All, keep in mind this is the FIRST of TWO top 10 horror 2023 lists. So I've saved a few choice cuts for the 2nd list.
I agree Godzilla minus one is the best movie ever but what about when EVIL lurks?
would definitely recommend 'When Evil Lurks' from earlier this year.
Agreed. Number one of the year imo
I reviewed it. It will be on the next list.
Is there a English version?
When evil lurks in English
My favorite is When Evil Lurks for sure! One of the best horror films in a few years, in my opinion. Hard to watch, horrifying, creative, well acted. Its like Hereditary or The Silence of The Lambs or Martyrs. A perfect film, but very hard to watch and not "fun" at all. I dont know if I want to watch it again, but it is a true horror film.
Thanksgiving is without a doubt my number one of the year. It’s a great time to be a slasher fan.
Yes it is!
My Top 10 Horror Movies of 2023:

@@commentmaster2597 You suck!
My top favorite horror movies of 2023 in no particular order:
1. Evil Dead Rise
2. Five Nights at Freddy's
3. Cobweb
4. Totally Killer
5. Sick
6. Redfield
1. Infinity pool 2. Saw x 3. Thanksgiving 4. Scream 6
I just can't take Scream VI seriously.
Very nice list. Interesting as always how movies like these can have varying impacts on people.
Here are mine:
1. Talk to Me
2. Godzilla Minus One
3. Beau is Afraid
4. Evil Dead Rise
5. Thanksgiving
6. Infinity Pool
7. Dracula: Voyage of the Demeter
8. Cocaine Bear
9. Renfield
10. The Boogeyman
Honorable mentions:
M3GAN
Saw X
Scream VI
Cocaine Bear was more of a comedy though
Yeah, but it has horror enough to classify.
Interesting you didn’t include the big box office hits. No M3gan, Scream, Saw, Exorcist, Freddy’s, etc. You know horror had a great year in this case. But for me;
1. Scream 6 - I just love the Sam character. So badass.
2. M3gan - Usually don’t like killer dolls but damn if they didn’t make this doll creepy, funny, witty and menacing all at once. Outstanding.
Regarding M3gan, I had a very different take…to me, though it was fairly enjoyable, it was cheesy and hard to take seriously, and really not much in terms of scares. For these reasons, I’d have trouble putting it on any “top of the year” lists…
Ok. I’m not sure why you felt the need to tell me this or that I would even care what you think about it. I obviously liked the movie so you saying you have a different take is suppose to interest me? If you want the world to know your feelings on the movie then create your own comment.
@@drewhaase4590 lol… You see this is called social media, when you post a comment on something, you can expect that sometimes people will post a comment in response to your comment, that’s kind of how it works
Lol. I get that it’s social media but what is the purpose of telling someone that you don’t like what he/she likes? Why would you think they care? I get wanting to express yourself but responding to an opinion by saying my opinion is different and thinking the other person is interested is weird to me. I never feel the need to tell someone else that I dislike something they like. Maybe I’m weird that way but if someone likes something then why would they care if I don’t so I don’t understand the point in telling them. If I want to share my opinion with everyone then I would create my comment. But since you bring this up, what is your point of telling me you don’t like what I like?
Wasn't a fan of 3 of those at all.
Can you believe NOES will be 40 next year?
Yes I Can because I saw it in Bitburg Germany 6 months before it was released in US.I had joined the Army at age 18 and had a wknd pass.Great Film
When evil lurks man. I think that’s my number one
3. El Conde, 2. When Evil Lurks, 1. Talk to Me
I prefer the horror classics of the 60’s and 70’s
When Evil Lurks, boom!
1. Evil Dead Rise
2. Thanksgiving
3. Cobweb
4. Totally Killer
5. Saw X
6.The Boogeyman
7. Scream 6
I am surprised you didn't have "When evil Lurks" on your list.
It’ll be in part 2.
Nice top 10; looking forward to more of your lists. I haven’t heard of Significant Other so I will check that out!
Definitely do! You won’t regret it.
Love Top 10s my favorite of your vids besides reviews yes don’t be afraid to redo your old lists! Happy holidays Lee
Thanks brother. Happy holidays!
Awesome stuff Lee and I love your shirt man!!
Thank you!
