Why use a Frontier that's more of a base model than a model more optioned out? For example. Truck beds. The Tacoma has a plastic bed. Yeah, plastic. The Frontier also comes with a spray on bed liner and Nissan's track system, which is excellent. Steering? Nissan stayed with the traditional hydraulic steering, which gives the driver a better, more realistic steering feel between the steering wheel and front wheels. The Tacoma uses electric steering which is very light. The driver doesn't have the same feel between the steering wheel and front wheels as with traditional hydraulic steering. Nothing show stopping for either system. For me personally, two show stoppers for the Tacoma. 1) the 4-banger on steroids (turbo) and the Tesla like interior with the 'iPad' sticking up out of the dash. No thanks. Nissan's truck is more traditional in many respects and will appeal more to the traditional truck buyer looking in the midsized segment.
This video shows the Pro4X vs TRD Sport. Very comparable trims. The Pro4X is literally the top of the line for the Frontier and very on par in price to the TRD Sport. Also it's hard to be picky with which trucks to use. These were the only ones on the lots. The fact that I even had a chance to film a PRo4X with a new Tacoma is hard to even do. I do prefer the hydraulic steering, but it's just very heavy in slow speeds on the Nissan. Makes it a bit annoying off road. Both have good things to offer and the Nissan is more simple. Tacoma is more modern. So both will appeal to different buyers.

I think Nissans weak link will be that 9 speed. They sound great and all but as a former titan owner replacement parts up to 2023 were still extremely hard to get for Nissan. OE parts that is. The last gen tacoma was the most sold midsize. absolutely no shortage of parts.
I considered both and ended up buying the 2024 Frontier. The major issue was the motor as I want it to tow a small travel trailer from time to time and I wanted adequate power without a turbo. The V6 with 9 speed tranny is very smooth and delivers good power and I won't have to worry about potential turbo maintenance issue during the life of the vehicle. This was a tough choice, though, because I really wanted the Toyota. I tried every way possible to make it my choice but just couldn't get over the 4 cylinder turbo engine with a towing requirement. I suppose if I were just looking for a car with a bed, I would be driving the Tacoma but it wouldn't be because it was a better truck, it would be because I wanted a Toyota.
Glad you enjoy it. I’m going Tacoma, towing is the same and it’ll handle it just fine. I have trailers and potentially a boat to tow it with and I’m not worried about that at all. But just depends on what the buyer wants.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I think the Tacoma "can" tow almost as much, but it is over the long term that worried me. If you only tow once in a while and light enough to not stress the 4 cylinder you'll be fine.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Sure, it can tow, but I won't pick a 4 cylinder to tow anything substantial. Some very light hauling, perhaps, but if that is a "must-have" for a vehicle, a 4 cylinder isn't what you're going to choose. Sure, it works in a pinch, but if you have the option to buy at least a 6 cylinder that is the best way to go. The problem with Toyota is that there isn't that option anymore in the Tacoma.
@@benjoseph260 I’d tow a 4500 pound boat with it and it would do fine. If you are towing heavy equipment or something, a full size or diesel is better, but it can still tow and be fine for what any midsize would do.

The Frontier was my least favorite interior but best overall truck in my opinion. Frontier was the cheapest and best truck for me.

"If you want that V6 sound..." I don't GAF about the "sound". I want the V6 ENGINE. How ridiculous to imply that the sound is the main reason to go with the V6.
Well from the comments we get. Lots of people comment on how they hat eat sound of a 4 cyl. So just pointing out what buyers seem to say as one other reason they like the V6
@@BrosFOURRSpeed It seems as if "sound of engine" is being used as an analogue to "qualities of engine". "I like the sound of that V6, almost certainly refers to the explicit notion of sound, but I think it is also referring to the implicit notion of "qualities of the engine" and everything that comes with it. Such as "I love the sound of the rescue chopper", means "I love the fact that the rescue chopper has arrived" more than it means they love the literal "sound". It should be assumed that those who "love the sound" of the V6 would also catagorize themselves as those who love the operative qualities of the V6. It would be totally assinine to "love the sound" of the V6, while hating the qualities of it's engineering and performance. Therefore, it is clearly an analogous term, and should not be taken literally.
@@BrosFOURRSpeedthe Frontier and Tacoma have been virtually tied in reliability over the last decade. It seems like you're generalizing Nissan vs Toyota. We all know the CVT trans issues have knocked Nissan down overall, but the Frontier doesn't use a CVT so it has had excellent reliability stats.

