It’s very hard to have dispassionate policy-and-institution-centered discussion on platforms that reward hyperbole, unaccountability, estrangement and context-free-reframe as a business.
The impossibility of civil discourse and cosmopolitan thought is a social media design choice. Michael Brooks was right: We must be ruthless to systems but kind to individuals. Regrettably, the wealth extracted from social media is built from user behavior that is ruthless to individuals and kind to systems.

No, we are not a monolith, but the majority of BW online were upset by the cover art. While we must have our own beliefs, we must recognize that there are BW tired, victims and hurt by being used and ignored. We should listen to them and learn why they are upset. No matter what, BW are victims of racism and patriarchy and we must have empathy and compassion for one another.

The issue is this for me: Now that unambiguous black females are trying to establish what a black woman is and to define our identity, all of a sudden, it is a problem.
Biracial and multi racial women have never done anything to remove themselves from overrepresentation. If that were true, then we really wouldn’t have the problem the problem we have today. At this point, whether you want to identify it as binary thinking or not, many black women no longer want to be your stepping stools, nor do we want you to feel comfortable speaking for us first. You know you do not represent that majority of what an unambiguous black woman with two black parents looks like, so you shouldn’t be running to speak for us. It is the inability to unseat yourself from your thrown and pedestal to become what you should have been all along… AN ALLY.
Your Pokémon black woman ball is gone. Stop winding up and throwing out your dark skinned unambiguous wide nosed females to fight your battles. It has been over used and we are deactivating the balls. Throw yourself out there about only what represents you. Stop calling all black woman to do anything. We don’t want to. Go to black men first. Go to biracial and multi racial individuals who MAY or MAY NOT identify as black. I don’t care how they identify AS LONG AS you are not calling me TO SERVE you. Serve yourself. Work for yourself. And I’m not longer asking and saying “please” and “thank you”. That’s all. It’s not a big deal. You who are used to mammies serving you while pretending you have black woman problems is ridiculous. Light skinned, and multi racial or biracial woman, DO NOT have the same health outcome and treatment in hospitals as dark skinned and brown skinned unambiguous black women. There is no “WE”. There is YOU and there is ME. That’s it. Best of luck and may you learn how to be an ally.

    • @deee3950

Like, when Frederick Douglas and the like were ok with women who look like you ENJOYING luxury, please believe they had a PROBLEM with unambiguous black women enjoying what they willingly gave to you. We do not and have not historically had the same experience. And to ignore that fact is just gaslighting and intellectual violence.
Black women defining black as “having 2 black parents” in no way shape or form should be problematic. Black women should not be held accountable for other groups feelings, but our own. Rashida Jones is not me. And I am not her. We do not share identities of being “black women” when all of us are not black. Some people want to be black because they like privilege. They are sadists and narcissists. But, do you. Don’t ask me to work for you. I don’t work for you.

    • @lasirenas1

How about black women that have two black parents. Two brown skinned parents... and look ambiguous. As an islander where this is the norm. And moving to America where they judge you and assume they know what you are and where you come from.... the whole shit is a mess. AA’s have a lot of work to do coming together. Too hung up on the light skin bs dark skin crap in my opinion. Yes there is a place and time for it but it gets over blown in my opinion. I say this with love because I never EVER had this problem where I come from or in my family. We aren’t raised that way. I see myself in my dark skinned parents, my cousins, my aunts and uncles and it is what it is. I am a Black woman who comes from a rich black African culture and no one in my family or country sees me differently because some recessive European genes I inherited by the luck of the draw because our grandmothers were raped for multiple generations. Now when it comes down to being biracial that is a whole other ball game, but over HERE we get lumped together and it isn’t cute. I don’t know one white relative. It’s about how people carry themselves, if they know their history and if they know how to support their fellow community in the right ways no matter how we present in the world. Also, AA’s have it messed up because the country you are in is European centered due to being a minority. Not all of us are the standard of beauty in majority black countries. Yes you can be cute but no one is thinking you are special because you have European features of our oppressors. We all stem from the trans Atlantic slave trade. So I see AA’s as my long lost cousins and I wish that everyone could just come together because that unity being nurtured is half the battle. Take the advice from someone who comes from a country where we have achieved that. The white man created this awareness of skin tone and divided y’all on purpose... so you could be exactly where you are today. Divided, and not focusing on strength in numbers and taking down the real enemy. At the end of the day, in America the white man has been allowed to set the beauty standard. Get at the source.

@@deee3950 Okay clearly you don't get it. I am I have two black parents who both have two black parents and I am light skin. Try again thinking that black people don't come in all different colors and shades. Chattel slavery introduced new complexions to black culture. I'll even agree to the arguement that those complexions are valued more by society( fuck those people, am I right? But I digress) but to say that we're not black is disrespectful to the fact that my grandmother literally died with the third grade education because she did not qualify to go to white schools. But go off about how we're not black and have no understanding of the black experience because our skin isn't as dark as beautiful ebony. I will say this though maybe I'm biased maybe growing up with a light skin mother who married a dark man and thinks dark skin is the most gorgeous thing has made me biased🤷🏾‍♀️

