I am 72 years old and my trainer told me 25 years ago that I was walking incorrectly he gave an example of how I should walk and it is how you have shown us in this video. I will implement it immediately. THANK YOU
Hallo, i am 74 yr old and i am suffering from knee pain i took injection but not stop my pain .i do not want surgey then what can l do. Pls suggest. Thanks.
70 yrs old male, had knee osteoarthritis several years. Yesterday bought a used spin bike thinking I needed to learn how to use bike correctly prior to a badly needed full knee surgery. By luck I then watched a couple other videos of yours and was very inspired especially with your walking video technique. I’m here to announce STARTING tomorrow 8.12.23 I’m committed to next two months excersising with the bike and other techniques to help my situation. Thank you. Robert Pineville LA
I just found this video when my right knee was so painful I could hardly walk. I immediately found your suggestions so helpful that I was able to walk without pain right away. Quite amazing that I had never heard of this before.

I went to a physical therapist and specifically told her I wanted to isolate and strengthen my glutes and she said I need to strengthen my hip flexors and quads. I have done her exercises for a week and a half and am almost crippled again. I’m going to practice this walking and pick back up your knee strengthening muscles again and cancel my scheduled appointments. I know I’ll feel so much better. Thank you Dr David - you really are a lifesaver!
Oh my goodness! I went out on my driveway and practice this walk. You are right. I had to concentrate the whole time. I ended up walking a mile in my drive and had no pain!!! Thank you. I will continue to watch your channel. God bless you.
Thank you! I'm 66 and my only exercise is walking 4 to 5 miles a day. My knee started hurting a few months ago and I kept walking with my knee pain not going away, but watched this video a week ago and I am almost 95% pain free.
Great Job Sabrina , 95% improvements is great news. Here are some more videos that my help you. Have a great day! Knee Pain Exercises, Stretches, Advice, & Tips Playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLJVIPiFvv1mY02hvFckRQO55HfAqDtWrM.html
I am 79 years old & played many sports all my life. Today I am starting to walk with my feet turned out a little. Never knew that that was the correct way to walk. I wish I had seen this video 70 years ago. Thank you for this helpful advice.
I just found this channel and I agree %100 Because I was told 6 years ago I needed hip and knee replacement!! The pain was @ a 10 or 12, I declined the operation and declined the very powerful pain meds. I reduced inflamation#1 naturally #2 started walking barefoot on the beach! At first, it was slow and painful, Now I walk and run miles!! Happy to share a Real story. Keep up your great work.
OMG Your videos are a lifesaver. I have bone on bone Osteoarthritis and have been told that I need two knee replacements. I have watched several of your videos today and have started immediately to implement your procedures. I am trying the walking techniques tomorrow when I take my daily walk. Thank you so much. I have already received relief from 4 of your videos today! Again, thank you soooooo much. (Sue Bradley)
YAYYYYYYY!!!!!! This is fantastic to hear Sue!!!! Thank you for updating us on your success with what you've learned so far!!!! We hope you get to feeling confident in your knees again very fast!!
MAN, this is so great to finally hear someone that understands the mechanics of the human body and explain to us how when the mechanics are not inline, we will not function proper. Just like any athletes that has there mechanics out of wack.
No cartilage in both knees and convinced I was screwed....my physiotherapist gave me hope and your exercises have done even more as I practice it on my daily dog walks....God Bless! And thank-you
Hey BC, We are so sorry to hear about your struggles with your knees. =-( It can be a frustrating experience but you are not alone. We are happy that we were are able to help. Keep us posted on your progress!
I have started going for short walks, so far half a mile. I worked on my glutes for 3 months before being able to enjoy walking again. It’s not a quick fix, but I am so happy with my progress. I am even going upstairs after practicing with my glutes! I use pool noodles in an exercise pool at my senior center. 1 noodle under a knee, push down, using glute, later progressing to a second noodle under foot at the same time. Doing until my glute gets tired. I can feel them working now!
I tried this style of walking today whilst walking my dog... I was so pleased to complete the walk without the pain and discomfort I usually have! THANK YOU Dr. David 👏. From Northamptonshire, England 🇬🇧
I'm 66 yrs old ..and got pain in walking then I learned that you teach the right way in walking..my knee pain become less thanks ..I will practice improving it 😊
This is a game changer!!! I fell in 2014 and haven't been walking properly. I went to physio for 5 yrs and never did the therapist acknowledge my walk being off! Even after I told them! Thank you ❤
I wish I had known this months earlier. I was healing from a broken ankle and I strained my opposite knee badly during my recovery by limping around. Even though I was walking again, my opposite knee made me miserable. As soon as I changed my foot position and started deliberately exercising my butt, I recovered rapidly. Thank you for giving me comfortable mobility again.
Thank you for your generosity. Im an AM Med and I taught my Patients with knee problem this way of walking. It was tremendously helpful! Most of them stopped having knee pain! Thank you! Thank you! God Bless you always❤️🙏🇵🇭your follower from the Philippines.
