You guys just turned Yosemite Sam from the crazy laughable loose-trigger and comedic villain into the ultimate edgy gigachad deadeye sharpshooter and feared outlaw of the Wild West. I LOVE IT!
love the last one. you made him look like a character from red dead redemption or something. ryuk was interesting too, the prompt does kind of make him sound like a weird gang member out of context
Having guessed Yosemite Sam pretty much as soon as you put the clothes on the Mr Potato Head, it was very entertaining seeing you come up with the gritty reboot version. And also now I want Hellboy and Yosemite Sam Mr Potato Heads to be a thing.
Dickens had some very interesting ways of describing characters; we had to draw one of them for our QCS practise tests back in 2006. You could possibly do a whole Dickens-themed video, especially if you throw in someone from 'A Christmas Carol' and do it in time for Christmas!
@@jgabe73 Queensland Core Skills (tests). Standardised tests we used to have in Queensland, Australia. Jazza probably did something similar in his final year of school.
I love Yosemite Sams design. It was so good. It was like the live action realistic version of Yosemite Sam and I love when people turn things realistic, so I really liked that
This was so cool! I really like using the same base model for the initial brainstorming because it really highlights the key features of each design (plus Mr. Potato Head is an iconic toy). I only managed to guess two of the four today (#1 and #4 threw me for a bit of a loop), so kudos to the team for their good character picks (plus an extra cheer for Alicia for the cool renders, and maybe an apology if I did a name misspelling).
Typically, I hardly know any of the characters and you know what? It doesn’t matter! It is so much fun to see your interpretation of the description, the end result and then the character as it is normally depicted. very cool!
Don't know how popular these will be, but I have a couple of suggestions for character descriptions that might be interesting to draw. The first is the Ghost of Christmas Christmas Past from A Christmas Carol. The passage that describes it reads as follows: "It was a strange figure-like a child: yet not so like a child as like an old man, viewed through some supernatural medium, which gave him the appearance of having receded from the view, and being diminished to a child’s proportions. Its hair, which hung about its neck and down its back, was white as if with age; and yet the face had not a wrinkle in it, and the tenderest bloom was on the skin. The arms were very long and muscular; the hands the same, as if its hold were of uncommon strength. Its legs and feet, most delicately formed, were, like those upper members, bare. It wore a tunic of the purest white; and round its waist was bound a lustrous belt, the sheen of which was beautiful. It held a branch of fresh green holly in its hand; and, in singular contradiction of that wintry emblem, had its dress trimmed with summer flowers. But the strangest thing about it was, that from the crown of its head there sprung a bright clear jet of light, by which all this was visible; and which was doubtless the occasion of its using, in its duller moments, a great extinguisher for a cap, which it now held under its arm." The second character is Mad-Eye Moody from Goblet of Fire. He is described as having "a long mane of grizzled, dark grey hair" a face that "looked as though it had been carved out of weathered wood by someone who had only the vaguest idea of what human faces were supposed to look like, and was none too skilled with a chisel. Every inch of skin seemed to be scarred. The mouth looked like a diagonal gash, and a large chunk of the nose was missing...One [eye] was small dark and beady. The other was large, round as a coin, and a vivid, electric blue." He is also described as "leaning upon a long staff, shrouded in a black travelling coat" and having a " carved wooden leg, ending in a clawed foot."
The Potato Head method is pretty funny, I enjoy it. I did guess Yosemite Sam right away which made it SO much funnier to watch the direction you took it in.
I guessed Tyrion and Hellboy. Well, I guessed some of the others too but not correctly :) Never fails to amaze me how what Jazza produces looks like a complete picture and doesn't seem like much can be added but then Alysha works her magic and WOW!
Suggestion: in Magic the gathering they came out with an expansion named Modern horizons 2 and in that expansion they had these concept art cards. They had the same art as the real card but they lacked color and looked like line art concepts of the final product. And where the flavor text at the bottom would normally go they instead put the prompt that was given to the artist to come up with the concept. They are also given details like the gameplay color of the card and the type of card like creature, artifact or spell. I think it would be cool for you to take some of those prompts and see what you make of them. Or do popular characters from magic in general. If you do end up doing popular characters from magic I really want to see you do a version of Avacyn Angel of hope.
I guessed immediately, as soon as I saw the colors described and the hair and mustache...I was cracking up the whole time you were drawing him. That's a great interpretation!
