Mob mentality voting for mr. popularity. His run could easily be accomplished by the top 10 riders. "Freeride" is just elementary level slopestyle but with creativity and more raw terrain. The winning runs were actually amazing
@@BGraves no one is denying, the winning runs were truly amazing. Fairclough's run is much more unique and rugged, more risky and more technical, and that gets into more of what freeride is. Making your own path and not having the perfect jumps but doing it anyways, while still throwing in some tricks. Many fans think those aspects were what made Rampage unique from other events. The other riders all did phenomenal as well.
@@pythin2040 risky!?!? hucking down those mega gaps at 45mph and missing the landing out of a backflip or a spin is far more risky. His run was creative but hardly the risk of other runs

Brendog is the winner two years in a row. They should tell every judge they have to ride one of the lines down. No tricks, just ride the line. ZERO of them would choose Brendog’s and that’s all you need to know.
I totally agree. The problem is the fact that there has not been any exact criteria HOW to evaluate the ride - for example coeficients for the line difficulty, whether and how to evaluate tricks etc. IMHO: Godziek and Semenuk had the most "beatifull" rides - full of insane tricks etc., Brendog has the most difficult line - totally different from the others. How to exactly evaluate this - difficult stuff! IMHO he could have at least 10+ points.
The venue changes every few years. Can we get a new judging panel? Cam zink could have rode down on a pink tricycle and they would have gave him first place. They constantly punish creativity, exposure and technicality. Fairclough should have been on the podium in 23 & 24. Pretty hard to finish on the podium with a monster sponsorship in a red Bull event. Godziek and Fairclough got robbed. Hopefully they don’t get discouraged and come back. If anything the fans love seeing actual tech and creativity in a free ride comp.
I’m a die hard Brendog fan and I don’t want him to come back in all honesty He gets underscored and he’s got a family now, doesn’t seem worth it I’d rather see him and the boys dig for video projects of their own not a bullshit dead event

@@4mtbexperience Yeah, is not a sponsorship bias coming from Red Bull, is a North American bias coming from the judges (especially the influencial ones: Berrecloth & Bender). But Red Bull should take action, and without sabotaging them they would not act.
Oppo this! Oppo that! Spin to win! WTF... one of the best rampages ever from the hard work the rider's put on display and especially the progression from Fairclough and Tom V.Steez, but the winners always being the ones doing the most slope tricks in a row is getting very old.
Brendog and Godziek were robbed. Semenuk's run did not have anything as big as Godziek's or Brendog's. Rampage means "GO BIG" and slopestyle run packed with tricks is winning. This is against the spirit or Red Bull Rampage. Godziek went full on, huge jumps and huge double backflip. I did not see anything comparable in Semenuk's run to this 2x backflip. In a slopestyle event flipwhip would not win against double flip.

@@BGraves It's like saying riding trails and slopes at the bike park are the same. You ever get stopped by that little rock or have it throw you off line? and it was simply shocking for me and for many from below to see Brendan Fairclough (Brendog) with his bike on that rock the size of a car, almost posing as if it were a gargoyle (we were all screaming). For me, one of the best images of this year, it deserved the People's Choice Award and also a score worthy of a podium.
The judges should not only grade the tricks, they should also give value to the new challenges that the riders face, even if they do it perfectly and it seems easy from a chair and watching a monitor.
That image on the rock (and a similar one from practice) are what Rampage is all about to me. Tom Isted's wild ride in practice is up there too.
My condolences go out to freeride mountain biking, rest in peace...

Why?
@@dirtyburrito7108because a slope style run just won the event and a near perfect freestyle run scored as low as riders that basically crashed. Call it crankworks Utah next year
@@ChildrenOfWhistlerhonestly it’s just sad, Brendon got robbed for riding a true free ride line
Agreed it’s hard to imagine that free ride had turned into trick jumps.
What a joke! Brendog's excuse for not getting a higher score is he needed Amplitude, Amplitude and Amplitude. Comes Godziek and takes Amplitude to another level until Semenuks does a tail whip, and all the judges freak out. Please be f@#$ing consistent. We are going to start thinking that the passport that you carry decides if you can win or not.
It’s felt for a while (whether true or not) that being mates with the judges seems to matter.
C’est pas nouveau…
This is an american event so the judges have given the majority of wins in the past to americans. Only one european has ever won in over 20 years which is remarkable since in Downhill Racing for example the top level is dominated by europeans, so it's not like mountain bike riders are any worse over here.
So true, but maybe more likely who sponsors you decides if you win or not
Brendog again shows the true spirit of Rampage with the most natural technically difficult (and with the most consequence) to ride track with a couple purpose built trick jumps.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Brendog, but as good as his run was, I agree with his result. Everything is just gnarly and I don’t think that his run was big and gnarly enough.

@@gaiuspeteros It's really not though.

I’m certain they used to… didn’t they? 😂
yeah they got rid of that one, and everyone seems to want it back now. I dont get what happened to it🤔🤔
Riding was insane, but so were the judges.

I’m a die hard Brendog fan and I don’t want him to come back in all honesty
He gets underscored and he’s got a family now, doesn’t seem worth it
I’d rather see him and the boys dig for video projects of their own not a bullshit dead event
I agree Brendog should have podiumed, but I do think Zink was deserving of his win last year. It was the pinnacle of freeride. Super loose and steep, crazy fast, gigantic jumps, and a few tricks
Cam zink is sponsored by Monster but it seems to me like his has some judges on his packet.
@@4mtbexperience Yeah, is not a sponsorship bias coming from Red Bull, is a North American bias coming from the judges (especially the influencial ones: Berrecloth & Bender). While there will always be some subjectivity, daylight robberies were always on non-North American riders (Brendog, Andreu, Bienve, Bizet...). But Red Bull should take action, and without sabotaging them they would not act.

If I have to hear Cam McCaul explain why an oppo tail whip is "insanely technical" one more time...
Many young fellas just learnt another lesson that going against the current, being yourself and taking conceptional risks worth nothing.

Godziek, Semenuk, and Van Steenbergen. How MCCaul got top 3 is questionable. But I’m not an MTB guy so I can’t comment on freeride vs slopestyle but there is definitely two styles trying to be judged as one. Sorry freeride, but as a pure spectator slopestyle is more entertaining. IMHO
Brendog needs to file charges after that robbery. Also the judges need to be drug test.
Josh Bender probably wouldn't pass that 😂
Brendog's run was sick and technical! Wow, he was robbed.
Just call it a slopestyle competition if that's how it's scored. Brendon with a completely unique line with some unbelievable features and pulls it off flawlessly yet gets overlooked because he didn't do enough flips?
Rampage isnt what it once was, some of those calls from the judges were trash, Brendog for one, while not a winning run, deserved way higher score, no wonder so few went back for a second run, and Isted choosing not to do the second, why would they put their lives on the line for a BS call from those judges!