Hey Elizabeth! We are so happy to hear that you and your patients were able to benefit from our recommended way of walking! We really appreciate your kind words and support!
So glad my husband found your videos... I've been suffering bad knee pain following bursitis and the exercises I was given by the doctor were ones that you advise against! I knew they were causing more problems and swelling and I felt guilty that I stopped doing them. I'm following your advice now and going to work on building the glutes to try to avoid surgery. Everything you have explained makes so much more sense, I was feeling quite depressed but now I hope it will work for me!
Walking is my key form of exercise. I tried this for the first time today and saw immediate improvement. Will keep incorporating this into my morning walks. Thank you!
I’m 76 years old, live in Mexico, was a lifelong athlete and very active up until a month ago after slipping and falling hard, had femur prosthetic surgery and was ordered bed rest for three weeks. I found that when at last was given the green light to start walking again, my knees were locked and hurting, especially the right. Before the accident I would have a few aches and pains, but livable. This video is interesting and helpful. I hope to improve the functionality of my knees without having to resort to more surgery. While there are physical therapists here, it’s complicated.
I am 45 and I have been walking WRONG!!! all my life. I walk with my feet very straight with one foot in front of the other. I have practiced this walk since I was a teenager. Training myself to walk like a model. Boy was I wrong. 10 years ago i tore my right leg meniscus. Did not have surgery. Just therapy and water aerobics. It worked then. But now, in the last 2 years I've been having soreness and stiffness in my knee. I'm also brow legged in my right leg. Now i have to wear my knee brace and walk slowly. Thanks to your channel i now know how to walk correctly and climb stairs with out pain. Im also doing the glute exercises and stretching. I'm only a few days in but im hoping to improve. Thank you so much. Your information is very helpful.
I'm 72. You just taught me how to go downstairs without right side inner knee pain from arthritis and now you have taught me how to walk. I liked my "feet straight" style and thought the police walked all funny with their feet pointed out. Now, I'm learning to do the same. It's helping my knees and I sincerely hope it will help reduce my right side SI joint pain as well (I'm already doing your recommended exercises for this). I love to walk for miles but hoo boy! the pain when I stop. I'll report back on any improvement. Thank you so much for these very helpful videos.
I was in marching band in high school so the “glide” with one foot straight in front of the other was drilled into me. I’ve walked like that since. So now at nearly 57 I’m retraining myself to walk Correctly! I came to this video from the hip bursitis video. Thank you! 🙏🏻
I did walked the wrong way all the time, tried to walk this way just inside the house and feels better already. Will go for a walk the proper way tomorrow, thank you Doctor.
You are giving great information,I read a story of an Orthopedic surgeon that quit. His lucrative job is to teach people to simply exercise these muscles instead of replacing joints.!!
This video has come like a godsend, since I have painful knees that crackle while climbing stairs and hurt something awful. . I am practising this method since past one month and now I'm able to walk 5 to 6 km without getting pain in my knees. It really helps, thank you.
WOOOHOOOO!!!!!! This is fantastic to hear @vvb4740!!!! Thank you for updating us on your success!!!! We're so glad you're able to walk without knee pain!!!
I was taught in an anatomy/physiology class that the proper way to walk was with your feet straight ahead. And looking down at the knee, it should float over somewhere between your second and third toes. This was taught to me by a person with a Ph.D. in exercise physiology, who was also an Olympic Swim Team Coach for 20 years. I was hit head on by a drunk driver, and had no broken bones, but my knees are really painful now. I went to an ortho, who said I needed total knee replacement in both knees. He refused to do it, saying I was "too young" at the time; said I'd just need another in 10 years. He told me to not do ANY exercises, except on a bike or in a pool. That said, what you said here does make sense. But nagging in the back of my mind is that ortho telling me basically not to do any exercises at all. I'm old, and my body is literally turning to mush. I think I'll try the technique you mentioned here, and the one where you grip with your toes. I'm on the tail end of the 60's, and too old to just sit around and ache!! Wish me luck!! Thanks!
Hey I'm 64 and have had knee and back issues for years. I've had some achey knees lately that's how I found this site. I've been walking wrong and doing stairs incorrectly forever but I'm going to give this kids ideas a try and I'll lyk. Oh by the way I do foraging of medicinal mushrooms in and around the adirondacks and often pack out 40-60 pound packs on my hikes. You're never to old.
Thank you for all the valuable information in your videos. I’m 70 years old and have had knee problems for at least 20 years. I refuse to get knee replacements. So I’m very thankful everything I’ve tried that you have taught me works extremely good. My knee pain is definitely getting less. I’ve only been following you for two weeks, so maybe I’ll heal my body and walk again without pain. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! When I get to Texas again I’m going to look you up and hopefully make an appointment with you. 😊
Has taken a lot of practice to get this but today I managed to walk all the way round the village for the first time since my knee flare up - the glutes just started to kick in! Thank you so much.
