Pete Thorn was the best for me, it really highlight the theme of the track for me personally and he made it quite exotic with the notes he choose to represent, the ending part was most spectacular and brings about the song completely.
When you see 'one track, ten solos' from such talent you automatically start thinking 'whose will be best?' but what you discover is that you end up experiencing the genius of expression from adept artists of the guitar. Each artist had a unique and beautiful interpretation. I feel fortunate enough to be able to appreciate each one's voice and not feel any need to pick a winner. Just beautiful! Great concept, Paul.
Exactly. Picking a "best" is pointless, and I wouldn't even bother trying to determine a personal favorite. They were all very different in style, and I think that's why they were all really good-- each one had their own distinct musical personality.
What an awesome project. Thanks Paul. Every one of these guys did an absolutely amazing job. But I can't help picking my favorites, so for me it was: #3 - Danish Pete, #2 - Pete Thorn, #1 - Chris Buck. These guys all touched my soul.
Totally with you... they were all superb, and Dan is one of my favourite guitar people ever, but Pete Thorn and Chris Buck were the ones who forced me to rewind the video to listen to their solos again! 😍😍
I rewatched now like 100 times Chris Buck's rendition! It makes me want to learn to play the guitar like him, and to be able to have that Yamaha guitar also, it`s amazing! And the others, whom I also watch and follow, they are beatiful in their own way, but this solo, man,... that SOLO it is the natural theme or colors or dynamics to be played if it was released as a song to the masses!
I've watched this a few times now, and still find Buck's playing amazing. The rest are phenomenal talents as well, including PAUL. It's odd that no one seemed to give him the praise he is due for his amazing playing, in addition to making this collab happen, and sharing it with the world. I tip my hat to you, Paul. Thank you.
The old saying is that people like Steve Vai, EVH, David Gilmour can come and play your SHITTIEST gear, and STILL sound like themselves! The fingertips and heart are amazing things!❤️

Chris Buck always kills it. He knows how to make his solo sing in an emotional, dynamic way like no other! All the solos were great! Well done!!
Paul made us all winners !
Exactly. Picking a "best" is pointless, and I wouldn't even bother trying to determine a personal favorite. They were all very different in style, and I think that's why they were all really good-- each one had their own distinct musical personality.
I cant stop listening to Chris Bucks solo, its absolutely captivating
Same
He always sounds like Chris Buck,
Im one of the victims
Chris Buck is an absolute master of feel. Never heard anything of his that didn’t make my hairs stand up. My goodness 🤤
What an awesome project. Thanks Paul. Every one of these guys did an absolutely amazing job. But I can't help picking my favorites, so for me it was: #3 - Danish Pete, #2 - Pete Thorn, #1 - Chris Buck. These guys all touched my soul.
Fantastic playing all 'round but Chris Buck and Pete Thorn on another level. What a great video.
Totally with you... they were all superb, and Dan is one of my favourite guitar people ever, but Pete Thorn and Chris Buck were the ones who forced me to rewind the video to listen to their solos again! 😍😍
My favourites: Pete Thorn, Chris Buck and Paul himself! Great challenge, great playing!
Pete Thorn and Chris Buck had the tastiest licks throughout, but twas all good (-:
I agree
chris buck has to be one of my favorite "youtube guitarists" at the moment. great tone and always makes me feel something whenever he plays
Pete won it for me, although all very good.
They made my spine shiver lol Just g o r g e o u s
I absolutely agree!
Pete Thornes solo was beautiful! That chordal phrase was divine.
Love how Rick Beato is always in teaching mode. What an amazing resource he’s been.
100% agree with you. He’s a living encyclopaedia. All that thanks to youtube.
excuse me, it's pronounced BeAAATo
Chris Buck, never heard of him but he was soo good
Do yourself a favour and check Chris channel
I've watched this a few times now, and still find Buck's playing amazing. The rest are phenomenal talents as well, including PAUL. It's odd that no one seemed to give him the praise he is due for his amazing playing, in addition to making this collab happen, and sharing it with the world. I tip my hat to you, Paul. Thank you.
My favourites, in the following order:
1. All of them
So many different flavours brought to the table, incredible players all of them.
Paul is all of us when he plays Chris Buck's lick note-for-note and says "I dunno. It doesn't sound the same..." Great video.
The old saying is that people like Steve Vai, EVH, David Gilmour can come and play your SHITTIEST gear, and STILL sound like themselves! The fingertips and heart are amazing things!❤️
Yep
@@hbpdi001 agreed. There's a video around of SRV playing a Telecaster, and from the first note, it still sounds like Stevie!
I'm here unplugged trying to get the exact same feeling on the first 4 bars.. what a monster!
I spend a lot of time on UA-cam, and this video is like Christmas morning when we were 9 years old: magic. Thank you so much, and please consider doing more like this.
I couldn't agree more!
Pete thorn's solo was on fire🔥
1. Chris Buck is from other planet
2. Pete Thorn sounds like magic
3. Rhett shull sounds great with a few things
All are great anyway
Totally agree! Chris & Pete's were my 2 favorites!
Danish Pete and Chris Buck’s solo was my fave. Rhett Shull, and Pete thorn are awesome too.
This is a Masterclass in 'How to Professionally Approach Guitar Soloing' the information that everyone is giving up is worth its weight in gold 😄👍🏼 great great video.
