Pink Floyd is not music. It’s an experience
jasoninseattlewa79 exactly.
And a beautiful one!!
A Golden Expirience
It's my religion! If only the U.S. government would recognize a U.K. band as being equivalent to a god. If any band were so worthy, this is them.
I've said that many times. Best method is a dark room, headphones or a stereo pushing about 1000 watts, cold Pepsi and if yer so inclined a couple fine joints or maybe some acid. Those last 2 are optional and a personal preference.
When you listen to these songs for the first time, us that have loved them for years get a chance to vicariously experience them for the first time all over again. It's a weird spiritual gift. We've been given a second chance to fall in love.
ItsMe Buster
I agree fully.
And that comment actually made my eyes water a little. It is 100% a spiritual gift watching people experience some of my favorites for the first time.
😀😀👏👏
It's an experience by the master's of music that takes your mind on the journey they elegantly crafted.
ItsMe Buster so well put 💙♥️ I was feeling that way but couldn’t put it into words 🎸💜
That was my exact feeling/experience of this as well.
My favorite Pink Floyd story is: A record company told them they would never be anything until pig could fly. When they got their first gold album, they had giant balloons in the shape of pigs and flew them over London.
That was my first experience with Pink Floyd in Cincinnati!
Big man, pig man; ha ha - charade you are!
And one of them got loose and was flying all over the UK...I think the military finally shot it down or something :)
My bother went to this concert in Tampa, I have the ticket stubs. Treasure!
their first gold album was way before animals and animals was their first flying pigs or any animal shaped balloons.
The most expressive guitar solo of all time... the sadness and nostalgia are palpable... this is how the group expressed the loss of their friend to mental illness.
The greatest tribute I have ever experienced
Drug use and unnatural noise (music) contribute to mental illness.
Syd barret is genius
When BB King heard David Gilmour's guitar on this song, he asked him after the concert: "You sure you wasn't born in Alabama????"
When B.B King asks you this, you know you're good
Gilmour's style, as well as many other guitarists from that era were influenced by the old 1920-30's Bluesmen of the South. In fact their named after two early Bluesmen, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Otherwise you would know them as the "Tea Set."
Xi Jinping says Sinis irrumabo yep that’s how they came up with the name
Watching them live was f in OUTSTANDING!!!!
Yeah, one of the things I love about Gilmour's playing is that he such a blues guy playing progressive/70s kinda music. And his tone/sound/feeling is totally out there. Gilmour's slow tasteful vibratos should be taught at any guitar lessons.
any other band: 'we have long intros"
Pink Floyd: 'hold my beer"
LMAOOOO
1983 comes around.
Beer holder: Hey, here's your beer
Pink: Yeah, no.. not yet
@@andreasstam7411 Excellent!
Sax solo....nope. We see no reason to stop.
ROTFLMAO
The 85 people who dislike this song have short attention spans and do not appreciate actual music
The only possible way you could dislike this is if you are completely tone-deaf.
👍💕
I just wonder why someone would watch and listen to a music video of a song they know they dislike.
@@IMTM1 I know it's incomprehensible
So true. I remember doing that same damn thing. Now I'm listening, now I hear, now I appreciate every instrument&each very talented artist's gift they give to us all! 2020 has shown me a ton...some of which was better than awesome!
This song was dedicated and about original founding member Syd Barrett who sadly lost a battle to mental illness. He was incredibly creative