I have been intentionally training glute contraction while walking for about 6 months. It really worked! My bilateral osteoarthritic knees don't hurt anymore while i focused to walk correctly! Tqvm for correcting my faulty walking that has lasted 69 years! ❤
Finally! Thank you. For years, I have been telling my ortho, physical therapist and chiro that I know I’m not walking correctly. Not one of these professionals had a solution for me. They just didn’t know. This is brilliant. It works.
I've actually been aware since I was a child that my knees and toes point inward while I walk, and I remember a doctor checking my stride to make sure there was nothing else wrong and him basically saying it was fine and nothing to worry about. I can't believe I'm 37 and finally learning that I CAN CHANGE the way I walk. I hope this makes a difference with the clicking knee I've been experiencing since I was 11 years old, since it's gotten painful ever since I was pregnant 3 years ago. Thank you for sharing this proper walking technique! It's amazing what we can go through life never realizing what we can change about ourselves.
I am a EMT in the UK and I have real pain in my knees Double ACL injury, one knee has sorted it’s self the other I have a pain and burning sensation to the left of the knee. Walking is so painful, and a ‘pain’ in my daily job. I ‘stumbled’ across your U Tube offerings….. A revaluation! I am doing another 12 hours today and I guess I will have a funny look on my face when I tighten my Backside muscles and look like a duck with my feet! You know we have to up and down stairs with a patient in Carry Chairs and instinctively go down stairs feet out…. Superb clips! I am looking forward to NOT taking pain killers to get me through the day. Interesting that my left knee when weight bearing starts to give a slight burning sensation I kinda know what it is, but it is a real pain in more ways than one.! Thanks again!
Amazing. I followed your hip bursitis video, and on to this one. I just practised your walking instruction and wow, I can feel relief on my outside knee pain instantly. Astounded to learn I've been walking wrong all my life. Thank you
Thank you so much! I am 27 year lady after my first delivery.I have arthritis and oa problem .and now doc will told me you have bone on bone !you need to knee replacement ! I was shocked ! I mean is my age for knee replacement? But today I am watching your video it's so helpful walk for me ! Really ,heartly thank you so much .
Even when I broke my knee, years ago, the surgeon showed me to increase the strength of the quad. Never said anything about walking, or how to do it. Thank you for this. I walk indoors.
I have been in agony for a few weeks now, I was told by the physiotherapist to excersise and take plenty of pain relief, but after watching your advice I have been practising how to walk correctly and wow what a difference it has made, thank you so much for your help
I've started this today dedicating 20 minutes to proper walking to heal my knees. I didn't know this and was actually walking the opposite. I'll try to write back next week and let you all know how it is going for me. Thank you!
I am a Ex British Army Soldier, I picked up a Back Injury on the Drill Square on the start of week three of Basic Training as a Grenadier Guardsman. I Slipped discs, put a curve in my spine and did something to my hips. I came close to being discharged at the time, but with Rehabilitation I was able to rejoin mainstream training. A few years later I injured my left knee of a Forced March, and a few days later I injured my right knee. This time I was given a Downgraded to P7 which meant I was no longer fit to server as I joined up. It meant that I couldn’t get promoted as I couldn’t do the physical side of promotional courses. I used to get pretty intense pain in my shins when Marching at a very fast pace. This is due to the fact that I have always walked with my feet facing dead straight, and whilst Marching I would splay my feet to the side. Since leaving the British Army I have been Diagnosed with Axial Spondylitis, which stopped me walking for a short while, and only with Crutches. I was told about nine years ago that I would be looking at life in a wheel chair if they could get me moving. They’re last attempt was to try Bio mechanical Clinic, and they at giving my an orthotics to wear in my shoe, Having had something similar in the past given to my by Physiotherapists that were looking after me, which had aggravated my knees instead of helping, so I stopped using them. This time we started small and built up over a couple of months. In the last few years I have once again started to get knee pain when wearing them. I also have hip pain which is what stopped me from walking. I had my first Steroid injection in to my right knee, which worked for about two months. Currently I am getting both hip and knee pain, and I have another eight to nine months to my appointment time with Rheumatology, So I think I’ll have a go at trying your walking technique to see if it helps me out.
@@ohsnapitseric Hi, I am back to being almost pain free again. I was able to restart running fairly after many years of not thinking I was not able to, going by my lack of progress whilst in the Army. I am currently not running as I am having to do some strengthening exercise, to build up weak leg muscles that have brought back the dreaded knee pain once more, which is why I am almost pain free. Just get the odd twinge now and then. As 5/6 weeks ago I injured my knee running a 5K Parkrun. So I am not going to be running till New Years Day. So I have plenty of time to build up the weak muscle's. I have also transitioned over to Bearfoot shoes, my thoughts behind it was if they don't work out for me as everyday shoe a I will simple wear them in my Kayak in the warmer months. They have also helped, I was worried at first due to the possibility of having hip pain coming back. I had a day or two with hip pain when I had been over doing the Running and Walking. So eased back and they settled down once more. The Strengthening exercise have also helped improve my flexibility too, still not as flexible as I once was, but even small improvements are welcome and hopefully will continue to improve over time, so it is win win at the minute.
