraved and dangerous that behavior is. They just use the baby gloves, and that's never going to help.
They most likely would have if she wasn't elderly and infirm. As horrible as the implications are, many jurisdictions are hesitant to imprison older people because of the risk of medical costs.
@@drakemallard1486 No matter hard you go at her, she still will not see anything wrong. She is quite literally delusional thinking that she is okay living the way she does.
As soon as I saw that first cat jump from one kitchen table to another, I thought "Oh shit, there are some dead animals under all this, aren't there?" 😢😢😡😡
She should never be allowed to have any animals again after she left 13 cats to die there. That is neglect and abuse.
Yet she was aloud 2 of them back. Only in America… 💀
Bruh
goodwill employee here. The amount of customers who give off "hoarder" vibes is terrifying. I seriously am concerned for several of our regular customers. For example, we had someone once who had like a full on breakdown in our store. We made closing announcements and everything, but as we were doing our final checks, I found this random woman in the back corner of the store. We took down the last register drawer and we told her she couldn't check out and had to leave. She started pleaded every excuse you could think of. "I have no power" "My basement is flooded" and like 5 other things. We saw her car when she left. Idk how she drove anywhere. Papers, stuffed animals, clothes, etc. was piled so high you couldn't see out of the back window. I wish we were able to deny purchases to shoppers, for their own well-being, but unfortunately it's retail; we don't do anything outside of selling the items
@@zina-alex yes, this was the wild part. We had to hold her stuff overnight because we had taken all the registers down (cue the begging and pleading), but the next day she came back about five minutes before we closed and was like “I’m gonna look around some more.” HALF AN HOUR passes and we finally managed to guide her to check out. She asked me to go look for some random painting she thought was put back. I just did a lap around the store and said no. She finally left and I think she paid like 200 bucks for all the junk. Not the worst total I’ve seen but yeesh
Most places, if you work a register, you have the right to refuse service.
damn. business execs care about the money more than the folks, huh? can you at least call someone who could help the potential hoarders?
@@hydrashade1851 If that is an option, it's not one that's made clear to us cashiers, unfortunately
@@ZeroTheGam3r Right, because cashiers being able to call "help" for random strangers that you make assumptions about isn't the worst idea in the world. You're a retail worker not a doctor. And we've seen plenty of doctors abuse their power.
She doesnt deserve any of those animals. I cant believe they gave back two.
This show routinely enables animal abusers. TLC is a sideshow
Same, absolutely ridiculous
It's a little like an addiction. You take it all, the addict panics, scoops up more than they can handle, hides it better and rages. You cut down and it hurts but it becomes a little more manageable.
You also have to consider the loneliness of an empty house, she will fill it one way or the other. Her kids/carers and police/adult services can now name the cats, specifically ask where X and Y are and hold her accountable.
She needs something to love, the cats need eachother this gives her a set point to fight her addiction from and a set point her loved ones can help hold her to.
It's a gamble. But she's more likely to fail without it. Those cats are heros
Think about it like this: she lost pretty much everything because of an uncontrolled disease. Yes she refused help for majority, however when she finally did, her house is now live able. My guess is the police and association will heavily watch her. One of those cats so much as coughs, they will be taken from her.
My mom has a hoarding disorder. She hoards mostly dog (medium size dogs and small dogs) she's living with my grandma (her mom) nobody wants to come over cause of the smell and how bad it is. The city told her she needs to get rid of those dogs, she can only have up to 4 dogs. They need to be fixed and in healthy conditions. They told her if she doesn't clean up the house she'll be kicked out and her mom (my grandma) will be moved into a old folks home, so she can have round the care help. Me and my husband thinks that's too much just one dog will do. She's going through a lot of things, she just survived a level 3 throat cancer that her doctors ignore including E.R doctors. It wasn't till her throat was swollen that they found out it was cancer. She has to take care of her mom who can't do anything without someone helping her. Before my mom moved into grandma house, nobody was taking care of her and she had neighbors come in once a day to check on her. My aunt that lives literally across the street from grandma house never once check on her, nor visited her to see if she's okay. My grandma lived off of microwave dinners and sugar free jellos. That's it. All this stress broke my mom, and since me and my brothers and sister don't call her everyday or every so often and we don't visit her. She became attached to the dogs and see them as her family. It's me and my siblings fault for not talking to her and see her, she have to take care of her medical issue and her mom's. So I'm hoping me and my husband can at least help her get rid of the dogs, but I can see that being a really big issue.
Those two poor cats that were returned to her missed out on a home with people who would have loved and actually taken care of them. 😭
She decided not to take them back
Fr like if you can’t take care of them it’s best to give them to a good person who would love your fur baby
Literally more than a third of her cats were dead and they had the audacity to give her 2 of them back?!
@@RamenAddict369exactly, I can’t believe they gave them back.
Rest in peace kitties 😩 😿
She needs to be charged with animal cruelty. That is unacceptable...
True but sometimes these people are very mentally ill and lonely so they get cats. Yeah it's cruel and I wish there was a better guideline for shelters to not allow people to adopt cats who are like this.
@@landofsweet101 Well it also starts with a handful and then, y’know they do their business and you end up with 36
And receive (mandatory) but affordable mental health care.
@@KATinBLACK only if you won't or can't afford to neuter or spay. It's a preventable issue if your brain can comprehend the problems you'll have with generation after generation of inbred cats.
As a vet technician student who has worked at a vet clinic for a little over 4years. It's your job as a pet owner first and foremost is to be able to provide for that animals needs not only the necessities but also the routine vet visits like vaccines so if someone gets bit the person doesn't get rabies which is why I hate people who are like my cats don't go outside. I don't need them to get vaccines. Yes you do cause it's a safety issue for yourself and the health of your animals. Amd not getting them spayed or neutered is what ticks me off the most. Look at how many cats and dogs are put down in shelters cause of the "back yard breeders" aka idiots that want fast cash and no respect for the animals welfare and care.
I never usually feel any legitimate anger watching these kinds of videos, but the fact that this woman had 13 DEAD CATS in her house fills me with unmeasurable rage. And her getting 2 of them back just makes me even angrier. Cats are such an important part of my life, there's always been at least 3 living in the house since I was a baby, we currently have 7 of them and I love them more than anything in the world, so seeing how this woman treats hers... it actually hurts me. I cannot believe that nobody charged her for animal cruelty. And she has the audacity to say that she loves them.
I agree, I've been surrounded by cats since I was little, there was a cat I considered my own son, they're pure empathetic creatures deserving of a healthy environment, I have no sympathy for this heartless cat murdering witch.
Like. At that point I would leave those cats outside. They're better off OUTSIDE of her house... yeah. I don't think a human should live there either at that point. So gross.
She is very mentally ill and physically disabled. She doesn't directly harm her cats, so getting two back once the house is clean is fine, she needs that for her mental stability. It would be cruel to charge an old disabled woman who suffers from extreme hoarding and likely dementia with animal cruelty because she was unknowingly harming her cats.
I used to know a woman who lived in a trailer home with 23 cats. She took incredibly good care of them, none of them were sickly or dysfunctional, and her home and litterboxes were always perfectly clean. On the other hand, I grew up in similar conditions to a lot of these hoarders and worse, and it's had a lasting effect on my health.
It sucks growing up and discovering all the health issues you have purely because of environments, neglect and other things out of your controll as a child.
-person who grew up in a rat and black mold infested cabin
I felt bad for her until I saw those poor animals. She's lucky they didn't charge her with animal cruelty.
Exactly. It makes me upset to see animals in that situation.
They should've. Those living conditions were unacceptable!
Whole comment section crying over cats it’s wild, 13 gotta be some kind of messed up record
At least neglect
@@sayastraI'm just going to say it since everyone here is oblivious to the laws. Abuse is only if you abuse the animals. Her crappy living conditions were the cause of death. Not her abuse. She didn't abuse the animals she just let them live in crappy conditions. Neglect is pretty accurate but then again it's hard to call it neglect. Neglect is one thing but it can be argued she doesn't know the 13 cats who died exist. As she wouldn't have even know about those kittens if they hadn't found them when cleaning. If she adopted the cat then yes it would be neglect. If she knew of the cats then it would be neglect.
Man, this one was depressing af. Those poor cats. That woman is clearly not well or able to care for herself and others and should be living in a care home. I am so disgusted that they returned any of those poor cats. The cats didn't choose that life, that's heartbreaking.
She's fine. Bad actions don't equal mental illness 100 percent of the time. She's just a lazy animal abuser
I work at an animal shelter and it's always so frustrating to me when the government has us send animals back to the hoarders/abusers. They took them away for a reason and they shouldn't be given back. We take care of those cats or dogs and develop relationships with them and to know that a few of them will be going right back to that environment is painful. We even got a parrot hoarding case and they had us give all the birds back to the woman.
@@sophielauren7821 That's awful. :( That must be heartbreaking.

