You can't fix it unless you know it is an issue. And a 3rd party review will always see a different perspective.
You're saying "We'll just let the customer figure out what's wrong with it" Me, I want a great polished product and willing to pay a reasonable price for it.
@@rwhunt99not in this case.. the company sent to jay engineering sample to review first.. like loekie said.. jay see from different perspective..
@@rwhunt99There's a difference between "testing in prod" (which is pretty much the worst practice when it comes to QC and stuff) and what is basically an early access version where you can buy it if you want, but you of course have some risks. At the same time, it's not the final version of the product, so you can still give them feedback and they might actually resolve your issues.
@@poliwharaslah965 Yes, I agree, I forgot, it was a pre-production model, so they wanted him to test it for them, got it.
@@poliwharaslah965 Yeah, I got it, I forgot it was pre-production, and they used him to test it for them.
That's cool, not only do they appreciate an honest review, they implemented your suggestions immediately. I really hope they do well with this.
Game companies should take note. Instead of blaming their customers.
@@charlesr3351 No, we just need to get used to not owning games and paying for a subscription
@@charlesr3351Disney should also take note.
I think most of the problems we see these days with machining/assembly is a severe lack of reverse engineering or disassembly. Designers and engineers love to put things together, but they rarely do so with the opposite in mind
It's good to see Jay firing on all cylinders, he seemed to enjoy making thls one and I enjoyed watching it. Hope he starts feeling better and better
This shows how valuable it is for any small company to listen to reviewers like you and to early users. Early users are likely to be fans, and such enthusiastic users will help with finding faults and suggesting improvements.
Jay,
On a modern swiss turn lathe that little nipple will literally cost just the change of the NC code in the machine. I am a machinist and do this on the regular. But yeah Those little handle nuts are likely just turned on a lathe and parted off.
As a fellow machinist (EDM and CNC mill) I appreciate this comment from your specific viewpoint.
All that small companies need is a chance! Thank you Jay👌
That’s some impressive response time! ❤ I hope they’ll be the company that doesn’t fall in to the trap of hiring a CEO who considers only money and dehumanises the workers, the workers, the workers and the customers.
This is to every type of corporations: F the shareholders and F the people with inflated salaries who have nothing real to do with the the product.
That is awesome. I am so much considering a Mini-ITX for my next build and I loved this case design. Looking forward to seeing the revised version.
This is incredible! Thank you so much for the follow up and thank you THOR ZONE for listening and responding.
Massive props to them for listing and jumping on it!
Hopefully you can get to building in this case soon. I also want to see that solid block of copper being used in a build.
THOR ZONE well done guys for taking on and listening to the review. Real credit and hope this is a great success for you
Your suggestions were great in the original review, and their rapid response to recognising and repairing them is a credit to their dedication to the serious enthusiasts. Win-Win at its finest.
That "happy booby" comment had me laughing!
Love how they've taken so much on board and making improvements; shows how much they really care about their product!
It’s great seeing you Jay! Stay strong brother.
Good to see the response from thorzone... its refreshing to see a company taking immediate action...
Props to you and team for the review and props to thorzone for the response
Glad to hear the company listens and acts. I would just love to see some wooden accents on this case or something like it.
SICK CASE!!! WISH EVERY COMPANY WORKED LIKE THESE GUYS!
Changing to a hex head screw for the feet will be a cheap and easy fix as the screws are likely to be an off the shelf part, so they would simply have to spec a different screw. I agree, hex head would be better as it would allow for the use of a ball end hex wrench for better purchase on the angled approach
Hex heads come in some stupid small sizes. I got whole boxes of M3-M6 on in my shop in stainless(stupid good deal from an estate). Slowly using them here and there.
I like ve this channel, not just for the reviews, but the thoughtful takes. Not just saying this is an issue, but pointing out why its an issue and possible solutions, not just "complaints".
Great work on the feedback Jay!
Very cool of them to get that sorted right away.
Just got done building a PC for my Niece. Montech Sky one White. Easy build, all in one front panel connector plug. Cable man, room. Pleasantly happy with Montech.
Recently did a SFF build for my wife with the Hyte Revolt 3. She wanted SFF for the desk space. The small real-estate requirement is a great benefit.
Very cool for prompt reply
Love the videos. Happy new year
well nice that some manufacturers listen to reasonable suggestions to improve their products
love how they responded that fast GG Thor Zone
wish there were more companies like this: reviews feedback, takes criticism, uses info to improve a product. You love to see it
awesome looking case
I love that solution 5:55 !
3:49 They could design some plastic/rubber clip on feet for the handles that could change the contact location & widen the stance.
Better yet, release some scan info & let the hobby 3D print market at it.
ahh.....how sending early stuff to reviewers SHOULD work. fair, honest review and then they took that and implemented what made sense!!!!! go jay! go thor zone!
