I agree, but he's sorely mistaken. From music to film to television to comedy to paint to the written word there is no greater creator and exporter of art than America. It is deeply ingrained in our culture and a part of everyone's day on a scale the rest of the world could not believe.

I knew Steven back in in 1983 when I worked at the Hit Factory NYC. I was the front desk reception girl. It was great job. My name is Tammy and Steve would come for session singing, Tammy how I love you, my dear young Tammy. He was sincere and charming. He looks the same today as he did then! He has taken good care of himself, that makes me so happy to see.

So a few years ago, myself and my best mate from back home in Oz meet up in San Sebastion (Spain) with our wives and we decide to stay at the best hotel we could afford. Turns out it was the Hotel Maria Cristina, a beautiful old hotel. My mate & I walk in and we’re literally just a couple of Oz surfers on tour and when we walk into the hotel reception on the way to the bar, there’s Steven and Tom Waits sitting on a couch, just chilling and shooting the breeze. We said g’day to them and Steve just said, how ya doin boys? We said fine, on our way to the bar and he replied “ that is the place boys”, gave us a wink and we had a laugh and then had a few bevvies in the bar with our wives. Epic little encounter. And clearly, Steve is still as real and absolutely genuine a person as he was all those years ago. A true legend.

To be a such an essential part of one of the greatest bands in all of human history, unto itself, is extraordinary. To also have been such an essential part of one of the greatest television shows, is beyond measure. The man keeps creating. Standing ovation when he walked in and again when he left. This was during the Covid pandemic and I cannot tell you how much his visit was appreciated. Sounds really corny and it was probably because of that and the fact that he was prepared to appear at such a difficult time that I was actually near to tears at being that close to one of my heroes. How do you feel about the way Bruce dissed him standing right next to him? In case you missed it Bruce went on about them having done nothing at all in life except the music.

@@lucydayLucida Zero diss. Bruce was not diminishing Steve's other accomplishments. Springsteen is simply saying that in a world of "straight" expectations -- go to school, get a steady job, buy a house in the suburbs, etc. -- music is all they had and all they strove for, and it's all that they could really do. Certainly not go to college, certainly not work at the factory. All else they achieved was made possible because of the music.

@@lucydayLucida You mean right after Little Steven said they didn't know how to do anything else? Dude, they were making fun of themselves. They both know how fortunate they are. Sheesh.

I latched on the New Jersey sound of the 70's while in college. "Little" Steven, Southside Johnny, Bruce were part of the soundtrack of my life. Steven's work with Southside Johnny, Disciples of Soul, Gary US Bonds is music that moves me to this day. Thanks!

You cannot underestimate Steve's arrangements for the East Street. There were also all those great songs for the Asbury Jukes. In the 1970s, my brother used to sneak backstage, and Steve was very cool about it. Steve hates cold weather. Hence, his original nickname, "Miami Steve."
