TRIP REPORT | Perfect Long-Haul on A380! | London to San Francisco | British Airways A380

- British Airways Trip Report flying from London to San Francisco, onboard one of the amazing British Airways A380's, on a beautiful spring afternoon.
A very comfortable flight from London to San Francisco onboard the British Airways A380. We were lucky enough to have the middle seat empty during the flight which increased even more the comfort. However, I must say that the British Airways A380 cabin was the worst A380 cabin I've seen to date: the legroom could be better and the IFE is extremely outdated (not even tactile...).
We took off from Heathrow towards the east and quickly made a left turn to fly towards the north of England. We left the UK over the Glasgow area. From there we flew towards the south of Iceland and Greenland. We flew over the south of Greenland, next to Cape Farell. The views were more than amazing. We saw the Sea Ice, glaciers, mountains, bays... Greenland is one of the most amazing places in the World to see from the sky.
From there we crossed the Labrador Sea heading towards Canada. We reached Newfoundland and Labrador around 1h30min after Greenland. Here we could see again the Sea Ice. But this time it was the real one: millions of small pieces of ice floating over the sea, moved by the ocean currents. What a beautiful planet we have!
Afterwards, we flew over Quebec and Ontario, before entering the US. We flew over the States of North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, and, finally, California. We landed around 20 minutes late in San Francisco after a beautiful approach over the Bay.
About the onboard service, the lunch was served just after takeoff. There were 2 options: chicken or pasta. I took the chicken option. It came with some potatoes and beans. The salad was based on some cereal that I couldn't identify. The dessert was a tiny chocolate mousse. It was tasty, but it was really small. Everything together was a very small portion.
1h before landing in San Francisco, which means around 8h after the first meal, the crew offered the second service. It really surprised me that it was again another full warm meal (without bread and butter). I chose the chicken option again. On this occasion, it was a chicken curry with rice. It came with a quinoa salad with a base of yogurt, and an apple crumble as dessert.
The most awkward moment of the flight, without a doubt, was when they passed the coffee & tea service. I asked for a coffee and when they passed it to me it fell completely over me. Luckily it wasn't very warm and it didn't injure me at all. They offered me a 1st Class pijama that you'll be able to see on the Trip Report. The strangest moment in my more than 1.500 flights? Probably yes :)

Regarding the "gentleman" who "invited" himself to your row and started making demands, only to isolate himself from you, if I were in your place, I would have very suddenly and very allegedly developed a urinary tract infection, having the need to visit the bathroom every 20 minutes or so. I'm pretty good at passive aggressive!

You should have told that idiot to put his blindfold on if the light disturbed him.
How are you defending this guy? The fact that he kept his window up despite the cabin lighting being turned off shows who is actually in the wrong here. When lights are off it means they are trying to give the passengers a chance to sleep, it's very hard to sleep when half of the cabin is super bright.
I'm betting that guy had a middle seat and saw the open aisle seat and decided to take it. Oh well if he didn't like the shade being open, he should've went back to his seat.

There's a lot of reports on the internet about people's behavior on planes. Not booking seats with family members, demanding a window seat and just being rude in general. Glad I haven't come across this yet, that person would regret even speaking to me.

Whenever I get three seats to myself (very rare) I sit in the middle one to try to dissuade anyone from taking the one on the aisle.
Wonderful experience on London-Miami-London route last year also with A380. It was my first long-houl flight and I was aiming for the A380 flight. That route suited me just perfect because I had a cruise from Orlando. The BA crew did an outstanding job, the food was delicious, there was no shortage of drinks, just a wonderful experience. I am looking forward to book another flight with BA on one of the flights that are served with A380.
I travel BA a lot, both long and short haul, and honestly have zero issues with the aircraft, service, catering or airports. I find Air France, KLM and Lufthansa to be much more variable with many more disappointing experiences onboard those airlines than ever with BA. Great video, thanks for making it.

I recently flew with BA on the A380, and also found it to be a good experience.
Fortunately I had nothing spilt on me 😆 It was very good of the crew to provide you with the pyjamas!

Great vid and excellent details of flight. The only time you may have a problem with the window being closed is when cabin crew request it but certainly not for a passenger who is not in his allotted seat, it has happened to me when a pax told me to close the window rather than ask, I told him where to go and the window stayed open as to me it’s the most enjoyable part of the flight. Glad you enjoyed the onboard service but getting a coffee shower is not normally part of the service unless requested lol

I agree, it is amazing nobody is interested in those amazing Arctic views. Maybe they fly the route a lot, but even so! I flew it once a very long time ago and was amazed by how incredibly vast and remote large parts of the world still are. As a bonus, coming home again, after take off, we turned above the Golden Gate bridge and I was on the right side of the plane for another spectacular - but this time man made - sight.

Great flight report thank you! I only had the opportunity to fly BA on short haul but whenever i fly Zurich to London i always chose BA over Swiss.

I really like your trip reports. They cover all the aspects of modern day flying, and the wonders of mother Earth. the take off and landings are included. You also show and include unreasonable people, [as on this flight with "Blanket Man"} and I was pleased that you refused to close your window blind. Perhaps he should have chosen a different seat!!!

What fantastic footage of the ice around Greenland and Canada - just beautiful! The chap who took the aisle seat - what a cheek! I flew this flight on the same aircraft back in Feb 20 just before the pandemic - I was sat upstairs in economy, which was very tight - the groud floor has much more space due to the width of the fuselage at that point - upstairs the fuselage is narrowing and it's not very comfortable. Fortunately I got upgraded to Premium Economy which was very welcome and definitely worth paying for. The extra space, comfort and food etc was vastly superior - though sadly I didn't have a window seat - it was worth moving though. What a nightmare they spilled coffee all over you - a good job you weren't scalded that would have been very painful and a long wait for treatment.

Hola, como siempre, tan excelentes vistas, que tal como es el mundo de hoy, los pasajeros prefieren un modo electrónico en lugar de observar lo maravilloso que es nuestro mundo en realidad y no tras una pantalla. Veía Terranova, y recordaba al Tit👏👏👏👏anic, tantos días para un viaje como el tuyo, de apenas unas horas. Los mismos lugares, mismo hielo y frio. Muy buen servicio, a pesar de ser una compañía inglesa. Pensé seria algo mas espartano. Muchas gracias, por todo lo que nos haces vivir.
Es falta de curiosidad. Así viven, sin tener que saber que occurre en el mundo. 😉 Así llega un dictador y la falta de democracia, un día, sin que se den cuenta.

A very good video thank you. I also am amazed at just how uninterested most people seem to be in their surroundings these days. No matter where I am, train, bus etc. I seem to be the only person not glued to a small screen of some description.

I share your preference for a window seat! I can't understand people who don't want to look outside at the wonders of the natural world beneath, even if they have travelled several times before.
It baffles me too. I mean, we all like watching movies and what have you, but we can do that anywhere, anytime. How often does one get the chance to look at Greenland or the wastelands of Canada from 7 miles up in the air?

We hit air turbulance over the equator and dropped something like 200 ft. First, all my coffee flew up out of the cup, then landed back on my lap. It's not a good feeling! The air hostess brought me a tin with soda water to clean my dress. Amazingly, it worked like a bomb...😊
