Age of Mythology ~ Unused Dialogues & Extended Cutscenes

- These unused sound files were always known, I recently analyzed all the unused audio files in the game files and implemented them back into the game, using the scenario editor. There are more unused sound files in the game files that were meant for the campaign scenarios, they are implemented in the maps but for whatever reason they are never played.
Gargarensis in normal dialogue : cruel cyclops
Gargarensis in unused dialogue : poetic cyclops
I wish he was officially a poetic cyclops.
@@rancper I mean in most scene you see him in he is being poetic even if he isn’t reciting a poem. And often he recites poems. Often when describing him to people I say he is a “Cycloptic warlord and poet”
Unsolicited recitation of poetry is its own form of cruelty.
The lines of a real poem he's reciting is "Lepanto" btw
@@sammyvillano9502 you describe Gargarensis to other people often?
_"Remember that threat. _*_I will have your head for that."_*
GOD, that was such a cold delivery!
Really wish it had stayed in the released version.
Literally coming down to the comment section to say the exactly the same thing. It also adds more depth to their antagonistic relationship. In the cutscene after the final Egypt mission, Arkantos sees Gargarensis and says "Gargarensis still breathes. Come on!" and chases after him. He doesn't just want Gargarensis dead in order to stop his plot, but also (and possibly primarily) because a megalomaniac cyclops threatened his home and child.
-You don't think they can make it to Atlantis?!
-No?..
This part kills me everytime.
I cracked at that too when I played it for the first time and it still gets me
The sass on Arkantos is hilarious, even when it backfires on him
I love that part made it in the game but all this other dialogue got cut lmao
@@TUCell-ps5mi He is such a Posideon fan boy too. Like going back older now playing the game I’m like “Oh there are so many signs Posideon is not your friend” but our boy is just so oblivious. And hangs on just a little longer than he should
@@sammyvillano9502 because in the myths (and especially the "Iliad") Poseidon was especially pro-Greek, but that changed in the "Odyssey" after the Greek host's attitude after conquering Troy (basically forgetting their manners towards the divinities when they sacked the city)
Now Kemsyt saying “Zeus can still interfere” makes sense. In the original it sounded like Kemsyt thought Zeus could interfere in favor of Trojans, which made no sense.
in the "Iliad" Zeus took no sides in the Trojan War, partly because of Hera
@@user-ix1rp9ff3p But he wanted to side with Troy, but Hera had a grudge against Troy because Paris didn't pick her as the best looker.
@@rickoshay5525
I think I remember that part, but wasn't the entire Trojan Cycle his idea of depopulation (apparently even the demigods, some of them his own) à la Great Flood scenario, just because he was afraid of history repeating itself?
(TL;DR Kronos dethroned Oranos via castration, Zeus dethroned Kronos via Titanomachy, the Fates prophesied the same thing happening to him -Jesus- )
so basically he was on the divine side, mostly his own
Kem-my-babysit
It's interesting how Arkantos keeps bringing up the point that Atlanteans and the Ancient Greeks feel different and that the problems Atlantis faces are not of ancient greek's interests. Even when Amanra asks him about it, he feels the need to say they are not Ancient Greeks. This makes me think, that it wasn't planned for the Atlanteans to end up as ancient greeks in the game on the start.
Probably you are right. They included the Atlantians at later, maybe they were behind the schedual so they might rushed up to complete the product somehow to release date. Also Anatolians (Troyan People) are not Greek are represented as Greek too. I would also like to see an Anatolian faction but sadly Ancient Anatolian culture/mythology is not known like other mythologies.
@@seyhuncelik9584 Anatolian culture and religion is decended from Assyrian and Babylonian cultures. It was also one of the first cultures to be Helenized which means to use marble and architecture featuring lots of pillars.
Where as the Ancient Greeks are actually familiar to how the Atlanteans are in the game, Poseidon is the chief god, their architecture features massive walls made of prismarine and hades is absent from existence.
Its only after the seige of Troy and Alexanders conquests that Greece becomes Helenized and Zeus becomes chief god.
Now the fun thing about greek culture and Mythology is parts of it come from Ancient Anatolia and other parts of it come from Babylonia. Suggests that to say that the Trojans were familiar to the greeks is accurate. Since the Greeks stole basically almost every aspect of their culture.
And their decendants in turn became Romans who stole every part of the Greeks culture. Its a vicous cycle.
