Been seeing people saying the first one is overrated now and that’s just bullshit. This movie was always scary even in 2008 & still is today. It’s just dreadful, it’s a cold and mean mean film. rewatching the first one and just realizing how much the director stretched out the tension. How minimalist and realistic he went w it. No music ques for jump scares, it’s just shown as is. The cinematography and soundtrack (old Merle haggard records playing & skipping). Also I like that it’s not two teeny boppers in a thriving relationship -It’s a couple in their 30’s going thru it at first. Strangers 2008 is bleak in the best way possible.
Never enjoyed it. Found it pretty dull and the suicidal nature of the leads really turned me off. The film managed to make me annoyed at Liv Tyler and that is saying something! The sequel was better but still agressively mid at best.

It's a pointless movie for sure, but I wouldn't call it bad. It's very competent, actors are serviceable, the film stands on its own even though it does nothing original, etc. However, as someone who hadn't seen the original in theaters, my theatrical experience was wild. It was full of teenagers and they were shouting and laughing at the protagonists the whole time. If this movie came out in the 70s, people would be truly disturbed, but in the modern day, audiences have become very unforgiving toward characters. I don't know if it's a positive change or not. But this is one of the loudest audience reactions I've ever experienced and I've seen many movies.
Really? Have you never watched this channel. He’s not as bad as power level 9000 super contrarian Cody Leach, but it’s pretty regular. This movie has been getting mixed reviews. Many positive, but a fair amount of negative. Looking forward to it and the sequels before I make any claims
So they officially F'd up The Strangers...Goddammit! The OG was one of my favorite horror movies. It pisses me off that they decided to revisit it & fell so short that they basically gave a middle finger to the original.
Took me 3 sittings to get through the whole thing. Movie is absolute trash. The sound design was terrible, The acting was mediocre at best, The story could not have been more generic, same with all the horror tropes that were just used poorly like the small quaint town that you feel has something off about it. It was way to on the nose and in your face. There was no sense of urgency, they just go from room to room in the house, crawl space, barn. The guy has a shotgun but only manages to kill the homeowner who just randomly shows up in the middle of the night without returning her call at the exact time they are being hunted.. All this bullshit for there to be 0 pay off whatsoever. The final kill scene has no tension and was just as boring as the rest of the movie. Just to shit on the top of this soft serve shit sandwich they zoom into her face and then cut to her in the hospital with "To be continued" bitch I didn't want it to continue 5 minutes in..

But if you hear enough bad things about a movie from reviewers you love, trust, and whose opinions usually align with your own-and you’re tired of remakes, retreads, reboots, etc.-is it ever OK in those scenarios to hope that a movie fails, so that perhaps further entries don’t get made? Because I think that’s where I am with this movie and many franchises that fit this scenario! Edit: I was just thinking, this might be a good topic for one of your livestreams!

imo they should of work on One movie instead of three. Put the budget for the 3 parts into One and made a Great third movie either being a sequel to Prey at night or the prequel to The Strangers. But as a horror fan I can't get enough horror :D Make sure u go cinema over the weekend to watch this
Ends was BAD. Worst Halloween movie EVER imo. This is what happens when they want to rush and finish a trilogy fast instead of spreading it out over years..
I liked prey at night but not the ending. Loved that pool scene and it had scary moments. The 1st ending was terrifying because it could really happen and left such a dread hopelessness.

Trying to give this group of killers a backstory and a rhyme or reason behind what they're doing completely takes away from what the original movie and even the sequel Prey at Night did... It's like Yoda I hope you never gets an explanation or a species name or a backstory that's what makes him so cool. That's also what made The Strangers pretty awesome. You didn't know anything about them and they pretty much seem like regular people that just decided to go out and do this because they could. Their mystery is what made them scary.
They could have done a lot more to subvert our expectations. They could have killed off some of the Strangers, thereby revealing there are more than three people wearing these masks. Revealing that they keep some of their victims captive would totally make sense for killers who like to torture and play mind games. Introducing non strangers characters who are in on it could have expanded the lore while not necessarily explaining their motives and could be done without revealing the identities of the main antagonists. I wouldn't expect them to create enough intrigue to last 3 movies but they could definitely do more to expand the lore or at the very least alter the setting.
I like the first Strangers movie but didn’t like The Strangers Prey At Night. I was curious about this new film because I like Renny Harlin as a director but if it’s as bad as Exorcist The Beginning I have no interest

