Body Boarding, Surfing, and skating are all my favorite. 👍
Great breakdown of the basics. This video was a game changer for me when I first got interested in developing my technique and one I've watched back several times for the subtle cues. Thank you Iain!
Stoked to hear it and glad it can help! Keep enjoying the ride Tanner 🙏🏼🤙🏼
Awesome video! Thanks ! I am watching this at the beach with my brand new bogie board 😂😂😂
How did it go I've done it for 10 years I'm 16 now
@@JohnJohnson-hn9fx wow ! that sound fun ! ... my end not very well ... i cant seem to find the right time to "ride the wave" it just keep passing by me :( i know i am doing something wrong but i can't seem to know what it is. and my ribs hurt a lot ! which i like it make me feel like i actually tried! lol some tips for the right time for the wave ? i just don't know much. also do you recomend a suit? i swim shirt less lol and i keep falling out of the board.. might sound like silly questions but for real have no clue lol THANKS A LOT !
@@AIRStudio-AngelRiveros wax the board, it will give good grip, you need to be on the steeper face of the wave but watch out for a bigger set breaking further out, ul get great speed down the steeper face of the wave, carve it up and try staying at a decent height along the wave if it's peeling nicely, if you need more speed drop down the face slightly. Sometimes I like to take a drop off the lip but need to land on the steeper face to get most of the benefit of the drop, then there are other times that stunt gets you punished lol enjoy it and keep at it,. Get time on small waves you'll know what best to do on bigger sets when the time comes
Michael Young THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME to explain me 🤗🤗🤗 I definitely will try it next time ! I CANT WAIT TO TRY IT OUT THANKS SO MUCH !!
Its called a body board and also you need fins and most importantly wax but don't fucking cake it on
So great that you are making these to help us. Thanks!
Great video. I'd like to see one about the actual "catching" of the wave and mistakes beginners make. I spend a majority of my time getting launched down the face of the wave. How do you get the speed to out run the wave?
You just got to paddle and kick much harder. That way it will give you more speed to get down the wave.
Iain Campbell also you got to turn left or right into the barrel also if you don’t allready have fins your should get some I suggest, custom x, vipers, kicks, or ally swim fins
Thanks everyone. I have a good set of Repellor fins that help a lot.
@@Kshdhdmshehyd Why not churchills?? They power me onto every waves...
@@Ozymandias111 fins make a huge difference you get so much speed just paddle and kick hard than turn the board on the barrel it takes some practice
Awesome thank you for the thorough explanation!
I'm new to this game but Since watching and studying this stuff and boogin 2 years now some things start to hit the sweetspot. Using your eyes is most important, timing is next crucial thing. Weight transfer to the sides and upperbody movement up and down and front to back where big gamechangers for me this summer in France when the surf got slightly bigger. Felt the most control was in the rails and a result of things written above were applied in some kind of way. And staccato movement were a no, smooth connections of changes in movement on the board had the best results. Still heaps and heaps to learn (like when to and what and what to not) so need to get better to have even more fun and applie more techniques in small waves. You and a surtain mr. Hardy made my holidays lots of more fun. Thanks lots and lots!
Awesome to hear your story and picking up on all of those small points that make a huge difference. Focusing on timing and head movements are the biggest game changer for sure. Good luck on your journey and welcome to the channel 🤙🏼🤙🏼
@@iaincampbell_ Yo long distance coach! Nice to know, I noticed in smaller surf some people leaned forward and stayed very low while taking of. Where I stayed, France, the waveperiod was short and the opposite of a peeling wave. Very forgiving in taking a left or a right but short rides, helas. So still a bit figuring out what to train in small short waves...
So Good bru, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge to the next gen and us oldies...excellent work champ
Very Informative video. Thanks
Gracias ya era hora de que un grande en este deporte nos enseñara 👏👏👏👏👏
So detailed and helpful. More basics vídeos, please! Thanks!!
Will do.
Great tutorial. Have seen a lot of videos but this helps me for the best to understand the basics.
Appreciate it. 🤙🏼
Great video! Very easy to follow along and I will definatly use your tips. Just what I was looking for.
Glad to hear it and thanks man 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'm about to turn 51 next month and last 2 months have been hitting the beach with my bodyboard after a 30 some odd year break from the beach. These basic tips I will be implementing tomorrow at Newport Beach California..Thanks.
Sounds good Bru. Stoked to hear you getting back into it. If you need any coaching please shout. I’ve just set up some coaching.
Demonstrations are easy to understand. Thanks Iain!
Thank you. 🙏🏼
oooo its so nice to watch videos of people who really know what they are talking about.
Thanks Marc. Appreciate it.
Yep
Love your work mate
Thanks for the help!
Great lesson! Thanks
Wonderful video, for sure one of most useful video to explain the basic positions that I have ever seen, thank you so much
Thank you. Means a lot.
