As Chinese, hotpot has always been my top list for friends dining together. It's so easy to prepare and save your time of cooking, and most importantly, really tasty. Just always remember to store some concentrated liquid broth, sauces, sliced meat and veges in your fridge, and you'll good to go. I strongly recommend all people who doesn't try hotpot to give it a shot. (except for those on diet xd)
These guys are cool but not careless, and give you safety tips on how to eat it traditionally so to not burn your self. What a great team. I wish them multiple millions of hits!!
Today in my college Chinese language class, we spent most of the class time watching your videos related to food, your videos are Chinese professor approved ~
Monica S Restaurants like this are usually very party oriented, its pretty common to just sit there eat & drink & chat for hours as long as you don't go ape shit crazy
+Monica S With hot pot you do actually stay there for 3+ hours. It's a evening long meal, you also need to cook everything which takes time and between bites here and there, you enjoy the company of your friends and family. It's highly common so the owners of this restaurants would actually cry if you already leave within an hour or so xD
+Monica S other than what +cupcakekingdom said, that ur supposed to eat for 3 hr -ish/plus, they are clearly doing some advertisement for this hot pot restaurant, im sure the boss is more than happy to have them there for 3+ hours. ;)
I live in NY and during the winters, it can get down to 10-15 degrees. There's no better feeling in the world than to get a nice hot pot with your peoples during a grueling winter where you are freezing your ass off on the way to the hot pot spot. That first bite is like a step from hell to heaven. West coast cats can never have this experience.
watch4theDROP I feel you buddy, I grew up near Russia, my entire childhood was " Winter is Coming ", there is no better feeling when eat hot pot or Korean BBQ while your life is basically Castle Black
Thank you for showing us the "trick" of using the two ends of the chopsticks to handle raw and cooked food. People on "hot-pot" videos always complain when they see double-dipping; this would seem to be the solution.
Nick Hentschel From my personal experience, there is always two pairs of chopsticks at the Hot Pot places I went to (one plastic, one wood) so you can always just use one to handle the raw food and one to handle the cooked food.
+Nick Hentschel I wouldn't worry too much about hot-pot etiquette. Our family think it's ridiculous to flip chopsticks back and forth. The tip of the chopsticks will be constantly hot anyways when fishing for food in the hot-pot so you don't have to worry about contamination. Plus, if you're eating a raw egg, then using the other end of the chopstick is useless. The double-dipping is solved by pouring sauce into your own bowl, we always do this. bon appétit!
I went to a restaurant called little lamb in Chinatown chicago last week. I HAD NO IDEA HOW TO USE IT. my waiter couldn't speak much English and he didn't explain much to me even after I aksed and told him I'm new. It was a fail I wish I saw this video first. But I'm going back and doing it again. FIGHTING!
I'm glad to know eating hotpot is a messy affair for everyone. I went to one yesterday and felt embarrassed trying to eat without spilling any drops, but it was no use. Messy eating, but *so* worth it
i love you guys so much. i find your videos enjoyable and hilarious. and i seem to learn something new in each video. I'm a adopted asian and wish i new more about my culture. growing up i never wanted to be asian. i was adopted into a italian family. but I'm very grateful for your videos and now that I'm older I'm learning to embrace my asianess more and more. :)
my friend and I just had hot pot for lunch. He's had it before at his house and while at a friend's house, but I've never had it before. Not only did I find the food delicious, and the style really fun... I really like what this video was saying about friends and community... I'm impressed with this dish.
I am Mexican American and I love hot pot! My friend Ally cooked it for me once and I was obsessed! I am making some today for dinner on this cold spring day.
Fun video guys, but I somewhat disagree with your summary of order-of-cooking food items. Generally, you should cook meats first -- it lends more flavor to your soups while veggies (especially the leafy kinds like spinach and watercress) and tofu (especially deep-fried) tend to soak up all the oils from the soup (which reduces the flavor intensity of the broths, something you don't want to happen too quickly -- remember, all restaurants will do is just add more WATER to your pots if they see the volume get low!). In addition, more meats at the beginning ensure you're getting good value for your meal; last time I checked, most people don't go to hot pot for all-you-can-eat veggies. You can also put in starchier veggies (e.g., potatoes), hard root veggies (e.g., daikon and lotus roots), and mushrooms (for flavor) at this time. After most of the meats are eaten, then you can start putting in leafy veggies and tofu. Traditionally, most people finish the meal with some noodles and the soup (which is just FANTASTIC at the end since it's been cooking all the meats and veggies!). However, the caveat for Cantonese hot pot is that this meal is very acidic (especially the spicy broths!) and is relatively high in sodium (because of the seasonings in the broths and sauces) (which can lead to hypertension, a genuine health concern in our culture...)....
I know my comments get lost in the fold of meaningless opinions, but i felt compelled to praise this educational and well compiled and edited video. I thought the funny side jokes were entertaining and engaging, but the close at around 6:30 where you explain the nostalgic feeling of family brings the whole meaning full circle. Thanks for the education and well thought out production
I really love your videos, especially videos talk about Asian foods and snacks. Andrew seems very excited about what he gonna to eat, he is so focusing on putting those ingredients to the pot from 4:20 hahahah that's cute. Hot pot is so important in Asian culture !!
That looks delicious. This is something you eat with family and friends; it’s better than eating by yourself. I’ve ate hot pot with my family and relatives and it’s so much fun . The arguing and loud talks are just hilarious
hey y'all know i love these east/southeast asian cuisine videos, but how 'bout you guys change it up and try south asian food? definitely try some pakistani restaurants if there are any good ones around your area!
U guys should get yr group channel, nit racist any but we want talk about closer to home, east asians, chop stick users, so we don't feel lost, in anotger world, plus this channel just small young kids, can't cover too wide. U should have like south asian group channel to explain 2nd gen about their own old traditional ways, food of india, pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, by the way I love curry, I got have it once month, so bread once a week, taco 1s 2 week, these none easterners stuffs. Oh by the way, Fungbro should have show about eastern version of curry, especially Vietnamese 1, they use sweet yam, potato, coconut n eat with vietnamese bread, oh its so good. U got try it man or women, I can't telllfrom yr own language name.
trinhcuong1961 i think that even though south, southeast, and east asians are so different, we are all still asian and that's what brings us together! but you're right, but i would like to see some mainstream youtubers discuss south asian cuisine since south asian are underrepresented in the asian community (in my opinion) but i understand what you mean!
When me and my family has hot pot we mix the egg with vermicelli noodles or meat together then put them into the hot pot. At the end of our session we also pour our egg all over the hot pot soup that has all of the cooked stuff in it. Hot Pot is so lovely and it does bring people together.
man, this is the only downside to living out in the country. No Hot pots and no good asian food. Man mega bummer. This made my mouth water and no way to satisfy my cravings.
Such a fun and HELPFUL video! I don't turn my chopsticks around before handling the raw meat; I just carefully move a piece of meat to the pot then dip the tips of my chopsticks in the boiling broth for a few seconds to "sterilize"
The Malaysian style hot pot is called steam boat. The main difference is our dipping sauce consist of fresh cut chillies, garlic and sambal. YumMalaysia!!