100% true. So was “Wish you were here”. The immortalized their fallen compatriot with these tracks.
But was founding member, but still kicked him out????
@@julielevinge266 yes, unfortunately he had entirely lost his mind. They said he came back one weekend and was a completely different person, so much that he had even began to lose his ability to play his guitar
They all equally found it except for David Gilmore own equal parts why all can use em
I don’t think he lost a battle to a mental illness. He just had to live with it. It’s not like that is what he passed away from.
Much love from Canada 🇨🇦
I am crying watching this man enjoy the music I grew up with and him getting so much joy out of it. So happy I found Jamel today, he has made my day....
Ditto
Exactly the same for me.
Me too
Right? I enjoy all kinds of music and love to hear new things and give them a chance and seeing Jamel ride that same journey in front of us is really cool.
The members of Pink Floyd went trough some stuff and they captured those times through their music. As much as I feel Rogers Waters might have been a pain to work with, he had a vision of what the entire story an album should tell and that's what's sets Pink Floyd apart from many other bands.
I've watched a few videos of Roger Waters on UA-cam and he seems to show some animosity over things that were done or said and who knows what happened to alienate him from the group. As technology advanced I think Pink Floyd could have done even more incredible things had they been able to stay together. Gilmour has smooth style of guitar and singing and Waters countered that with an edginess using his voice and song tempo.
Jamel can come over to my house anytime and listen to this music (I don't think we live that far apart actually). I think he would love to watch "The Wall" movie by Pink Floyd since he seemed to enjoy the artwork done in this video.
I know right😂
David Gilmour can put you under a spell with one note! My personal favorite guitarist of all time.
He bends those strings like no other.
I finally had the pleasure of seeing him live, in 2016 at The Hollywood Bowl. What a special night. When he tours again, I will be there, come hell or high water.
I'd rather listen to him bend one note all day long over any shredder.
True - he just squeezes every little bit of emotion possible out of a note!
He plays with ❤
Someday, when earth’s population is as gone as the ancient Egyptians, a future race will discover this album and a turntable. Minds will be blown.
In the vein of Rush’s 2112, the way things are going.
An Austrian songwriter once wrote another version of your vision.
Someday, a long time after the last ultimate big bang, an alien species will come to Earth carrying pills against sadness as a gift to mankind. And they will find a movie projector showing a Mickey Mouse movie. And after the aliens watched the movie, they said to each other: 'They were funny those humans. They looked funny and they talked funny. If mankind would still exist, we would have bring them our pills against sadness for absolutely nothing.'
But I like your vision much better.
I think in the future it will be part of a curriculum in the music class LOL
Hi Jamall, my name is Dave, 58 year old white boy, southern democrat, and I’ve been watching your platform for the last few years. I really appreciate your message, especially in these troubled times, and “I see you” 😊 nothing but love brother✌️
I showed this reaction to the drummer, Nick Mason on a flight. He just said "Thanks for the love" Thought you'd want to know.
This is wholesome ❤️
That's fantastic, that he saw the reaction his and their music can do it. Wow.