Also her: *clearly abusing and neglecting them*
Her: they love it here
Jesus christ I'm glad they came when they did. I can't imagine what would of happened to those kittens if they weren't found literally a day after they were born. Poor things would of either died from bacteria or been crushed if they wondered off 😭😩
Those poor kitties.
thank god mama picked somewhere safe to have them. Also, I only didn't notice a very old cat with that mama belly having babies once and she had them behind some mild hoarding in our basement and we found them after a day. They are noisy! And that cat looked like you should notice a pooch is babies.
Courtesy of my mama. I thought it was mostly furniture (she bought about 10 waiting room chairs!) the couch, broken vacuums, old toys, my brother's things from when he lived there (and he would hide things like empty snack containers) and clothes, but she kept clothes no matter the condition, they were on the floor, and I did find actual trash that had somehow never made it into a can. It was in a little better condition then, though, but the location she chose was old toys and clothes strewn on the floor.
She was also suchal a secretive cat that she also repeatedly brought her kittens inside that couch and we had to go fetch them. Anyone left the basement door open would catch her with one in her mouth and have some counting to do.
She was an indoor outdoor cat and very strange, she had picked us after some of our neighbors had moved away and probably left her as no flyers had been put up.
I have noticed some hoarding tendencies in my sister, though she does the food kind.
It made me absolutely SOB to see the condition those cats were living in, especially to find out that 13 of them were deceased. I’m absolutely heartbroken and infuriated that there are people who exist in this world who are cruel to animals like this. She absolutely does not deserve the two cats that were given back to her. She deserves animal cruelty charges for her torture.
She's clearly sick in the head. I presume that her perception of reality is so twisted there's really no hope for her. I guess she should be charged for animal cruelty, and the poor cats should be taken as far away from her as possible, but apart from that, nothing else can be done. I'm not trying to justify her in the slightest, but no one will ever prove to her that she's in the wrong. She just doesn't get it, and never will, because she's nuts
Just in case someone is hating on dude for not letting his mom live with him.... I can attest... That THEY WILL DO IT TO YOUR HOUSE. And then they will say 'well, its not my house. Why would I take care of it?' 🙃
i can tell you for sure she definitely did it to him before
She needs to be in assisted living definitely
That level of hoarding does not occur in a day, he probably experienced it first-hand and knew the entire thing would repeat itself
They will only do it to your house if you let them. My mother is a hoarder and stayed with me for about a year. Because of the way I grew up I literally set aside at least an hour every day to throw things away that I don’t need in my house. I also had to approve anything she brought to my house. If she brought in stuff that I didn’t want or I saw it getting out of control I tossed it and that’s just all there is to it. Some people can’t have that kind of relationship with their parents and that’s fine. But you have to remember that people only gray you the way you allow them to. If his way of not being victimized is to refuse her staying with him then whatever but it does feel extreme to me. But I can’t judge him for his feelings.
ngl I'm looking down at the people that judge him. His moms a love bombing animal killer with an addict. Imagine what she was like when they were kids.
Seeing how easily the cats cooperated I think they wanted out of there too 😂
Probably too sick to fight back 😢
13 of them were dead
On a serious note I have hoarding tendencies and spent the past 3 years practicing being organized and clean. I was raised in a hoard and grew to be comfortable in it. After I had my son, I realized how unhealthy it was. I don't want him living like that. If you're struggling; there are people who care and will help you get into a healthier mind set.
I grew up like that too. It's an uphill battle.
same except i did not have kids I was to scared .... to repeat the patern.
My house had at least 2 deceased relatives' things filling half of the rooms. Moving it out and moving our stuff in was tough, and the house has been cluttered for 4 years. It's like 75% better. But we now have an 18 month old, so I'm trying to clean and organize everything. I have some hoarding tendencies, but I'm trying to give my daughter a happy normal childhood. She deserves that and so much more.
@@silver5866 hope it goes ok for you. If you need resources be sure to check with local DSHS buildings or churches.
Same here, but every now and then I go a little crazy and try to give everything I own to goodwill because I'm overwhelmed.
My father is a hoarder and our house looked like this growing up. This show is so upsetting for so many reasons
I understand. I am very diligent with my cat's hygiene and changing her litter because my parents didn't clean up after our pets when we were young. I think it made me want to be exceptionally clean as an adult.

