DIY Van Build - Promaster 2500 159WB - Installing Ceiling and Lights - Part 7

- New project!! We will be building out a 2021 Dodge Promaster 2500 159 inch wheel base van and turning it into a beautiful tiny home on wheels.
I have built a sailboat, a dinghy, two teardrops and an RV. What better way to combine all builds into one, than to build out a van and enjoy many travels! Journey with me as I put my skills to the test and turn an ordinary cargo van into a luxurious dwelling place on wheels!
We will compliment this van with a full size bed, bench seating for two, running water, full electric, propane cooking appliances, lights throughout, outside shower, and top it off with solar power to run everything. And to add that extra flare… we will do it in BATMAN style!
I hope to see you until the end when we will do a complete tour of the finished van. I hope you like it!
Thanks for staying tuned and watching the videos… now, let’s get started

For ever... and after the build, a year from now, you will mention it to people admiring your work.
LOL! Probably right....
Great work, Al!!! Congrats on that stage! I was thinking exactly the same, as you were talking about it! It's going to hunt you *forever*! Jajaja... see you next week!
Wow, I've watched hundreds of videos & you just blew my mind! I love how you put up your ceiling by yourself, with just adding those little pieces of wood to lock your ceiling in 🤯 now I know how to do it by myself 👍 Thanks
Thank you so much for checking it out! You got this! :)
Been six days and I am going through withdrawal ;) Looking forward to the next video so I came back and watched some others again!
Looking great OBM! I can't wait to see more. Stay safe and thanks for sharing.
Thanks man... coming together!
With all the carpeting and sound deadening materials you are using in this build, this is going to be one very quiet van!
Took it for a drive, and man... it is really quiet! I can hear the ringing in my ears loud and clear! :)
Looking really good, love how well the lights go with that carpeted ceiling. keep it up
Keepin' on keepin' on! :)
Hi, appreciate all the detail and effort you put into these videos. The framing is especially helpful for me as I am at that stage with my promaster. Cheers!
Merci beaucoup
You're awesome dude
Nice work. A guy once told me - its the small oddities that make it a work of art instead of just ho-hum perfection with nothing to notice or talk about. Try not to let it bug you too much :)
Once it's covered... out of sight, out of mind! :) Thanks Kenneth!
It's really looking great!!
Thanks Frank!
Wow the framing looks awesome. I especially like how you did the rearmost ceiling framing to not block the holes going to the backup camera housing.
Thank ya SoCal!!
Great job
Thank ya Randy!!
Great video again Al! Yep, I also noticed that color variation on the port side of the ceiling, I liked your comment about the fact that it will bug you for a long time: project builders are the only one to see "variations" in their own job, nobody else will notice them, but still, it is annoying... Good tip for solo workers, those rotating cleats to hold the ceiling!
I decided not to switch it around as it would have definitely ruined my panel, also knowing that it will be hidden behind a cabinet will be easier to look at! :) Making the cleats helped a lot, when working alone... you have to come up with a way to make 3 or 4 arms to help out! LOL!
Have you considered painting the fan trim the same color as ceiling or the light rings?
Very thorough video with several great tips especially the carpet grain. Forever!!!!🦇
Thank you Stuart! I am liking the contrasting colors of the trim and light rings... brightens it up just enough! :) Thinking of keeping it as is!
Great video. Looks really good. Did you remember to install screws down the center as you planned?
Hi Hibie One... yes, all screwed in place now and holding tight!
Batman, What kind of material is it that you are using for the ceiling and where did you purchase it. Thanks for the great video!
It;s called Charcoal Gray Automotive Trunk Liner Upholstery Cloth Auto Pro Flexible 54"W and purchased from Ebay. Hope that helps! al
I like your approach. Thanks for sharing! What type and thickness of plywood did you use for the wall and ceiling panels?
Thank you sir... I used 1/4" Luan for the side panels and ceiling, nice and flat and easy to wrk with.
@@OregonBatman thanks for the info. sounds good!
My new neighbors are loud too .
LOL! Seems they are only loud when I fire up the camera, other than that... I have to look around to make sure they still live there. Ha Ha!
@@OregonBatman 😂
Nice set up sir ..
I want to do something like that on my van.
What are the dimensions on the plywood did you use if you don't mind sharing..
Hey mtbbuddys! I used 4 x 8 sheets of 1/4" ply for the ceiling. I can't remember the exact dimensions, as I made the cuts as I was building. All that to say, I don't think any two will be alike. I have 12" pieces on the sides and then made the center pieces the exact dimensions to fill it in. If I had to build another, I am sure they wouldn't be the same dimension. Sorry if that's not too much help... I do thank you for checking it out.
I love it but alas, I don't have your patience. I will try when we get some warmer weather in North Dakota. NICE WORK.
I agree! I'm in hybernation until it warms up! :)
Where did you get the contoured roof gasket for the fan assembly?
Hi TG M... got that at DIYVAN.COM
diyvan.com/products/promaster-roof-vent-adapter
therer a promaster playlist?
Sorry, not yet… I have to work on that
I would have taken that backwards carpet down it would bug me reguardless.
Thought about it... several times, but decided to keep it. It will be hidden behind the cabinets and I won't have to see it anymore! :)
@@OregonBatman I agree with that choice. If it's not exposed, it's functional rather than decorative. So the grain direction is irrelevant since it is serving its purpose just as well.
@@toronado455 Absolutely... and once the cabinets are up, gone!
Yes carpeting has a grain LOL!
HA! Some of us still find out the hard way! :)
Someone completely sabotaged my build. Bought materials I cannot return and purposely gave me incorrect measurements. I am so exhausted. Since May my van has been at this man's house and the only thing he did was install the Maxx Fan and... The floor was cut improperly and woe is me. Is it possible for you to provide me with some dimensions so I can get the people at Home Depot to make the cuts?
Truly sorry about that dilemma! Not sure if any of the dimensions I give would help too much as my build is different from yours. I do give the dimensions of the framing in the video I made of installing the framing... I hope that would help some.
@@OregonBatman thanks. I will check it out
