Chris Buck is an ANIMAL on the guitar. He's rapidly becoming one of my favorite living guitar players. Just a fantastically gifted dude, and I love that, like Michael, he shares his knowledge. Hugely inspirational, and I loved seeing Michael enjoy it so much when that solo comes.
I think this is the best band going right now. We all know Chris Buck is awesome, but this whole band is great, I find no weak points! The singer has got soul for days!!
Personally, I find that drummer a little stiff for this kind of music. If someone asks me what's the weak point of this band, it's definitely him. But I'm sure he can develop his chops and quickly level it up with the rest of the band.
Damn it man !!! If that wah doesn’t give you goosebumps you have no pulse !! Great tune. Great solo. Great vocals. Great bass. Great drums great everything!!!!!
Our new guitar heros are a real Hope for guitar future. Chris Buck, Ariel Posen, John Mayer, Mateus Asato, Joey Landreth, Marcus King, Julian Lage...oh my!
Chris is not only a phenomenal player..but he really puts out very interesting and intelligent conversation on his you tube channel..and his intro playing makes one want to hit..repeat..over and over 👍😎🎸
I know English too little and I don't understand everything, but the music speaks. Brilliant workmanship and a great review. I feel emotions, passion and this does not need to be explained 😉 Greetings from Poland.
Chris Buck manages to stay more musical and melodic in the upper register of his fretboard almost more than anybody. Most of the time it seems like when we get in the upper register we're just worried about all the fireworks but Chris still keeps it totally musical and I love that about his playing. That's definitely a characteristic of his playing.
"Yup, aww, it's just, you know…he's just my kind a' guitar player man". MP, truer words have never been spoken. Liked and subscribed (for a while now). And the call to arms Michael? "Grab your guitars"! Thanks man. Giddy Up. IMHO Chris' playing is mega becuase his playing makes you feel stuff. All those technical skills, the groovy glissandos and stuff, they all submilmate into the mission, the feel, the melody and those lovely bends!
I once heard someone say “Chris buck must be the best singer in the world, and he’s just so self conscious of his voice that he has to play guitar.... there’s no way his guitar licks can be so vocal else wise”😂 and I think thats very much accurate. He’s by far my favorite modern guitarist. Dude is amazing
So glad you reacted to these guys, I'm a huge fan!! I live around 10 miles from where Chris Buck and the rest of the band are from, and going to see them in a couple of weeks at Cardiff Castle, CANNOT WAIT. Loving the channel, keep it coming! 🤘
Chris Buck is a BEAST of a player. Just wanted to say thanks for introducing me to Travis Meadows's song "Sideways"...watched your video this morning and that song brought tears to my eyes. I subscribed to your channel this morning!
Paused after the first 39 seconds. Yeah… you know we IS listening to your groooove, Sir! Thanks again, and now it’s time to take in the rest of your video!
Chris is a joy to listen to..... I would definitely spend hours listening to his tone and his soloing non stop !!! you just don't get tired of that sound !!
First of all, great song, overall. The structure of the instrumentation with melodic intervals from the voices, bass and keys in turn and the deliberate dynamics of this song sets up Chris Buck's solo to perfection. Anticipation. For a guitar lover, and a guitar solo lover in particular, the building up of the anticipation of the guitar taking centre stage is, for me, a very special thing. I was 13 when I bought Machine Head in early '72 and the way Purple structured songs developed one's anticipation of Blackmore's solos. But I realised a little later what perfection in that regard was when the live versions came out on Made In Japan later in '72. With the Marshall stacks turned up to 11, still the builds and the dynamics were exquisite. And then there was significant improvisation in the solos that I already thought were perfect on record, incredibly, becoming more perfect played live. So, the point of this rambling, Mr Pal-misano, is that I was feeling the anticipation building to Chris's solo just like you obviously were - notwithstanding enjoying all of the contributions of the band up to the solo, still the solo is our 'money shot' and Chris Buck never disappoints. I have played guitar since '72 and my life would have been much less without guitars and the guitar's contribution to music, stylistically, from Segovia to Hendrix. Your knowledge is vital and enthusiasm infectious, and along with that other I-talian-American, Rick Beato, you both give me great pleasure as I approach my dotage. If only you had been around when I was learning to play coming from trumpet and cornet where there is only way way to play each note and finding all the (piano) sheet music provided were the chords (not always accurate) and the melody line. Sincerely, thank you. And Merry Christmas.
Heard Chris and The Cardinal playing this summer on KTBA cruise. Great playing and songs and Chris nice person. Thanks Michael from a Chris fan and yours, from Italy.
Chris sounds like Derek Trucks without a slide. Their right hand technique is pretty similar too, at least by my eyes. Completely different styles but his melodic sense is right up there with Dickey Betts IMHO