Thank you for sharing your experience in detail. I’m 65 years old from India and diagnosed with osteoarthritis and meniscus tear recently. Your detailed account helps me to figure out what I should avoid.
@@priyamvadar3583 Hopefully you’ll find that gentle exercises that don’t aggravate your tear and Arthritis will greatly help. I completed my first post injury run at the weekend. I just wanted to test my knee. It was pain free. I took it nice and slow. I will continue to do strengthening exercises, as my left knee was not pain free, it was quite low on a pain score. So I didn’t run on the hill part of the run, just to protect my knee. It will be a while before I am running regularly, just to save me from over doing it. Hope that you Meniscus heals soon and that you get relief from your Arthritis as it not an easy condition to live with.
Brilliant! This is the first exercise regime that has actually improved my severe knee pain after 3 months of trying different techniques and medication. I can not thank you enough
@@epmanualphysicaltherapywhat about running? Is there a video to explain how to run properly? Also, can you walk forever with this pattern? Will it cause any issues in the long term?
😦 What ?! I am just so SHOCKED that my orthopedist nor physical therapist ever shared this with me. In nearly the last two years since an MRI revealed meniscus fraying, I've only been told to strengthen my quads. I walk dogs about 2+ miles each day, and I am nearly at the point of not being able to push through. I will certainly be learning how to do this new way of walking. Thank Y💜U for this information.
Yes this is not common knowledge for orthopedists or physical therapists…they would not know about this. Start using those glutes!!! Best of luck to you!!
Ty! When I tell my regular dr about knee pain they send me to an ortho, who says yeah that will give you problems one day, then gives me a generic handout on patella femoral pain and sends me on my way. I have spent years with knee pain and swelling. Health care is broken. So happy to have vids like this!
Thank you! You are so clear and specific in your comments and directions. It just makes sense that all these load bearing muscles must be exercised and strengthened, yet it has never occurred to me. My knee crackles too much coming down stairs but the outward turn works fine going upstairs. I'm hoping strengthening and increasing control of my glutes will help all around. Great podcast!
Hey Lois! Wooohoooo!!! We’re so happy this worked for you!!! Yes you should do even better once you get even stronger in the glute muscles. Going down stairs is usually more challenging than going up stairs.
This advice is wonderful; practical amd makes so much sense. Distributing the load to support the knees which in essence is a loading dock, is ironic but again, it all makes sense. I'm so up for the exercises and the need to rely on the gluts. I am however, caught in a quandary and would appreciate your advice. I have a damaged coccyx; sitting or standing for long periods is painful. I tried the glut exercises from your other video and as I suspected, my coccyx is very unhappy as squeezing my gluts aggregates it and I'm then rendered helpless and have to rest on my stomach to relieve the pain. Not sure if there is another exercise you can suggest to help me strengthen my chances of reducing my knee pains without aggregating my coccyx in doing so!
I have wondered for years if I was walking wrong. Starting about 10 years ago I have been having knee problems that have grown increasingly more painful. In fact walking up and down stairs is almost impossible. Yesterday I viewed your stair climbing technique and was heartened to find that it made an immediate difference. Today I came across your walking technique and I am practising it and believe it will also make a big difference. A huge thank you for this information ! I am 75 and would like to skip knee replacement if possible!
Oh, wow, I am going over to the stair climbing technique right away. I see a flight of stairs and I want to cry!!! I hope these exercises and techniques help you avoid replacement and all that comes with that. I also take MSM and collegen poweder in my smoothies which has helped strengthen tissues, skin, hair, nails and muscles. You might want to check it out. I'm pulling for you!!! 💯💕
Hi my name is Faye I just tuned in to your channel and thank you so much I'm 84 years old and have a hip problem on my left side and by squeezing my glutes just in bed today I feel a little bit better and I'm going to continue on thank you for your video I'll catch up with you again
I had a really bad ankle sprain and my knee has not been the same since. It’s super loose when bending internally. I’ve been scouring UA-cam for different exercises than my physiotherapists recommendation and I like yours the most. Turning my toes out has made a huge difference in activating my glutes. I hope to report back in a few months that I’m pain free. Thanks for all this free amazing content.
I’m so grateful to have found this video. I have had knee pain for a long time and nothing seemed to help. I watched this video yesterday and today I feel a great deal of relief. Thank you so much!
I tried your method today on my regular 4 mile walk. AMAZING. It took me a bit longer than my usual 1 hour, but I had no pain during or after my beloved walk. Thank you sooo much.