@@yammoto148 "Anatolian culture and religion is decended from Assyrian and Babylonian cultures" -> this isn't true at all. Hatti had their very own mythology, and then the Hittites came and they were indo-europeans.
The Troyans from Homer belong to the neo-hittite kingdoms era.
Some of the most typical elements of hittite mythology are the Storm God (who fought a Giant Snake called Illuyanka), and his son, the God of Agriculture, who angrily left humanity to famine before being appeased by other gods and coming back.
Of course the Hittites were in contact with their neighbour, so they were influenced by Greeks, Hurri, Hatti, Syrian (but not Assyrians, those didn't exist yet), and Akkadian myths/cultural elements. But that's true for everyone on the globe.
Anatolian culture was still firmly indo-european, with a considerable substract from the Hatti and Hurri who lived there before. Hatti was even the sacred language at some point (similar to latin in the catholic Church).
@@yammoto148 " Since the Greeks stole basically almost every aspect of their culture." This is also false. As I said, no culture on earth lived in a void, so of course they were influenced by neighbours and pre-existing cultures (such as the Pelagian and Minoan people). But they are still clearly indo-european, even more clearly than the Hittites, with all the typical deities you can expect: the father god, the martial god, the earth-mother, the moon and sun twins etc.
@@yammoto148 "Now the fun thing about greek culture and Mythology is parts of it come from Ancient Anatolia and other parts of it come from Babylonia. " Please provide one example of greek mythology that comes from Babylonia.

Honestly, it's a shame that this dialogue was changed, I quite like it.
THIS IS FOR CHYRON
Chiron*
This is really cool. Wonder why these segments were never used. One of the things that I always like about AoM's cinematic's is how they are short, memorable and don't go on and on and on about the game's plot. That said, all of these segments that ended up being cut add a lot of texture to the story.
I remember these cutscenes
@@kuki1824 Yeah but all of them had lines that weren’t present in the game or certain bits
They make certain lines make sense. Shame that they were cut.
This make the story logical its quite esential why the hell did they remove it?
Hmm, some of this dialogue adds extra context that could have been good with some polish. But I can definitely also see problems with the pacing in some spots, which is probably why they cut it.
Definitely interesting to see it, though! Thanks for sharing!
Man, I hope the Remaster retells the story a lot better. So much cut dialogues, Arkantos' old battle, and some characters (such as Achilles) feel so left out in this series.
Agreed!
Arkantos:I am bored fighting pirates.
Poseidon:Time to get rid of boredom!
Love the Ajax dialogue before cutting "gargarenis'' head
fun fact: the cut dialogues and cutscenes it was to *PREVENT* massive spoilers
“Cut” is already past-tense, “cuted” isn’t a word, and sounds like it’s trying to be some form of the adjective “cute” anyway
@@Chauntecleer editing and i hope this isnt other teacher unfun people
@@enrique16ish yes
@@Chauntecleer "how many times do we have to teach you a lesson old man"
@@enrique16ish I sure love the young people lol
1:23 that was good what can i say
this adds way more depth to the characters, should've been left in!
Amanra: You are Greeks?
Arkantos: No, Atlantean, there are Greeks among us.
This exchange adds so much context as to why they aren't immediately fighting, it shows that Amanra is familiar enough with them to not attack on sight because they are unfamiliar and it shows that she even knows their language enough to confirm that they are greek in their own tongue (I know they speak english ingame, however they're likely speaking native languages from a lore perspective)
Amanra is a mercenary she fought for grece in war thats in her story
@@stefangherghe4718 Fair enough, however I'm not sure everyone reads through the bios of each of the things that appear ingame
how do they all communicate with the norse then?
@@freakfreak786 well on the last cutscene Fromm the egypt campain there was a norseman with them maybe he was a translater for the Greeks and norse
AMONG US
We need a game about Arkantos' backstory!
There is a good reason why most of these were cut, they absolutely kill the pacing of the scene, and most of them feel like a massive case of "tell, don't show"
I know this took such a long time to piece together and implement into the cinematics. You did an amazing job! And I love the extra dialogue, even if it does make make things “too long and unnecessary” :)
Ajax is so funny...
Any final words before your head goes in this bag, fiend. Any poetry to share with us?
The original dialogues always felt like they were incomplete and make little sense. These shouldn't have been cut
Thanks for uploading, now some dialogues make a little more sense.