Cardinal Black playing 3 USA gigs in July - Nashville, LA and Omaha - Get out and see/support these guys - New podcast on Rhett Shull's channel with Chris Buck
Chris has been around for many years .. he was part of TH3 with Tom the singer here and Adam the drummer back in 2010 . They were about to break big but split up but stayed friends and made Cardinal Black in 2021 ... Also for several years Chris has his other band, Buck and Evans with great critical acclaim and an album .. UA-cam came along for him only a couple years ago. Now he's a signature player for Yamaha and Fender and is considered one of the very best in the world
Cardinal black is my number 1 favorite band right now. Chris and them have been playing for 10+ years, but they only recently started taking it seriously
Love these guys ,they are so tight with their playing and craft of song writing .Met Chris at a Fender Tonemaster launch day ,really nice guy took time to chat to every one . After watching your breakdown of this song gives more respect for them.Never going to get to play as well but great to play along and enjoy the groove .
Hey man, love your channel. I’m an encourager and just wanting to encourage you to keep it going. And your piece on theory and natural pitch ability vs just working to compensate was really honest and transparent. Thank you for being real brother. Love what you do. I watch all the time. I suck at the art btw.. and have been playing by ear since I was 12. I’m jealous of your knowledge of theory. I have always have hung for where I should be on the neck. Anyway, love your channel.
Amazing as always Michael - I learn so much from these videos. I have been learning myself for about 2 yrs now (late 40s) and so appreciate the way you bring so many things together. And the way you start improvising right along with the band at 11:20 is pure magic!
@@adammartinguitar5436 yes they are and he most definitely does, it's nice that that he's given the opportunity to shine without it dominating the song. Lots of subtle interplay between the band members throughout. 🏴👍
Yeah! This band has it all - serious sole, great musicianship and raw talent. So glad Mike put this up here so we could discover this band. Chris has a great technique and feel that really takes you away
Dude, where do you pull these quotes out of? "...feel it in the silence, that's where all the funk is!" Killer, man! ... btw, everybody is talking about Chris, but did you listen to the singer? Great voice there!
Chris Buck is for sure one of my top favorite guitarists right now. I actually bought a set of his custom pickups recently which sound fantastic by the way. I've incorporated his half step slides and more microtonal bends (a lot harder than he makes it looks haha you have to get the intonation perfect) and just trying to come up with more creative lines as a whole. I'll take a traditional line and simply go WWCBD? What would Chris Buck do? And try and add some flavor to it. Has really improved my playing studying him and I play with my fingers a lot more because you get such a great tone.
Mike man, hands down the best channel on UA-cam. Your passion for what you love is astounding. Would love a lesson on Ben Poole (I Know) I’m Losing You live at Royal Albert Hall. Keep doing what you do man, love it.
If you played with Chris 2 years ago, what took you so long (sarcasm not complaint). I suggested some Buck and Evans for you to review but added Cardinal Black to the Barn Burners playlist. Thanks for giving Chris a bigger audience. Great stuff from you as usual.
Thanks a ton man. I'm a new subscriber but I've watched a ton of your videos. This is awesome. It makes me think of something I watched a while back. It's different i know but i think you would really enjoy it. It's a CMT crossroads episode John Mayer and Keith Urban. There's actually one of John Mayer and Brad Paisley also. Not sure that it should be a reaction but if you like to here some really good guitarist just go back and forth on each others songs, its definitely worth checking out.
excellent video :) Cardinal Black and Chris Buck will make better songs, i can feel it. I am a bit surprised no one is saying Chris Buck is having some similar guitar melodies and skills like Slash. There is hundred shredders faster than him, but if you think about feeling, Slash, Clapton and Bucket Head are the only guys able to bring us emotions with those old style pantatonic paterns
Chris Buck is what i consider "Scary good" at guitar. He does not sound like anyone else and that is a big plus to me. Has his own tone and feel. His playing has to be the most tasteful i have heard. His solo's are very vocal like and they are like little compositions in of themselves. He reminds me of Alan Holdsworth in that when i hear him play a solo my jaw drops!😱😁🤘
Chris Buck has already joined the ranks of Legend status in my mind. Stay out of the "27 Club" we need you to stick around brother! Haha. Palmisano, Just when I think you can't possibly impress me anymore, you keep talking. haha For real, I've said this before about how much I love the directions you have been taking your channel and the new depths of knowledge you continue to share with us is literally priceless as far as I'm concerned and appreciated more than you'll probably ever know. You have certainly held up your end of the bargain by delivering the golden insights brother.