Oh honey don’t watch these things if it upsets you. I often have to not watch things for my mental health.
This show pains my soul. My mom never had hoarding issues in her life until my narcissist Dad slipped into Alcoholism and became abusive af. It started normal, but over time he began to yell at her when she cleaned the house, because then he could see what she didn't get to that day, but would never acknowledge what she DID do and made her feel guilty that he worked and she did 'nothing'. He'd ban us from doing chores, because since she was a stay at home mom all cleaning was 'HER job'. If we tried to do chores of our own volition and tell him we just wanted to help, he'd accuse her of making us lie so she could get 'free labor', so we couldn't even help around the house without getting her in trouble. It wore her down to the point she eventually barely bothered cleaning because she got yelled at less when she didn't clean than when she did. She also began to hold onto more stuff from people she loved as sentimental (even if it was just a school paper) as he got more abusive and withdrew more of his 'love' and ratcheted up the isolation and arguments (he would bully her about not having a license and being a SAHM, but when she'd study and want to go take the test for her liscense he'd gaslight her about how she didn't need it because she didn't have any useful qualities to offer a job anyway).
I vivdly remember when this show 1st premiered, because my mom would watch it as motivation to not let his words get to her and just CLEAN, because she didn't wanna be like these people, and our house and her mental state greatly improved-until my dad picked up on that. Then, because narcissists like to keep people sad and isolated and under their thumb, he began watching it with her just so he could go "That's YOU" and "That's what YOU let our house look like no matter how hard you clean cause you're so useless" throughout the show. And eventually she got sick of hearing it, she stopped watching it, and down the drain went yet another motivating factor of hers to be mentally healthier and distance herself from his abuse. Anything that motivated and inspired her he took away, and anytime she felt good about herself for something she did he would put her down, and her hoarding got worse and worse as his abuse did. I don't even know why I clicked on this video, I thought maybe it'd been long enough ig. The show itself doesn't bother me, but the memories surrounding the show's premiere makes me feel violently ill even when I just see the title flash across my screen. I didn't even make it 3 minutes in, but between the show, the video, and the comments it's all so violently reminiscent of everything heard from my Dad and well-meaning family members growing up I just can't watch it. I'm glad for all of those who do find motivation in this show with no one actively trying to take that from them though, and I wish you all the best in your journey for improvement ❤ And while I'm certainly not perfect, I'm proud to report the only time I've not been able to see the floors in my house as an adult is when it's been covered in moving boxes waiting to be unpacked xx 😊 It's taken a lot of self-teaching and good habit forming, but we'll all get there if we put out minds to it! 💪
I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that but I am glad to hear you're in a better place mentally and physically
Is your mom okay nowadays?🥺❤️
I dont even know what to say, I watch this show to clean my room because I have depression so its hard, my Dad was a horrible person too, this is going to sound horrible but Im glad he's dead and I didn't have to grow up around him