Woah!!!! EPIC!
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat
Ive said it before. To me, Pink Floyd is not a “rock and roll” band. They are a genre all to themselves. As a lifelong Floyd fan, it does my heart good to see you get this music. Such an amazing musical entity...
@Randy Sporing Agree, both these bands were the best at painting pictures in the mind with their incredible music.
Sorry about chiming in here but you could say that about many bands from the 60s and 70s. But I agree, Pink Floyd led that movement. The whole genre could be broken up into hundreds of "sub genres". Bands like Blue Oyster Cult were several genres, depending on where they were in their progression.
Absolutely. Another genre unto themselves is Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson and company defy logical comparison.
Intelligence and deep meaning, behind every song.
we called it psychedelic rock.
The most beautiful of all is that the song is dedicated to Syd Barrett who was the first guitarist, composer and singer of Pink Floyd, We love you, Syd

it's tough. they're all so good. Animals, Ummagumma (because SoS is so amazing), Wall, DSOTM, even Piper at the gates is awesome.
This is the best Pink Floyd song ever. That intro is like heading to another planet.

I actually use this song as my waking up alarm, so for me it's a gentle return to reality. Hearing this first thing in the morning makes getting up at 6am surprisingly bearable

Great lead vocals by Roger [Waters] too.
The song is about Syd Barrett's descent to madness after to many acid trips. Peace Love the channel
And after being missing in action for years, he appeared in the studio just as they were laying down the track about him.
@@uketuber . U are 100% right, and after about 45 minutes, they realized it was him.. This Song is completely about and dedicated to Syd🙏
A classic case of a pre existing mental condition with LSD layered on top. Always ends tragically.
People were constantly spiking his food and drinks with acid and then locking him in closets when he freaked out. He was living one constant bad trip for years. That's enough to drive most people over the edge.
Long live syd 🤘🏻. We wouldn’t even have Pink Floyd if it wasn’t for him
I was probably 15 years old and I loved Pink Floyd for a while already but then when I heard this song it changed the way I listened to music for the rest of my life. I was almost scared like I was hearing something no one else was. I felt like I was floating and my skin tingled like my whole body was a funny bone. I still feel that way everytime I listen to it. I can't even drive and listen to this. It's a musical masterpiece like no other.
Never told this to anyone but the last time I did acid was the Halloween blizzard in 91. That was In Minnesota, I'm 66 now. I was standing on my front steps in north mpls with Pink Floyd on my stereo blasting while totally isolated and the snow untouched several feet deep. I'll never forget the feeling!❤
Now you know why people in their 50's and 60's think today's popular music is as boring as watching paint dry at a bus stop.

Sometimes it was flat painful to the point I thought Surely somebody was filing my teeth down with a fingernail file😖Knowing my parents'(my mom preferred mine!)Grands',& My music-just didn't make Any sense in how they even Called it Music😱Then there was all the "artist" who were so talentless, they remade older music,& Didn't tell the kids it Wasn't their work😡Same crap happening in the movie industry😖😢
I'm 55 and I couldn't agree more
Most people that are musically literate believe that. The thing that sucks is there are entire genres of rock now that are Floyd influenced that don't get commercial airplay. Floyd was a chart band. Musicans have to take the charts back to get people playing again. Tool did it when they released their album and beat Taylor Swift. More need to follow.
They say you don't need drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd, but you do need Pink Floyd to enjoy drugs.
Yes for sure but this takes you to a different dimension I smoke my bud, turn the lights down low, close my eyes and see what happens next
Fckn aye!
Loved to smoke bud with this. The best.
I remember that time in the van... Pink Floyd saved us...
david gilmour said they played music so people didn't have to take drugs !
The last time I heard this, I was playing it for my dying father in hospice. He didn't know who I was. Can't say I knew him much, either.
The guitar is pure emotion in Gilmore s hands. It speaks to you.....inside.
There's no one better at conveying emotion on the guitar than David Gilmour in my opinion.
No other guitarist conveys such deep emotion. He is the GOAT in my view. No one else has ever managed to make me cry like that, or feel such deep joy, just from playing a guitar.
Pink Floyd is one of the few artists that STILL raises the hairs on my neck. Been listening to them for over 30 years!! FLOYD 4 EVER!!!!

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is one of the alltime great psychedelic songs. Pink Floyd are masters of effects & atmospheric sounds. David Gilmour's guitar playing is so refined & delicate to start & just builds & builds. This masterpiece is so beautiful to hear.
This band is unbelievably talented. Now that you have experienced the magnitude of this talent you need to experience yet another side to this band. Honky Tonk Women matey. The greatest
If you know the backstory of that song, it's even more powerful. Their former lead singer had to quit cos of mental problems and drugs. And this is the tribute to him. And when they recorded that song, he visited them in the studio but no one could recognize him cos he had no hair and was overweight. And some members cried. This song is about how someone can change slowly but surely and is like a different person. The old self vanished. The identity is destroyed
Well stated, but what made it even more traumatic is they actually had to kick him out.