I saved it in a playlist I have named 'Music theory'
exactly!
Chris Buck’s was just….chefs kiss! All the takes were great, but Chris’ was exactly perfect. Nothing missing, nothing overplayed.
Chris' solo literally brought a tear to my eye.....
True story 😢
same here..
Chris Buck's is just incredible...I must have watched it a dozen times with no lessening of emotional impact...oh my!! Second up for me was Pete Thorn, really thoughtful playing, great tones, just superb.
Yes exactly, I published my own cover with tabs in my humble channel few days ago, but when else better than the man himself could explain it?!?! Chris just released a video with in depth explanation of his solo!
Chris Buck made me fuckin' cry.
It's ok to cry.

@@carlmarks8170 What does me calling out your toxic remarks in a sarcastic fashion have to do with my ability as a guitar player. You know nothing about me, for all you know I dont even play guitar.
@@carlmarks8170 Who hurt you so bad in your life that you’re so sensitive to emotion that someone even mentioning it in a youtube comment has you wounded.
@@carlmarks8170 "Toughen up" the irony is huge.
Pete Thorn and Chris Buck just knocked it out of the park! Glad I came across this!
You asked for it. Backing track freely available on my Patreon page, and record your improvisation! Use the hashtags: #improvchallenge and #pauldavids and let's see what you got!
*Also: we need some women in the next one! Please leave some suggestions below!*
Rick Beato that was awesome
Pete loved the ending
very creative MIW
Peter Honoré very soulful
Chris Buck killed it prob my fav.
Holy moly CHRIS BUCK. That’s art.
I agree 1000%!
I think we’re engaged. 😍
By far the best. He was channeling John Mayer :)
Without depreciating the other artists, he is a great inspiration.
@@olafnelsonduerksen9676 calling someone the greatest does not diminish the value of others. It merely sets rank :) As a guy who might be lucky to be in the top 50% of all guitar players (but probably in the bottom 25%), it doesn't hurt my feelings to know my inferiority to other players. It doesn't change the value of my playing at all. It just means you will probably never see my name on Billboard ;)
to me Chris Buck just nailed the feel with close second Pete Thorn!
Agreed.
Yeahh
👍🏼
Exactly my feelings.
I came back several times in the past months, just to enjoy my fav improvs.
I notice just now that Pete Thorn and Chris Buck use more or less the same scale ascent on bar 6, landing on the minor third.
Great minds think alike, it seems.
I've had Chris Buck's solo stuck in my head the last 24 hours and had to come back for more.
SAAAAME MAN!!!
same bro, I've listened to it at least 40 times
I can’t stop listening to it. It’s the most tasteful thing I’ve heard in a long time.
Paul looked like he fell in love with the man during that solo.
Rick Beato: “I’m not really a guitar player!”
Me: 😳
All good players, Paul you rock as much as all the others too :) Groetjes from Australia
I'd be more than happy to be not much of a guitar player if I could get what Rick did with this.
he did play pretty average tho
@@poio_cumbiero4770 My post was more about Rick being modest about not being a guitar player when he clearly is an excellent guitar player. Whether his version was the best is irrelevant and completely subjective.
Rick is being too humble, da man has chops for days and is a great teacher, artist, and ambassador for Rock and music. Thnx Rick.
Just started watching and I already know that I want this to be a series ;).
Nice collaboration! Among all the great musicians featured in this video, I have to admit that Chris Buck impressed me. Incredible talent.
Who else came back for that Chris buck solo?
I keep coming back. I still can't believe how much can he takes you to a journey with only 8 bars.
here.
Totally
Had to do it over and over man it has that thing that has you hooked... it’s there
For a 57th time
I hope my comment gets seen by all the youtube guitar channels -- This was the single most useful video I've yet encountered! To have a collection of talented guitarists demonstrate their take on an the same 8 bar phrase and explain the how's and why's is a goldmine. We're all at such varied levels of development with individual tastes and our own unique approaches to music. A resource like this is a treasure for inspiration as well as helping us get a glimpse of the same thing through someone else's lens.
Thank you all so much!
Agreed. Listening to each of these guys explain they way they approached their solos was incredible. Thanks to all you guys for participating and Paul for putting this all together. Really cool stuff.
Here here! thanks so much for this great concept! I hope these guys can all chip in and reply with their own challenges for one another... very cool
I discovered Chris Buck's channel about two months ago. I must say, his playing in this video only scratches the surface of what he's capable of. I have never seen a player with such vocal-like phrasing.
@Thomas Grey yes, I saw him live back in 2006. I was stunned for the entire show!
That's a point. Some month's ago I was an LP-Player. Then I bought a Strat and started searching for inspiration. Found it with Chris Buck. Just amazing and Mindblowing playing.
By the way, Paul is good too.
Checkout Blake Mills
Happens to be my cousin went to see him at the memo when his band Buck and Evans reopened it a few years back and man I'm jealous of his musical ability 😂
Chris Buck.. my god. Unbelievable skill and artistry.
Buck, Thorn, then Tim Pierce. Everybody did great, but those 3 were a cut above.
All were great, but the Chris Buck solo was goosebumps level of good.
Pete Thorns solo was mind blowing. Love his take.
I didn't know Chris Buck until now. He was the most original, His take was the living example for a simple solution to a complicated problem :))))