Why did they do this? I’m pissed off, the original movie from 2008 was great and did not need to be re-made. If somehow a mediocre movie can benefit from being re-made to improve things then I’m all about it, but to take a really effective, strong thriller and then tarnish its reputation by producing an inferior remake. Damn it! No go, folks, this is not how you do it. This garbage should have been dumped on a streaming service.

Second one is good. The first one intentionally pays homage to 70s home invasion movies, the second one pays homage to 80s slashers. It’s definitely worth it. Second one is a lot more “fun” than the first

Think it's quite clear where they are going for part 2 and 3.... In the original I believe The Strangers were the killers , however I think now the strangers are actually the young couple entering an odd town where everybody looks at them.... I think the biggest clue to this is when pin up girl says at the end " why are you doing this to us , and she replies because you are here ", where as in the original pin up girl says " because you are home ".
I’m so disappointed, I will still see it through but what a great idea/concept with the villains and the masks are iconic yet they put this film out, so annoying x

thank god independent film makers exist. i miss going to the movie theater alot, but i am done with the reboots and repeats. i am hoping i can find more independent films in certain theaters in my area soon.

The movie wasn't as bad as everybody and their mother is making it to be. Of all the horror movies that came out so far this year, this is the one we're saying is the worst? 🤣. It's a flawed movie, but I had fun with it and looking forward to Chapter 2 and 3.

It was so bad...such a lifeless remake reboot...Zero gore. 4 jump scares...could've been PG13...i feel like i just flushed 25 dollars down the toilet...Prey At Night blows this film away. And even that film was just okay to me...this film was kinda cool, nice visuals, bag head looked cool...but the cheap rip off of the 2008 film just made me not enjoy it...Danielle Harris should've been the final girl in this film. That would be fitting. Elm street 4 the dream master is GREAT.

I went In with very low expectations. And i came out some enjoyment. I actually didn’t mind it. It had some suspense built up. The acting especially his was very cw. But yeah not dog shit like I thought it would be. 5/10

I saw this movie two days ago and i gotta say, the build up had me excited..... but my God this one was trash. It definitely borrowed alot from the 2008 version but the execution of this film was bad. I would say the only great scenes in this movie was all the way until the couple settled in the house.
Very disappointing waste of time same story, same exact events, worse acting, worst dialogue. Since the remainder have already been made I wouldn't be surprised if they went straight to streaming.
I just saw it today and it wasn't even scary and like no gore or anything crazy it easily could of been rated PG -13 and Prey at Night Was Way Better ‼️
I'm a fan of the original two Strangers films, but this was a major disappointment. Thankfully, I didn't see it in theaters, because I almost assumed this was a prequel until I watched the film and saw modern technology which is when I knew this was a remake set in modern times which is creatively lazy in my opinion. An actual prequel with The Man in the Mask and Pin-Up girl as teenagers terrorizing their first family in the 1980s or 1990s would've been way more interesting. Then by the end, you learn that the family's young daughter is spared and taken in by the couple and will go on to become "Dollface" also revealing that the Strangers are not actually related. Just came up with these ideas in 5 minutes, and yet I bet it took months for them to plan the remake.
Yeah between them having the two girls wear hats so you can't tell them apart really and calling The Man in The Mask "scarecrow" now I knew this was going to be bad going in. I don't like how they made him a stereotypical hulking Jason type character either That's what made them so scary in the first place while they were pretty much just normal people that decided to put on masks and go commit murder.
Not mention all scarecrow did was run around and creep around 😂 very lifeless and not much use for their Jason type character...but hey, he did look exactly like Jason here, which was cool i guess hahah

Too bad about this movie. I was hoping it would be fun. Prey at Night is my favorite of the first two movies. The soundtrack and Bailee Madison’s performance were great! The original Strangers to me feels like Halloween and the Manson murders had a baby, if that makes sense. It’s a great film too.
I a huge fan of the franchise so I went to the first showing and after I realized it a 100% remake I just had fun with it. You are right about a 1 trick pony but I am excited to see where the next 2 movies go. Thx Lee
The trailer for this gave too much away, and it all looked like a boring retread. Will give it a miss. Always got some props for Renny though as he made Nightmare 4, Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and Lost Kiss Goodnight - that's a great night in right there!