Developed pain in hip after a walk/run. Searched the internet but nothing helped until I tried the glute squeeze. After just 10 I felt immediate relief! Definitely going to keep doing them and the other 2 in video and also walk correctly! Thank you
This was such important information. I was naturally turning my knee and foot out going upstairs, because it feels better on my arthritic knee with a torn meniscus and floating piece of cartilage. Such clarity with your videos!
Hey Cindy! Glad to hear that you have already been doing the walking! Make sure you are using your glutes to work on any muscle imbalances that might be contributing to your knee pain! Keep up the good work!
This is amazing. I’m heading out for my morning walk and will give this a try. For the first time in months, I’m not dreading the walk. Thank you so much!!!
I am 77 years old and have been told to have both knees replaced but after watching your video I am encouraged to try your walking exercise. You explained the technique very well for a senior such as myself to thoroughly understand and here I go! Thank you!
You’re welcome MaryJoanne!! Please let us know how this goes for you!!! Best of luck in avoiding or at least delaying having a replacement so you can get stronger in preparation for surgery.
Thanks a ton doc! Been suffering from chondromalacia patella for the past 3 months, which started from playing badminton on a hard surface. I've been binging on your knee videos and I feel I've learned the basic mechanics of the knee and the adjacent joints and how they all should be interacting. I've realised that my walk tech is bad too and I've been improving it for a week and I'm seeing significant change. Glute muscles are the king man! Appreciate your efforts. Love all the way from India!
I walked for 1 year and now I have a knee problem. It started out as an IT band. It left that area and went to my knee. I am currently in PT and after some exercise, instruction She asked me to walk. Said I was walking all wrong. I have been watching your videos and I 100% agree to this point in time. I feel like I'm getting better at a snail's pace. I'm trying not to lose hope. Watching your videos has helped with that. Thank you
Thank you!! I have a lot of knee pain for years. (I’m 70 years old and a retired RN!) Why didn’t I know better! I had a total right knee replacement and I’m trying to avoid surgery on the left. Something so simple yet beyond our everyday consciousness. I recently discovered yoga toes, a silicone based toe separator. I put hem on and suddenly I could walk with less pain and balance on my left leg! Now with your instructions I really think I can finally get active again and get out of my chair. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge on UA-cam. I have subscribed and will follow with enthusiasm. Bless you Sir! Claudia
OMG I’ve always thought my husband was walking incorrectly since his feet turn outwards and all the time it’s been me doing it wrong 😅. No wonder my knee hurts! He is having hip pain now, though, so I’ll look to see what you’ve had to say about that. Thanks! Here I go to practice and change what I’ve been doing wrong for 73 years 😬
Thank you, thank you!!!! I watched this video and some of your other ones on strengthening the glutes to alleviate muscle imbalance and knee pain. I've been doing the exercises and walking with the technique you have taught and my knee pain is 95 % better in one week!
Glad I found this video. Been having knee pain & I'm only in my 30's. I tried all the techniques you mentioned & I feel a difference. Now I'll be more conscious about how I walk, keeping my glutes tight & not putting tension on my quads.
I'm 73, some weeks ago had an accident and tore my meniscus - did the same a few years ago , so I knew what had happened - except this feels a bit more severe. No way will I have surgery, I have done my research and know that out of all the online therapists I've seen you absolutely know your stuff! If I lived anywhere close I'd have no hesitation in attending your clinic. Seven weeks in and I can walk a few yards using a stick, but only because I'm doing exactly what you describe in this clip - before even a few steps caused too much pain. I know that in time I'll be fully mobile - meanwhile I'll continue with the tailgate swings and ' Charlie Chaplin' walk ! Thank you so much for your expertise.
I finished physical therapy in January 2024. Your videos confirm the exercises i was taught to do. I'm encouraged with your help. My left knee is shot so to speak. Thanks for your teaching in your videos.
I’m still working on learning this new way. 18 years ago I had a knee replacement in my 40s and I sure don’t want another one. This way of walking gives me instant knee pain relief, so I’ll keep working on mastering it. I just finished your 28 day back exercise program for severe stenosis and think I will be able to avoid back surgery. It was very helpful now that my abs and glutes are much stronger. Thanks so much Dr. David. God bless you!!
Muscle Imbalance. Omg that makes so much sense ! So grateful I found this video. Love that you call it butt muscle instead of glute especially love how you personally demonstrated right from wrong and reassuring us of what habits (lack of focus-attention) occur when walking with others Focus on changing the technique is key for me. Thank you so much for your dedication to helping all of us watching !
Let me tell you, I’m 58, and I have walked naturally with my feet slightly outwards all my life and I never had knee problems… and I got a very good butt. There has to be a correlation. This is amazing! I was looking at this video for my son he’s 30 and has had both knees operated on teared ligaments a couple years apart each. He walks with his feet pointing straight forward…and his butt is kind of small. There has to be a correlation! This is going to be so helpful! So useful for him! Why are other doctors not teaching this? I’m always looking out for videos for him. Thank you so much Doctor, great video!
