Thanks for letting us know! We really appreciate your input. We'll fix the manual within 12 hours.
EK you are awesome, just wish watercooling wasn't so dang expensive. I have a top level rig but adding another $1600+ wasn't in the budget. Which makes me sad.
you can custom loop a cpu for 500 to 600. only way you'd spend 1600 would be with distroplates, mono blocks etc@@neileddy6159
Plenty of cheaper quality parts around dont just have to use EK parts @@neileddy6159
10/10, love to see this.
You don't need it to be honest. Unless you're going for aesthetics or a special themed build, the amount you will spend can hardly be justified with real hains. It's also a pain to resell a build with a custom loop because not everyone has the knowledge to do the maintenance. Also, poor, poor, resell value.
I can't hear Jay saying "fill port" without thinking "Phil port".
It's great to see Skunkworks become over-the-top again. With everyone having the same components for a top-end build having the customisations really sets it apart.
I can’t believe we are watching a new skunkworks build in the classic SM8 in 2023! This is incredible 👍🏻👍🏻
SMA8
@@freighter1097 typo. Smite me down
Hey Jay, I have this exact board and I may have a word of advice for ya (not that you need one, lol). Since you will be using your 4090 on this board, you won't be able to run it @ x16 speed because of the NVME that you have installed in M.2_1 slot. That slot shares bandwidth with PCIEX16(G5)_2 so when M.2_1 is populated your card will be limited to x8 speed. You can mitigate that by installing your NVME in slot M.2_2 or M.2_3.
Awesome comment, I have the same mobi too, as well as a 4090. I made that mistake because that info is practically hidden in the user guide. It took me a while to figure it out, hopefully he will make the switch before he fills up the loop!
phil's editing is a masterclass man in showmanship and in making the videos easier to understand for the viewer
I have the same motherboard installed 4 SSD's.
The only slot I skipped is the one you use the top one (under the display) for a PCIe Gen 5.0 M.2 SSD.
That slot will disable you 2nd PCIe slot and make your 1st PCIe slot (GPU Slot) a X8.
I tested it with a Gen 4.0 SSD but doesn't matter if it Gen 4.0 or 5.0 it will make your GPU run on X8 speed.
I totally understand your frustration with your 7950x3d. Luckily I can't say my experience has been the same as it just works, and damn well at that. Hopefully your situation can be resolved with some future bios updates. I'm super excited to see how well you can cool that 14900k with a setup like that!
very easily just like the 13900k, limit the power to 270w, attach an aio and enjoy 80c to 85c max temps.
@@MikeZak101 It's a skunkworks build... the whole point is that he could overclock that thing and still have it running at 60 with its own dedicated loop
I didn't understand it either when Jay said it.. There is a famous guy here in Brazil running a 7950x3d with a ROG board at 7800Mhz CL36 extremely stable.
I haven't had a issue with my 7950X3D. I run the memory at 6000mhz and have for several months. Perhaps the motherboard he is using has issues... I use an Asus Strix X670E, and after the BIOS issues were sorted out it has been super stable.
I am on a 7800X3D I have had artifacting and other issues like being able to see through glitchy smoke in CS2 "hacks" at first I thought it was my 2070super that I maxed till I upgrade. Thanks Jay I will try and drop my 6000mhz ram to 5000mhz or so and maybe that will fix my problems with long boot times and bugs.
Make an extension cable for the lost ROG display panel and have Phil 3D print some sort of housing, so it can be remounted somewhere in the chassis/build
So fun watching the skunkworks builds! looking forward to the rest Jay!
3D print a plate/mount for the reservoirs. You can add channels for LEDs etc
I’m so glad that this build is coming back. Skunkworks was a big inspiration for me back then. It’s really hitting me in the nostalgia.
These big water cooling build videos are my favorite. I really enjoy watching your thought process. I appreciate your opinion and why you have that opinion. The antics make it even more fun to watch. Thank you guys for the content!! I'm looking forward to the next video.
The project that sparked my love for building PCs. Jay, i started watching you in 2015-2016 with your skunkworks videos and I can happily share I’ve built my first pc (last year) because of your videos. Thank you
GN tests concluded there wasnt much difference between the TG and cheaper contact frames, it's just a bit more finicky to install the 10$ one, but they did post a guide on best way to install it :D
This stream brought to us by Jayz guitar reminding him. Thanks for sharing the new Skunkworks build. Looking forward to seeing it inaction and the back brace belt in use to lift it when its done.
Seriously I'd be interested in how much the system weighs when its all done built and loops filled.
Your Skunkworks (and the red and white build) build was the inspiration for me to start doing watercooling, so it's awesome to see you giving it a revival!
I hope you will also include in this build a video about how you setup your software to manage all this magnificent machine.
The Red Mist res plate is an absolutely brilliant idea, Jay! Avoids any fenangling with dremel case modding, gives you cable management space, and will look great! I'd say go for that
Actually so cool seeing you building a revamp of skunkworks, I still remember finding this channel when I was having fun back in the day with my 4690k, learned how to overclock and alot of other stuff from your videos over the years.
