Solid advice, though TRP doesn't butcher the African names as much as others do. The one name nearly all American/Euro journalists/media butcher is Cheptegei, where the 'ei' understandably becomes 'ai' in English. I've watched so much TRP content I nearly found myself saying 'Cheptegai' 😂.
The womens Marathon World Record had it's home im Chicago for years before it went to Berlin for a brief moment. It's true he was flying and he is missed.
I wasnt expecting a WR for mens and women's today, i wasnt expecting a sub 2:03 for men's either. So i'm happy about the results exceeding some expectations for this event!
Kiptum is such a great loss. He had so much potential; it’s hard to estimate just how fast he would have eventually become. That said, Chepngetich is an absolute legend! Congrats to her for such an inspired performance!
And the crazy part is, while the temperature and humidity were great for a marathon, the wind wasn't. And Chepngetich still went under 2:10. To do that with the winds we have here in Chicago today just takes her time to another level. Like imagine what she could do if she didn't have to run into a headwind or swirling winds for miles. On top of that, she's self coached. She's got no one telling her what to do in training sessessions or helping with race strategy. Also the absence of Kiptum really stung, because if he was here, a course he knows, he'd be going for the sub 2 hour marathon.
It's just incredible how far away even the top male athletes were from touching Kiptum's record set last year. Makes me wonder if anybody will break this for many decades to come. RIP Kiptum.
A 2 minute jump in 2023 and then another 2 minute jump in 2024? Legend if she's clean... but with the scandals lately I'll believe it after an investigation
After all the videos you published about recent doping scandals, I wonder how much was her percentage of improvement from her previous PR, especially looking at how “fresh” she looked while jumping up and down with the Kenyan flag! So color me skeptic!
Using how fresh she looked at the end is a stupid way of guessing she’s on drugs. Do you think she didn’t have to try as hard because she was doling or something?
She had a minute to rest. If you ever done running seriously. You know that even 30 seconds give you fresh legs for another set of 800s. This was pure joy at the moment. No statements yet but im sure this record gets approved.
@@samcremin1486 I wrote "fresh" and not fresh! And I also wrote that I wonder how big was her percent improvement compared with her previous PR. @@ZiggyMeister yeah fair enough so what you want about the guy. I know you didn’t literally mean fresh but even bringing up that she was able to run a bit afterwards is useless
The record has fallen from 2:14 to 2:11 and now down to 2:09 in the last few years. Call me a skeptic but I’m not buying any of these times as being clean. This is just my opinion and it is not based on any other information except watching marathons and new world records over several decades. The second place female was almost 8 minutes back! It’s amazing how she was able to run, with her flag, so effortlessly after the race. Maybe it is a secret interval workout that nobody else has ever thought of before that allows her to run so fast.
I agree. I've been following the sport since the 1960s. I remember 2:08 being set by Derek Clayton in 1969, and no one even got close to that for many years. He said that he trained so hard that he sometimes pissed blood. Now every Tom Dick Harry (even Sally!) does this with ease. Sadly, athletics no longer excites me.
I was shocked about the women marathon result. Breaking 2:10 for the 1st time ever in history didn’t expect this at all. This is a really huge accomplishment of not only a women runs sub 5 minute mile pace for the entire marathon but breaking 2:10 marathon by a few seconds at the same time. Crazy part is that exactly 5 years ago Euild Kipchoge 1st human ever to run a sub 2 hour marathon. 5 years right after Ineos 1:59 marathon completed on October 12, 2019 now a women broke 2:10 marathon on October 13, 2024. Human has no limit.
Wr in women side is absolute insane. Remember years ago paula 2:15 wr is untouchable. Now we have a sub 10. Good god. And RIP kiptum. What a talented athlete.
The pre race forecast showed a pretty stiff wind coming from the North that was supposed to start sometime after the race started. If they started heading north with no headwind then got a stiff tailwind after heading back south from Lakeview, that might have been the optimal boost needed to crush the back half. The down side is that last couple miles then turns back up north and slight uphill to the finish so have to fight the thing that helped half of the way.
That's my guess too. This does explain the fast 25km. But only about 8-11 km do have this honest tail wind. I guess Kiror did use it in to last section heading south before turning back into the city center.
@@paxundpeace9970 yeah it by no means diminishes a phenomenal showing. But had it been the opposite conditions it would have been tougher for sure. I'm curious how that compares to men's timing. That's got to be better than a sub 2 marathon for men. I definitely did not comprehend her time at all when I first saw it. Idk if I've ever been this shocked by a world record.
