RODE you should thank this guy, he is a great guy! I bought RODE Video mic pro from his recommendation! that was 3 years a go i think

azizul zulzaha def a great video that deserves some praise. during the side by side, for audio quality, I preferred the bigger mic on the left. if quality isn't an issue, then I would say get the micro.
BUT! I would not have been able to make this decision without this great, side-by-side comparison!

The Micro is definitely better with side rejection and rear rejection but the sound quality is much richer on the Rode Go microphone. I am listening with Studio Reference Monitor speakers and the Go sounds much better

Spot on info, I'm a totally amateur youtuber with ambitions of upping my game and one of the things that's really really bothering me is sound quality especially since most of my vids are outside.
My kit needs to be small, compact and easily rechargeable due to the nature of the adventures I embark upon.
This little mic will be perfect for me but I was afraid the sound quality would be bobbins, we'll all those worries have been put to bed now and I'm gonna go strait from this video and order myself one.
    Thank you very much ^_^

@blunty , I've watched 4 separate explanations of these mics, and you've surpassed them all with your cunning wit and clear approach. Thank you for FULLY explaining the pros and cons with specific tests given on the video! Now I know which mic I'll be choosing. #armPump

As someone starting out in the video production world (just out of college with a general visual media degree), I think that the micro does indeed have better off axis noise reduction than the Go, but for some reason I do like the Go audio better. The micro just has a sort of slightly muffled quality to it, not sure if it's just to my ear or not.

I prefer the audio from the Go. When you pronounce the letter S whilst using the Me, it sounds a little off, like it's cutting out too much of the higher frequencies. That said, it didn't stand out to me when I watched your videos from Detroit, so it's probably only because I'm comparing the two mics. I do really like both of the designs of the Me/Micro, and they are obviously great little microphones to have when traveling and filming on a small scale.

On the side-by-side, the first mic is slightly crisper, but the splosives are more noticeable. Really liking the smooth, even sound of that newer mic along with the monitor jack on the back.

Thanks was looking for a mic to go with my recent ZV-1 purchase this was what I was leading too but you made me confirm it. I currently have a Video Mic me I used to use on my mobile from years ago but needed a shock mount to put it onto the camera once it comes but it seems the cost for the shock mount is around A$30 incl shipping but for A$70 I can get another VideoMicro plus shock mount & windshield so just purchased another. Subscribed as it looks like you do a bit of everything I'm into Cheers!

Great review as usual Blunty with one major exception. The VideoMic Me is for smartphones in general, not just the iPhone. I'm looking to get one of these for my Nexus 6p and when you kept saying iPhone I thought maybe I had misread the specs until I went an double checked.

For what limited tinkering I've done with my camera/mic ( D5200 / Videomic Go ) the lack of a windsock has been a sour-point. comparing the two on your desk, the Go sounds 'clearer' in that the higher tinny frequency is picked up, while the Micro sounds 'clearer' in that there is more overall range, better bass sensitivity to balance it out. ignoring the dead cat, I'd still rate the micro as a better option, throw on the deadcat and it's a no brainer. but that's ignoring the dimensions of the two, and wow, so much in such a small form for the micro? I'd be tempted just as a gadget nerd, given I don't do anything quote unquote serious with my mic.
Interesting view of the two. the Micro is killing it though :)

It definitely sucks they didn't send you a product to review, this will be another one of the multiple video reviews that have me fidgeting to grab my credit card from my pocket and purchase ASAP. But I'm GLaD you did the review anyway because it seems like a fantastic product. I'm looking to grab the VideoMic Me to help with audio quality on my 'lazy vlog' type videos. Now if only my iPhone 6 Plus had a better front facing camera, we'd be golden!

Well I'm convinced. I'll have to get a VideoMicMe. Been loving the Rode stuff over the years. Started with a Podcaster and went from there. IDK, I feel like the GO sounds a LITTLE more natural on my laptop's built in speakers, but I can absolutely see why you'd choose the MicRo, it picks up a little more low end, and even if nothing else, the MicRo is MUCH smaller, which in some cases would make it worth while in and of itself.

Happy to hear the 'VideoMic Me' also works with Android devices. Looking at getting a pic to record my GT86's exhaust note at track days, but unsure if this mic would be suitable. Presumably, one could use this mic attached to a 3.5mm extension cable? That may make it more suitable, as I could have the mic duct-tapped to the car near the exhaust, with the cable running into my phone in the boot.... Hmm.