Happy Holiday’s Lee! Always enjoy your top 10’s
Thank you!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews You’re welcome
Hey Lee, I think my favorite horror movie was Saw X
The first saw is the only other Saw movie I love in the franchise and WAS one of 3 I thought was great
Still Saw X was a movie I anticipated and waited almost a month for.
I was blown away at how amazing I thought the movie was and how much I loved seeing John Kramer be sympathetic
Cecilia is an Amazing villain and I loved hearing Zepp X at the end letting me know Karma got her
The only thing I didn’t like was her ambiguous fate. I hope she returns for Saw XI in 9 months so we can see her be such a great villain
Saw X was really solid.
I agree. I'm a Saw fan so I'm somewhat biased. However, the realist in me knows that, overall, this franchise has had so many inferior sequels. That said, Saw X is in my list as a top 3, at least. a horror film and a Saw film. I love the human aspect of Jigsaw/John Kramer. I wrote my very first official movie review because of Saw X. The fact that John Kramer/Jigsaw has met his match with the evil Cecelia! Ican't wait for Saw XI.
That said, you can't argue with Sick and Thanksgiving.
@@darko7743 Nice to see how Saw X met it’s fans
Judging from Lee, I wouldn’t mind to watch Thanksgiving. I would watch a lot more movies if I had a car
Talk to me was the surprise hit of 2023 for me.... Ended up splurging and getting the collectors Steelbook set with replica hand (that you write in yourself) 😊 🤝🏻
Nice!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews yeah it's pretty cool... Like a ouja board party piece type thing.... Doin a live stream on Sunday and getting the UA-cam community involved, viewers can suggest names to write
Great list my dude! Agree with a lot of those. But I was surprised, no Evil Lurks??
I saved a few choice cuts for part II.
Thanksgiving was one of my favourites along with when evil lurks
Hey Lee. Godzilla Minus One definitely belongs on a horror list. It’s one of those movies like Jaws that doesn’t fit comfortably into just one genre but like Jaws the horror must be celebrated
I agree. I feel happy that it’s on here.
Great list Lee. Always love your videos.
You rock!
Awesome Top 10
Mr. Lee
Thanks Lee for inspiring me to also insert Godzilla Minus One into my top horror list. Yes it was a drama mostly, but the scenes with Godzilla were definitely terrifying.
My top list (Pending a few more movies to catch up on)
1. Godzilla Minus one
2. Influencer
3. Birth/Rebirth
4. Totally Killer
5. Thanksgiving
6. Scream VI
7. Sorry for the Demon
8. When Evil Lurks
9. Talk to Me
10. Evil Dead Rise
HM: M3gan, The Pale Blue Eye, Cocaine Bear, Huesera the Bone Woman
Yeah Godzilla was his most ruthless in G-1.
Totally Killer really stood out for me this year, I just really enjoyed that movie. If you were born during the right era, it was both clever and nostalgic. And Shipka in the lead role was just perfect.
Yep. I was a teen in the 80s, so I related to it heavily.
Nice list
My top 10 Horror movies of 2023! And.. I really look forward to these Lee :) Thanks 4 doing them brother
My top 3 are Thanksgiving, when evil lurks and talk to me
Decent year for horror. Not nearly as good as last year. But here's top 5 I loved so much. Especially the first one, gave classic 80s vibe.
1. Thanksgiving
2. Saw X
3. Evil Dead Rise
4. Megan (fun theater experience)
5. Five Nights At Freddy
Great list!
Great list.
Dark Harvest was AMAZING, and watched it thanks to your channel!! Much thanks!!
Awesome Karla!
Cant wait to get to watch all of these videos!!!!!!
Thank you!!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews question for you....where would I be able to watch Never Hike Alone 2?
Significant Other was such a unique movie lol
Good list as always, Lee. Congrats on another year of UA-cam! Looking forward to 2024 horror
Thank you Tony! I'm still grinding haha.
Great ranking! And video! I’ve seen most of these! Thanksgiving my favorite of the year for sure! But love you paying respect to, Renfield, Totally Killer, & Sick! Feel like those are underrated movies in general for the year!
Knock at Cabin solid too!
Thank you!
Great list. I definitely share a few on there in my top 10.
Thank you Lisa!
