I thought Joel’s bad hearing played a part in THIS episode..when Ellie woke up him up, he was sleeping on his good ear, showing how Henry and Sam were able to sneak in without him hearing them.
Yeah, that was my thought too. They made a point of bringing it up right after Joel puts the glass down, and show us him presumably going to bed laying with his good ear up. I assume for exactly this reason, explaining why they were able to sneak in, Ellie trusted Joel to be able to hear the glass, and he rolled over.
Yes, that was obvious but they also didn't go over the glass at all. She would've woken up so they were hiding inside the same building and came in a different way I think
I think the contrast between how Sarah and Ellie respond to Joel killing someone is not necessarily reflective of Ellie having a "dark side" whereas Sarah was "innocent." I believe it is more reflective of the times in which both were born and how they were raised. Sarah was a sweet and well-loved child of a father who adored her and provided safety and security. Ellie was an orphan raised in a institutional military school/orphanage during violent and crazy times. I think it is not really fair to compare their reactions and see one as good and the other bad, it is much more complex than that.
She isn't simply ready to commit violence, it seems as though she's hungry for it based on how she responds to violence. Joel's never excited by or interested in violence, he just does what he needs to do to survive. I don't think we can say the same for Ellie.

I'd say his hearing issue came into play right during the episode. He was turned on his left side with his right ear exposed, would explain him not hearing getting snuck up on by the brothers

I think Ellie was talking about Riley. In the game we do not see her killing Riley/what used to be Riley. But maybe they will show us that scene or again not show us but imply it.
My only question for this episode was why Joel did not take more 'guns' from Bill's whole gun collection? Instead he chose to take that smaller caliber bolt action rifle without a mounted scope. I mean, the guy is from Texas.
It was a great episode, just like they've ALL been, but it's hard to not complain on some level about 2 straight with no threat from (or even sign of) the infected 🤷🏽♂️
Yeah so far no zombies yet but there's a scene where Kathleen and the guy accidentally walks into a room and sees a zombie erupting thru the floor bulging up and she says let's get outta here and the guy says we gotta tell the others and she hints let's keep this quiet not to panic the team.
I was overhearing some older men (very conservative looking) talking about episode 3 and how good and sad it was. Really subverted my expectations. I thought they would hate it cuz of the romance between two men. It was nice to hear.
You get smashed with hate if you talk otherwise. The episode was full of logicfaults and bad scriptwriting. But nowadays nobody cates, it's only checking boxes.
@@CordeliaWagner In terms of romance and backstory, it was very well written. It gave us the info we needed abt each character without milking it, it was straight to the point. A lot did happen however, so that's why the episode was so long. I get that people wanted action, but we're already getting so much of that in the series. This isn't the game, it's a drama. Story is important, it's not all guns and blood.
Ok help me out here.. as someone whose last video game experience was super Mario brothers or early 90s sonic.. how is what I’m looking at a “game”? Looks like the show.. what do you actually play?
The only thing I didn’t like about this episode was Joel without his book bag. The book bag is iconic in the game, idk if he will get it back or if he lost it all together.
Nice parallel of what Joel said about Tommy, and him joining the fireflies ,and army vs what happened with Joel, and the guy begging for his life. Just young random guys joining causes they have no business bring apart of ,and probably deep down just being scared.
Another fun fact: In the episode Ellie tells Joel that coffee smells like burned sh*t and that the same thing she tells to dina in part 2 in the first city that they arrived to.
So in the game, is there an infected attack from underground that overruns the city while Joel and co. are trying to get out or is that crater and whatever is going to pop out of it show only? I have never played the game myself but I did watch one of those UA-cam ‘movies’ where they cut together all the cut scenes and big moments but it’s been years and I don’t remember much other than the beginning and the ending.
In the game the infected don't overrun the city the "hunters" ambush Joel and Ellie it's the same for the show and game then the hunters track Joel and Ellie across the city until eventually Joel and Ellie meet Sam and Henry where they eventually depart ways and Joel and Ellie are force to jump off a bridge
One thing I noticed not just about the look of Ellie but she looks much more childish and innocent in the film, while in the game she looks and acts like a punk. Like you said, Joel finishes the attacker off instead of just Ellie killing them in the game.
Another great video - Thanks so much! It's interesting how when you show Ellie game vs. show with the same dialogue it really shines a light on how the new one is a pale imitation of the original.
Idk why i dont like bella ramsay as ellie. Every character has some similarities to a gaming character except ellie, dafne keen from logan could pull it off better than her.
Your point about the Kathleen wanting to kill the doctor even though they needed one is completely wrong, they said specifically that they couldn't be saved so she killed the doctor because of that fact. And the reason Ellie says she's killed before is because it's obviously about her and Riley and how she had to kill Riley because she had become infected together. It's not a mystery to anyone who's played the game so not sure how you missed that and speculate something changed lol
Killing the doctor makes no sense as they need him. Not sure if that's in the game but here they were trying to show some bad assery but it didn't seem to work. Kinda forced.
They would've gotten along great but Sarah would not be able to survive as long. Joel was able to take out 3 guys when ambushed and has the physical strength to fight them off.

