    the Beaumont WAS a Chevelle, but with a Pontiac LeMans/GTO dash and unique grille and taillights. they were sold at Pontiac dealers to offer buyers a midsized car, since GM didn't assemble Tempests LeManses in Canada. At the same time, the big Pontiacs were Chevys but with Pontiac styled body panels designed to fit the Chevrolet's 119 inch wheelbase

    I'm in Canada and had a Canadian built 1968 Chevelle. One thing you might notice was correct for Canadian built cars is the body colored firewall. American built cars were black.

    I really wish they would quit calling these Beaumonts a Pontiac. Nowhere on the car does it say Pontiac. Beaumont was it's own make. It was formally an Acadian but I think that name went away for the mid size cars and was still called so on the Nova based Cansos.

      It's a Pontiac....if Jim wangers says it's a Pontiac, then it's a Pontiac. There's a Pontiac emblem with two Maple leafs above it right on the front grille divider.

    I saw that car down in Phoenix, AZ. at a weekly car show, and it's beautiful. It's probably the nicest, most correct SD396 clone I've ever seen, and the owner is a great guy to talk to. The Beaumonts were not "Pontiacs" any more than GMC trucks are. The Vehicle Identification Numbers tell the tale: Pontiac VINs began with the number 2. Beaumont VINs began with the number 7. Shared parts? Yes. Pontiacs? NO!

      I was down there 20 years ago, and thought I was looking at a classic Chevelle, I looked closer, checked out the tail lights and saw the Beaumont nameplate. I thought it was interesting. I talked to the owner and he explained that GM produced them in a Chilean town called Arica....apparently it was popular down there...

      @gojoe2833 6 років тому +2

      Barry Snider exactly correct. Nowhere on the car nor in advertising literature is a Beaumont referred to as a Pontiac. They were all Chevelle except for the taillights and grille, and the Pontiac LeMans dashboard. Even the steering wheel on this one comes from the 68 Impala...

    Very nice looking Clone SD Beaumont. There are many social media sites that specialize directly with the Beaumont car line. I see there are alot of purist enthusiasts out there that have added some interesting information to help clarify the obscure nature of these cars. One thing that must be corrected is that there were actually 65 1968 Beaumont SD convertibles known to have been built. Of those 65, it becomes more obscure on how many were 325 or 350 HP, and even more rare how many of those were 4 speed cars. Perhaps those people with the actual data on these numbers might weigh in and help to decipher these ultra rare Canadian gems. PS.....technically...NOT a Pontiac. If you look closely at the cowl tag in the video, this car clearly is not a "738" car which would instantly verify it to be a true and pure factory built example of an SD convertible.

    That's cool for a Pontrolet/Chevroliac. Usually, they're full-sized Pontiacs with tiny Chevy engines. I've never yet seen a Chevelle with a G.T.O. dash before. Too bad that at least these special ones weren't available in the U.S.. Is this particular one equipped with a two-barrel carb? Only 325 horses seems too few for one having the Quadrajet

      isailwind of course they were Pontiacs ; they were just the Canadian version. All Canadian Pontiacs used Chevy engines for a better part of the Sixties. For example my father had a 1960 Pontiac Laurentian with a 348 Chevy and my uncle had a 68 Pontiac Grande Parisienne with a Chevy 396.

    I have a 68 Beaumont but it's not registered and not road worth the frame was rotten on it when I got it and the floor and body was not in great shape from those Canadian winters but I ended up putting the body on a chevy 4x4 frame and made it a mud truck out at my family's farm I still have it but it's even worse now than it was when I got it but I did save as much of the good parts off of it as I could to sell to people restoring the cars because I know the cars are rare and if it was in better shape then it was when I got it I would of restored it or sold it to someone that would but body panels are Nil and some of the parts like grille taillights and stuff like that are like hens teeth to find so I did what I could with it and made it a awesome mud bugger it was that or the crusher and I did not want to see it go there even though it should of went there.

      Peter Hogan yes they were a rebadged Chevelle but they had a higher quality Pontiac interior but if you wanted a Pontiac Beaumont you had to go to a Pontiac dealer. The best comparison is a Chev pickup or GMC pickup. Totally the same but different badging. Ford always claims they sell more 150s but not if you combine these 2

    Beaumont were so Pontiac.. it says so in part number manuals, assembly manual, radio manual, GM Historical society and Jim Wangers chief engineer of pontiac inventor of GTO autographing the car "its still a Pontiac" then its a Pontiac. Only pontiacs have split grill. The 1965 Beaumont am/fm radio fm slide bar says Pontiac.. 30yrs I've owned these cars.. do your homework.. pontiac

      Acadian and Beaumont were separate GM brands in Canada and were shown as such in the vehicle registration. No mention of Pontiac anywhere. They of course used many common parts with other GM models but officially they were not Pontiacs but separate brands. You won't find a single Pontiac reference anywhere in their owner's manuals or sales brochures.
      The first car I drove regularly after getting my license at age 16 in Edmonton, Alberta was my mother's 1963 Acadian Beaumont 2-door hardtop. Beaumont then was the top trim line of the Chevy II-based Acadian, but in 1964 the Beaumont name ws moved to become a brand of its own for the new mid-size Chevelle-based Beaumont and the previous mid-range Canso became the top-trim level for the Chevy II-based Acadian in 1964.

      While it looks like the American Chevelle that it was based on, Chevelles were USA produced and sold through Chevy dealerships. Acadias and Beaumonts were produced by GM of Canada and sold exclusively through Canadian Pontiac and Buick dealerships, as Chevrolet was not permitted to sell their brand/models inside of Canada until 1970. There's a longer, more complete history about that and why, but you'll need to research the story further to get all of the nitty-gritty details. 😊👍🇺🇸

    Beaumont was not a pontiac! Nowhere does it say Pontiac anywhere! Not even on the title. It was manufactured in Canada by GM
