i have been missing video from this channel but every time I had the chance to view the videos, I will always get a new lesson from Coach Han. This is a revelation from the split step and I totally agree Coach Han technique on press down and push will be much faster . I realised coach always love to wear high cut sneakers . I will try this technique tonight during my badminton session
The split step is mostly a single thing, it is an anticipattion step so that you could push off early, thus it need to be performance a little bit before your opponent hit. During the split second doing the split step you would need to watch and read your opponent closely and to correctly land, by landing the feet going the opposite to the direction you want to go first to push off from it. With this you saved a split second pushing, and in the case where you got fooled, you still have an chance to correct by pushing the feet that hadn't landed yet. Obviously, usually you could still get to the shuttle in most case without doing split step. But for pros, they want every advantages they can get, they want to get to the shuttle a bit earlier, so that they can make a better shot. By saying this, the in-the-middle defend split step could be done way earlier before your opponent hit the shuttle, as it mainly to ensure your legs are widen enough to reach for the shuttle, but the pros still do it with the same timings mainly for consistency and keeping a smooth, rhythmic footwork. I think starting by learning this non-directionaly split step is wrong, and making the beginners not understanding the real reason for split stepping, which is a safe anticipation method, helping you to anticipate but with a good chance to correct if we got fooled. We mostly doing this the defend non-directional split step for footwork consistency purpose. Obviously the split step is good when you get better and can start to read the shots from most opponents, explosive enough and have good stamina, if you cannot do that yet the split step actually might make you worse. And in doubles, pros actually hopping around to keep predicting and adjusting their positions to better anticipate the next shots, and not really to push off quicker like in single, this is because reach is not as big of a problem, the beginners however would watch double players hopping with two feet and think pros are doing split steps as in single, but they're not, they usually already stopped moving right the opponent hit, not like in single where they're probably just landed on one feet and are pushing off of it.
I think you are make a really big assumption by saying doubles pros hop with two feet before each shot and they are not doing the split step. Split stepping is not mostly an anticipation step. When you hop and land, your muscles are still contracted and therefore more prepared to do a quick movement and/or change direction. Even doing a neutral split step will prime your muscles for movement despite not giving you any help in anticipation.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but this is what I think so far: Just do a split step but instead of jumping, and THEN landing and THEN pushing off, don't jump. Just split your legs (to lower your center of gravity for stronger push off) while "pressing down" THEN push off. In other words don't jump. Doing this allows you to not need to maintain a low stance (center of gravity) throughout the match, which is unnecessarily burning your energy. After a shot, when recovering back to base just stay relaxed and no need to have very low center of gravity. The exact moment opponent hits the shuttle, you split step (without jumping) then push off immediately. I see most legendary players (Lin Dan, LCW, Kento, Ginting etc) doing similar to what I mentioned
There are times when you should do a split step during a Rally and times when you shouldn't. If you lose your balance or have secured enough timing, you can split step. However, you should not do a split step in a fast Rally.
Learn the basic split step first then as you get better with the timing, then you can add other techniques other techniques such as this. You will see that you do this instinctively anyways when you are a bit late to the shuttle. And it was not pointed in the video that you always do the split step immediately before or at the moment before the shuttle was struck. Anticipation and timing will come with practice and experience. It will be hard at first but when you get the hang of it the rewards will be enormous. I am 50 now and could still move swiftly mainly because of the split step. To each his own.
Wow, good knowledge. I can't time my split step well, maybe pushing down as you taught should be better for me. Anyway, I need to practice more. Thank you!!❤
Hahaha, the moment you push down is the moment you do a split step. It is just another form of split step (the beginer form). Just train harder and play for a few more years, and your push-down will become a professional form of the split step. When your preparation for the next move becomes faster, your jump will be lower, or your legs will just split wider (not jump - the center of gravity of your body just lower) at the right moment to provide momentum for the next move. Besides muscles, a bit of elasticity is also used to generate momentum for the next step, its call split step. Then, watch this video again, you will laugh lol. The split step is used in many sports, not just badminton.
Reply my own commend. People usually say that the split step is the jump you make before your opponent hits the shuttlecock, it not true. It should be the preparation for the next move, it easier to jump, so just jump to train. Look at LCW, Lindan, Momota, Axelsen.... theyre at highest level of split, not jump usualy, just prepare (or split the leg) for the next move.
@@ein-yt it's my first year playing badminton, normally I am always late to the shuttle. So I'll try both pushing and split step to improve my movement. Thank you for mention about keeping CoG low, I tend to shift my body slow because I almost standing up high.
Yes sir, now I can get why I m late in shots. Thnk u very much sir. Sir pls make videos on shot service returns in doubles and return of flick service in doubles game too
Aight I have a question, I have flat feet and often found that without the split step I wont be able to move faster on the court. So would that mean I cant do this motion at all as it seems to be very helpful for fast paced rallies.
@@full-swing So as to my understanding, you split step to gain that little push to move in the direction you need to go, so I guess in a really fast rally you can skip it and you split step when you hit a neutral shot thats high and you can take your time to recover?
Hello! Thanks for the great videos! If I may ask, it would be great to hear what do you think about using the split step against trickshots, maybe there is a need do the split step a little slower ? Because it really messes up everything during the game. With respect, Illia
Good Question. In doubles, trick shots are not often possible. This is because the shuttlecock and Rally are fast. If your opponent frequently uses trick shots, then their strokes are much better than yours. You have to acknowledge your opponent. However, if the opponent is of the same level, they will not be able to perform trick shots frequently. Trick shots are not 100 percent accurate, so they are clearly a weakness. The defender will lose one tempo, but the player who hits the trick shot is not 100 percent. If the opponent frequently uses trick shots, their strokes are much better than yours. You must acknowledge the opponent. However, if the opponent is of the same level, they cannot frequently use trick shots. Trick shots are not In order to avoid being tricked by your opponent, you must basically be as good as your opponent at hitting the ball. There is no shortcut.
I don't know how to do that. But this is the stroke training that elite badminton players do the most. They spend an overwhelming amount of time on this training. ua-cam.com/video/h0d9AyYLNRQ/v-deo.htmlsi=L_LU6cKXaDbp1kbm ua-cam.com/video/7mGr2-7MCow/v-deo.htmlsi=9ssB_kRNT5a8VVTm
Coach Han, most of the badminton coaches teach about split steps as the basic footwork technique. Are you teaching the new revolutionary footwork technique ?
Nice I like the songs these days… btw.. split step gives the impression of a light as feather footwork… your method is much more stable… I tried both and both has its uses, advantage n disadvantages… youngsters can do split step… older players do better with the kind you teach… more stable n more time to observe before hitting with time to change minds… 😊 split step forces the tendency to rush while this one encourages one to chill and rush when they want …. Split step is better for lighter more athletic players while this is for heavier more experienced players so they don’t need to deal with as much momentum …. The best players (non pro) however I have seen uses both at the right time for different purposes…
Interesting to see how this video debunkes 100% of all split step videos on UA-cam. Now I’m really confused as a rookie! 😂 Even the lean forward is exactly the opposite of what every else teach. Bending the body forward will impact the balance and speed back. I must train my leg strength and find a way…
