The True Nutrients - Water

- It's time for the truest nutrient of all to have it's time. While many well intentioned people will debate over other important nutrients: protein, fats, sugars and fibers, studies show many of them are missing out and what makes that debate even possible: water. It really needs no introduction beyond that.
Apologies for the poorer than usual audio, I recorded this in peak allergy season and this was the best take I got.

One slight correction, because I apparently can not make a perfect video to save my life: when addressing overhydration, in more extreme cases this can lead to HYPOnatremia not HYPERnatremia. Hypo meaning not enough. With the Na that follows standing for sodium and emia meaning its prescence in blood
emia meaning presence in blood. not enough sodium presence in blood. thank you chubby emu.
Was going to say. Too much water dilutes salt. Hence hypo and not hyper. Dehydration would more likely be hyper. It's similar when you study biology and learn about isotonic, hypotonic, and hypertonic.
Ok chubbyemu.
Could you implement consistent units for measurements (metric system) for you future videos? I always found measuring in “cups” to be a bit arbitrary it would be helpful for us over the pond to see mL, cm, alongside to make it more accessible to use the information your giving out.
Just some constructive criticism love your videos dude!

Hey Talon! Since this video got me feeling so hydrated, I think a whole separate video on salt and/or other electrolytes would be very helpful for a lot of us. There's a lot of confusion surrounding how much we really need.
I second this. We need a video on this topic
Talon, I second this! Please make a part 2 on electrolytes! Would be greatly appreciated
More plates more dates made an insanely comprehensive video on this if you can’t wait!
Yes!!
Just take a little (a pinch) of Celtic salt each day with your distilled water & your be fine
Can we appreciate the flawless rhyming from 2:23 to 2:39, we need an album ASAP

Hi Talon, too much intake of water causes hyponatremia, not hypernatremia. Hypo = not enough, natrium = sodium. First line treatment for mild hyponatremia is to eat something salty or drink a concentrated salt solution.
I swear every one of these videos has just that one little mistake that keeps it from being perfect and it annoys me to no end.
@@Talon_Fitness Your willingness to admit mistakes is what makes the video perfect.
simp @@NS-vj9xd
@@Talon_FitnessI felt that. ❤
@@Talon_Fitness Being a solo UA-camr those mistakes really aren't a big deal
Not sure if it necessarily is a True Nutrient or a True Killer, but I would like to see Talon take on the messy topic of low-calorie sweeteners (Aspartame, Sucralose, Stevia, Monkfruit, etc.) and provide a reasonable cost-benefit analysis.
They aren't classified as that yet but i agree they are.
Guessing Stevia will be the healthiest of the bunch. It's grew well in my herb garden last year!
Theres No benefit
Water gets described as tasteless, but to me there's a distinct difference in taste depending on the source. The water at my house tastes great, but at other people's can taste pretty bad, so if you don't like drinking water because of the taste, try using a filter or bottled water (or move house 😅)
I once heard a saying "Home is where the water tastes good". Seems true to me
*moves house*
Water is tasteless, the things dissolved in it might not be
It usually tastes better if it has an appropriate amount of minerals and is clean (there's a lot of weird smells and colours that are considered "aesthetic" issues in many municipal water supplies that they don't bother fixing)
@@bluegum6438no water tastes like water
Bottled water tastes gross - I can taste salt when I drink it, and I looked at the label: they add salt.
I've been drinking plain water exclusively for almost 6 years now. It really has made my life a lot better. It helped me get back down to a normal weight and maintain it, it keeps me full in between meals, and helps with my dry mouth and waking me up in the morning. It is quite literally the best drink ever, you can't beat it, high hydration and 0 calories.
I too, drink water
I don’t drink water, cuz it don’t taste like anything. I only drink Chinese Alcohol and Jelly Squeeze Assorted Fruit gelatins
Good for you ive been drinking water exclusively for a year and don't feel much of a difference aside from constantly craving Pepsi 😂

