I remember being 13 and watching videos of bender launching off cliffs then heading out all inspired and full of adrenaline with a hardtail bike I bought from Kmart dropping off pretty much everything we could find around town trying to be like him hahaha soo many buckled rims!
i rode wit bender for a couple weeks yrs ago , hes the nicest guy ever and a real piece of work in the best possble way. ive never met a more humble decent present buddah like maniac ever!!!! GO BIG OR GO HOME!
I remember when I was younger watching the jaw drop for the first time when he first did it and I couldn’t believe it. This guy is a legend, albeit a somewhat insane legend
Technically though, it was the Jah drop. Bender actually got me into this sport. I walked into a bike store back in 2001 to see a video of him doing this stuff.
The biggest reason he would spill so often is because he is very short like myself. We don't have the luxury of using our legs as suspension hence he had to run the giant long travel suspension. When he landed a huge drop the seat would slam into his ass and catapult him over the bars time and time again. A lankier rider like Tyler "Super T" Klassen has long legs that helped him to absorb the landings much more effectively. Got to give Josh props for having balls enough to huck big drops even though he wasn't really built for it.
super sick and the biggest balls of steel i've ever seen bro. these dudes, esp josh bender pioneering rampage to what it is today, and hopefully it stays gnarly with less and less slope style jumps, and more and more wicked sick lines and amazing drops and gaps!
Josh Bender: The Pioneer of Big Drop Freeriding. With a balls out attitude this guy was the inspiration for Red Bull Rampage! His bike was one of a kind as well, 12 inch travel front & rear I believe. I wonder what he would have accomplished if he rode a motocross bike.
The same people who called him Reckless and an idiot in the early 2000s are the ones calling him a Visionary now. How ironic is that. I've looked up to Josh Bender since I was a teen and due to this day. I've yet to see a single person hit that Kamloops drop
First MBUK I bought at 11 years old had photos of his Jaw Drop in it, I didn't think the pictures were real. He went the biggest every time, massive respect to the true legend that is Josh Bender.
unfassbar wenn man denkt einen drop gefahren zu sein der 20 30 meter hat und danach aufsteht nachdem man ohne bike landet. das hab ich gespürt! great event! meinen größten respect!
@@yi-vanstudenov464 bender was jump on karpiel with 12 in trevel with marzocchi super monster with 12 in too. and there was another fork with 16 in trevel !
If he did anything else with his life other than live in the desert and jump mountain bikes off of cliffs, it would have been a waste of the last name Bender. Man this guy is sick!
did he build a bike and put a dirtbike fork on it?? he's riding it like the front end is suuuuper heavy in a couple of those shots, and it looks like its got at least 10 inches of travel in it.

HAHAHHA exactly, almost broke my neck and a lot of bikes, we were dumb and rubery back then .
Man SAME!!! I had to bring a small baby hammer and a spoke tightened on my trips to realign my wheels as I went 😂
And collapsed forks! 🤣
Haha are kmart bikes any good?

Josh has been my best friend since we were 4. Proud of him, and his accomplishments.
Way to go big, brother. Always.

I remember watching some of these drops especially the last one when I was a teenager.

And now those drops are in the Rampage runs :D
My boy Josh, hasn't changed that much at all. still riding knarly trails in Georgetown!
Sad the rampage is now a bmx event
Bender is and always will be a free ride legend
got my 1st downhill rig, 2016 aurum, the biggest thank you to all!
Life’s to short not to go big, gotta go big. - they were words from the wisest
Just left hanging out with Mr.Bender and have to say he is one of the most amazing people I have ever known!
- Love Skunky
Whoever disliked this is just jealous
The Jaw drop! Epic stuff right there.
Classic Bender senders

the jaw drop....never seen anything like that until that clip came out....unfuckin-believeable.......cheers to you Bender!!!
I MET HIM IN SPRINGDALE UTAH hes the best!(about the same time 2001)
Jaw drop is about 5 minutes from my house
new world disorder for my real old g's
NWD was what got me hucking my bike off just about every vertical face I could find with a decent landing

Mike Bromelow I thought it was just the weight of his giant balls bottoming out the suspension
also he it looked like he never had any rebound damping
I think the dampening technology back then wasn't very advanced. There seems to be no rebound control whatsoever

In north italy people still remember him for eating pizza sat at the restaurant with the helmet on (at bike festival in Riva del Garda)

Never knew he was a slopestyle rider
THANK YOU BENDER!!!