Always be prepared when listening to Floyd they will take you on a journey beyond your imagination !!
All my kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids have heard this piece of music. They also agree that this will play on an endless loop in the background at my funeral...!!!
Hey, this is only half of the song! The song is split into multiple parts, half of which are played at the beginning of the album, the second half played at the end. I highly HIGHLY recommend listening to the second half of the song (Parts VI - IX). In fact, I would actually recommend listening to the entire album of "Wish You Were Here" from start to finish. You will not be disappointed. It is UNBELIEVABLY GOOD.
Pink Floyd is an "album band," in that their music is best enjoyed by listening to the album as a whole, cohesive unit. For example, Dark Side of the Moon really needs to be heard from start to finish. Some excellent tracks on it, but you really don't "experience" it until you listen to it from front to back. It can actually make you feel like you're high, this band was incredible.
Meddle. A definite requirement.
Wish you were here IMHO is the perfect album. I want this song played at my funeral. Nick Mason the drummer for Pink Floyd says this is his favorite album and the only one he still listens to.
My dream is to time the entire album of 'Dark side of the moon' to a solar eclipse, so that it reaches totality just as the ending lyrics of eclipse crescendo.
I'm 60. A big Floyd fan, and I agree. "Wish You Were Here" is their masterpiece. I can just listen to it on repeat. Over and over. You really cant tell where is begins and ends after a while. And....I'm sober.

Pink Floyd is my favorite band of all time. This music brought me so much peace when life was so chaotic. I could often relax listening to it and go from listening to it into feeling it surround me like a blanket being wrapped around me.
My uncle turned me on to this song in my formative years but my fondest memory is listening to it with my father. We were driving in the early morning from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in the desert watching the sunrise while the music was playing. We both acknowledged how powerful the music was at that moment. I miss my father so much and wish we could have one more road trip together.
♥️

Keep in mind, all of these songs come from concept albums that are all basically one long song broken into pieces. In other words the “songs” all bleed into each other.
Not all song, they fade out to switch record side. The wall have 3 silence between songs. (two records with two sides)
Michael Eric Menk just wanted the dude to know why the songs ended rather abruptly. He commented that he may have picked a bad video or something.

Agreed
I saw this and several other concerts by Pink Floyd. They had the best laser light shows, props and visuals incorporated in their shows. This song started with the arena completely dark with the visual on a big drum screen on the stage. Suddenly the lights went on and there was the band. No evidence of the band was present on the stage prior to the lights going back up. This and many of their concerts had physical impact on the audience, spell bound with heart racing. It was the highest high but, in my case. without drugs. You need to get your hands on a copy of "The Wall" if you like the artsy stuff.

Nicely done!
A tribute to Syd Barrett, their original lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He only performed on one full album with the band, their debut album, Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Only one song of his appears on their second album. Beyond that, he became the inspiration for much of the band's later material.
You owe it to yourself to look up some of the band's early stuff, as well as some of Syd's solo material, in order to get a better idea of what they're all about and how the whole Pink Floyd experience came to be.
Ronald Elkins exactly what I was going to say 👍🏼❤️
Yeah, but take your time with Syd's solo stuff, it's a bit of an acquired taste!
Here we go: Syd was Pink Floyd’s creative force, writing their songs, charismatic lead singer/frontman, guitar player etc.
His intellect, creative inspiration & musical vision were key to Floyd early recognition and flowering success story.
When he turned up after being unreachable by the band, something had happened to Syd.
His personality, his spark and presence was no more. Likely a dormant schizo-affective blown wide open by the use of too much LSD or other drugs he was ingesting-in copious amounts created by chemist friends he was living amongst.
Just at the point of recognition and chart success, he became a frustrating liability and faded into the shadows...
Syd’s creative influence with the unexpected loss of such an integral member, drove Pink Floyd into developing their own sound. It served to expand psychological depths of emotional communication in their songwriting and musical content.
‘Shine on You Crazy Diamond” held the greatest meaning for them -to acknowledge and pay tribute to Syd Barrett.