This video helped my progress so much!!!! So helpful thanks mate!!🤙🤙
So stoked to hear that and happy to help. Please share the knowledge 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thanks bro this video helped me so much after a huge injury! Thanks again!
🤙🏼🤙🏼 keep getting stronger bru 💪🏼💪🏼
Awesome vid as always 🤙🏽
Awesome explanation. Keep them coming. Great meeting you in So. Cal during the contest btw. Good luck this season.
Thanks man. Was good to meet you too and appreciate the comment.
I know this is an old vid but it is the only one that really helped me learn thank u 🙏
Happy to hear it. There are many more tutorials available now. Let me know if you want to learn about others 🤙🏼
Thanks Lain for a really clear instructions on body and hand position. Watch the video yesterday and went out twice today in my beach break in Canoa, Ecuador. Getting my body forward was a huge break through and had some of my best turns and was so much faster. Would like to see a good video on paddling going out through the surf, paddling for position and paddling to catch the wave. I’m sure there are differences, but would like to see a video showing these paddling techniques...
Very cool. Glad it’s helping you and you going somewhere. Makes me so happy to hear I can help through these videos.
I like the idea of paddling techniques. Will try and think of how to get that in a video.
Thank you so much! Your video helped me improve my technique and now I'm able to catch many more waves and ride them more effectively than before. Greetings from Waikiki Beach, where I moved just for the sake of the Ocean.
It’s an absolute pleasure. Glad I could help you Stefan 🤙🏼
Really nice vid! Thank you so much!
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Very helpful thanks!
keep these tutorials coming. one for each move

Great video very clear and informative. My daughter and I are just starting out. I will keep your tips in mind. Thank you Ian.
Thanks so much. Good luck to you both. Enjoy the journey. 🙌🏼
Great video thank you so much for the advice I'm gonna get trying this right away should help me on bigger waves
It will help for sure.

No worries. Hope it helps 🤙🏼
hit my first rollo today thanks to you man!
Nice work! More to come…
Great video !
Thanks so much 🤙🏼
Wow fresh video !
Awesome video Iain! good to see video's like this to help people out. Do you dropknee much? I've been try to master dropknee for awhile now but struggle a lot. I'd love to see an in-depth video on how to dropknee as I struggle a lot holding my rail on steep waves as I seem to slide out.
Hey man, unfortunately I have slowed my riding of DK right down to a minimal but maybe I can find some time to make a video on how to keep your rail that may help...
Hey, new to the channel and body boarding, thanks for a great vid of tips. I have a suggestion I'd like to see if you havent covered it.
Pre and post surf body care, ive noticed my back isnt as limber as it once was and my shoulders are getting sore, a basic vid of everyday stretches would be awesome, its not going to suit everyones needs however i think alot would find it helpful. Gotta take care so we can do what we love for longer.
Great suggestion! I have got a group on the BoogieEveryday.com Membership platform where we talk about all of this as well as post clips, tips and a lot more. Please check it out. Will definately help.
Love your content dude. I think it'd be awesome to help with some videos on how to bodyboard in bigger surf.
What would be a way to remain stable and gauge appropriate speed when wanting to catch a bigger wave? And how can you avoid getting gassed when paddling out? What's the safest way to ride a bigger wave securely? How do you maintain stability when dropping in late on a bigger wave? How do you stay safe in reef bottom surf when the surf is pretty heavy?
What do you do when you get caught on the inside and you're gassed, what's the best response to stay safe? What do you do when you find yourself in just inches of water above reef and sea urchins?
All questions I've had in literally those exact moments. I always found a way out and have my own methods, would love to watch a video with your take.
Wow that’s a lot of information. Some of those I can’t answer unfortunately. I would love to but it’s all about what the waves are like, your skill level and experience. If you’re getting gassed in a paddle out you need to find the best way to get out.
There is a lot more questions about that but I can try answer more another time. That’s a lot of information that mostly comes down to experience with what you have asked. My main tip would be “If in doubt, don’t paddle out!”
Thanks Dude!!
Great basics for a guy just starting out (me!). Thanks!!
Stoked to hear it.
really helpful, thank you!
🤙🏼
Great tips Iain. Id like to request a video that covers using the basic steps mentioned towards finding a surf line into timing the point where youd hit the lip.
Future tutorials on forward/reverse spinners, inverts etc.
Thanks for taking time to make these videos.
Sure will get to doing all of those. I will try to make the basic steps into timing but it’s hard to teach that. Easier if you find timing out yourself.
Bro now i see i when today and your video help me enormously thanks i gonna see more videos
Wish I lived near a beach I have to go on vacation to another state in order to go body boarding rip 😭
Dang man. Got to get that ocean fix in.