as a diabetic, i'd be really interested to see a glycemic index tier list; foods (other than pure protein, or pure fat,) ordered by how much they spike your blood sugar.
it may concern diabetics in particular, but all people do benefit from limiting high GI foods
I am a professional health coach and psychologist, mostly coaching patients with chronic pain or depression. Yet, there is also your "everyday" patient who just wants to lose weigth or get advice in food and drink intake.
Once , i had a patient with quite a lot disgestive problems, he was tired all the time and had regular headaches. We (my colleagues and I) could not find the problem, since he was a young man with no apparent illnesses who did a lot of exercise.(Note: we are not a hospital and do not take blood samples) As a routine, we asked him among other stuff, if he drank enough water. He assured us that, yes, he did. Then one day, one of the nurses asked him how much water he considered to be enough and he said "I try to drink at least 4 liters a day". When we reduced his water intake to 2 liters per day he quickly recovered.
Love these videos. I find them great motivation. Keep up the great content Talon!
Back when I was in drum corps, I'd probably be drinking upwards of 3+ gallons a day, since we were outside in the middle of the Texas summer rehearsing and excercising for 10-12 hours a day, every day. And I feel like the activity made me something of a compulsive water drinker, since I still probably drink at least a gallon a day now, years later, and I feel like I'm way more sensitive to thirst than most people because of it.
I feel you, even the slight feeling of thirst makes me cringe and I don't feel good if I don't have a bottle of water with me
Same. I have a bottle that can carry ~0.5 galons/2 lts and I fill it and finish it twice every day. Idk how some people don't carry water bottles.
@@Jnnewsman Bro, Goatis has made a bvideo about you and what to eat.
You seen it?
He proved vegetables are not necessary.
This may be the most important one yet. Thank you.
THIS IS TOO GOOD TALON. You provide such insanely high-quality videos, l love this! And you motivate me so much to learn more about nutrition and how the body works. 🎇🎆
Such a good channel to follow and watch. I truly thank you!
Thank you for making this video! I have a very physical job that requires me to stay hydrated but I'm constantly forgetting to drink water until it feels dangerous. I've been trying to find the right amount to drink each day but I'm constantly pushing for more if possible.Very informative and it kept me interested!❤
Recently discovered this channel and really enjoy it, great stuff, I’ve subscribed!
I am so thankful for these educational, straightforward videos. You've taught me far more about health and nutrition than school ever did.
Does school even have a class for nutrition? I know you can take one in college, but it’s an elective.
@@iemjay The closest thing I had was health class where they taught the "food pyramid" that suggested 11 portions of bread a day and near zero fat.
This NEEDS more videos. What an incredible video.
I like how at 9:02 "Brussel Sprouts" has a spooky font :D Nice detail!
Thank you for the information Mr Fitness
As an ex combat medic, I hope a lot of people listen to this. A lot of people’s so-called problems stem from dehydration.
Amateur singer here. I used to think that I drank "when I needed" but someday, researching the internet, I found out that the best/easiest thing you can do to improve your singing is drinking more water. I got myself a sport bottle and I started to drink more often (as you said, if you keep it close, you will drink more). That was about six months ago and it has made a great difference. Not only do I sing better, but also hangovers have practically disappeared (I'm 46 and I go out from time to time) and in general I feel much more "slicker" (I know, crappy explanation). All in all, you're so right about water. Great video!!
Another splendid video
One of the easiest things you can do to improve yourself is just drinking more water.
easy for you to say, you are literally a frog
An excellent video as always.
How about making a vid for salt and electrolytes ? It would link with this vid quite well and I think there is a lot to tackle.
Cheers
This is the video I've been waiting for ❤
Great video Talon! Quite helpful.
Hi Talon,
I just LOVED the %water list !!🎉
Love your videos so much Talon. It's sad to see you addressing the negativity in your comments because I think the overwhelming majority of people enjoy your stuff. I'm sure you're aware of that though. Much love
for those who struggel with water intake, I would advice to start consuming something more appealing to get the habit of regular drinking, like vodka
Instructions unclear, I am now an alcoholic
No we put ,dry gas, into our gas in freezing weather , it is alcohol that absorbs water out of the gas and keeps it from freezing, seems it would dehydrate a body.
Hey, thank you for the great videos! One suggestion though: For the rest of the world that does not live in the USA, it would be great if you could include litres and other metric units in your videos.
Ever since i started drinking more water, my headaches have pretty much disappeared completely and my skin is much clearer
Thank you
I was waiting for this video
I've been loving your videos! Any chance you could cover a range of polyphenols / phytochemicals, what they're good for, and the best natural sources?
Overhydration is a real problem with prolonged exposure to harsh environments. Hikers can fall victim to it if they don't prioritize electrolytes during long hikes in hot dry areas like the American Southwest. I've heard plenty of guides share stories of finding hikers sitting in the shade in a daze on hot days with plenty of water, but end up needing rescue because their sodium is so low.
That being said... you're thirsty go drink something.
your channel aestetic is one of a kind
thanks for these vids brother. from France :)
Finally someone recognising the importance of our precious bodily fluids
you should do a video on enriched foods like pastas and rices and breads. I think a lot of people don’t know if they are good or worse than non enriched foods
I apreciate and love water so much, I can't even explain it. It's what I miss the most when I'm sick and can't ingere much
As always, amazing content but if I could make a suggestion, would please include metric notations?
im a huge water enjoyer over the last 2 years, trying min 3l max 5l per day , and im talking pure, real, tap water
I am a sparkling water enjoyer for the past 10+ years. 3l daily minimum
@@robqwert2696How often do you burp?
Answer: Yes!
"Pure", "real", tap water is ironic. Tap water has many different chemicals that are not safe for you long term even in areas with good water treatment (just can't filter everything out at that capacity) get a RO filter with remineralization
@@olegb5061he said pure, real, tap water like it’s the good stuff😂
Watching talon videos cured my anxiety and depression
Never had this nutrient before. Will have to try!
Best part of the video was the list for sure
I made it to the end of the video because you're amazing. I do need to drink more water too
Great video, it sure has made me considering drinking more water! 🌊
Thanks comrade Talon!
I've carried a 2 liter hydroflask with me for the last six+ years. I only ever fill it with plain water and go through about one a day. It's done wonders for my immune system and general health.
Love you thanks for the videos
Hey Talon you should go over types of water & safest water to drink. Spring water, Distilled Water, Alkaline Water, Even tap water.... I rely mostly on Spring water. The type of water matters too. Water is just water, but even Tap water can have harmful contaminants.
Source of our Water is really important. Thanks!
You should do the second part of the vegetable tier list with stuff like Zuchini, Soy Sprouts or Radicchio leaves!
You've confused hypernatremia with hyponatremia. Hyper = too much sodium (not enough water). Hypo = not enough sodium (too much water).
Great presentations!!
These little mistakes haunt me 😂
I swear I do something like this every time
Hyper meaning high, Natri meaning sodium or more formally known as Natrium, and -emia meaning presence of blood. High Sodium presence in blood.
@@nonamehere1626oi! Chubbyemu! Is this your second account? Love your videos man.😂
Excellent video, would it be possible to do a video covering what water is most effective for hydration? I’ve heard to drink filtered water, tap water, water from the store with additives, filtered water with sea salt, and more. I’m sure they are all better than not drinking water but I don’t know which method is the most effective.
Loved the fruits and vegetables list 🤣
You should rank the health (generally) of ethnic food groups!! You could do American foods, Mexican food, Japanese foods or Indian food!
Next up: Water tier list.
Tap water, Rain water, Spring water, Bottled water, Mineral water, Ground water, Soda water, Sparkling water, Sea water, Stormwater...
Sewer water
Distilled water
This is a good direction!
nice way of finding out i need to drink 3-4 liters of water every day... iv been drinking 1-2 liter ish and thinking that was good enough... talon, godspeed to you!
Thanks for helping me get my head out of my arse by thinking more about the most essential subsatnce
Water is everything.
I love your videos and have been watching every week.
But, please, use more metric units
Using the spooky font for brussel sprouts is the real reason i like this channel.
Fantastic video!
A new video of talon means it is time to optimize my diet :)
Terrific job 🎉
Like always, you kill it with your videos Talon. They are so practical and doesn't try hard to be flashy or trendy. I wasn't gonna come in with a recommendation but I have only one thing that would be nice: If you got a better microphone. The visuals might be considered low quality, but they aren't. It's just your style. But the audio is a little shotty. I just think it'd be so much better
Water and unsweetened bottled green tea is all i need! That...and a couple cold ones once in a while :)
Hey Talon! Quick question, Does water lose health benefits when adding flavoring? Specifically, powdered sticks ie, Crystal Light Fruit Punch, or even a Liquid IV. Would someone stay healthy exclusively drinking water with some sort of enhancement?
Thanks!
Dude, you are amazing btw.
I love your videos man
thanks talon!
Growing up I wasn't the best about hydration, over the past couple years I lost 20 lbs just by increasing my daily water intake.