I did the ‘two hands manipulating the knee’ exercise from another video and it worked. No more pain. Thank you. I am very grateful as I thought I was heading for a knee replacement. Thank you so much. Best wishes. ☘️🌝🌲
Your videos are SO helpful! You are heaven sent! Thank you for all you do!!!! I am 48 and have had several stupid twisting falls and bicycle crashes. You just showed me that I've been walking wrong. I'm going to be all about my glutes! We have a lot of stairs in our house at least upstairs and then down to the basement and I transverse them several times a day and I just watched your climbing stairs video and it's going to change my life thank you so much!!!!!
Hey Amanda! You're welcome! We're so glad you found our videos and are already benefiting from them! Be sure to check out our playlists to learn more about specific problems you might have.
Hey TiffiT. this isn't common knowledge and Dr. David is exceptional at breaking down complicated ideas into simple terms. We're glad that you got it now!!!
Wow, what a wake up call! I actually tried the technique. What a miracle! I started straightening my right foot because I thought it should be. I walk 3 to 4 miles 4 times a week Now that right knee is giving me more pain than I can take at times. I will follow through using the technique and report back soon. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for your advice, I've been doing my walking like daily, and suddenly my developed this stiffness and pain. I really didnt take it seriouly nd kept doing my walks. Until I couldnt bend my knees. I googled and came across your videos. I straight away put it into practice in my bedroom. Realigning my knee nd practicing the walk. When I woke up in the morning, my knees had improved greatly, I could bend it and the pain had diminised. Thank you so much and God bless you 🙏
You are very welcome Bulou! We are so happy to hear that our walking advice was able to help improve your knee bending and pain! Keep up the good work and make sure this becomes a normal way of walking! God bless you as well!
OMG you are so right!!! I've had knee pain for over 30 years and have had to learn the hard way by trial and error. No medics wanted me to know that there were natural cures out there. I had to listen to my body and try to heal myself as I refused knee surgery. And everything I learnt about myself over the years you've confirmed in your videos. I'm so happy because now I know for sure I'm not imagining it. When I told ppl you don't always need surgery you can help to heal yourself and pointed out certain things they thought I was crazy and said only surgery can help as doctors had brainwashed them into believing that. So thanks again for making these videos and I'm living testament as I refused surgery all those years ago and I'm medication/painfree by trying to keep my joints/muscles as healthy as possible.
We’re so happy you found our channel April!!! It is very possible to heal without surgery in soooo many cases!!! It’s also possible to thrive again without having to rely on pain medications and injections. Your body will heal if there is enough tissue left and you can put it in the right healing environment. Cheers to great health!!!
Thank you for this! I injured my knee recently (pes anserine bursitis or some menicus misalignment) and it really scared me. As a dancer, I naturally walk in "turnout" but I assumed that was a bad position that made the muscles on the outside of my legs weaker. Now through your videos, I'm realising that a little turnout (not excessive ballet turnout) is correct. It takes away the pain of walking up stairs and I'm not fighting to keep my toes pointed straight ahead when I walk. THANK YOU!
I hurt my knee on April 10, 2023. It was so painful such that I could not put any weight on my right knee. I think it was Pes Anserine Bursitis. Did you by any chance have that pain? I could bend my knee with no problem. It was just putting weight on my leg that was the problem.
I was going to watch your video for glute exercises (fire hydrant, etc) again, but I saw this first. I REALLY needed it! I am a healthy 71 y.o., but injured left meniscus recently. It has greatly improved, but I've been walking wrong!!! Thank you so much.
It's late at night and I've just read about your advice on using your glutes. I'm 74 and have had pain in my left knee for years (old sports injury and several knee twist in the last 10 yrs and also suffer from peripheral nerve damage in both feet). While sitting down I have been flexing my glutes left and right alternatively with feet pointing outwards for about 20 minutes or so, wow, unbelieveably my knee pain has gone. I'll do a test walk tomorrow to confirm this walk style really works, many thanks Doc.
I didn’t realize how essential using my glutes can be to helping me with knee pain. I used your tips on my morning walk with my dog in Italy today and I know it’s going to help me. Thank you again!
I never knew I had been walking wrong all my life. Although it look little awkward to start walking like that but with time I can make this look normal. Thanks for this information.
Hey Rain Drops! That's what everyone says when they learn how to walk this way. But it usually only takes a couple of days doing this to make it feel and look normal. No one should be able to tell that you're using your butt muscles while walking once you make it more casual. You're welcome!!!
Thank you Doctor for your help with the knee pain.? I don't have any leg problems. All the people who have are very lucky to have a great phyteropist. He is very honest and has no one suffering with the knees All the people are cured. They can walk away from the pain. They will all be dancing and cycling.. Sport etc I have not got any response yet about the spur on my left heel?? Looking forward to hearing back from you with the good news that my spur will disappear soon and the sooner the better for me. I am very thankful to you Doctor. Breege Divilly Reply please 🇮🇪 THANKING you
i'm watching this video a year after you posted - i have absolutely been walking improperly - thank you so much for teaching me this technique - it immediately helped me!