Welcome to the WORLD of Pink Floyd . Possibly the all-time longest Intro , you start to wonder IF there is a Song , or simply an Instrumental piece . Rick and David work together so seamlessly it just Amazes .
Then comes the ENIGMATIC Chord . Four single Notes , kinda . But not . Hangs around a while in the background .
Possibly the Best song they did . But debate is OPEN here .
And of course , The Gilmour Effect out front on that Guitar . A sound no-one else can replicate .
Sax on the Outro , which I though even back when I first heard this , was pretty cool . Brought it BACK from the STRATosphere .
Less than a minute into Shine on you Crazy Diamond:
"I never thought I would really appreciate long intros but the anticipation is so good..."
Made me smile.
Yeah, and little did he realize there are a bit over 8 minutes of intro on this one.
I have to say this. Jamal, there are a lot of people doing these reaction videos. I come to you because of YOU. I can hear this music anytime I want. I was born in 1963 so most of it I heard fresh on the radio. (Yes, we had actual radio stations that played music once...for free). I could write a novel but I'll end with saying I wish you were part of my family. I'd be so proud. You're an amazing man.
Thank you for sharing yourself with us. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
This is exactly how you'd hope everyone would react hearing this song for the first time. ❤️
Seeing you react to music that I sort of took for granted as a young adult (we were used to nothing but the best!), gives me a whole renewed appreciation of what we knew all along!
David Gilmour's playing is genius. I use the word because what he does seems simple & completely natural but he produces a perfection of feeling, tone & precision that very few could ever match let alone surpass !
The greatest part about this musical journey, is that it will never end. Peace.
I have been in love with this album for 43 years.
Now I feel old. I bought it on vinyl when it was originally released.
@@Kellymale Almost the same - my best friend bought it and I taped it from him. I bought my own copy a couple of years later when I could afford it, and have re-bought it in several formats.
Yikes has it been that long....
Favorite Floyd album (and song, including part 2). That slow-building intro is insanely good!
My man Jamel so lucky to hear this for the first time ...
Hey! them British boys can play some meeean ass Blues, Man!
p.s. . . legend has it ,that Sax solo is still going on to this day ....
Those long introductions are preparing your soul for what's to come so that you can appreciate the gift you are about to receive. Welcome to a new world..
I love pink floyd thei simplicity and how Gilmore puts out a note and let's it breath? Truly amazing.
I’m glad you appreciate the music that got me through “HIGH” school lol
Floyd is the quintessential mood music
It just takes you places
God bless you brotha
Oh bro I see what you did there
The most chilling 4 notes ever played.
Hell yeah, those 4 are some monster notes.
RIGHT?
Gives me chills no matter how many times I listen.
J. Hindle makes you feel like time has stopped doesn’t it?
ThatGuy hah, you could say that. My dad knew a guy who was a bit like that once.
Pink Floyd should be listened to with headphones, eyes closed in a darkened room. You can thank me later.
You are wrong know they need to be listened to on the biggest speakers in the world so the whole planet can hear it
Damon Miller OK, what about clamping the biggest speakers in the world to your ears, with eyes closed in a darkened room?
Barbara Witchey ☺️
...whilst on 5g of mushrooms
@Barbara Witchey either one would do the trick
Bought the album in 1976 and still playing it for almost 50 years in 2 years. Its breathtaking
I love many groups, and some of them are very good, but Pink Floyd are a step above everything I ever heard in my life. This song especially it's something out of this planet.
Wow 3 Pink Floyd songs in a row. Must be building his way up to my personal favorite. Hey You
Hey you is my favourite too amazing song
Mine is Keep Talking
True story.
My friend in college was a Tank Commander in West Germany in the late 80s. He got someone to rig his tank up with a bunch of speakers and while they were out on maneuvers, he used to blast this shit.
And I asked him, "Did the other tankers like it?"
And he was like, "NO. But it was my tank. My rules."
So they just blasted around IDK, Bavaria forests with Pink Floyd blaring like mad.,
Shades of Apocalypse Now, and “I love napalm in the morning”
What? No "Fortunate Son" by CCR? 😂
One of my favorite Floyd songs nothing like this blasting with the windows on a hot summer night while driving on a dark empty interstate with lightening flashing in the distance.
With their music they not only paid tribute to a friend, but made him immortal in order to travel to infinity.