I agree with some edits but not others. Some lines cause the scenes to drag, and make scenes more memorable. Others don't and actually add context and flavour.
You guys wanna know something funny? All those cutscenes where included in the spanish version, I remember all of those scenes and constantly say to me "Unused? but I even remember them with the spanish voices!" for any reason you guys got the inferior version lol
"Unused Dialogs" meaning there are extra conversations between characters. It's not unused cutscenes, it's "extended cutscenes"
@@moddingaom5622 Oooh I see. thanks man.
@@moddingaom5622 i also play the game in spanish version, can confirm
Too bad they didn't have a Kamos digging animation in the files as an easter egg
Always amuses me how Gargarensis spoke mad shit, yet in a straight fight he wasn't much of a threat.
One on one in the map redactor Gargarensis smashes Arkantos. He is cyclops - his health bar is bigger, attack is stronger and possibly his animation is faster.
Arkantos more of a team player
@@janedanchinova7072 Oh I know, I also know that like other heroes he still gets taken down fighting a group alone pretty quick. My comment was meant more as poking fun at how his "power" is mainly through just schemes, not raw power.
@@janedanchinova7072 Arkantos god can kill unlimited waves of gargarensis see and try in editor 😏
They should have leave those dialogs in.
Helpless Greek cities... who sent hundreds and thousands of soldiers to slaughter everyone at Troy.
Honestly, except for that part with Setna, it really looks like most of this was just pure exposition and the story didn't really suffer for having any of it cut. I probably would have removed most of this myself if it were up to me, even now.
Gargarensis spoils that Poseidon aids him which is a big spoiler, I can get why they cut that one but almost every one of those dialogs brings so much character to Arkantos and others. Truly a missed opportunity.
if we ever got age of mythology 2, id almost want the games campaign story be retold with more time playing it.
boy, do I have a good news for you
@@jakubjedlicka3671 oh I know, it's coming.
wow how do u predict game titles man
What a coincidence hahaha
Without those cut dialogue, I haven't clear what purpose of attempting to Reborn Osiris.
This is for Chiron
Thank you
This is gold! I don't get why they'd cut them out...
Arguments like "the campaign is already long enough" just don't sit with me. Whilst many studios scrambled to finish games by removing actual gameplay content, ensemble studios cut perfectly good voicelines to shave of what? 3 minutes? That just doesn't make sense...
I'd say they wanted to keep the whole thing more ambiguous and mysterious (as myths are). Not expalining everything in upmost detail leaves the audience thinking, wondering of the why and how. They have the freedom to elaborate and interpret the story the way they want.
This aproach is not be popular with a lot of people. Gimme them juicy details! 😄
I believe that, back in the day, they considered the overall story to be more important then what the characters had to say about it, and that players didn't care about the details, they just wanted to "get in the action!". Nowaday, the best movies and TV-Series are centered around characters and their progression, their thoughts and action, dialogs and interations with others and the world around them.
PS: As a voice actor, especially that of Gargarensis, I'd even feel slightly offended. 😌
i can see why they were cut
good choice to not include them
but still interesting vid, thanks
Ow so basically Arkantos had just fought a minotaur, a chimera, a mountain giant and a centaur before or at the same time as he fought Theris.. Jeez!
I thought those guys were just .. there..
I need to check if that's a possible win for arkantos in the editor..
Still waiting for Arkantos vs Theris campaign :)
Maybe in a definitive edition this dialogues can be included.
Ill never understand why stuff like this is cut 😓
are you sure that these where removed? I can remember seeing these
I think alot of the removal makes sense. Id say about half of them actually add nothing to conversations and story , other half can also be divided between it works but not particularly necessary and last quarter being literally ''It wouldve been better if they kept it''.
OMG, I love it
Yeah I can see why this was cut.
Can you send me the link for how to do this?
Why does this look way better in graphics? is it a different version for AOM?
It is the extended edition
I remember them being in the german version of the game.
why i am remember all scenes
if you owned the original CD copies those dialogs aren't cut
7:13 Amelia Black? Is that you?
Arkantos voice actor also voiced george washington from aoe3
Anything similar for the TT?
Not really. There are a couple of minor unused sound files, but most of them are not a part of the cutscenes.
nice
Ajax is a blessing
I doubt Ajax has any idea who or what a Thor is.
"I don't understand... will it fight?"
*Facepalms*
Wow whoever made the decision to cut these _actually made the story worse._