Test drove the Pro-4X. Didn’t care for the extremely heavy steering, the small digital screen in the instrument cluster was very dim also and hard to see in direct sunlight even with brightness turned all the way up. The technology also seems very old and outdated. The only pro in my personal opinion is the naturally aspirated v6. I have a 24 TRD OR on order. Toyota looks way more updated, i’ve owned the corolla in the past and the Toyota just looks way better. Will have higher resale value and the standard Toyota sense 3.0 is way more advanced than the Nissan in my opinion. Good review. Go Tacoma 🙌🏽
I don’t always have access to different models at the same time, so possibly if that ever happens! But the ZR2 costs a lot more, so I was comparing similar priced trim levels.
Everything about the Frontier looks better than the Tacoma with the one exception that Tacomas have more color options. I say this as a 2013 Tacoma owner. I know I'll be going for a Frontier if I decide to upgrade.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed it’s because it’s natural aspirated V6 just like my 2022 2WD Taco. The dealership back then told me that the wait time was between 2 to 5 month for a 4WD. Catch 22 kind a situation.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed yes will just have to see. Turbo is not exactly my forte, as for NA V6 has proven itself to be very reliable with just basic maintenance at proper intervals.
The Nissan for 2024 will be more reliable and the engine will last longer with no major problems. You can't beat naturally aspirated engines for longevity and reliability.
Bought my 2024 frontier a month ago. Love it. I stepped inside the new taco but the interior was a turn off with the big taco stamp in the dash, the 4cyl turbo was a huge question mark and just overall fair(ish) price.
I drive a 2023 Tundra SR, in my experience (previously owned a 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro) Toyota's dependability and quality are long gone - From an off road POV The Nissan is more functional with the tow hook locations and proper skid plates, the new Tacoma (at least on the TRD Off Road) they seem to skimp out on armor and poor tow hook location and size. I do not like the interior on the new Tacoma, its not intuitive for the instrumentation and the center console looks cheap IMO, If you're sticking with Toyota, move up to the Tundra, you get a Twin Turbo V6, much more useful interior and better carrying capacity for not too much more (if any at all)
The Nissan also sits so much lower, so it's not ideal for offroading stock for stock with the Tacoma. But I would disagree that Toyota dependability and reliability are gone, far from it.. I have zero need for a fullsize, as there are a lot of others who wouldn't want a full size either, so that's a personal preference! I'll be getting the 4th gen and I'll make tons of content on it and see what it's like!
The Nissan drivers in the comments are trying too hard man... reliability it's the Tacoma and it's not even close... Resale is not even in the same universe. The only place the Nissan wins is price and that's because they lose all value once rolled off the lot. I'm taking a Colorado and maybe even a Ranger over the Nissan. I guess congratulations even being compared to a Tacoma but the Tacoma will always be king of the midsize unless Toyota decides to ruin their brand and stop making reliable vehicles for some odd reason. They won't.
I uabe 2024 pro 4x nissan, i love the outside design better than the taco but the taco interior design is just bomb, 44k for nissan n taco full loaded its juat crazy 😂
The Frontier will win even more if they added for 2025: Telescoping steering wheel Fully digital cluster Larger updated screen. Better updated cameras Auto up/down on all windows. Rear vents Lighter steering Memory seats Pro Pilot 2.0 More comfortable rear seats (not sure how they would do that)
Sure anything could win with big improvements lol, we’ll have to see, Nissan is way behind on a lot in the last several years, might take them awhile to even catch up.
The engine and Turbo charger will never out last the 6 cylinder frontier engine. I would say that the Toyota will have a 10 to 15 thousand engine replacement in less than 5 years. Turbos do NOT last. Frontier all the way.