Always love the small guy...alot of times they are even better then the huge ones! As I sit here typing on my 15" M2 Macbook Air next to my mostly Corsair built PC lol
Other manufactures needs to take note of this. Send pre production samples for review, get the necessary feedback from experts, then apply those changes to the production model.
Dude, that's awesome! I know they are out of my budget, but it's nice to know those companies still exist.
Like the FT03 Reinvested. Still have that case. Love it!
Pretty nice case and the founders edition blends really well in it.
The outer shell most likely starts out with a flat sheet of aluminum. Those slots and holes are either laser cut or die punched, then they fold it into that box shape and weld the seam.
Dear Jay, i love your vids and let me start off by wishing you all the best health wise. Your reviews are above all honest and pragmatic and i love it. And its even better to actually see the vendor responding in a positive fashion with the suggested improvements.
The handle setup might be better achieved if they used micro torx like on the handles on a refrigerator. Then you don’t have to try and get inside the handle .
Top man, Great work.
Thor Zone just got some really good publicity and it is well deserved
I love it when companies listen to constructive criticism and address it, instead of immediately going defensive.
I don't remember having seen the original video but I've seen that one so win-win great to hear they will fix the gpu holding system
You are making a change in the industry. Cool.
I do the type of critique for new medical equipment, and I love it when companies take the input and produce a better product.
Wow! Thats cool. A company out there doing the right thing. I might cry. KUDOS to THOR ZONE!!!! Yep, I cried
Its always great when companies are willing to make changes to the design quickly so they can avoid later issues. Respect to them every time. Its just sad that bigger companies have just excuses and no will to do what needs to be done to make things better. We sort of had that issue at work when we were supposed to stop making extensions for tipper trailers and make sides higher to have less pieces to make and sort of having less things to break when its working but that was about 2 years ago and still no progress xD.
Nice they made a key and a keyway to prevent it from slipping. Lol at it being referred to as a nipple, made me chuckle
I can't wait to see the custom water cooled builds that come from this beautiful piece of metal. I'm hoping to get in on the second wave of this case and I want to water cool it.
@6:11 Those are called Keyways, and their respective slots are called keyseats. Name comes from the mechanical industry where square keystock is implemented to stop concentric parts from rotating, like the original cap was doing with the locktite screw.
It seems to me that if they indented the steel plug, they could still turn it on a lathe, and then drill or grind the indent into it quickly. Even better would be a simple matching flat on the plug and case. And you are 100% correct - Allen screw, NOT flathead. Even existing users could probably swap those out for Allen screws, unless they are an exotic type.
I'd lean into making those caps square for aesthetics, and of course a handle to end with square profile to match it
I wonder why they didn't make the notch concave instead of convex? A concave notch is something you can easily machine into a turned bolt, just smash it in a jig and run a drill/machining bit on its side => done. same with the case side, where now instead of just machining a hole, they could just machine a partial hole with the indent.
with it being concave however the case side is still easy, but the bolt now can't really be turned anymore so it has to be machined on a cnc, which is just much more effort (and I'm guessing more expensive)
With custom tooling you could still broach that shape on a conventional multi-spindle, but yeah that new shape is not kind.
4 million subscribers good to go Jay2cents.
An easier way to fix the handle issue would be to just make them either wider and flatter or have an actual flat foot pad on them at the corners. As is, it appears that they are rounded on the surface that it would stand on. It wouldn't matter if it has those little rubber washer pads, it would always seem unstable, as there is very little anti-slip surface area on those little rubber washer.
You are the host of one of my favorite subscriptions. Keep up the great work. You are always helping others so maybe I can help you with a trick that I've never seen you do. It is a desktop shortcut to your UEFI... On your desktop Right click and choose
In the location box type shutdown /r /fw /t 1 then hit enter
Then Right Click on the shortcut go to check the Run as Administrator box and hit OK. This shortcut restarts your system in the BIOS.
This is useful. Not really what his channel features, but some comment readers will appreciate it. 👍
Reinventing the wheel. Just file one side of that plug flat or even square all around.
If round shape is a visual choice, the square part can be below and recessed. That's how bolts work, square bolt with round cap.
The fact they sent it out and took the criticism like RIGHT lets get this fixed. They NEED reviews like the original video. I love it
Great video as usual and this company has my interest now. For the handles being used as feet in the vertical orientation, they could design a platform the handles slot into that is wider so the case doesn’t wobble. This eliminates the need for a redesign and can be made separately. I know I would prefer placing it horizontal so they could offer it for free for those who want it to cut some cost. Just some ideas.
Companies like this believe in the essence of a symbiotic relationships between consumer/reviewer and themselves. keep this up and they can go far.......KUDOS!