Oh, dude! Wow. Thank you so much 🖤
You deserve it man, one of the most tasteful players out there today!
Change of subject Chris.. but thanks for Joe Willock :)
Absolutely love your playing, Chris. Full of emotion and feeling. Really impressive!
Nooo !! Thank you !! This is fantastic !!! You just gained a new fan !! 👊🏻
Chris your inspiring so many people. Thanks for your playing and Friday fretwork.
My dad once commented a few of my licks sounded like Chris’ and it’s the best compliment I’ve received since I started
That guy has a killer voice

Local band to me. Seen them 3 times and another two to come in December. Best band I've come across since Royal Blood in 2014!
Damn it man !!! If that wah doesn’t give you goosebumps you have no pulse !! Great tune. Great solo. Great vocals. Great bass. Great drums great everything!!!!!

What no love for Matteo Mancusco?
Great appreciation of a mega-player and a fantastic band. Chris Buck is up there with the very best. There's poetry in his Welsh soul.
Also.... that bass player is freakin locked smooth in.
Chris is not only a phenomenal player..but he really puts out very interesting and intelligent conversation on his you tube channel..and his intro playing makes one want to hit..repeat..over and over 👍😎🎸

Cardinal black is epic man. Dude i need that guitar! My absolute favorite color and everything!
Watched Chris for a while. His, touch feel and melody is so good. Not just over playing for the sake of it. Great tune too.
great review sir. i think repeated bass melody at 10:12 is a ref to Pearl Jam's - Black.
this is a solo worth learning note for note, even if its not your bag. its KILLER, so many tasteful ideas you can use
Hard to believe this was three years ago & I´ve only just turned on to Chris Buck and this great band. Thanks Michael.

And don't forget the singers .. They were brilliant !!
what a great song!
The song was amazing but your analysis was extremely informative and engaging too. Really great video all around, love ya

Chris has certainly created an unmistakable style unique to him. What an incredible achievement! Hope to keep hearing new things from him.
What a happening tune that is 🎸🎸. Rock on Chris Buck!!

What I was going to say before I saw this comment. Derek has elements of sitar sounds, maybe...great solo right here!
So true I’ve been thinking that
With some Jeff Beck allusions too. I’m solidly team Buck/Beck/Trucks.
Again ... Introducing me to more great music. Thanks Michael.
That song is really a great song.
Masterpiece
Cardinal Black playing 3 USA gigs in July - Nashville, LA and Omaha - Get out and see/support these guys - New podcast on Rhett Shull's channel with Chris Buck
Great breakdown of a great song and performance! Thank you Michael!
I saw this band a week ago. So good, the guitarist was so measured, subtle and down right fantastic Best band I’ve seen for years
Wow! I've just learned about Chris Buck last week. When did he first come on the scene? This is excellence!
Chris has been around for many years .. he was part of TH3 with Tom the singer here and Adam the drummer back in 2010 . One of the best songs released in the last five years. I've been digging this one from the jump.
Believe I may be the first here! Chris Buck awesome guitarist🤘🏻
I gotta acknowledge my mans killer lead voice too! Great work all around. This hits you deep in the back of the feels. Bravo!
wow - back to back killers - Travis Meadows and this! Thank you Michael!
Cardinal black is my number 1 favorite band right now. Chris and them have been playing for 10+ years, but they only recently started taking it seriously
I love this video so much.
It was very cool to hear you talk about how Chris rides one string after listening to him talk about how he does just that.
Chris Buck is such a unique guitarist. He's my new modern guitar hero.
I agree he is very Unique. he does not just sound like everyone else. Has his own style 100%!🤘He is easily my new favorite player.
Noticed he hardly uses his pinkie, amazing tho even without it!! Fantastic

Fantastic band.
Such an incredible lesson thank you once again 🙏🏼
Wow man thank you, this is really inspiring. Thanks for explaining the Buck Magic. Now I can have those vibes too!

Chris Buck is such a great guitarist!! That solo reminds me a lot of Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Chris is light years ahead of Kenny with solo's
Loved this 🤪
Holy bass

can you react to Black Midi (live or Albums versions) of their last LP for instance) ?
tx for your vids!
I didn't know Keanu Reeves played drums 🤣🤣🤣 Awesome sounding band!!! Nice job breaking it down! Love it!
Great video! Liked and subbed. Thanks man

How long did it take you to be able to be able to do this so quickly and accurately by sight and ear?
Wow!