Thanks really helped😃
🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’ll definitely be trying this out over the summer in the rockaways in queens ny. The waves there are great too because they aren’t intimidatingly high ☺️
Hell yeah. Rip it up bru!! Get out there and enjoy yourself.
Hi just started body boarding last week at Muizenberg! Can’t wait to go back to try your advices 😊
Good luck and let me know how it goes 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks bro. I just subscribed. Thanks for your content bro.
Appreciate it.
great tips nice video thank bro
Thanks for watching 😉
Thanks heaps for the videos mate! Would love to see one for the dropknee 🙏🏻
It’s coming for sure bru. Later in the year. Need to get my knee back in the right form before I can dropknee again.
Thx mate!
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thạnk you very much
Super nice video bru!!! I find it very helpful because sometimes I forget the basics, go onto auto pilot and mes up badly. Like I suggested before, I think the duck dive should be done next, because the duck dive is an essential skill to have even before using these basic tips. You have to reach the back line first before you're able to catch a wave.
That video will be coming soon. Hopefully in the next few months.
Thanks man😁
thanks man
Ciao Iain. Grazie.
Nice
This is a HEAVY content video for bodyboarders out there. Althoguh i would break point 2 3 and 4 into one. and substitute them for mindset. This last one although may not seem import it might the most critical og them 3
Appreciate the comment. Trying to break every aspect of bodyboarding down through my tutorial videos. Hope you enjoy them.
Thank you brother 👍👍
No problem 👍
So good video bro!! Is really helfull. Good luck in this season
Thanks for the tips! I think I've been sitting too far back on my board for years... That explains why I struggle to get my speed up
That would explain it for sure. Let me know if this helps with the drive. Awesome to hear everyone is picking up on small things that can help you! This is why I keep making them. 👌🏼
thank you ver much champ, very nice!!!!!
Appreciate the support.
Amazing video. Can you do the belly spin (360) next, please. It looks so easy but I'm having a hard time doing it.
Will be doing that in the next two months.
Man I really hope 662mob gets your red board back in stock, not only is it a sick colorway I appreciate you making these vids so I want to show my support
Thanks man. Sure next season will have a lot of stock and colours in store. Appreciate the support. 🤙🏼
Great!!!
LEGEND!!!
Solid bro. Could you talk about your weight distribution going into a spin. Cheers!
Will do that when I get around to spins in the next couple weeks.
Great tutorial!! I had no idea how about bodyboarding!!:)
idea about*
Wow well glad you have stubbled across my channel. Much more to check out 😉🤙🏼
Grande Campbell! Cumprimentos from 🇵🇹
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Nice broo
Thanks Ian. Great vid. Do you do anything special with your feet/fins when executing the bottom turn for better control?
Hi Trevor.
Nothing special except when it comes to steep waves. That’s when you would use your knees a bit more. Fins are there to act as rudders and to form the end of the trail your board is making.
Mahalo Lain for the tips
Just come back from Newquay and I caught some awesome waves at Fistral. Just watched your video, and glad I have been doing some of it right. I have definitely caught the bug after a few trips to Cornwall. I would love to go to Boardmasters one day. 🤙🤙😊
So awesome to hear this. Welcome to the channel and hopefully I can get out to the UK and join in on some fun!
Great video again always pick up tips everytime i watch your videos thanks again. Ps do you ever get to England.?
Hi Nigel.
Thanks. And no I have never been and don’t really know whether I would come through there anytime soon. But maybe that needs to change.
Also it would be great to do a video on how to read the wave while you're on it. How far down the wave do you look? How to recognize a good spot on the lip to do an air versus a reverse off the lip for example. Where do you keep your eyes throughout the entire ride. Thank you so much man. These videos are priceless.
Jack I will try and link that all together. Reading a wave is tough but maybe I can take the GoPro into the water and talk you through my thoughts while I’m out there.
That'll be great. Thank you for these videos.
Well said Iain. I've been bodyboarding for over thirty years and I know Iain would have a better idea or clue than me on reading a wave because he is sponsored and been world champ but I've seen tonnes of style and have to say, Iain is one of the smoothest I've ever seen. Does moves in the most critical parts of the wave, especially that backflip on the right during last years Arica comp, as to which I feel he was hard done by - he should've got tens but aye, that's just my thought.
Reading a wave comes with tonnes of experience. Watch stacks of bodyboard vids. Sorry but if you want it quicker, you have to breath, eat, train bodyboard! I miss being at one with mother nature and want a sniper board asap because I miss that feeling. Bro, I was spending so much time watching others but nothing beats getting out there and practice, practice makes perfect, just like novak djokovic and ben simmons (NBA) $233 Mil contract - who said what now, lol.. Peace
You're right. Nothing beats practice. It's hard for guys like me who do not live near the ocean anymore. But thank God for the 2 wave pools they built near by me. NLAND and BSR surf park. It's not cheap but they will see a lot of me this summer lol
i love this video
Thanks 🙏🏼
Which wave do you like best:
Left or right?