"Should've been the thumbnail?".. I agree!!!!! Comedy Gold
Love this series so far. I'll probably never do a custom loop (poverty sort of makes that decision for me) but man, I still love learning about it and watching you come up with ideas and workarounds when some sort of issue arises.
Nice industrial build like this will always be my favorite. I have a machinist job background, and Skunkworks is one of the best builds you have done.
I love the black interior with the gunmetal exterior.
Absolutely loving October's tech-marathon-- and very excited to see Skunkworks alive and kicking, again.
What's really nice about these videos man is that beyond the practical and educational aspect, there's a vicarious giddiness experience from watching as you enthuse and play. We can share the enthusiasm, and for that alone I would say thank you! That CPU block man.. The floating panel idea for the reservoirs is a very tidy plan. There's clearly going to be some significant work going into this, even for a Skunkworks resurrection. I agree with you on the screen loss.. that is very much an integral part, and likely a intentional aspect of your choice to buy that board.
It's looking good! Love these videos, agreed a little attention to detail, and patience equals a great build.
All the rads. It's sunkworks. Put a rad everywhere you can!!! You definitely need a front rad to fill it out. Put a slim boy in there!
so happy Skunkworks is back, makes me think back to all the times i used to drool at it when you were working on it back in your home studio! Youve come a long way Jay, keep it up!
if you space the reservoir panel properly and if the shape is compatible. you could use that panel to cover the cable grommets possibly, and since they will be moved closer to the mobo area, might give you more room for that front rad???
I love the graphene pads, just reinstalled one myself. So nice to not have to deal with a paste mess anymore and the temps are great!
Thanks for posting Jay. Keep up the great work.
Nick has been your " BOY " for years.
glad to see some old school open loop videos. it's your videos that inspired me to do an open loop.
I still love the gunmetal and yellow version of this case/build, imo the best any version ever looked. Stokes to see the end product
I am so excited to see Skunkworks make a come back. You and that case where the start of why I love this channel.
It is funny to think about your SSD 4 TB Drive. I remember as a kid thinking we will never need a 1 GB drive but now I have 2 2TB SSD's in my machine and am constantly worrying about how much space I have available.
I can't wait to see this finished. Wouldn't mind seeing the case next to the 925...Isn't it going to be huge comparatively? Enjoying the adventure!
Love Phil "That's gonna hold so many games you won't play" 🤣
I'm loving this already. Throw back to OG skunk...
I am super excited to see this build completed. Its going to look, dare I say it, EPIC!
Legit stoked to see this Case and PC coming together again! She's gonna be a badass unit.
The original CPU block from Grizzly may be milled better to a tighter tolerance to better fit the CPU to the motherboard.
Yes I think so. And it's made in Germany and the new version is engineered to be Jay-proofen. There is a lot more R&D involved to make something a product that everyone can use without breaking stuff. If you just copy someones product that obviously not the case.
The 1st version shouldn't been an regular TG product at first because Roman intended it only for extreme overclockers. But than the extent of the problem surfaced after launch so it became a regualar product. The old version was and is 30€ and the new one is 45€ here. That's a very mild uplift when you consider the additional R&D and that basiclly everything in the EU from power and gas to fertilizer and food got 1/3 more expensive over the last 2 years... So no Roman TG tax just stupid war tax.
I'd either sand down the ABS, prime, and paint like you did the case interior or save yourself and the sanding and paint Acrylic panel for that platform. That way you retain the interior color, can mount hardware to it, and like Red Mist it would make the build more modular and clean.
I love PPCS and I will always shop with them hank is so friendly and fast to respond to my emails my cerakoted parts look soooo good
I can't wait to see Skunkworks come back to life! I subscribed during the Skunkworks days so i'm really eager to see the new iteration of Skunkworks!
Thank you for this video. Helps bring pricing into perspective I was just asking this type of question on the last video
That floating platform idea is soo good, its gonna look amazing. Can't wait to see it
100% agree about performance-pcs. Have ordered from them a few times and it has arrived in Australia within a week. Now thats impressive.
The black interior looks soooo good with the grey. Personally I’d go with acrylic over the ABS for the pump mount. Or 3D print something and throw some flair in there, maybe even a big (or bunch of small) JTC logo(s) or something
Soooooooo excited for this build. At least you get all.the.things with that Monoblock…
Jay, revive the engine build next! With this many rads you can use two 480 as like a valve cover with some 3D printed intake plenum part to feed it air, same can be done with the exhaust. Water lines to make it looks like fuel lines, alternator shaped reservoir etc, you can make it look so good!
I just wish I could get to build my new custom loop, with all parts waiting to go at my home, but it's kind of hard when you are not allowed to get up from the bed by your own by the hospital staff. They also don't allow me to build it here for some reason😋 Thank you JayZ for these build videos. They really help me past the the time. I appriciate them hugely. They make my day. Thank you❤
I started using Performance PCs after seeing Jay talk about them. They have a ton of stuff in stock and it satisfies my want to order everything in ONE place.