Thank so much for this video. I'm a runner and i have been confused about my left knee pain when walking. I can ran for 3 hours without a pain in my knee, no pain after run at all, no pain at nigh, but if i walked next day as my recovery I couldn't do 5km without a pain and swollen knee. Now it's seems to bee getting much better. Thank you so much! 😉😊

Oh I’m starting this technique as soon as I get home tonight. I have been miserable walking lately. I have flat over pronating feet as well unfortunately. Hopefully this technique and shoe insoles I just bought will help reduce the pain significantly over time. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to make these videos that educate us.
Fascinating! This feels almost impossible to do. I find myself slowly marching around the living room like a confused robot. Firing my glutes is such a foreign concept to me, but your explanation makes a ton of sense so I'm going to keep trying. 8 years ago I could run a half marathon even though I've had a fully torn ACL from many years previous. Nowadays I can't get out of a chair and walk outside without both knees screaming in pain. Thank you for this video and I will be watching many more of them!
I have tried to send a gift amt., but I am not able to get it through for some reason. I’ve had this issue the last 2 times I’ve tried to send an appreciation amt. I have successfully sent one in the past to another therapist. ??
This video is just packed with the most useful information! Following your advice I decided to spend three weeks developing glutes before walking. And the glutes were weak. I did this plus other knee exercises from your videos and the arthritic knee pain was gone if I kept doing exercises. But, to my surprise, not only was my knee ok but my hips felt “liberated” (the best way I can think of describing them) after learning how to walk like a penguin. Thank you so much for all of your valuable help!
Hey @1shimashima! Thank you so much for sharing your experience about putting the exercises in our channel to use and that you have found some success in doing them! Comments like this make our day! 😄 We hope to hear more about your progress in the near future, thank you for being part of our community! 🙌
Wow!! 38 yrs of fitness I have never known this!! Recently added a weighted vest to my walking and my knees have majorly flared up! Thank you so so much!! Who knew at 58 I would learn how to walk. 😂
Oh wow!! I had knee replacement surgery last August and thought I had to keep my feet pointed forward or I would wear out the new knee on one side. Unfortunately my other knee needs replaced and although the replaced knee feels much better, the other knee is really bad. Walking, going up & down steps has been a nightmare. I use crutches to walk. I don’t use them in the normal way, just for support. As soon as I pointed my toes and knees outwards and squeezed my glutes, it was like the heavens opened! Omg, it feels so much easier! Thank you!!!
Excellent series on dealing with knee pain. Very clear description. Helped me get the focus back on doing something positive to improve the situation, and not just accept reduced mobility and pain. Good on you 👍
Thank you so very much for this video. Your explanation is crystal clear. It has helped me realise how foolish I have been in walking with an effort to keep my feet parallel to each other. By practicing your technique I am able to feel the relief of stress on my knees. You saved me the trouble of visiting an orthopedic. At 69 I was paranoid thinking of what my doc would advise. Thank you over and over again.
WOOOHOOOO!!!! It is great to hear that you're feeling relief of the stress on your knees Usha Shekhar!!! We're so happy you were able to skip seeing the orthopedic since you got relief here!!!
Dr. David, Thank you sooooooo much for your expertise and sincerity to help people like me who are suffering menicus and orthroarthritis. your videos have given me a lot hope that my knee will getting normal functions without surgery. Anyway, surgery is not my choice for my Injured Knee. I will keep practicing your techniques everday and keep you posted. God bless you and your families:-)!
I'm 51 and far too young to have knee pain 🙂. I have a desk bound job, which means I sit A LOT! Watched your knee bursitis video (for my pes anserine bursitis) and also this video and realised I totally can't get my glutes to 'switch on' ! This is going to take some work and concentration and intention to correct. Even though I couldn't yet do all these 100% , just this practice has given me some relief already. Thank you so much. I am so grateful.
Tried this at work and couldn’t believe the results my knee pain lessened considerably!!! Thank you so much your videos are spot on and common sense too , you very made such a difference in my life just following your example !

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy I have had a knee fracture. Been going to therapy and building up quad muscles and other various exercises. Walking up and down steps is painful. Will certainly try this technique with walking. Awaiting good results! Thanks for this!
I have just tried this. To my surprise, I find it easy on the left side but hard on the right. I have knee and ankle issues in my right leg.... Will definitely add this to my physio routine! Thanks for these videos.
I have been using your techniques walking up the steps, what a difference, I have a bad habit of leaning forward when walking or climbing steps but when I did the feet outwards and stand up right the pain is almost nonexistanct thank you.
I recently started walking again. I'm up to an hour a day. I have not been doing it right. Thank God I found you! I'm definitely taking your advice. It isn't hard, but one has to know this.