Dacre Stoker, executive of Bram Stoker's estate and a descendant of his, gives a lot of lectures on vampire lore and and such, and he absolutely loved The Last Voyage of the Demeter movie (which is chapter 7 of Dracula if you want to read it).
What up Lee!!!
Great list and work, honestly 2023 to me has been a rough year for horror movies, there's wasn't a lot that I loved or thought was phenomenal but there was enough I enjoyed this year for me to make my top 10
Honorable Mentions:
Thanksgiving
5 Night's At Freddy's
When Evil Lurks
10. The Pope's Exorcist
9. Sick
8. Infinity Pool
7. No One Will Save You
6. Totally Killer
5. Scream 6
4. Evil Dead: Rise
3. CobWeb (Seriously underrated, please anyone that hasn't seen it watch it)
Now these top 2 are the only ones I can say that I loved, everything else was either decent or I really enjoy
2. Saw X (This is what I call a surprise, I had no faith or interest in this and damn was it good)
1. Talk to Me (not only my favorite horror movie of the year maybe my favorite of the decade)
Honestly I have 13 more solid movies for part 2.
I saw around 60 new horror films this year and I’ve seen a lot of shit haha. But overall I agree, it’s been a solid year. Though I feel like this is the first year that my list looks completely different to yours haha. Some great choices on yours though, I think mine goes ( I haven’t seen Godzilla yet)
1. Saw X - this isn’t franchise love bias 😂 but I am extremely happy that not only did I like the new saw film, Jigsaw is back on top for me. Hope it’s the same for Saw XI ❤
2. Pearl - I am cheating a bit. It got a release in UK cinemas this year and even though I saw it last year. I’m counting it again. Just to good not too
3. Evil dead rise
4. Scream 6
5. Hell house origins LLC - scariest film of the year ! And I had low expectations so was surprised
6. Thanksgiving
7. The last voyage of the Demeter - still not out over here but I’ve bought a blu ray from overseas. Absolutely loved it!
8. Knock at the Cabin
9. Malum - again had to buy a blu ray from overseas. Loved last shift and this one is slightly better for me.
10. VHS 85
Honourable mentions - Megan, Cobweb and Talk to me.
Really solid list Charlotte!
Godzilla/Kaiju stuff is Horror, going all the way back to the classic black & white monster movies which Godzilla is a classic monster. Solid list! We actually have alot of the same picks
Nice!
i havnt had a chance to see "Sick"...will have to check it out. I really wanted to like "Evil Dead Rise", but i couldnt get into the characters. I just didnt find them interesting, and i really didnt care for the storyline. I will have to give it a second look. Your top 3 was spot on, i loved all 3 of them. I probably would have added "It's a Wonderful Knife" to the list. Creature features are definitely in the horror genre...in my opinion. Cant wait for the next list
Thanks for watching Mark!
Since you love character-driven stories, thought I'd mention one of my fav 2023 movies. It's a thriller called Unseen and it's about two Japanese women (visually the movie resembles anime a bit) who are going through a lot and want to help each other out so that they can move to Jacksonville, FL and live by the sunny, cheery beaches.
I'll look it up. Thanks!
My personal opinion is that godzilla minus one isn't a horror but I've never classed the Hollywood versions as horror either
My personal rule is anything that is a creature feature, I file under horror.
I loved Thanksgiving and Dark Harvest!
Me too!
My Top favorite Video Game adaptions of 2023
1. Twisted Metal
2. The Last of Us
3. Super Mario
4. Five Nights at Freddy's
5. Grans Trismo
( Watching Tomorrow)
I was surprised you didn’t have When Evil Lurks, maybe it will be on another list. Love your channel.
It'll be on part II.
Honestly,I dont watch new horror films unless something is really different or catches my eye.Im stuck on older horror movies but significant other and thanksgiving seem interesting enough to check them out.
I'm constantly chasing new horror. There's a lot of great ones out there.

@@DrumdumsMovieReviews Thank you so much ♥️🔥
It took me about 4½ months to do the list. Lot of them were based on my interest what I enjoyed the most and what I did not want to watch them again.
Killer list Lee!