I think Ellie was talking about Riley. In the game we do not see her killing Riley/what used to be Riley. But maybe they will show us that scene or again not show us but imply it.
Hm, how very interesting, i wonder how things will be handled from here? Hopefully they keep up the pace.
My only question for this episode was why Joel did not take more 'guns' from Bill's whole gun collection? Instead he chose to take that smaller caliber bolt action rifle without a mounted scope. I mean, the guy is from Texas.
Because it's hard to carry everything.
Didn't they say the Kid wouldn't make it regardless if Kathleen had a Doctor? That why she didn't need him alive?
It was a great episode, just like they've ALL been, but it's hard to not complain on some level about 2 straight with no threat from (or even sign of) the infected 🤷🏽♂️
Yeah so far no zombies yet but there's a scene where Kathleen and the guy accidentally walks into a room and sees a zombie erupting thru the floor bulging up and she says let's get outta here and the guy says we gotta tell the others and she hints let's keep this quiet not to panic the team.
This was quick
Sam does get infected in the game, so I guess we'll see if their storyline will be the same in the show.
Damn, the Leafs are never safe.
@@CordeliaWagner that’s your opinion. I thought it was sweet and homey. ❤
Conservative looking?a priest?
yuhh i'm finished the episode rn 😂😂
Ok help me out here.. as someone whose last video game experience was super Mario brothers or early 90s sonic.. how is what I’m looking at a “game”? Looks like the show.. what do you actually play?
0:51 based
Anyone else surprised Bill didnt convert the truck to diesel, since its a much more stable and lasts longer.
@@only1life88 supposedly not that difficult, and there were a lot of diesels left around..most military gear use them.
@@only1life88 thats literally one of the main tools you need.
@@only1life88 pretty sure the guy who figured out how to run heavy duty generators and everything else he did in Lincoln could easily manage it.
This episode was a laugh a minute 😆😆. Didn't know it was a sitcom? Sam being a teenage mutant ninja turtle was epic!
Joel tells Ellie to NOT stash the gun in her backpack, not the other way around.
That's exactly what it is. Just people like Joel says banding together to survive that's all.
17:30 What was that clip from?
MASS A CHEW SETS IS HOW U PRONOUNCE MASSACHUSETTS
Rose wasn’t the same since Charlie escaped her basement
Stephanie probably watching this channel blow up and regretting her mistakes.
i’m having bad walking dead flashbacks.
HUNTERS SEASON 2 breakdown? Really wanted to know your thoughts on it :(
Another fun fact: In the episode Ellie tells Joel that coffee smells like burned sh*t and that the same thing she tells to dina in part 2 in the first city that they arrived to.
I think that Dylan McDermott from American horrror story could have played Joel 100% to the tee. They look alike.
Love EP
Nice nod to the lethbridge viaduct
Like you said, Joel finishes the attacker off instead of just Ellie killing them in the game.
the actress play as ellie seems..... a shadow of ellie as the game character. she looks very violently ellie.
Another great video - Thanks so much! It's interesting how when you show Ellie game vs. show with the same dialogue it really shines a light on how the new one is a pale imitation of the original.
Which one is the pale imitation? The show does a better deeper character study don't you think?
Idk why i dont like bella ramsay as ellie. Every character has some similarities to a gaming character except ellie, dafne keen from logan could pull it off better than her.
In the future I'll escape to HBO studios for taxi cab confessions, gasoline, food, guns and ammo
Love this show. this ep is a little slow but thats oke. Joel is sleeping on his left side when Ellie wakes him up at the end
But better than last episode all about Bill and Frank.
Why didn’t Joel get a better gun then a the 6 round pistol?
I had to triple take at your pronunciation of “Massachusetts” … is there a backstory here?!
Epic
Hm, Question: What If Joel died instead of Sarah, how do you think things would’ve been like?
How do you think Sarah and Ellie would’ve gotten along?
They would've gotten along great but Sarah would not be able to survive as long. Joel was able to take out 3 guys when ambushed and has the physical strength to fight them off.