Wtf were designers thinking when they designed that? I will just take the center console out of the tacoma to put it in the frontier and get a frontier (not in the market for a new and stupidly expensive midsize truck, but now I would absolutely never get a newer midsize... everything is getting the vw GTI treatment (4 cil turbo engine) but in a size and weight that will destroy that engine in no time. I agree, a V6 option would have been nice!
the 4cylinder is in the highlander and some lexus vehicles for the last couple of years. it’s been reliable so far. toyotas are usually reliable although they have had some growing pains with some engines(oil burning rav4’s in the mid 2000’s and grenading early 3.5 v6’s). if you haven’t driven one you really should. the engine and 8 speed blow the v6 and 6 speed out of the water. they are just severely overpriced right now.
no thanks to the Direct injection v6 on the Frontier
@bwhit707 Never been any DI issues with Nissan DI engines. The previous generation Frontiers 4.0 265hp engine used for 15 years was DI. No problems. My 2012 had 160K trouble free miles before I traded it in on a 2024 Frontier.
Thats great to hear; I only made the comment based on generalized reporting of carbon buildup issues in DI only engines. I like the new gen Frontier , I wish it had a telescoping steering column. Yeah there is a lot of good from the V6. But the turbo is more fun to drive
I think Nissans weak link will be that 9 speed. They sound great and all but as a former titan owner replacement parts up to 2023 were still extremely hard to get for Nissan. OE parts that is. The last gen tacoma was the most sold midsize. absolutely no shortage of parts.
Interesting to hear! Toyota is much more reliable!
@@benjoseph260 the 4 cylinder isn’t new from Toyota, it’s been around a long time and people used it to tow.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Sure, it can tow, but I won't pick a 4 cylinder to tow anything substantial.

"If you want that V6 sound..."

You should’ve gotten more comparable outfitted trucks. When you were talking about the bed on the Nissan, they do come lined with an inverter in three prong plug as well no storage that wasn’t mentioned making the Nissan look inferior in the bed fashion wearing indeed it’s not.
These were the only trucks on the lot and I made it work..
I watched a video the guy did 0 to 60 in both. The tacoma was slower 10 seconds compared to 7 seconds on the frontier so you are a little of on that part.
Just stating what each manufacturer says on their websites…
Well they seem to be wrong. Or more bias towards toyota. The pro 4x is a better deal for sure. Just traded my 2017 trd sport for a 2024 nissan pro 4x. Engine is way more powerful and the transmission is so nice. No more searching for gears like it the toyota.
@@woodknack1 I’m sure they have done testing as well, what random video did you watch?
Also the Tacoma has much more power, in the hybrid and even more torque for the base, and the new Tacoma doesn’t gear hunt.
I regeared my 3rd gen, but the 4ths have been fixed…that’s also a fact.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed maybe torque but not hp.
@@woodknack1 the hybrid does. But buy what you’ll enjoy.
Sorry, but truck market is getting ricidulously ugly. Yes, the tacoma has a nicer center console and a sunroof. But it has an iPad for infotaintment, a little turbocharged 4 cil and a composite bed that warps (plastic is not friends with heat and load).
The frontier on the other hand is a good product. A hidraulic assisted steering system that gives you so much more feedback, a decent infotainment system that doesn't look like the worst afterthought, a steel made bed (that will vome with a spray on bedliner if you get it as an option), better looking wheels (toyota makes very ugly wheels, only exception being last gen TRD pro wheels), a naturally aspirated v6 engine that has a much better chance of surviving truck life... there is no comparisson to make here... and ai almost forgot to mention the blue stuff in the tacoma.
Sorry, but it looks to me like I'm gonna get a gladiator and turn it into a Hemi gladiator at some point. Or an older colorado and give it a big LS engine to make it happy and eternal. I would even stay with my D21 nissan hardbody, put an LS in there and get some work done in the interior to bring it up to date. It will only be missing the radar and cruise control after installing a nice 2 din screen with car play and android auto, getting a camera for that, installing some reverse sensors
The blue trim accents are options. You can pick different colors depending on what you’d like..I had no issues hauling stuff with my previous two Tacomas and looking forward to getting the 4th gen soon!
Buy what you’ll enjoy! I’d much rather have the Tacoma over the frontier all day.
Have fun engine swapping, that’s not for everyone.
I had Tacoma 2020 and now Frontier 2023. Frontier all the way. Tacoma overrated.
Glad you like that. I’ve had two Tacomas and ready for the 4th gen!
Price?….
Depends on how you spec it. But similarly equipped a Pro4X will be about $47k to a Tacoma being $55k
The (outdated)Nissan literally has a lot of the features you highlighted in the Tacoma lol
Yeah it has a lot of good modern features. Still feels a lot older in design and the layout is much more basic like older cars.