Goated company for actually listening
Thor-Zone and Billet Labs would seem to be two outfits with the same approach. Synergy too; I'd like to see a build combining the two. Mini-ITX isn't really my thing though; I'd snap one up in Micro-ATX though!
You pointed out the issues, they created solutions.
If they're gonna be any good, we'll see once we have a production unit (aka, the unit that the customer receives).
The Billet labs cooler would be sick in this Jay...once they've sent you the revised gasket thing...would look industrial awesome
When will we see a build in it, Jay and crew!? I'm thinking about ordering one, but would like to see some tests on noise and thermals.
that Cabinet standing on the feet/handles reminded me of my main speakers that are tall slim. i made a wider base for them. so thebhandsles should be wider out out and i would prefer them to be flat and wider there as well so the connection to the desktop is bigger
nice jay noted the ship made in turku shipyards what traveled from finland to it owner
Yeah I like to take a look at boutique cases and see what kind of builds I'd be able to have in there too. Even if I can't afford to do it.
This case plus the Billet Labs Monoblock would be ridiculous. Thanks guys.
Nice case.
That was fast! Very nice! Agree the FE GPU looks great in this case! Did not see a solution on how to get the case off a head. Maybe slots for ears?
Im ordering one when they become available. Sounds like they care. Also that case looks amazing anyway.
I hope they send the new version. I'd like to see a build in this.
Great to see reviewers giving constructive criticism that was taken to heart so fast.
What an awesome response from thorn zone. Big respect for them to actually listen and make proper adjustments for it. This is what the industry really needs.
THOR Zone is an amazing company. So ready for critique to improve on their cases.
This case is gonna be on my desk 🤩🤩🤩
my first thought for that plug was to "key" the shank. so that one side would be flattened and out of site.
Would be REALLY cool to see this case with the monoblock. Just a thought but that would be REALLY cool if it works
Neat, they saw the same solution that I did when I was watching the video.
I love when companies actually listen to constructive criticism, and fix issues they may not have noticed. It's one of those "you dont know, until you know, and now you know" situations. But actually listen and make changes instead of ignoring the end consumer.
Yay Jay takes the credit again.
Those little bolts should have hex heads to use with a ball-end hex driver.
Nice to see.
I am a machinist by trade, and that small redesign is actually huge. The nipple means that part is no longer able to be simply turned on a lathe. That now has to be milled, as does the mating part, though that is most likely already a milling operation. Still, it may require an additional smaller endmill to make that pocket. There are simpler ways they could have gone about that and saved some money, but I appreciate the extra effort. I love when parts come through the shop that could be made simpler, but aren't for aesthetic or quality reasons. Really shows pride in the product being produced.
My first thought was a square rod which would require far less work. A square head won't turn in a square hole but then it doesn't match the rest of the rounded aesthetics. So if they are willing to make it this way, more power to them.
that is why we used ellipse when we had to have this type of "hole" cover with nut-type cover, simply because mills are round and machining squares as @cokeydidit suggested will not work without considerable time delay in production and retooling.
Another machinist, @nissan300ztt, mentioned that a modern Swiss turn lathe can do it no problem with a simple NC code update.
The third point of contact for VGA is a must even if you don’t travel with the case, that’s a valid complaint and suggestion, good the company took it seriously.
I got burned by kickerstarter with the Air Pix. I did however have amazing results with the BrakeFree motorcycle helmet brake light. I wear that thing every time I ride and always get compliments on it and its visibility. Really depends on the product I guess.
You have the power. JAY
deym that founders card looks at home on that case. sheeeshh! love to build one like that
I don't always need Jay and the wealth of information on this channel but when I do, there's no one else I trust more than Jay's Two Cents.
They could keep the caps round and just add a slot on the inside, just machine the caps with a spline and cut a slot inside the hole in the case where the cap fits.
if you could suggest them to make the steel bars thicker, if would be much better and more rigid and reassuring. Noticed in last video and this one that the bars are super thin and already bent since they have milled at least half of the diameter across the length to make flat surfaces that accept motherboards.
I love this case. I wouldn't even care if the outside was 4 separate pieces bolted together.
Jay, you were honest AND humorous, so no "UA-cam jail" for you!
So UA-cam says your initial video was posted 8 days ago and this was posted about 5 hours ago. That means they had about a week to see what you said, figure out how to implement fixes, and respond with "yeah, this is what we can do". For a manufactured product, that is really fast! Great reason to go with a small manufacturer instead of one of the megacorps if you can. :)
ALMOST 4 MILLIONS SUBS! :O
as someone using 8 hdds for an direct attached zfs pool I'm somewhat against small formfactor - maybe due to my 2nd system which I put together as my off-load stream box with a capture card was hard to find components for
currently I plan to build my own case as I also plan to upgrade my pool to the max my hba supports: 20 drives