I’ve struggled with hoarding from 9years old I believe, I’m 23 now from Australia and am doing my best to change and understand why I do hoard. I’m a lot better than I used to be! Ive come a long way, I own 2 cats and it breaks my heart to see this woman’s house and know that’s where those cats live, they look so neglected and stressed. My cats have a clean environment because I refuse to let them live in filth, they motivate me to keep things clean and sterile, my hoarding now only takes up my cupboards that’s it. I’m a hoarder and this video really helped me. I began going through all my things and every time I saw something and I thought “I might need this I won’t throw it out” I threw it away. Thank you!
You can do this! We're proud of you for being your own best friend. Thanks for your hard work! ^__^
Yes my best advice is throw everything out all of it
I found that for me at least, moving towards minimalism, is the question of "how often wouldi use this" and if the answer was less than once a month, I get rid of it
I also have a policy of "if my clothes don't fit in my dresser, I get rid of the ones I like least until they fit"
And now, I hate having useless stuff. All it is is clutter, that makes me have to dig for stuff. Life is more convenient now lol
My grandmother was the exact same she was an extreme hoarder and was deeply abusive to my father growing up. Thankfully he made an effort to undo the damage by starting therapy and broke the cycle by cutting his mother out of our lives. I love my dad a lot for having the strength to not let this type of stuff get passed down and I’m grateful every day for the person he has become.

There’s an entire row of kennels purely from one hoarding situation, I’d say about 30 dogs. The person who owned them also hoarded office supplies, so all the dogs were named after office supplies. My favorite is a pitbull mix who’s all white and has one black spot on his eye, his name is paper lolol absolute sweetheart, I always finish up my work as quick as I can to take extra time to play and cuddle with him in his kennel. Sweetest boy.
The fact the Dead cats were only found because of those people instead of their owner after who knows how long is Heartbreaking

Pretty sure the reason why they couldnt fully clean the house and get it to pass is because she kept fighting them on keeping so much stuff that they started running out of time.
Yup. Usually when dealing with someone like that, you can't get anything done while they're around. That's probably why they were able to get it into a livable state while she was at the shelter.

