So many immature comments about this video. I consider myself as a typical Korean American living in Los Angeles, and this video is a very accurate and informative reflection of Korean BBQ in So Cal. You can always nitpick, but i like this video.
Oppa just means "older brother" so you call to a guy whos older than you. Dongseang means "Younger brother" doesn't mean friend zone or the stuff they said lol
YangSunWoo Pierogi, szynka, bigos, kopyta, kaszanka.... great food. But coming from Southern California where food from around the world is easy to find and affordable, to Poland where anything not Polish is hard to find and really expensive is a bit frustrating!
Here's something you gotta try. Swedish food. Specially surströmming. And please don't just eat it straight of the can, get a swedish pro from northern Sweden to show you guys how to do it. It requires some preparations, but it's good eating once prepared correctly.
This is my 16th year living in Korea [mind you I'm 17] and this is my first seeing some one eat Korean bbq that way before, perhaps its a fusion style? I've been to quite a few Korean bbq places in my life and pretty much all over Korea and never have seen that before, interesting. Makes me want to try that.
That was so much fun to watch! Thanks y’all! I’m gonna be working in a Korean bbq joint pretty soon and wanted to learn some of the lingo and culture. This video gave me a good idea of what to expect. 😎
I always hear people talking about how good I think its Mexican food ? can you try that is seoul we only have a Korean version of Mexican food but foreigners always say its not at all the same
Mexican food is good but sometimes makes your stomach hurt afterwards and sends you straight to the bathroom after you're done eating lol it happens to my dad and boyfriend every time
passionate1197 Oh really? hahhahhhaha I always wanted to see how it "really looks" I guess I have friends in the u.s that say Mexican food is there favorite
It really isn't the same. Korea doesn't have limes or the right peppers needed for authentic tasting Mexican food. I do have a favorite spot in Itaewon, but it still doesn't compare to the real stuff back home.
lol dam memories watching this as kid thinking i’d never be able to afford going to kbbq so i’ll jus watch this for fun, now i’m adult grown eating kbbq being able to take whole family 😅🙏🏻

Uhhh Black people eat intestines too (chitlins/chitterlings)...we say all the time Koreans and Black people eat a lot of the same stuff but prepared differently.

I am talking about intestines specifically, because im not too familiar with african foods. Could you tell me what other dishes share similarities? just out of curiosity (maybe ill try it someday)
Omg, one of the many times I was eating korean bbq, a white family came in for their first time and had no idea what they were doing. They go and get all their meats from the buffet area and then come back to their seats. The waiter then gives them their drinks and turns on the stove. The husband and the wife apparently have no idea why there is a stove and why their meat is raw and I guess they assumed you eat it like sushi because this was an asian place. They then start eating fucking raw meat and their kids are watching them because they want to make sure it's ok. They tell their kid's it's fine once they tried it and the kids start trying it slowly too. At this point, I'm just watching with my jaw dropped. One of the parents then eats a piece of fat with no meat and starts dry heaving because it is gross. The waiter sees this and comes back and tells them that they are supposed to use the stove and they are just saying OOOOHHHH like it never even came to mind. They then start cooking the meat slightly embarrassed and the kids burn themselves. I was just smh and facepalming the whole time. It ruined my own experience.
Sorry for you bad experience but damn you just made my day, I seriously can't stop laughing hahaha. Most white families who go eat at asian spots are so rude to the waitress or the waiters and don't know wtf they're doing.
I love Korean food a lot. always fly with Korean air just so I can eat Korean food and stop in Korea just to eat authentic Korean food.. yumm. next time I will stop and stay longer in Korea..
you should try Hmong food...it will be something a little bit different then what you may be use to...Hmong food is a collaboration of other Asian foods with a twist, because we adapted those foods from where ever we ended up migrating to...

I say that, rice paper is like gum to me. I love it! The look, the peeling, eating a lot of it, and just eating it plain! Is that weird? Am I the only one who feels that way?
A couple of things I don't agree with (I'm Korean-American). My 2c Oppa: you say this as a female to a male older than you or -very rarely- the same age, and only to the same age if you are submitting to that role. If you call a younger male "oppa," you are an outlier. I would even say an extreme outlier. Saying oppa without context doesn't mean anything other than she recognizes you're older and someone they don't consider a stranger. Even then, a woman can call a male waiter this just to get their attention regardless of what your real ages are. Same with males calling male waiters and waitresses "hyung" or "nunah." Dong seng: regardless of sex, you say this to refer to anyone younger than you (rarely do you address them by this word), and only if you know this person. I've never even heard of it used to friendzone someone, and it's very disrespectful to call anyone older than you a dong seng. If you're older and a girl calls you "dong seng" I'd be offended because that is just disrespectful. "Yuh gi yo" and "juh gi yo" can be used interchangeably. I've never heard of anyone making the distinction that they do here. You can confirm this (if you can type hangul) in google. Older people pour drinks like that if they don't know someone younger. If you are over the age of 16 and you're older, you generally poor with both hands and drink away if they are anywhere near your age, and it's also safe to do because it's respectful. If you're younger, you usually tell them not to pour that way (pyun ha gae ha seh yo!) if you are "agreeing" to be younger and they older, and the older can tell the younger the same. Basically as a gesture of, "let's be friends and drop these formalities."
Oh, and "go chu" = pepper, "kko chu" or more accurately "ggo chu" = slang for penis. They sound the same to non-Koreans. Korean girls will sometimes flip the meat because they like doing that and want to seem motherly, as a friend or as a girlfriend. It depends, and isn't necessarily friendzoning you.
+Jovan TrendMaker trust me, as soon as you marry one, you will end up eating more than you can handle. korean woman show their love by stuffing food in your face.

Poring the drink portion gave me a flashback to when I got together with another student when we were taking Mandarin. She was from Japan, and I was actually just thinking of practicing Mandarin over dim sum. Yeah, I know, it was the first semester. Anyways, I did things I took for granted, like opening the door for her, and pouring the tea when I saw she was almost finished with her cup. She looked at me with a big smile, and said she like America. She also called me a nice guy, which I learned later is an international method of saying, you're in the friend zone.