I’d love to see some characters from The Expanse and other scifi settings covered! Star Wars, trek, Babylon 5… but also modern successes like The Martian, Becky Chambers’s Wayfarer series, or Murderbot diaries!
I like the potato head approach. It sort of made it easier to give the prompts in a way that didnt ruin it . And at least for me, it stopped me from all to quickly guessing.
I love this series! Definitely prefer the more obscure ones though. I feel like when you know them your brain purposefully tries to go different, but not necessarily in a natural way. Whereas the ones you don't know, you ACTUALLY only have the words as a prompt, and no preconceived ideas. All of these are great either way though!
I got 3 out of 4. The Mr. Potato Head method works very well!. And it's cool to see Alicia step in and help with finishing off the characters. Team work!
I love this series! Of today's session Hellbox and Yosemite Sam were my favourites, love the cowboy's pose 👏 I personally preferred your separate sketches for the described features over Mr. Potatohead but I totally get why you like him 😉
Ooh I really like the presentation of this one! So crisp and clean! Passing them between you and Alysha is super cool too! The collabs are always fun! I go an IPad a bit ago in hopes of learning Procreate - and I've been holding off on getting the brushes until I had some time.. and its the perfect opportunity for an early Christmas present >:D
Managed to guess them all this time! Loved hearing the description of the last one going that's totally YS and then you decided it shouldn't be cartoony. Loved it!
I loved the Mr. PotatoHead! It's a fun way to see the prompts and something a student could use with whatever character they choose to practice different prompts
I got Yosemite Sam, but loved the version that you got out of it! I love these episodes, every time it's great to see the a famous character reinvented!
I'd love to see how you'd draw some of the monsters from Percy Jackson. There are some wild descriptions for monsters and it would be interesting to see how you break it down.
Dude i loved the Ryuk! The funny thing is is that i was thinking of asking jazza to do something with the death note series and here we are. Great job jazza! Keep up the good work!
It's be interesting to see you do more obscure characters. Based on your pre-drawing descriptions, I was able to guess all the characters, and I haven't even ever seen hell boy before or anything. I am curious how much you are subconsciously inspired by the existing character when you draw. Maybe you can have each of your workers pick the one character they feel is most obscure, and have them describe their features (unless they are from a written medium where their features are already described). I wanna see you draw someone I've never heard of.
I wanna see him draw Atreyu from Neverending Story because yeah, their attempts in the movie to make him look like the book describes failed to the point where they abandoned it entirely (hint--he does not have an earth skin tone)
The mister potato head drawings are a really clever way of showing off the character traits. I also like the ones where you draw characters from books that have been adapted to some form of visual media. it's fun to see all the different versions. I'd love to see some drawings based on Good Omens and His Dark Materiels since I know the book descriptions of characters deviate a bit from their respective shows.
Might be cool to redesign superheroes using their bare-bones basic concepts: A handsome man of wealthy stock, dressed theatrically in dark clothing, including elbow length gloves and a cloak. His face is masked showing only his mouth. His silhouette is sharp and pointed included what appear to be two horns on his head. He wears a bright yellow belt with pouches and has the symbol of a bat across his chest. A muscular but awkward farmboy in bright primary colours in a simple outfit inspired by circus strongmen. He has slicked back black hair with a few loose strands falling on his forehead, a loveable smile and a large stylised ‘S’ on his broad chest Maybe this could be a two-for-one piece showing them together. Maybe as colleagues? Friends?

Heya Jazza, I love your character design videos!! I have a character description I would love for you to draw - Rezkin from the Kings Dark Tidings series: 17 year old young man with a leather thong to tie his shoulder-length, slick, black hair into a queue at his nape. He wears: a simple but well-made green tunic of fine linen with brown wool pants with a heavy leather belt. Has Leather armor and heavy boots. He has 2 weapons: a longsword and a short sword - The scabbards were polished black with lacquer and unadorned.
Agree. I really love this series, but using ultra-common pop characters makes it super easy to guess right away. It'd be nice if it was somewhat less common characters. In fairness though, I know it's a tough balance between ones that people would know, but also not immediately recognize :(

love the last one. you made him look like a character from red dead redemption or something. ryuk was interesting too, the prompt does kind of make him sound like a weird gang member out of context
But he is a weird gang member. They are just really hardcore.
I cracked myself up guessing the second one (Ryuk) as Yzma🤣🤣