I’m struggling with bad knees due to arthritis and 44 years of work/abuse. I’m 61 and have knee replacement scheduled. I’m going to try this as I’ve been trying different walking gates with no improvement. I’m really enjoying your videos!
Hi @jhask64, we are so sorry that you are suffering with knee arthritis 😔 Below will be a few links for you that we feel can help! Strengthening your glutes as well as abs will help alleviate the pain from your knees as it balances the muscle group out instead of your quad muscles over dominating and adding too much pressure on your knees: “Top 5 Glute Muscle Exercises For Knee Pain” ua-cam.com/video/NXdCjT2QtJA/v-deo.html “Top 6 Standing Glute Exercises To Help Knee Pain” ua-cam.com/video/jD7IRBfJ-mM/v-deo.html “3 Big Reasons Your Glute Muscles Won’t Work Well For You” ua-cam.com/video/TamXorqxCAk/v-deo.html Tailgate swings will be a great exercise to implement daily, several times a day: “Tailgate Swings” ua-cam.com/users/livelYYhH62Phaw?si=46lXOkDfDrbW6wnq&t=1360 “Knee Arthritis Help” ua-cam.com/play/PLJVIPiFvv1maa9YF-WmKLF7oI4VoczH8i.html Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. We hope this helps! Please keep us posted on your progress 🧡

If he /she can get it right with their knees then I want to get exercises for walking with a damaged hip.
Thank you ❤
You’re welcome Leslie!!! We’re so glad to hear that you will fix your walking now!!!!
No one has ever talked about this..the use of glute muscles..brilliant
We're glad you're getting it here Priscilla!
And I'm having hop pain and a knee. I can do glutes exercise??
Thank you!
Yayyy!!! This is great to hear Neil!! Cheers to great knee health!!

Are you well now.I am 48 and I have the same problems
Between making sure that I am walking properly and going up and down stairs correctly my knee pain has been greatly reduced. Thank you so much!
Thank you! 🙏🏻
I, too, am a former HS and College Marching Band and Kickline student. It’s difficult to break that stride from 40+ years ago! Bring on ths challenge!
I did walked the wrong way all the time, tried to walk this way just inside the house and feels better already. Will go for a walk the proper way tomorrow, thank you Doctor.
We're glad to hear that it's already helping Helen! Thanks for letting us know :-)
You are giving great information,I read a story of an Orthopedic surgeon that quit.

Thank you for updating us on your success!!!!
We're so glad you're able to walk without knee pain!!!
Thank you! Wow I’ve been in pain for 10 years. And no doctor or therapist has taught me this information! You are the greatest!
Thanks!
Any improvement?

I have been intentionally training glute contraction while walking for about 6 months. It really worked! My bilateral osteoarthritic knees don't hurt anymore while i focused to walk correctly!

Finally!
At 67 have been walking wrong thank you dr for your free consultation 🙏
Any updates?
@@ohsnapitseric Hi,
I am back to being almost pain free again.

Thank you
Oh my gosh!! I’ve been walking wrong for 70 years 😮~ Thank you for this❤️
Hey Patricia! You're very welcome!
Brilliant! This is the first exercise regime that has actually improved my severe knee pain after 3 months of trying different techniques and medication. I can not thank you enough
YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!
This is fantastic to hear James!!!!
Thank you for updating us on your success!!!!
@@epmanualphysicaltherapywhat about running? Is there a video to explain how to run properly? Also, can you walk forever with this pattern? Will it cause any issues in the long term?
😦
What ?!
It just makes sense that all these load bearing muscles must be exercised and strengthened, yet
it has never occurred to me. My knee crackles too much coming down stairs but the outward turn works fine going upstairs. I'm hoping strengthening and increasing control of
my glutes will help all around. Great podcast!
Hey Lois! Wooohoooo!!! We’re so happy this worked for you!!! Yes you should do even better once you get even stronger in the glute muscles. Going down stairs is usually more challenging than going up stairs.
⁰

How are you doing now? I broke my ankle and now knee has issues
I’m so grateful to have found this video. I have had knee pain for a long time and nothing seemed to help. I watched this video yesterday and today I feel a great deal of relief. Thank you so much!
Hey Anne, we're so happy you've had relief!!! You're welcome!!

Claudia
Back walk is that ok
Hey Chris! Glad to hear it! Keep working on walking well and using those glutes!
Hello sir

My knee pains me so much that I can’t bend it with out pain ,further to which , I can’t stoop down So am happy to see this video
I did the ‘two hands manipulating the knee’ exercise from another video and it worked. No more pain.
Thank you. I am very grateful as I thought I was heading for a knee replacement. Thank you so much.

Hey there, thank you for the kind words! We look forward to your update!
Cheers to great health!!!
same here, april!...
Could you pls let me know the exercises you did
Thank you for this!
This is great news Julia!!! We’re so happy to hear you can tell this is going to help you!
You’re welcome!!!

Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity.