I’ve actually watched this video twice because I hadn’t heard about this whole debacle so I was curious and wanted to check out both sides. I had immediately surmised there was probably alot of misunderstanding involved & I would say I was right after listening to the other person’s live & replay of the actual points you made in your initial video. The second person just wanted to be up in some drama. Both engage in commentary (some I enjoy, most I don't) but take everything at face value and do no research. So they get upset when anyone does dig deeper and throw titles at them that they see as negative. The weirdest thing to me is they hate "feminism" but tell women they need to have their own. What movements do they think have granted modern women freedoms our grandmothers didn't have? I also don't understand calling people elitist and classist, while pushing Hypergamy and Black Women in Luxury. I did try to watch a video from one of the content creators she was talking about but I couldn't get through it. It's full of a bunch of misinterpretations of other racial/ethnic groups behaviors compared to black people's to put down Black man. Like, over there they literally ignore history and try to weaponize other races of mans behavior against Black men and in the process still get things about other groups of people wrong. In the video she literally sais Asian women get to be submissive because their men create infrastructure that serve them, as if perceived submissiveness from Asian women is ALWAYS a choice... despite the fact that Asian women have been talkin extensively about how patriarchy and sexism within their varying cultures put women in a position of being truly subservient to men, that the idea of what we Americans perceive as "submissive" is not a choice but rather a much complained about gender dynamic that Asian women have to deal often leaving them responsible for doing most of the housework, child-rearing, keeping quiet about and assult and also expected to work jobs. But to a group of black women who only want to talk about other cultures to weaponize things against black man, the youtuber really doesn't care about the real lived experiences of Asian women & what they have to go through.
A lot of these content creators are simply making this contentl because they know right now on social media there is a collective group of black women who want to find all types of spaces to commiserate about how much the world hates them and how much black men in particular hate them. These types of videos are a gold mine for those trying to get views. The sad thing is there are a lot of people watching these videos who are traumatized by their life experiences but don't see themselves as being traumatized. But I knew there were no ill intentions and after listening to the video for about an hour it was confirmed. I was more turned off by her personally attacking you instead of critiquing your video. I will make a more conscious effort to support you in other ways because I do appreciate your videos. I'm not one for drama... so just keep up the good work girl.

Tell them Jouelzy!!!!!!!! I love your content and For Harriet. I have seen a recent attack on intellectual black women on UA-cam that is disturbing and made me afraid to upload content. I don't know what is going on the other side anymore. I can't even watch the content over there anymore.

I've noticed the last few years that it's getting wild. Like the femininity community was so different when it was just traditional women, then the women looking for a sponsor hijacked the movement and turned it into bashing any woman and man who don't fit their beliefs. Ironically, many of them don't themselves, which is why they use profile pics of models.

Apparently, I’m not invested enough in UA-cam. 🥴
I, actually, signed that petition because I felt like the Black woman needed to be removed from the cover. Kaepernick* should’ve been the picture. Period! However, I know the beginnings of the American police and its system and that’s where I totally disagreed with her. As problematic as that is for Black women’s safety, the system as a whole doesn’t work for us. Truth be told, Black women being incarcerated has increased. So, yeah it’s a dub for moi. But, all of this went down after? Wowwww!
Side note: I never knew what SJW meant, but I thought to myself it sounds like something wypipo created. And look at that, it is. 😂

I don't know about this drama, but I can say that I appreciate our willingness to engage with your audience in a positive manner even when they disagree. I had an interaction with a popular pro black celebrity about a difference in opinion and it left me feeling torn to shreds to the point where I was unsure if I should continue to to be a fan. I am typically pro black everything, but some of your content has gotten me to think about am I willing to accept that in order to create a just society, I will have to be conscious of not taking on the worse traits of my oppressors and having understanding that they are too subjected to the function of white supremacy. For me, understanding that means that I can't just throw them away or choose not to listen. This did not go over well with the celeb lol. I wasn't blocked, but I got all caps responses. I appreciate the open dialogue you are willing to have and your safe space is definitely felt and appreciated.

The part where that content creator tried to come for your mental health was not cool. I was disgusted at the comments in the livestream. These women claim to care about bw but I guess that only applies to the ones they like and agree with them. And also, they hinted that the divested group (cult)/BW in luxury were being bullied by "SJWs" and "black feminists" but it looks to me like it's the other way around. I'm starting to see who the real bullies are.....

Those accusations continue to fail me. The vitriolic attacks against a group of women with certain views consistently come from women who claim to follow the black hypergamy/femininity etc “movements”. Because of how delusionally petty and sensitive some of the main creators are in said “movements”, they take every reasonable criticism as personal slights and run to their followers to whine and encourage them to the same. For all the talk about male-centered performative femininity, image and promotion, they sure love to partake in unfeminine *behaviors* and pettiness. And they attempt to dress it up as “dark” sides of femininity that one needs to exhibit in order to compete and protect themselves. This is just an attempt to present their personal flaws that aren’t seen as traditionally feminine as virtues that their followers should exhibit when needed.
Anytime someone makes valid points, they see it as a personal slight. They attack the woman’s appearance, call them SJW and feminists as if advocating for women’s rights should be taken as slights, and claim that the women are responsible for the downfall of BC/BW etc. How many BW have been able to get a “HVM” through their tips? How many BW will be able to get one? The math’s not there.

I’m about halfway through your video. One thing I’m thinking about as I listen to you is the community of those people try to “call out” others and that’s why I can’t get with it.
