    I'm just astonished by the machine gun cadence of you videos lately, you sure put a lot energy into the channel and with good and easy to digest format. Hope YT will finally appreciate your value and start promoting you so you can finally get at last the first plaque for 100k, although 1M would be more appropriate. Thanks and good luck!

    Version 2 adds a little to the low end compared to version 1, whereas the latter sounds clearer, hence more preferable to me. Equalizing a bit more richness to the lower frequencies is very easy to do in post.

    Having a headphones moment for this video, as recommended. Yes, I like the sound of the VM II as it does have better lows than the original. But I'd be hard pushed to make a choice as the original is quite punchy also. The VM II may just win out - still quite budget friendly. Great video Mark!

    I've got a similar setup of suspending the mic above me, I've got it on a magic arm on a cold shoe in my camera. (Mine is the TAKSTAR SGC-600).

    I have been running my Comica vm-10(rode micro chinese version) through my Hollyland Lark 150 to make a wireless boom mic. Also allows you to not rely on the cameras preamps and control gain through the Hollyland. I just ordered the Comica VM20 (NTG alternative) to use as my main boom mic, still goong to run it through the Hollyland bc less wires in my small space.

    I actually use a studio mic boomed (Lewitt LCT140), and when I want really good audio, I record into a USB interface into a DAW and sync up the audio later. These Rode wind muffs could be a lot smaller. I have a Chinese video mic clone with a much smaller furry muff that works perfectly in all situations but a hurricane. And I mean 70% smaller.

    In my experience the Micro version 1 is great for everything and one of the reasons is the lower sensitivity. Since this mic does not have a button or other option to reduce the power at will it is better to be less sensitive :). When you are in a very loud environment outside - it is a must. So what I expect from the new one - it is louder but this takes away some of the universality.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Рік тому

      I agree with this - the Videomic NTG for instance peaks like crazy on standard settings because of how sensitive it is. You have to use the -20db pad almost all the time

    On the fence with this one. I can see why they still sell both because there are tradeoffs. The mic2 seems like its cuts the highs which can be preferable in some cases but with voices I feel like it loses some. The side sound rejection could also be a benefit in some cases but in some cases I would want a little more side audio like if I am just walking around with my family and I want to catch side comments but not enough to use the built in mic. So I can see situations where both have an advantage. However, that is a steep price jump.

    So, I have the Micro 2, and it's a pretty decent mic. That said, I use it with my A7C, and the preamp situation is a bit strange. I have to lower the mic volume to about 8 or 12, depending on the situation. That said, what are your settings for the cameras, since you also use Sony?
    Also, I would love to hear about stereo mic solutions from the upcoming video!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Рік тому

      that is about right - you need to turn the Sony preamp down to about 7 or 8. to get proper levels. you always have to adjust the preamp to the mic. the lower you can make the Sony the better. when I use the rode videomic mtg, I turn the preamps down to 1 because I can turn up the volume on the mic itself.

    Very handsome - and intelligent - review, as usual. Except for my Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun mic, I have tons of Rode mics as well. I have the NTG5 which has a much fuller sound than its predecessors, which is why I have that. But, I am looking to replace my Sennheiser because the one I have I cannot twist off the section to replace the battery. I handed it to Arnold Schwarzenegger and even HE couldn't loosen it. The MKE 600, despite being cheaper than its (supposedly) higher end brothers, has the best audio quality I've heard out of any mic. It is literally perfect in every way. And I don't use the word "perfect" very often.
    I also have the Videomic GO II, which has excellent audio quality like most of Rode mics do. Sure, there are other brands - like Sennheiser - which are also very good. But, to me, Rode mics are consistently high quality for most of the mics they offer. And for their price points, you can't go wrong.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

    Thank you for the entertaining and informative video as always! Question if you can: I am trying to find a shotgun mic for my own YT channel that will do well enough at blocking out noise behind not just from the sides. My kids like to play and be loud even when dad tells them not to, ha. Such is life. So I got a fairly cheap BOYA Shotgun Mic and it blocked nothing. That wasn't powered however, it was plug and play like the Rode here. Would I need to step it up to the NG you are referring to? I don't mind charging the mic or having to plug it in as I would love to not have to use a desktop mic all the time (they do sound the best, just an extra object in the way). Thanks!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Рік тому +1

      In terms of blocking out sound, if you don’t mind having the mic in your shot like a lot of UA-camrs are doing these days, look at a dynamic microphone - that will isolate your sound a lot more. While a more expensive shotgun mic will reject some sound, you’ll always be able t on hear your kids. If my kids are making noise, even my NTG3 expensive mic picks them up easily - and I have sound blankets blocking them as well. So basically, I shoot when they’re not home of in bed, The other alternative is to get a dynamic mic and have it next to your moth in the shot like the Shure MV7

I have also bought the Rode VideoMicro (first one), but nothing happens when pugged on the camera, the audio keeps coming from the internal microphone. Do you know if a setting in the camera can explain this issue ? (I have used the provided cable and tried others, it is fully pushed in the mic input connector, no confusion with headphone output, and Rode micro works fine on my computer).