I was 7, was hanging out with their 9 year old son while my dad was trying to convince them to let him adopt a second kitten as well which never happened, I think about that family a lot almost 20 years later and I wonder how they're doing. The house itself was very clean besides the cat pee smell..
it really is selfish to hoard "pets". i really think that's the worst. how could someone be so selfish that they can't see the other living things suffering? she even said it, "as long as I'M able to get around", etc. like she doesn't even care about those cats. she's literally hoarding cats with no regard for them at all, just like everything else she buys. psycho.
Yes the lady says only a cst lover would understand! Poor cats
Some cats, and dogs, love the sound and texture of certain plastics. They sell pet toys with that type of plastic inside. So the animal still has a bit of the texture and definitely the sound of the plastic. Without the danger. I had to buy a "dog toy" for my cat because she loves the texture and sound.
@knockout 👍🐈 Paper bags are popular too! 😂
I bought this spray by Only Natural Pets. It's a calming spray of catnip and other essential oils. For those stressful times of new people, vet trips, thunderstorms etc...I try to let other cat owners know about it because it works well. It's clear and smells like the mint family that it's from. It can be sprayed on curtains, blankets, anything really. Just not directly on your pet. (Who am I kidding? They own us 😂) I'll buy one of those packs with multiple different toys in it. Dump them into a bag and spray the catnip spray on them. Shake the bag. Sometimes I just lay the bag on the floor and let the two cats take out what they want when they want. Other times I'll just toss the toys everywhere. They love it!
I volunteer at my local animal shelter a lot, and sadly hoarding situations are very common. There will be days when at least a dozen cats come in from the same house due to a hoarding situation. It’s animal abuse to allow cats to live in those conditions and neglect them like that.
I'm currently going through this with my family. Having to clean up my grandmothers hoarding house. We would have done it years ago but there was a threat of physical violence. She isn't able to get up and fight us, but lord does she still verbally abuse us while we are trying to respectfully go through the piles and piles of stuff. It is definitely a mental disorder and it is so hurtful when you have someone you love tell you they hate you and wish you were never born, over throwing a couple old recipes away 😓 I don't envy anyone who has to go through it with their family members.
My heart breaks for those cats. They're so innocent and deserve so much better. I hope they received help and got re homed. 🙏
i'm also dissappointed that the sons didnt call animal services on her. i completely understand them not wanting to keep in contact with her, but leaving the cats to their fate is cruel.
Exactly! Shows the Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. It pisses me off even more that they let the hag take back 2 cats after all was said and done. She shows no real love or care for them. She doesn't deserve pets PERIOD!
@@bakedbaker9882 for sure like how did they think she ended up with so many cats?? she probably let them breed with whichever cat they wanted, not caring for their health at all. the family literally has potantial animal abusers because not choosing to take action is abuse on its on. like how hard would it be to snitch on her with an anon call.
@@bakedbaker9882 seriously
I mean, I do agree with you on some level, but on certain situations, the family members simply don’t go around to the houses because when you to grow up around someone like that as an adult, you are nothing to do with those people so often times they truly don’t know how bad it is I had an aunt that was similar to this. We thought she had two cats one day and neighbor called a welfare check on her because she didn’t see her for a couple days. Turns out she fell and broke her hip. She couldn’t get up or move because I’m stuff fell on her, luckily she was OK but turns out she had 16 cats. Apparently Sheila Moran never said anything. We eventually had to call adult social services because we couldn’t trust her to live on her own and she had to be put in a home because that house was, it was not salvageable up until that point I always knew stuff like that happen to other people but I’ve never had to deal with a situation like that and I will say this the rest of my life I will never smell something as bad as what I did when I was in the house even with masks and everything until you clean up a hoarding situation you can judge the family members to agree, but in many cases if they grow up with those people they want nothing to do and truly don’t know how bad it is
You think they hung out there? I doubt they knew the full extent. They rarely do.
my baby was taken from a house like this. he was one of these cats, pulled out of squaller and filth. he’s 18 years old this year, and he’s the light of my life. the best, most loving cat in the whole world. i’m so grateful for the people who saved him all those years ago.

It's pure horder talent. We have someone upstairs who I stg is a horder of quilting shit. Lady can cram an 8k buck quilting machine in a flat meant for senior and disabled living. How? Just, how?
As someone who struggled with hoarding in a family of hoarders, a lot of it stems from loss. But also food for thought, I got diagnosed with ADHD and put on stimulants and in the first month I got rid of about half of my trash that I had in a storage unit and clean up my life
I have ADHD and I can totally understand. The love of shopping and impulsive behaviors combined makes it easy to bring lots of stuff home. Add in the lack of motivation to clean and declutter from the brain's inability to reward you for completing boring, responsible tasks, and you have a perfect storm.
I had a similar experience. My crippling OCD went from a 10/10 to a 2/10 when I got diagnosed with ADHD and was given medication for it. This was after years of OCD medication having zero effect.
@@Feiy16No shit, because they gave you amphetamines which make even someone who doesn't have ADHD behave the same way. Any meth head will be addicted to cleaning or sorting impulsively.
I really believe this should be a crime, or they at least put these people in a mental institution. These houses are biohazards and often have to be BURNED DOWN.
I think they are given too much choice. When it gets to this point, like you say, they should just be put into an institution and house and contents burned to the ground. No more chances.
Spreading the hoarding culture is all too real. Growing up in a mild-hoarder family, they will ALWAYS give you a random bag full of random stuff they got 2nd hand 15years ago. I always accept and either throw it away or donate it, because I refuse to live that kind of life.
This is how i got a fancy air fryer from my mom.
Yep. Same. Ironically I scolded my mother just earlier this week for being a hoarder and she blamed her roommate friend. I said, “Nooo! Don’t blame her, you’re just as bad if not worse.”
My dad and brothers are hoarders too.
My dad’s family are ALL hoarders. In my house if anything begins to get cluttered, I almost panic and either just start throwing things away or taking to Goodwill.
My family has called me “A Snooty Snot” because I work hard for my husband and kids and do my best to keep my house and property clean and orderly.
And yes, my mother is ALWAYS trying to give me nonsense. I too, just accept it and toss it away because I never asked for it and don’t need it.
Same here! All the women in my family are hoarders due to my grandma. She went through the depression and developed that "well what if we need it down the road?" mindset. So all of my aunts and my mom have struggled with hoarding and always passed stuffed down to me. I even struggle with it because I grew up with my mom doing it. I'm much better thankfully, I refuse to have the house my mother lived in, but it is still a daily battle to look at stuff and ask myself "do I need this right now? Does this serve any purpose in my home at the moment?" And if it's a no, throw it away regardless of how guilty I may feel. My family was also very sentimental, so getting rid of old clothes and toys has been a massive struggle too.
@@MrsNaz-g I’m glad you’re better. God loves you. Romans 8:38-39. ✝️

