I have been a Junior Advisor for 14 years. There are so many distractions out there for young people to stray. It is our responsibility to build a strong foundation for these kids. The Junior program has everything that a young person needs, Teamwork, Leadership, Community Service, Direction, and most of all, FUN. This is a Great Video !!!!!!!!!!
Not bad. I loved my time as a junior. it really prepares you for the academy. I came to find out that both my level I and II instructors started out as juniors.
Dude, it's great! I'm 16 and just joined a month ago. trust me, I'm sure you'll like it. If you show you're worth, they wont care if you're American or not. You can quit, but I don't think I ever will.
I've been wanting to be a junior for about a year, and last Thursday my parents finally let me join, I turned in my app, and was voted in as a probationary member. I love it already, and I've done one training with them. Here's what I recommend though..... pick a company that has a junior program, ask if you can attend a training or meeting so you can see what goes on there. If you like it, then apply. You won't regret it! I wish you luck! :)
I joined the Exploring program about 8 months ago. For us you have to be 14 and you have to have passed 8th grade. You can participate during calls at different levels depending on what courses you have taken and can join the company at age 18. It's really fun and I help my bro when he does his truck checks and we go out on the pumper :)
I was Junior for 4 years till i moved up in rank it is so hard to recruit new Juniors most teens don't think its cool or it boring this video is amazing
most states have their child labor laws extend to firefighting..so most states are 14 years old. I joined when i was 14, im 16 now and been taking basic FF1 classes and love every moment of it
It's been 7 months since I joined. They have been the BEST 7 months of my life. I have gotten the chance to go to a junior Fire academy where we did car fires, plane fires, rescue ops, EMS ops, you name it, we did it. Over the summer, I got to ride on my first medical call, and fire call. In a week, I get voted off probation. What state do you live in?
Where im from we dont have junior or explorer which i wish we would instead my old man brings me to training and fire classes so im at the same skill s a junior but im only 15
Jeremy Lang - We have about two dozen programs in Washington State! You can find a full list by entering the state (or your zip code, to find closer programs) at juniors.nvfc.org/junior.
Patrick Hausler and Madison Cunningham - You can search for a department within 50 miles of your zip code by using the tool on the right side of the page at juniors.nvfc.org/junior. Just put your zip code in the box where it says 'search for programs.' You can then click on the name of departments and it will take you to a page of information, including age ranges and contact information for the local station.
Thank you for your interest! Junior firefighter programs are a great way to learn life skills such as teamwork, responsibility, leadership, community service, and more. You'll also learn how to handle emergencies and be helping your local fire department and community. Contact your local fire department to see if they have an existing junior firefighter program or would be willing to start one. You can also search for a local program at www.makemeafirefighter.org. Good luck!
The next National Junior Firefighter Academy will be held at the Scott Safety headquarters in Monroe, NC, on November 14, 2015. This is a free training event for junior firefighters and program advisors. Registration is now open! ow.ly/TdcS8
Fire is not something to play with. When your old enough to become a junior firefighter or any type of firefighter. Just a piece of advice if they ask you why you want to do this job dont tell them because you like to play with fire that will automatically affect you from getting on.
Equipment for junior firefighters varies by department. Find a local program at www.nvfc.org/juniors and check with them for details about the program.
Most junior firefighter opportunities are through local fire departments and are non-operational (meaning you wouldn't actually be fighting fires). However, you can contact your state park to find out if they have any junior volunteer opportunities that you may be interested in.
@@NVFCCommunications can you live in a different area and have it be about a 20 minute drive to the station, while still being allowed to partake? Thanks
@@blockvfive1196 It depends on the department. Some have residency requirements and others allow volunteers from outside the area. It may also be different depending on whether you want to volunteer as a firefighter or as a junior or auxiliary member. Check with the department you'd like to volunteer with to find out their policies. You can also find volunteer opportunities at www.MakeMeAFirefighter.org.
instead of calling this juniors it should be explorers because that what it really is, yes its a junior thing but the actual programs and stuff are explorers
Hi Kyle, The National Junior Firefighter Program has almost 2,000 programs registered throughout the U.S., Canada, and abroad. While some of the programs are Explorer Posts, others are independent, locally developed junior firefighter and cadet programs. No matter what type of youth program, everyone is welcome to use the resources at www.nvfc.org/juniors to develop their local program and learn more about the fire service!
I am a junior at Cold Water VFD, an Explorer at Concord FD and Charlotte FD. I am also taking classes offered in my high school that make me a fully certified firefighter and EMT in NC right out of high school. All i need to do is take my live burn and i am done! Explorers and Juniors r VERY different. Explorers train and do drills and learn thing which is an invaluable sorce to teens who want to be firefighters. Juniors train with their dept and do whatever drills and mock senarios the firefighters do but they also run calls. They dont just ride the truck and watch, they jump out of the truck with med gloves on grab the jump bag/ first aid bag, and the AED/EKG and go in and start doing work! We learn and then we do! We do everything the firefighters do including BP, CPR, First Aid, C-Spine, Triage, Fighting all extrior fires and so much more!! The only thing we cant do is cutting cars for extrication on MVAs and interior firefighting.
Duncan O'Sullivan Hi Duncan, Thanks for watching the video! That's great to hear that you are learning a lot. Some junior firefighter programs are very different from Explorers, but some are very similar - it depends on the state, city, department, and local laws and regulations. No matter what type of program, youth involved are learning about the fire service, fire safety, and fire prevention, and helping their communities at the same time! In most states, it is not legal for youth to fight fire, so not all Explorers or juniors get to do that. North Carolina is one of the exceptions where you can go to the fire scene starting at age 16. The NVFC does not advocate operational activities for youth but no matter what, we recommend following your state laws!
+Duncan O'Sullivan I'm 14 and I live in NC also (about 45 minutes away from Charlotte) and I volunteered yesterday and it was so fun :) I can't wait until thee next training next week
