A trip on British Airways in First Class on the A380 superjumbo, is one to be looked forward to. However, I boarded this flight with some trepidation. Has there been a sharp downturn in service since the pandemic?
Definitely not, it would seem, with excellent food, fantastic wine, a great seat, and best of all, a visit to the very exclusive Concorde Lounge.
I sample it all, with a tasting of every wine and cocktail on board, plus meals in the lounge, and both meals on board, keeping a tongue firmly in both cheeks.
Just how I like my premium travel reviews: with a shed-load of booze - a healthy amount of monotone sarcasm and a good splash of light-hearted disdain. And lets be honest, this guy deserves major props for not requiring his stomach to be pumped upon landing. This is my kind of middle-class high-functioning borderline alcoholism and quite frankly, I'm here for it.

Super report, one of the best I've seen. Full not speeded up take off and landing sequences, the best parts of any flight. A real hero went through the entire drinks menu in seven hours, wow!
As a native of Huddersfield, my ears pricked up when you mentioned it. Were not often featured on such an esteemed platform. Glad you were able to dine as you glided past .. :)

Very good indeed. Did my first 380 First class trip just before Xmas 21. I could not fault the food or drink. The crew did a sterling job. The Concorde lounge is just the best. Since then I have attained my GGL status. So will be making use of that lounge on every trip out of T5 at LHR. (no matter what class I'm flying). I'm into JFK in June, so will be trying the Concorde lounge there. Fly safe.

Seriously, the amount of reviews I watch where the the reviewer seems more interested in getting their face on the screen than showing me the product or location I have come to look at is unbelievable. Great video and I love trip reports when drinking is involved. In no particular order Wine, Champagne and Bloody Mary's, either Vodka or Gin, are my go to drinks at lounges and in the air :) Of course excellent food too! I'll look for your other trips soon. Take care, Mike from Chicago.
Very entertaining video - love your witticisms and keenness to sample everything on the alcoholic drinks menu. A subtle reference to Fawlty Towers w.r.t. Waldorfs.
The Washington Metro (WMATA) will soon connect the airport to their silver line to downtown DC. The stations, tracks, etc are already built. It’s expected to be fully operational this summer 2022.
Absolutely love this review. Finally, someone traveling in First who doesn't take themselves too seriously. Refreshing change from the usual "look at me, I'm in First" style of reviews that are all-too-common on UA-cam. You've just gained a new subscriber!

Nice vlog, loved your appreciation of English Sparkling. Washington Duels is actually pronounced Washington Dull ess. Hattingley Valley now has a Chardonnay called Still that is quite delicious and not like all those oaky, buttery ones.

ISTM that BA's still too patchy to risk unless you have to go somewhere.
Hawkes Bay isn't in Marlborough mate. HB is in the North island and that wine is grown a few kms out of Havelock North. A pretty sweet spot. Marlborough is top of the South Island.
At least you know where the two provinces are…

Top marks for describing the cabin crew as obsequious, a word sadly neglected nowadays and also this sentence

Glad the A380 is back. I was concerned that they would be permanently dropped due to the pandemic.
I thought BA binned them all? Glad to see they didn't.
@@rustystuff Placed them into temporary storage but kept them maintained throughout so they always aimed to return them. They've signed a new maintenance contract for them with Lufthansa for at least 5 years (probably longer)

It is unique if you enjoy BA and enjoy hearing frequent references made about expensive wine lists and plebs in J and Y. Let’s face it, most First Class tix are paid by businesses who need to get people from A to B safely, on time and ready to do business. BA fail abjectly in this regard. Safe yes but on time? With your luggage consistently arriving at the same time and destination as you? I think not. In fact, as an ex BA Gold, I know not.

It has always gripped my shit why nobody hits the sauce during their flight reviews, especially when they are in the premier classes..."ooo i dont drink on a flight its gives me headaches...or i like to feel fresh on the aircraft" .....bollocks its the main reason for booking first and business ( if you forget the seat that its) , saying that I get hammered even in the cheap seats. The Hawkes bay is actually on New Zealand’s north island, not South Island and no where near Marlborough.. I should know cos I live in Marlborough

Good to see someone trying all the drinks. I'd prefer you focus on the food and drink as you told about it versus suddenly moving to a random shot of the engines or a in flight map. Also prosciutto is pronounced pro-shoo-too

It appears to have done, at least for later in the day flights.
The First boarding (and deboarding) experience at BA's hub at LHR leaves a lot to be desired when compared with others such as Lufthansa, Swiss and Air France for example at their hubs.
I agree that the seats are reasonably comfortable... but I've yet to find a First seat that beats Swiss in terms of comfort, particularly for sleeping. 1A/1K in the A380 on BA I find are the most private, but the downside is that the crew frequently open and close the adjacent storage cupboard under the stairs during the cruise to get out bedding: they have irritatingly noisy catches!
You do realise that the retail price of almost all the white table wines on BA's onboard First wine list is barely about 20 quid, and about 40 quid for the red Bordeaux? At least the LPGS is available to correct for that disappointment. The biggest problem I have with BA's wine list (and other carriers) is that zero attempt is made to select wines to match the food menu.
I admire your fortitude regarding lubrication, I do exactly the same if I don't have any commitments.
I agree with the point about the boarding experience, honestly with a terminal as spread out as T5 is, it would be an excellent service for BA to provide a car service to drive Passengers from the Concorde room to their gate, only thing would be needing a way to get directly from the lounge to ground level. A fleet of range rovers would do the job well. The first check in and security are all seamless, so this would complete the process.

A comprehensive quality review. I felt you could have trimmed it down by editing out every cabin announcement in full, & the extensive footage of taking off & landing. 39 minutes is quite an endurance test, as excellent a report as it was 🙏.
I did used to speed up the takeoff and landing, but I got a load of comments asking me to stop doing this. I'm almost at the stage of asking for a vote: do people want a short video, or one with everything played longform? Happy to do this either way.
Great to see this video as did a similar trip a few weeks ago to Washington... wasn't an a380 but the spec was better, larger screen... it was a good flight, first time in first so the concorde lounge was a highlight. Washington however was fairly disappointing, after a few days I really had run out of things to do. I have 7 more first class flights booked with Emirates and Qatar so I have the travel bug for a few more travel experiences!

@@visionist7 The Concorde Room is very easy to find. It’s on the far right of Terminal 5.
There isn’t an aircraft in the BA fleet that is better in first than the A380. The first suite in the A380 is far roomier than a 777 or 787. It is roomier than A380 first class suite on Emirates as well, where the curvature of the upper deck feels confining and the aisle is narrow. The bling on EK has grown a bit long in the tooth after 8 or so years flying EK F from LAX to DXB, but I still like the shower suites. Unlike what other commenters say, BA F is unlike a business class product. Clearly they’ve not experienced it. BTW, unless you are a history buff, I’m not sure why you’d stay in Washington for more than a few days unless you have friends there.

In my experience, an airport lounge is where people wait for their flight (or next flight, if they’re transiting) to depart, while enjoying a drink, some food, and maybe a shower/nap in the cabana. What did you expect it to look like - a bowling alley?