It's also amazing how much of the stuff that accumulated in the garage wasn't even our stuff... It's stuff that older relatives dumped on us that we just set aside and never did anything with. Things like my MIL's college bicycle (she's in her mid-70s).
Ugh I’m in the same situation, I learned bad cleaning habits from my parents and then the mess is so overwhelming that I just don’t feel motivated to clean it. Thank God I have a friend who likes cleaning and helps me once in a while.

I'm so happy they found the kittens
I immediately started crying when I saw the state of those poor animals.. rip kitties, you didn't deserve having to live in that place
Her offering that truck as a gift reminds me of my hoarder aunt. I accept everything from her eagerly, and then donate or get rid of it. She had over 100 boxes of things when she moved to her new house, and that's after she was forced to get rid of most of it. What I do is manipulative, and she probably thinks my bedroom is full of her gifts, but sometimes manipulation is the only way to help her let go.
After getting a kitten for the first time I was on the verge of tears hearing that 13 cats died in that house. I know she definetly has mental issues but it's hard for me to not hate her for getting so many cats without even being able to care for herself let alone a whole ass animal.
I hate her too, she belongs either in a jail cell or an insane asylum with no pets at all. She lost that privilege when she let 13 cats die. The fact they let get get off scott free is DISGUSTING
you dont have to feel like its hard for you to get sad because she has mental disorders. pet shelters are responsible with choosing the right owners for their adoptees, and they should know better than to give them out to anybody like that. animals help with mental health but if that means she's going to use that to harm any animals, thats where you draw the line.
Hating her is 100% justified.
She's a disgusting pig living in her own body waste.

My bf’s parents should NOT own pets and they were able to get two kittens. They do the bare minimum and the cats have reverted to a feral state since they got a dog that hunts them around the house. These poor things only had their first nail trim at 2 years old because I begged them to get the nails done…. And they apparently had to chase the cats around all morning to get to them so she said they probably won’t do it ever again. These poor babies are stuck in the attic fearing for their lives from that dog that my bf’s sister dumped on her parents… It shouldn’t be this way. None of them should have been screened for animals and passed! But shelters are desperate to save as many as they can…

A hoarder in my home town got evicted and they had so many cats! I was working at the clinic where they were being brought in to get spayed and neutered and it was just heart breaking. A little silver lining to that situation is that I was adopted by one of the cats that was rescued and he has been my best bud for 4 years now. Unfortunately, due to all of the inbreeding in his family tree, he has a heart murmur and his heart is shaped funny so he'll probably have serious medical needs in the future😢. Doesn't matter though, I'll be there for him through whatever may come. It still won't be enough to repay him for what he has done for me though. ❤

This was my grandma. Minus the cats thank goodness. I had to clean it out by myself because the other family members got cut from the will. It was really fascinating, with antiques from around the world, but really hard. If I cleaned before she passed away, she would fill the room back up with new things by my next visit, or find a sentimental letter and demand we stop.
my grandmother was hoarding also, we had to clean her house because the roof was falling in and my relatives found soooo much old stale stuff just buried in the house
Hope you know you’re amazing for trying to help and helping clean out the house at the end ❤️
My uncle is the same, every time I went around to help clean up, the next visit would be worse. After a fair few attempts to clean the place up and finding it even worse than the time before. I had to appeal to the council to get a professional inspector to help. After a year of gentle persuasion to throw stuff out ( wasn’t so much filth but lots of stuff collected since his parents deaths in the 80s), the place was more liveable, but I’m noticing it’s starting to pile up again. Its so sad that they don’t see the problem.

I grew up in a house like this. Totally in denial, on top of being severely neglectful and abusive. She will never change her ways because she doesn't see that it's wrong. She still lives like this, and was living like that since before I was even born, and I'm 27. I cannot understand how. Now I have the exact opposite issue, where even if my house is a little dusty I think it looks that bad.
My case isn't nearly as severe, but it had been cluttered for me and my sister's childhood too, and my sister is the exact same way as you. She does NOT wanna make the same mistakes my mom did (I don't either but not to the extent that she does)
My mom neglected us still does but after a week she finally decides to clean and give us good food
As someone with chronic depression, and often lets things go out of constantly feeling overwhelmed by everything I still do my best. I also have six cats, and while I never wanted that many it's what I was stuck with because I don't believe in kill shelters, and none of the no-kill shelters in my area have room for new arrivals. However, while I may get overwhelmed some days, or don't want to get out of bed or even move for that matter, I know my animals need me and I can't just let them go on their own. My animals are what keep me motivated to do better, if not for myself, then for them at the very least. This woman shouldn't have pets if she can't put them before her own selfishness, and I'm sorry if that is cruel, but that is what I see when she starts complaining about the cleaning. A selfish woman.
Depression sucks ass don't it?
It’s simple: keep an area clean and safe JUST for the animals. I’m a hoarder and i only fucked up two rooms. But my pets were never allowed in there. I also never brought food in there as well. At hers point though, it’s hard to go back.