Hey Talon, i would love if you put metric units in the video for lazy people like me! Even if you dont say it, having it there helps me having to stop the video and convert units. Appreciate your channel!
I thought this was gonna be about which filtered/bottled water is healthiest to drink. Least heavy metals, chemicals, impurities, etc. Great video still.
I was hoping you would cover minerals. I just got a reverse osmosis filter system and I'm curious if i should add anyhing to it
what we really need in the water are the minerals, expecially magnesium but also potassium and sodium. Water nowadays doesnt have as much minerals concentrated as in the past and the reason why many ppl are dehydrated is not because they are drinking too less water but that their water and/or their whole diet lacks minerals. magnesium is almost the most important mineral in our body and it is certainly recomennded nowadays to supllement it through like magnesium bicarbonate water (reaction between magnesium hydroxide and co2 aka sparklong water).
OMAIGOD BABE WAKE UP IT'S THE WATER EPISODEEE!
Do a food group tier list. Like fruit vs meat vs dairy vs fats vs veg etc etc
Talón is mr. masterlists and also is going to make me cry with how much he cares.
I would appreciate it if in the future you'd provide metric conversions for the units used, thanks
I know it would be kind of weird, but I would love a video about fasting: water fasting, intermittent fasting, etc. There's a lot of videos online but most of them feel like they're trying to sell you something somehow.