Yay!!!
Thanks, Jay!!
Love you guys!
I always forget how big the SMA8 case is. Seeing all that empty space next to a normal ATX motherboard puts into perspective how ginormous the case really is.
Tape a skunkworks logo to the res plate, paint the plate and peel the tape. Lighting lights up the logo sounds pretty cool
28:25 Its like it makes the build even more uniqly your build. Always love watching your videos, thank you Jay and Team
Cool cool! Excited to see it all come together
Late video for us East Coast nerds. Better late than never
And too early for the EU-Crew
Love my Caselabs and love this series Jay! Also fully agree on performance-pcs, got all of my nice bitspower and singularity kit from there and they were really easy to work with ❤
LOVE this video, and that case came out amazing! Keep up the great work.
These are my favorite type of videos. "JayzTwoBuilds"!
Absolutely love it! And great idea about the floating panel
LOL. Jay talking about making a new hole for cables for the reservoirs, when there's already a big hole for bales an inch or so to the left, beside the motherboard.
can't wait to see what this looks like when it's finished!!
Here in Germany the contact frame 2 is actually cheaper than cf1.
Amazon prices:
1st Gen - 45€
2nd Gen - 40€
This is an insane build... so cool to see.
Idea. With the floating panel do etched acrylic with black metal behind it and light the etching with a hidden led strip around the edge of the acrylic.
awesome build guys.
Skunky looks great with the black interior
yeah when I built Xenovia back in 2021 I got the watercooling stuff from performance pcs. She's my coolest running PC ever. And the first PC I've ever had that has never overheated.
i would choose see tru acrylic, for the plate behind the tanks, (milky) and paint or plot a design on that, so that light could go tru it... maybe like pcb traces or something
It’s nice 👍 to see Asus back on the channel!!!!!!
I think the pricing of the contactframe is because of the engineering costs.
They have a laser measuring machine, to check the exact contact improvement.
I think something like 1/4" or 1/2" Sintra (expanded PVC sheet) would work well for mounting the resivoirs. Relatively low shine, super easy to work with, and smooth surface.
I'm having a good experience with deepcool and I just wanted to mention it, accidentally scratched my tempered glass side panel I was expecting the cost of the glass and shipping was going to be $100, deepcool told me it's going to be $28 to ship me a new side panel. Awesome work deepcool xD
Ek did the samething with their 6900xt instructions. They left off a row of mosfets for thermal pads. Good thing i caught it before running.
Beautiful work!!
Jay, just 3D print a custom designed plate to mount the reservoirs to with a custom design on it.
I like the idea and look of the floating panel, I would also use custom made bracket so the 2 reservoirs sit closer together on the left side, That should leave enough room to run the 360mm radiator on the front of the case.
Id rather prefer a carbon floating panel which would look awesome imo.
The LightWings fans are my favorite, used them in both my builds.
The love build series. Get a bit of unboxing and creative design process. But wait there's more, you get to watch a pc build, nothing better!
Dude I love that pump-res!! I went through the same thing when building my system last year and came across that model by alphacool and I bought it right away. It’s glass and has Rgb for the res it’s so sick and minimalistic looking
This is your go overkill build. I say still do a 360 on the front, just use a slim rad. It would be spectacular to have all that and the stand off floating pump/res panel. I am excited to see skunkworks back in action once agian.
Just use small headphone jacks to make quick connects for the reservoirs.
You can use your Cricut to engrave that acrylic sheet and if you use side lighting to light up the engraving.
All those radiators gave me a huge smile I don't know why!
The mistake is not having the 7800x3D. My lil guy cruises with his 6000mhz sticks with nary a problem. Stable, speedy, tidy frame times. **chef’s kiss**
Jay loves his gray.
Instead of doing acrylic, or if you can make it work, toss a polished aluminum or something high polish or even an infinity mirror behind the pumps. You said several times making it look bigger is something you like, that's a good way to do it while being able to make the lights pop more. With a custom infinity mirror setup you could even just do lights inside it. That'd be pretty sick.
Finally part 2 ❤
interesting that you migrated back to the Extreme Maximus. I understand you already had it and I do respect that you severed your line with Asus. Lets be honest, it really is the sexiest z790 MB out there.
Rockin the mighty case labs case. Me too!
A very meeey techtober to all. Can’t wait to see the finished build
You have the tools, you've done it before, de-lid the thing!
Jay - you can do the bigger hole thru the floating platform and then just pass the sata connectors thru the normal grommet so you don't even have to put any more holes in the case.
JAYYYYYYYYY! Move the reservoirs closer together.
1. Check whether the reservoir mounting are removable.
2. If removable, cut the inner screw holes and weld the brackets together and make one large reservoir bracket.
3. Check with Corsair whether they can send you replacement brackets in case you mess up.
You should consider hair dryering off the screen and sticking it back on the monoblock!
Lets GOOO more skunkworks!!
Looking Good!
This gonna be one awesome build