Fr. What kind of delusional person looks at a blind, mange ridden cat, YOUR own damn cat nonetheless, and say "it's not suffering"?
This is giving me the rare urge to commit violence how dare she say she loves those cats.
My estranged grandma was a hoarder. She recently died and since we were her only family, we were left with the responsibility of cleaning up her house. It took us months to get through the entire house, and even then the house itself will require tons of work to be even remotely ready for putting up on the house market.
That blind cat looked like he was going to mug the camera man for looking his way lmao
I flipped a hoarder house that hadn't been cleaned in over 40 years. It was a family member's home and they fought every time we suggested tidying up or threw something away. We were finally able to clean after they passed. I agree with Buff, the fridge was one of the worst things to clean.
It's a crazy mental illness. They don't think the mess is that bad and believe that people want their junk even if it's nasty. I hope Vula got the right help. ❤
They’re like, “We got good news and bad news. The bad news is we found hazardous chemicals and your house needs to be condemned. Bye.” What was the good news!?
My grandmother was a organized hoarder. Thousands of books, clothes and fake jewelry. Her bed was made of folded clothes. We had to turn to the side to walk down the halls. When she died, it took 5 commercial garbage bins to clean everything out. Because of this I dont even have a couch in my house.
“We’re gonna have a clash” 😆
Whenever I feel unmotivated to clean my house, I just watch an episode of Hoarders and it causes me to jump into action on cleaning my house. 😆👍
I remember this episode
I watched it with my mom when it was on TV and she started crying at the state of the poor cats
I'd done lots of volunteer work with shelter animals so I'd seen stuff like this before and become slightly desensitized (though it's still heartbreaking), but my mom was literally in tears seeing the poor cats and how vile this woman was toward them and their suffering
As soon as I saw that lady's face I got flashbacks to being in shock seeing this episode for the first time
Fr I'm crying rn watching it the fact that 13 of them have died and now they have found kittens like please nooo ffs ;-;
Those poor cats. One of my cats was rescued from a hoarding situation and still struggles with people getting close to her 7 years later.
These cats deserve a better and healthier environment. Like holy shit.
When i read that they gave the cats back after they finally got food drinks water and just general love, i genuinely shed a tear for those poor cats. Especially when right after they revealed that she was just starting her whole addiction again. She is a straight up animal abuser, i feel so bad for those poor cats.
I work for animal control and we just finished (after four months and an eventual court case) dealing with a hoard house where we got 184 cats and 4 dogs out of a one bedroom home. All the cats were so sick and all of them had to get treated for respiratory issues.
if there was 13 dead cats you can imagine the smell in there and she thought its fine
the parts about the cats broke my heart. i struggle myself with mess, but i've never allowed myself to not be able to see the floor-- not even in my own room. my cats world is already small, as i don't allow them outside for their safety (and theyre perfectly happy in my apartment with me.). i couldnt ever imagine making it even smaller for them by covering every single surface with piles and piles of trash. i would never forgive myself.
But realize that these people have a mental disorder that makes them unable to understand what they are doing to their pet is neglect and wrong. They are also being quite neglectful with themselves and don't even understand that! Any sane person couldn't live in conditions like these. Trust me, whenever I see instances of hoarding where animals are involved, I WANT to be angry, but I have to remind myself there's also a very distressed and disturbed human being in this situation, and that they are not 100% at fault.
My mother in law is a hoarder and let me just say: don’t say anything remotely close to suggest help cleaning or throwing some things away because you’ll get on their bad side 😅