Mine would be:
1. Godzilla Minus One
2. Evil Dead Rise
3. Infinity Pool
4. Talk To Me
5. Thanksgiving
6. Saw X
7. Cobweb
8. Last Voyage of the Demeter
9. No One Will Save You
10. Cocaine Bear
Love your list!
Great list!! We have similar tastes! Last voyage of the Demeter, renfield, when evil lurks were also on my top 10
Nice!
I'll give my top 5.
5. The boogeyman
4. Last voyage of the demeter
3. Saw X
2. Scream 6
1. Cobweb
Looks like a few more movies I need to check out!
Enjoy!
The Last Voyage of the Demeter was also a Dracula movie this year too
Yep. It actually was on the list. 4a.
I do consider creature features/kaiju as horror movies.
Oh me too.
I'm glad you included Dark Harvest. I just watched it last week. Total 80's vibe with a horror movie set in the 60's? I swear if I had seen this on VHS I wouldn't have guessed it was a 2024 movie. Great stuff. Good call on Thanksgiving. Another total 80's vibe. Get rid of the cel phones and it could be 1981. and the Black Friday massacre was the best bonus ever. I also wanna say that even though I miss Eli Roth's cameo the movie did its best to stay true to the Grindhouse fake trailer. Godzilla Minus One is on my to view list. Oooh I hope Cobweb makes your top 10 part two? That was my favorite of the year.
Yeah Dark Harvest had really great vibes.
As for Godzilla Minus One if it is labeled a horror on Letterboxd then it is a horror and it is labeled a horror there
My Top Ten
1. When Evil Lurks
2. Cobweb
3. Talk To Me
4. Thanksgiving
5. Evil Dead Rise
6. Saw X
7. Last Voyage Of The Demeter
8. Dark Harvest
9. VHS 85
10. The Popes Exorcist
Great list! I still need to check out VHS 85.
I love that you also call it the Gravitron 👍
Haha yep. Grew up with that ride.
When evil lurks was brutal as fuck !
Totally killer was my favorite horror movie of the year
Loved TK!
I couldn't remember how much I liked "Sick" until I went through my rotten tomatoes ratings just now. Apparently it was my favorite horror movie of the year. I'm pretty excited to eventually see Thanksgiving and Godzilla though. I suspect both of them have the potential to throw out a mario kart blue shell on the last lap.
Yeah it's a fun one.
Godzilla Minus One
Evil Dead Rise
The Last Voyage of the Demeter
Exorcist Believer
The Nun II
Saw X
The Pope’s Exorcist
That is all I remember king this year.
Wouldn’t Godzilla, no one will save you, and significant other be categorized as science-fiction?
I classify them as thrillers
I haven't watched a lot of movies from 2023. I've only watched 33 2023 movies. My top 10 horror movies from 2023 that I've seen are
1. Talk to Me
2. Saw X
3. Scream VI
4. Suitable Flesh
5. Evil Dead Rise
6. Infinity Pool
7. The Passenger
8. The Wrath of Becky
9. Candy Land
10. M3GAN
Two honorable mentions are Totally Killer and Sick.
Totally Killer! Was AMAZING!
Yes!
Lots of these movies I still need to watch more likely this week totally killer I enjoy hoping for a sequel for it
Totally Killer is so damn fun.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews yeah
I actually just watched five nights at Freddy's last night
Would have thought Cobweb would have made the list!
It'll be on part II.
Nevermind. While your next video didn't really have a ton of movies I really liked. I do agree with your reasoning.
Thank you for watching!
Great list! My list is...
1. The Nun 2
2. Thanksgiving
3. M3gan
4. Cobweb
5. Hell House LLC the Carmichael Manor
6. Evil Dead Rise
7. The Boogeyman
8. Suitable Flesh
9. Moon Garden
10. Slotherhouse
This year was kind of a blur for me..I only saw a handful of movies at the cinema. There's a lot of horror I may need to catch up on into 2024, so I'll just say as biggest surprise of the year was The Boogeyman and Cobweb.