Just rewatched it last night and the '08 Strangers is a classic. So minimal, so gritty, so great! Chapter 1? Not so much... at all.

Think it's quite clear where they are going for part 2 and 3.... In the original I believe The Strangers were the killers , however I think now the strangers are actually the young couple entering an odd town where everybody looks at them.... I think the biggest clue to this is when pin up girl says at the end " why are you doing this to us , and she replies because you are here ", where as in the original pin up girl says " because you are home ".
Except Pin-Up Girl didn’t say “Because you were Home” that was Dollface’s line.

The movie wasn't as bad as everybody and their mother is making it to be. Of all the horror movies that came out so far this year, this is the one we're saying is the worst? 🤣. It's a flawed movie, but I had fun with it and looking forward to Chapter 2 and 3.

It was so bad...such a lifeless remake reboot...Zero gore. 4 jump scares...could've been PG13...i feel like i just flushed 25 dollars down the toilet...Prey At Night blows this film away. And even that film was just okay to me...this film was kinda cool, nice visuals, bag head looked cool...but the cheap rip off of the 2008 film just made me not enjoy it...Danielle Harris should've been the final girl in this film. That would be fitting. Elm street 4 the dream master is GREAT.

Will they ever make more original scary as hell movies again? Have we seen the peak of it all? I love the first movie. To me if your doing a remake you better kill it. This movie is such a simple premise to begin with. A couple at a house in the middle of nowhere being harassed and stalked randomly by "strangers".

I went In with very low expectations. And i came out some enjoyment. I actually didn’t mind it. It had some suspense built up. The acting especially his was very cw. But yeah not dog shit like I thought it would be. 5/10

I saw this movie two days ago and i gotta say, the build up had me excited..... but my God this one was trash. It definitely borrowed alot from the 2008 version but the execution of this film was bad. I would say the only great scenes in this movie was all the way until the couple settled in the house.

I'm a fan of the original two Strangers films, but this was a major disappointment. Thankfully, I didn't see it in theaters, because I almost assumed this was a prequel until I watched the film and saw modern technology which is when I knew this was a remake set in modern times which is creatively lazy in my opinion. An actual prequel with The Man in the Mask and Pin-Up girl as teenagers terrorizing their first family in the 1980s or 1990s would've been way more interesting. Then by the end, you learn that the family's young daughter is spared and taken in by the couple and will go on to become "Dollface" also revealing that the Strangers are not actually related. Just came up with these ideas in 5 minutes, and yet I bet it took months for them to plan the remake.

Yeah between them having the two girls wear hats so you can't tell them apart really and calling The Man in The Mask "scarecrow" now I knew this was going to be bad going in. I don't like how they made him a stereotypical hulking Jason type character either That's what made them so scary in the first place while they were pretty much just normal people that decided to put on masks and go commit murder.
Not mention all scarecrow did was run around and creep around 😂 very lifeless and not much use for their Jason type character...but hey, he did look exactly like Jason here, which was cool i guess hahah

Too bad about this movie. I was hoping it would be fun. Prey at Night is my favorite of the first two movies. The soundtrack and Bailee Madison’s performance were great! The original Strangers to me feels like Halloween and the Manson murders had a baby, if that makes sense. It’s a great film too.

The trailer for this gave too much away, and it all looked like a boring retread. Will give it a miss. Always got some props for Renny though as he made Nightmare 4, Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and Lost Kiss Goodnight - that's a great night in right there!