@@courtneyallison7328 stand your ground and keep those boundaries. For your kids. Some people send their kids to hang with family in filthy homes just to keep a sick minded person happy. The mental toll of being in that situation is disgusting.
I'm convinced it's a control issue. If their stuff occupies a space, so do their rules concerning it.
My grandfather is a hoarder and once about 10 years ago he went on vacation and I begged my dad to give me the key so I could go clean out his walk out basement. The stairs are so full of boxes you'd never know he HAD stairs if you weren't familiar with his house. He'd totally never have noticed if I cleared out a room or two down there. My dad didn't dare greenlight that project. For birthdays and Christmas, if you got anything from him at all, he'd give you one random box of junk from his house.
These poor cats.. it’s even more infuriating when hoarders bring innocent animals or even their own children into their problems. It’s one thing to have bad mental health, it’s another thing to make others suffer because of it
2:16 there was actually a hoarder whose house was so bad she never knew her son died in the basement!!! She was legally blind and confided to one area of the house and had people bring her groceries. This show is absolutely the BEST thing to watch if you feel tired and you don’t feel like cleaning. An hour or two of watching this, and you will be itching to scrub and scrub until it shines!!!!!
My husband grew up in a hoarders home. Now he has hoarding tendencies. Drives me crazy! Everyone's "junk" ends up at our place especially now that we are FINALLY home owners. And have almost 5 acres. Everytime I turn around he's brought home something "he can use!" Or tells people they can store their stuff at our place. I have tried to clean and organize. But I end up getting overwhelmed and breaking down. I wish I could just burn it all. But he will just start over again. I'm embarrassed to have people come over. Because it looks bad on me! Short of getting my own place, not sure what to do.
Start with having him see a therapist. Or, if it'd make him more open to the idea, you go see a therapist with him. Good 1st step imo. God bless you 🙏🏼
Like the other person said therapy is the right place to start. I'm a hoarder but I'm not as bad anymore. Also a psychiatrist. It's workable
Talk to him about how life means more than stuff. One day it could be too late to do it alone , like this show.
Definitely start with therapy
My whole family are hoarders, it often comes from a place of anxiety or needing to feel in control of sometime. Have an honest chat about how badly it affects you, and see if you can get him into a good therapy program or to a doctor about anxiety.
I work at the Humane society in my area, the amount of stories about cats who came from hoarding houses break my heart. Some have horrible matted fur, missing/fur glued eyes, they never get along with the other cats, and either look like they never eaten a day in their life, or so fat they cant stand properly. Having pets in this kind of house should be labeled as abuse.

My mom had hoarding tendencies. Ours wasn't floor to ceiling, but we still had entirely too much stuff, and my mom didn't like to throw ANYTHING away. It's really exhausting growing up, because you try your best to clean even though it's futile. Regardless, my mom always took care of me! ❤️
Same! I love my mom dearly but hooweee she likes her crafting supplies.
@@KelseyDrummer same with my mum and carfting supplies with me is more note and seckbook but it's cuse we like our carfting and art and cuse I am in uni I need the note books so I know everything will be used.
@@kerrycherry3713 Mom told me to come shopping in her shop before hitting up any others lol!
My Grandma has been a hoarder my whole life and has 20 cats (she neutered and spade them all at least free at our SPCA in Canada) and they all lived in an RV.
Because of that I Spring Clean every year and I clean in the Autumn too, to prepare for being indoors during Winter. Honestly nothing wrong with having 20 cats or 100 cats. As long as you have the means to properly care of those cats and have enough people to give affection to those animals.
My grandma is a hoarder and my family has given up on doing anything. They just basically let her and when she eventually dies they plan to do a controlled burn of the house because there is no point in trying to go through everything. She has the same problem with chihuahuas.
She batshit crazy. It's incredible she survived this long honestly
Thanks for saying hoarders are crazy... make me feel better about myself..
@@JulieVDK01396 He didn't say hoarders are crazy he said she is crazy. To be blunt the whole situation is crazy and she does go a bit crazy. The stuff legally couldn't even go too a dump. She refused to believe that her cats were sick and dying. It doesn't change that she needs help and support.
@@JulieVDK01396 just finished 36 cats in her house. 13 DEAD CATS!!!!!
@@JulieVDK01396 Not all hoarders are crazy, love. Your struggles are valid, but it goes across the line when 13 animals die because of someone's negligence. I wish you the best! 🌸
@@casbites 13 FOUND dead inside her house. I bet it's a lot more than that in actual numbers.
I struggle with OCD and ADHD... Which if you don't know, that is a double whammy for hoarding risk. And I actually used to hoard when I was a teenager. And to this day I catch myself doing it on occasion with my son's old outfits that he out grew and his SEVERAL different colorings/paintings. It's an awful condition and seeing things like this just motivates me to fight my OCD and ADHD even more 💗 I refuse to end up like this.
My biggest "reasons" for hoarding. Was basically one of two things. Doomsday prepping. Or "I may be able to use this for something or craft with it"
@@maddashhshorts5578 The crafting part is definitely me! I have reduced the cardboard that I was keeping under my bed, to just one box - but it's hard sometimes 😅
My heart breaks for the cats. They have done nothing to deserve this.
Haha! Dane said (about the dead cats), "What are you guys eating over there, I don't remember cookin'.. ohhhh noooo."
I've never felt so uncomfortable to not have my fists balled up before until hearing that 13 out of 36 cats were found dead in that pit of hell. The rage that coursed through me then...
I was raised in a hoarding house --it was also infested badly too-- to this day have such a hard time watching this show because it infuriates me... not because they're doing things wrong, but because I'm bitter about these hoarders often being ungrateful for their help, even though I understand it's mostly is caused by poor mental health. It's hard to explain how a "messy house" full of trash, shit and insects can be traumatizing. oof.