Awesome video Lee. I always love your videos and thoughts. 1. When Evil Lurks 2. Hell House Origins LLC: The Carmichael Manor 3. Talk To Me 4. Dark Harvest 5. Evil Dead Rise 6. Thanksgiving 7. Last Voyage of the Demeter 8. Sick 9. Saw X 10. Cobweb
I really do not care for comedy in general but especially horror comedy, so none of that for me. I really enjoyed No One Will Save You right up until the conclusion. For me it just made no sense at all. I fully understood what was happening, which is why it made no sense for me. But no spoilers. As much as i did like Godzilla Minus One, as a life long Godzilla addict and lover, it was good, but i wanted more Godzilla. I’ll be honest, all of us that went, seven of us, said the same thing, we could have done with less people. I cared, but i didn’t care. The scenes with Godzilla were great. But too many people for me. Unpopular opinion but i don’t care. Im there one hundred and ten percent for only Godzilla and the other monsters. Im also not dumping on your picks Lee, just giving explanation for why some highly thought of movies were not on mine. Awesome video and list. Just finished your second list video as well. Also, Two Witches is absolutely fantastic. I saw it shortly after it came out.
Great list! I need to check out Hell House. I haven't seen any of those movies.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews i would love to see some or a video from you on them. The directors cut of the first Hell House LLC is great. Part two and three are not for everyone, i enjoy them but most don’t. The new one is a sequel but gives a lot of prequel information as well. Very well done story, acting. I loved it.
Talk to me is amazing really made me so uneasy like hereditary. That one and saw X and evil dead rise so much fun. I'm so pumped for next year saw 11 is coming I'm certain Cecilia will want revenge on John maybe she puts Amanda in a trap she somehow designs. I can see Amanda killing her and really losing her shit because saw 3 she's spiraling and ends up getting herself killed. Terrifier 3 is already promising cast returning Chris Jericho and it picks up where it left off at the mid credit scene. We thought this year was fantastic for horror it's gonna get better plus by next year we will have Halloween news for sure
So looking forward to Terrifier 3!
great list. i enjoyed evil dead rise very much, loved totally killer and renfield. still need to see dark harvest, talk to me, sick, significant other and thanksgiving. I saw movie recently on shudder called i am not a serial killer had christopher lloyd and has a twist that i didnt see coming. its a b movie but pretty solid
What no Exorcist Believer?! Solid list Lee! I loved Godzilla Minus One.
My top 3:
1. Talk to Me
2. Evil Dead Rise
3. When Evil Lurks
Hell no haha!
It's been an insane movie watching year for me this year I'm at 122 horror movies for this year with 47 movies on my top list right now though a few will be removed once I work on real list. Excluding the 2022 movies that came out this year like M3gan and Talk To Me
Damn nice work Aaron!
My top 5 are:
5. Thanksgiving
4. Renfield
3.Sick
2.The last voyage of the Demeter
1. Evil Dead: Rise
Is this live?
Memorex.
Great list Lee 👍
I’ve still got cobweb, Thanksgiving , totally killer and Godzilla minus one to watch but here’s my current list
1: TALK TO ME
2: SCREAM VI
3: EVIL DEAD RISE
4: INFINITY POOL
5: THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER
6: NO ON WILL SAVE YOU
7: THE WRATH OF BECKY
8: MALUM
9: RENFIELD
10:KNOCK AT THE CABIN
Great list!
Yesssss Godzilla minus one was amazing.
Really enjoyed Demeter
Can you do your top 10 Christmas movies list not horror movies but Christmas movies in general.
Edit this also means the Rankin/Bass Production animated specials
I did a non horror Christmas list video back in 2015. I might need to do an updated one.
Totally Killer!!!!! Totally deserving on this list!!! Scream 6 and Sick are also great this year.
Great list, Lee! There's some on here I still need to check out. My top two were Thanksgiving & Talk To Me which I saw at the Drive-In, it was awesome! I loved Godzilla as well I saw it a week after seeing Godzilla 2000 at the Cinemark. I didn't even think about it as horror lol. I wasn't a fan of Evil Dead Rise. I like the elevator scene and when they listen to the records but I was really disappointed otherwise. I thought the characters weren't interesting or fun, and their family drama was uninteresting, the location was stale as was the directing. The only creative shots were shots where he tries to ape Raimi's style, and badly. Some of the call backs made no sense. The movie had a serious tone but they did the eyeball gag from part 2. Wtf? The practical effects were ruined by bad cgi, and the third act had me rolling my eyes, it all fell apart for me when they formed like Voltron. That monster was silly in a bad way. Then there's this whole side plot about being pregnant and not wanting it then wanting it. It was a lame character arc for an Evil Dead movie. The first 2 acts were kinda bland but act 3 just fell apart from me. I'm fascinated by so many people liking this movie. I've always wanted to talk to someone who likes it and pick their brains. In a fun, casual covo way, not some heated debate or anything. I love hearing differing opinions on movies and the explanation behind them. It's good stuff. Anyway, hope you are well, Lee, have a good one!