When I was 10 NWD1 dropped. I can confidently say Bender was the one who got me into this. Thank you Josh
Bender must've bent a lot of bikes :p
Awesome vid
2gnv9r hahaha you couldn't bend the Karpiel if you tried, that thing was solid steel with like 23 inches of suspension travel😂😂
NOT his Canfield....Lots of those ellswhatevers though
I bent an Ellsworth at half the size drops that Bender did 😂😂😂
@@canfieldbikes6717 do you still have the ability to make the old frame he used? 😊
Thanks Josh Bender
crazy how the stuff he was doing back then STILL looks big... even by today's standards
Double Down changed my world and pulled me out of spandex/XC lol and into the freeride/DH world.
I CAN'T WAIT FOR RED BULL RAMPAGE 2016!! ONLY 3 MORE DAYS WOOHOO!!!!
Yeeeah!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR RED BULL RAMPAGE 2022!! ONLY 3 MORE DAYS WOOHOO!!!!
"When people go out and try the things that I'm doing and get hurt, I shake my head and say natural selection." This is still in my mind
NWD vídeos good memories Bender.Robbie and all guys
the segment with robbie and that dude from Kona on the quad in NWD2 had some gnarly riding
Augusto Vale я
I first saw him in Crusty Demons of Dirt. So sick.
hell yea! i grew up watching bender and all the dudes on drop in back when i was about 10. got me hooked on this!
I remember seeing him in crusty demons back in the day thinking he was nuts
Josh is The RAMPAGE
One of if not the most famous features at oldsite - The Bender Sender 😊

nwd was the entry in to mtb and even today iam intrested what the riders are doing today :D
The Seth Enslow of mountain biking
Josh bender, um dos maiores ídolos do esporte! Uma lenda viva.
can't wait for the race 👍👍👍
Imagine him on a modern bike , that’s so ghetto on a ancient free ride rig
Dead set Freeride LEGEND. Has anyone attempted the imfamous Jaws drop ? Is it still there today ?
unfassbar wenn man denkt einen drop gefahren zu sein der 20 30 meter hat und danach aufsteht nachdem man ohne bike landet.
das hab ich gespürt!
great event!

go big or go home. love that shit
I wonder if Benders still riding… or if he’s still hittin big drops
Still riding but not near as rowdy anymore ❤
@@sambender6027 I’m super happy to hear it! And that’s understandable. U related?
Now, where's Tyler Super T?
Yeah dude ikr!
He still shreds hard, but just does it with his buddies instead of a camera!
This dude is a legend
has anyone ever landed jaw drop?
no
lol
A lot of people called bullshit on bender for that drop, didn't see them trying it though..........
Maybe one day they’ll design a bike with 12 inches front and rear, make the suspension super stiff, then it might be doable

Still my no1 hero: bender the sender!
Remember him from the New World Disorder videos in 2002
I went to HS with this guy. Cool dude.

They are Risse bigfoot forks with 12" travel. He also used marzocchi super monsters which are also 12" travel. Both are made for mountain bikes.
Marz monster was a great fork but super monster was just for Bender skills ;)
He rode Karpiel Apocalypse.
It feels like it was his bike, and the recoil from the suspension which let him down. If he was on a modern bike most of those would be makes!
Just found out my uncle grew up with Josh Bender
Whos your uncle?!
cool video all 3 drops josh bender has ever landed are on this video
minute 1:00 wich is the name of that bike
Rares Miroiu karpiel Apocalypse
I remember reading about bender in mbuk in like 2003/2004 and just think this guy is fucking nuts, rad dude
this is the grnaley thing I've ever seen in an opening scene
oh man josh bender. wow! a god among us! 😂
Did anyone ever stick the Jah Drop landing or is Bender the only guy who tried it still?
He was the only one. He tried it 4 or 5 times and never landed it. I’ve seen it in person and it’s insane anyone would even think to try that
Wish he was judging the runs. Silva and Fairclough would have been on the podium for sure.
What a guy !!!
very badass dude.
a wise man once told
only bender can break a double track
Legend
Bender is my favourite rider
We got a Josh Bender fan right here.
He seems like the Seth Enslow of Mountain Biking
Karpiel for life
Bender sending it like a nut! Classic Jaw Drop fuck yea
Can fly!
mindbender , a rad lemming.
