On "My Car Story" we're at The Arizona Concours d”Elegance in Scottsdale AZ on 1-20-24.
We're looking at a 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible in Pink Mist Paint. The car comes with the 400 CI V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Ken Barnett. Ken’s had this car since 2021. Ken shares he used to have a Firebird in High School with a 350, and this one with the 400 is just that much better, and his wife loves it too. The cars first owner was Nancy Sinatra and it’s not often you see a car from the Factory with this color.

My Dad worked in final process at Lordstown in 1968. I remember him talking about this car coming down the line. It was a big deal! They knew it was going to her. She was a hot commodity during that time. I could tell he was very proud of it being built there! RIP Dad.

I wonder if Nancy was ever like the rest of us and thought 'why in the world did I ever sell that car'. You rarely see 1st Gen F-bodies optioned to the hilt like that, so it's a treat to see one fully loaded. Special paint is so rare too- $725 in today's money. Whether pink is your thing or not, that's one outstanding Firebird. Thanks Lou!!

PINK is psychologically a DISARMING colour! See: "The Pink Room". Whenever I hitch-hike I try to wear my pink Polo golf shirt! One woman gave me a ride from Tukwilla to Oroville, WA., bcuz I was wearing that shirt.
That's because REAL men wear pink! Historically speaking, before the turn of the last century, pink was for boys and blue was for girls. Sears and other magazines started switching the colors in the 20's. George Washington's favorite suit was pink. I had a dusk rose pink 57 Thunderbird and I used to wear a pink polo and pink ball cap when I drove it. I only got beat up twice. Ha ha!!
My dad had a black 350 & I was supposed to obtain it at some point but he ended up selling it for profit to someone he did not know... this is and always has been my dream car. I'm in my early 50's and am still aiming to get one somehow. Only time will tell. 🙃
Boy, this is definitely one rare 'bird! I think it looks fantastic in Pink Mist and the white interior, too. You will always get noticed in this car, and meeting other car guys & gals is part of the fun. Thanks for finding and sharing Mr. Barnett and his gorgeous '68 Firebird with us, Lou!

That's a grrreat colour! I've never seen one like that before! I remember in 1967 when the Fire Chickens lol first came out. A neighbour had one and it had the tach on the hood too! I'm a big rag top fan as well! Most of my cars over the years were convertibles...

Very nice, the '68 Firebird holds a special place in my heart. My father had a HT in black w/white interior, 350-4 speed and I learned to drive in it when I was 14-15. It was a beast, everything was manual as it did not have all the options of this fine example. Brings back some great memories, Thanks Lou!

blane, I was the same age when these "Birds" appeared on the streets of Vancouver! In my 'hood' many of the older boys were customizing old cars, and I would see the odd new car like this Bird around too.

I always loved these over the Camaros of that period; I was a boy in junior high then. I don't recall seeing one of these with power windows and that a/c is so rare. What a beauty!

That "boot" was made for rockin'... so they added weight to stabilize the ride in the trunk ! LOL... Imagine doing that today... amazing car !

Fantastic car and story. My dad bought a new '68 Lemans and even though it was a bigger car, it shared some of the design elements of the Firebird. Even as a 9yo kid back then, I remember and loved '68 'bird. Thanks for sharing this beautiful car and memory!

It was nice to see this pristine 68' bird becuse 1 block from my house there has been a red 67' with black ragtop/int, 400, 4 speed sitting in a carport since 1982. Everything is there. Ragtop falling apart, 4 flats, sunbaked paint on one side. No rust though. Imagine that Lou, you might have been riding in the same seat Frank did. (If he let Nancy drive)

So like the Mary Kay pink Cadillacs they used to give out. The colors varied a little over the years, was just curious what the code was. And man, I could see the beautiful Nancy Sinatra cruising around in that! 😀

Awwwww...you got me with this one, big bro Lou. That is one helluva beautiful Firebird, and the perfect ride for Pinky Tadesco (she was the leader of the Pink Ladies and the Fonz's girlfriend on "Happy Days", BTW. But you knew that already, I am sure)😆. It's so funny, cause I was born in the early 1970's and grew up in the 80's in a blue collar, working class, Roman Catholic American community-so us boys wore white tubesocks and super floppy sneakers, played baseball/football/hockey and chased girls. I haven't changed at all in those regards. But NO pink lol🤣!! Jeez Louise no! Not even pink stripes on top of my tubesocks, Lou-THAT would get me knocked out for sure when I was a kid! So this Firebird has a total shock value by it's effeminate color, in addition to it just being a 1968!! But truly, I do think it's great that guys today can wear pink proudly, tho I'll stick to yellow, blue or green stripes on top of my tubesocks, thank you very much 🤣. But this Firebird belonged to Nancy Sinatra? How freakin' cool is that, man?! WOW. I wonder if her Dad ever sat in the passenger seat? THAT is enough for ownership, I think! Nancy Sinatra had good taste; because this 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible looks simply spectacular in that rare Pink Mist color! I visited her UA-cam channel and, apparently, she likes the color pink, since that predominant tone appears in the background in her intro and icon. I love the front, with that downward bulge of the hood to meet the chrome front grille that, together with the additional air intakes, give the appearance of looking into the beak of a bird... possibly the Firebird! Excellent transition you made to demonstrate the folding roof. A magnificent combination of interior tones; with its doors and seats in a kind of white beige, black instrument panel and the inevitable touch of wood (special mention for the three-spoke chrome steering wheel and its light wood radio). Interesting were the spec sheets on the trunk, and, of course, the black and white photo of Nancy about to get into the car! As always, the final walk is beautiful; especially, when they went through that tunnel, hehe. Congratulations to Mr. Barnett, for this Pontiac star that belonged to a great star! Best regards, Lou!

She wanted the A/C with the convertible because she just optioned the car out with everything. Money was no object so she said give it the works. I bet she paid cash for it too.

Pontiac gave Nancy Sinatra this car. Nancy was given what Nacy wanted. She was a Sinatra, after all. It was supposed to be used in Nancy's TV special "Movin' With Nancy", but it arrived too late. There is a picture of this car in the "Movin' With Nancy" in the garage. That's probably where that picture was captured from. Instead, they used a '57 T-bird which had been modified by George Barris. I don't believe that Nancy was seen in the T-bird, but in the driving scene, that was Nancy's brother Frank Jr. wearing gloves.

I am actually a Ford guy. All my cars except one that I have owned have been Ford products. The one was Plymouth. However, if I were going to own a GM car, out of all the cars GM has ever made, the Firebird is the car I would have bought. That pink is coming across as yellow on my screen. It must be something to do with the lighting, I was wondering if I had an eye problem until you showed the underside of the trunk lid and that looked pink. I knew when you said it was pink, it had to be a woman's car. So when it made sense that it was pink when it was mentioned who the original owner was. In my junior high years, I was a fan of Nancy Sinatra, I bought all her albums. If that were my car, I would have had those in the trunk, too. 😀
An additional thought comes to mind. That picture showes Nancy walking to a 57 Thunderbird with the Firebird in the garage in the background. I wonder if the T-bird was he dad's.

GM had to stay competitive after FORD produced the 1964 1/2 Mustang! I'm ASSuming the term "Pony Car" was connected to the Mustangs? I liked the Bird better than their Camaro, but the 1968 Shelby KR500 conv. is my ALL-TIME FAV car!