Yeah I was on the line with including Godzilla in horror. Didn't feel like it.
Whew for the first time in a while I stayed (somewhat) caught up with new releases this year. I think I've seen enough to make a top 10 in the comments for the first time 😂
So here goes
1. Saw X. I've come to the conclusion that you're more likely to care about the Saw franchise if you're of a certain age, talking probably millennial. Saw was my franchise growing up and I enjoy nearly all of them but X was easily the strongest entry since 3 and I my anticipation was somewhat low too because with Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith coming back I really didn't know what to expect. Call me happy and pleasantly surprised.
2. Thanksgiving. This went straight to the top of my most anticipated horror as soon as it was announced and it didn't disappoint. Great mix of old and new slashers.
3. Skinamarink. The years most polarizing horror release? Definitely lol. I get why people hate it. It's not for everyone but it appealed to me
4.Evil Dead Rise. Evil Dead never disappoints
5. Scream VI. I thought this was a big improvement over 5. It's unfortunate that this might be the last great Scream movie
6. Totally Killer. Damn fun. Watch it with The Final Girls
7. Renfield. Another Damn fun one. It's a shame it bombed
8. Cobweb. Put this in best movies you may have missed. Good pick for the Halloween season
9. M3GAN. Better than I thought it'd be. Nice to have a new icon. It kinds reminded me why the Childs Play reboot might actually be appreciated if it wasn't called Childs Play
10. No One Will Save You. I'll admit I was a little underwhelmed by this but over all it was solid AF.
That's actually just about everything I actually saw this year except for Cocaine Bear which I was hyped for and it still managed to disappoint lol.
Definitely got a few movies I still need to catch this year
Great list!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews thanks Lee!
P.S. Forgot to add that waiting to watch M3 GAN unrated was a good call. I have yet to see the PG-13 cut lol
Curious to see what your top worst horror movies for 2023
That'll be a fun one.
Winnie the Pooh, blood and honey would be right up there
Winnie the Pooh, blood and honey would be right up there
I got more of a Nosferatu kinda thing when I was watching the last voyage of the Demeter just the way he started looking seemed more like Nosferatu than Dracula which either way it was still a great movie to me
I'm angry that no one has really talked about Significant Other! It's so damn good!
Watch your mouth!
Thank you Grace! Finally someone can testify to the awesomeness that is this movie!
Or When evil lurks? 😮
Couldn't agree more about Godzilla Minus One. Amazing film. It's atop my favorite movie of the year list amongst all films.
I'd have Talk to Me and When Evil Lurks vying for my second and third spots of the year in a horror-only list.
Yes When Evil Lurks is great.
Last Voyage of the Demeter is the other dracula movie you were trying to think of
Yep. Loved that one.
I know you said there’s anther list coming, but I’m just waiting for the When Evil Lurks die hards to come for you! I though it was good not great, personally…
Oh they're coming haha. But yeah I liked it quite a bit, but didn't think it was the best of the year.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews I think with a sharper story (I was driven a bit crazy by the main guy’s inability to listen to other people instead of always just doing the wrong thing), it could have been GREAT.
Hey everybody!!!
Not a GREAT year for me... I saw lots of stuff and I can barely fill out my Top 10 with above average movies.
1. Talk to Me
2. When Evil Lurks
3. Where the Devil Roams
4. Infinity Pool
4. Evil Dead Rise
5. No One will Save You
6. Birth/Rebirth
.... rest is just average. Hope to catch one or two more before dec 31st.
I have at least 25 solid horror movies for this year.
The nun 2 was a big surprise as I was very disappointed with the first one!
Yes!
Remember everybody this is LEE's movie list... not ya'lls. He can put anything he wants in his own list. LOL 😊
Haha truth!
Yes but come on not having Pet Sematary in the top horrors of the year list
