  • This FAL shot about 2 inches to the right at 50 yards after I built it in 2003. Decided it was time to correct the actual problem instead of the band-aid rear sight that worked okay but just wasn't the right answer where my OCD is concerned. The barrel was over indexed to the left (over tightened) maybe a degree or half degree. I'm convinced the problem has been fixed but I'll do a part II after some range testing...soon!

A buddy at work tried to talk me into building one for almost two years! I ended up building four of them and sold two. The two I sold paid for the other two! The FN FAL is one of the best battle rifles ever built! The rifle in this video is now dialed in perfect with the rear sight windage adjusted perfectly in the middle! My other one is close enough so I won't be doing a thing to it! Good luck with the Argy! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thank you for this video, I’m doing the same method with my FAL using an 1-1/16 wrench. Everyone I talked to said it was the wrong way to go about it but if it works it works!

Haven't you ever heard of running the carrying handle plug in by hand to see if barrel is indexed correctly or using timing rods?

Timing rods will get you close and often times on the money, but not always. You won't really know until you shoot it. Not sure what you mean by the carrying handle plug? ua-cam.com/video/OLEvNydSjSU/v-deo.html

I like the vid I have the problem of not being able to clock it all the way to 12 ….stops at about 11 o’clock. When I look at the shoulder of the barrel it is touching the receiver and the threaded barrel end is up against the receiver in the chamber

If there's interference inside the receiver something is wrong. Who made the barrel and receiver?

@@peteregger7928 The kit is an early South African R1 I am told…..the receiver is a Coonan

Timing rods and a bright light were used lining up the shadows on a wall. You can mechanically get everything lined up perfect but sometimes the barrel will still need some minor tweeking after you fire the rifle to see where it actually hits. Don't have a factory jig so any other method other than actually firing the rifle will be a bit of a compromise. Thanks for watching!