And sick vid will definitely head down to beach now and go try those tips
I like lefts best but I’m happy to go right too 😉🙌🏼
Hi iain. Could you do a video on how to choose and use fins properly? Im really struggling with finding a fin that doesnt feel like I've got 2 kettlebells strapped to my ankles. or are my legs just weak?
I could definitely do something like that but just to let you know my opinion is going to be a bit bias as I am working closely with churchills. I think all fins are going to be a bit heavy but it’s all about finding the comfort in the fins and making sure they feel good on your feet.
Thank you for this video We need more educational videos please 🙏
They are coming up soon.
@@iaincampbell_ thank you bro 🙏❤
Going to Hawaii soon. Thank you very much. I don’t feel comfortable surfing and bodyboarding in my opinion is funner.
Agreed. Get on the boogie bru 🤙🏼
Great vid like always bru! I was wondering if you could recommend some good beginner spots in the capetown/strand area
Derdesteen, Melkbos, Strand Pipe and Duckies. All these are brilliant waves to learn on and get started on. There are many more but it depends where you are based. 🤙🏼
It's great to have advice from a rider of your level ! Like me, I think a lot of riders can't perform right or left on all the moves. So if you could explain how to make up for these shortcomings it would be cool. Obviously the reverse air is a maneuver that I would like to learn. Kisses an thank you Iain :D
Hi Victor. All you have to remember is that what ever you did on the left to perform a move needs to be mirrored to perform it on the right. Once you understand these basic moves on the board the rest should work but it takes time. So enjoy the experience and keep trying it.
@@iaincampbell_ Yeah but you know, it's like i'm playing football with my left foot while I'm right-handed. That really depends on the moves, I'll prefer some on the right and others on the left...
You just got to keep trying. It gets more natural the more you do it!
These are really more tips for intermediate or advanced body boarders rather than basics
I disagree. I think the bottom turn as well as weight distribution is the single most basic moves people need to know to start bodyboarding. My humble opinion…
Sick vid Iain, what kind of angle should my arm be at when I'm just paddling around normally?
Maybe a little more than 90. Rather focus on your body being centred over your board. That will help.
@@iaincampbell_ Rad. Thanks heaps man. Can't wait for more content. :)
It helped me alto since i started
Awesome to know. Thanks 🤙🏼
Nice vid bru! Could you do one with proper warm up exercises? Tkx
For sure. It’s all coming soon. 🤙🏼
hey bro, can you make a video of the board itself? Like the different type of boards for different skill level riders, the purpose for those boards and give us your recommendation. I had a cheap board that i used for a few years until it started bubbled on me. i have to get a new board, so i bought it (CustomX board) because of the color and expensive price tag, but i didn't know what i was buying or what that board supposed to build for. if you could make a video explaining different type of boards that would be greatly appreciated.
Can try do that. I have spoken about boards in past video when I show my boards. If there is anything really specific let me know. 🤙🏼
Hi Iain...regarding body position when kicking for a wave without using arm paddling is your hips all the way in the water like at 4:46 in the vid?...how is your site coming along? thanks
Hi. No you need to have your body centred on the board and your weight pushing forward in order to get the nose down and get you onto the waves.
Website should be up and running early next week. Hoping it will all be okay with no issues.
Hey Iain...Great info...if going left, you mention to slide hips to left rail...do you put lots of hip pressure there along with pressure on left elbow?...I dont think I'm too mindful of placing hip pressure...any insight would be appreciated...thanks
So it’s more the position of your legs in the water. The idea is to get the weight on the back corner of the board so by pulling up on the outside rail, digging the elbow in and shifting the weight to your hips and using your fins to hold you in the face, then the bottom turn becomes effective.
@@iaincampbell_
That explanation makes a ton of sense now...will try out...thank you!
No problem at all!
Hey Iain. I’m never quite sure how to position my feet and legs while going across the face of the wave - should I dig the inside fin into the face of the wave? Or let both my legs and fins flap around? Sometimes when they flap around on steep waves I feel it puts my body off balance. That’s my idea for a video! Thanks.
Hi Michael. It all depends on your control of the tail. If it’s a steep wave you’re going to have to use your legs a lot. If it is a flatter wave then the legs are as important.
@@iaincampbell_ thanks - I was just recently recommended to check out your videos by Shambles McGoldrick over here in Ireland.
Epic to hear that. Shambles is a legend! I must get over there sometime and get some waves with you guys. Hopefully soon man.
Sweetest
Lost some balance because of vestibular damage to my left ear at age 69 while trying to master the wavestorm type boards while living in PR 3 years, started falling alot, thinking boogie boarding might be better option to be able to get back in the water???
For sure it is! Better for your balance and possibly safer for you too!
