Over-rated show. True Detective season one was better (except for the green ears thing) tlou lacked polish, much rather have a longer finale introducing Abby as opposed to ep 3. Clear to see what it was, why not cast a promising American/Mexican woman for "Ellie" instead of Bella, the accent was annoying.

Also, most of the remaining humans are adapting well enough to the Cordyceps threat and likely will not become extinct anytime soon. So it is more like sacrificing a child to have the possibility to save some humans along with the possibility of killing even more humans if the cure fails disastrously.
Also the world is never in danger from the Cordyceps. On the contrary, the Cordyceps likely have saved the nature world from human overpopulation and pollution. Plus there must be infinite other ways of creating a cure that does not involve killing people that they have not thought of or tried yet. They should do more research and try to make a cure from animals or plants that are immune or resistant to the Cordyceps, or conduct more research and make chemical medicines that are lethal to the Cordyceps but not humans.

As far as giraffes and cold weather? I know that when I volunteered at the National Zoo in DC, they had a climate controlled building for the large mammals (elephants, hippos, giraffes - though hippos & giraffes are no longer at the DC location)... So I'm guessing they don't love cold weather. But I'm gonna go with "the giraffes in this show seasonally migrate to and from Utah & Arizona", and I don't care if that's not possible. Joel going on a rampage was great! Loved it and the calming music while he took all of them out with no mercy. No one but Joel had Ellie's best interest in mind not even the best friend of her mother that again would never let this happen.

@@jessetoland The music at the start of the episode sounded like something from the Terminator movies and Joel became as deadly as a Terminator toward the end.
I think Marlene was lying to Joel about needing to kill Ellie. The reasoning didn't seem to add up. If Ellie had "a chemical messenger that makes normal cordyceps think she is cordyceps," then why do they still attack her in the TV show? Why didn't the dog at Jackson Hole smell it? She's immune from the infection, not their attacks. Couldn't they start with blood samples first instead of just hurrying to kill her?
I think something else is going on. It makes me wonder if the cordyceps might have mutated an intelligent variant capable of hiding itself in and controlling some humans while looking for threats like immune people. Maybe when Marlene lost half her people getting there the rest were infected with it? This wouldn't be the first time a TV show diverged wildly from its source material.

At the same time I understand what Joel did (Ellie didn't know she'd have to be killed, and the cure could end up not working), I also think about the people he killed (did he think they might have family and that using our wishes to topple everything else about everyone else is not ideal?) because he needed to nurture his psychological needs as he was never over his daughter's death. He projected Sarah onto Ellie. Now the other bad thing is their relationship goes on based on a lie. Why didn't Marlene ask Ellie if she'd be willing to die for a possible cure? I think she didn't want to deal with the fact she'd have to kill Ellie even if Ellie disagreed because she had promised her mom she'd protect her, so instead she decided to also kill Ellie without having to deal with that knowledge. I think she'd feel better about herself that way.

I say this cuz Bella will look so young next season and won’t look like “last of us 2” Ellie for a few years. Giving us back story on what happened between the 2 games. I also think Abby’s story will start next season as well. It will prolly be infected-heavy as we didn’t see that much in the first season as we did in the game.

I saw the 9 episodes the additions from their games bring a plus, the flash back to JAKARTA the origin of the staggering infection, this adaptation without faults not enough tension not enough infected . The essence of the story is the relationship of Joel and Ellie over the course of the story to save her at all costs. In the last episode we see the mother of Ellie Anna the interpreter it is the actress who doubles in capture Ellie of the games. Season 2 is already planned and the writers reassure the fans that they would have more Cliquers will be in several seasons.

He grew in my body and I’ve heard his first cry and then his first laugh. There is no world for me without him in it and definitely no one will ever be worth more than my son to save, even me. Even though Ellie isn’t Joel’s bio daughter, after having kids you realize how meaningful and pure a child relationship is no matter the details. So I totally understand why Joel did what he did and I would attempt to do the same

they barely have the things needed to do the job of removing it, and in the show they're even worried about the power going out mid-surgery. Couple this with the show's timeline starting things off in 2003, and there's even less of a chance that the technology and know-how is there (although I have not personally skimmed through 2003 equipment and surgery stuff so idk)

If Ellie had "a chemical messenger that makes normal cordyceps think she is cordyceps," then why do they still attack her in the TV show? This seems to me to be different than an immunity to the infection. Why didn't the dog at Jackson Hole smell it? Couldn't they start with blood samples, spinal fluid or something else less lethal than cutting up Ellie's brain? I think Marlene was lying to Joel when she told him this because she averted her eyes briefly, like Joel did later with Ellie. Maybe the game is different, but I haven't seen that and this wouldn't be the first TV show to diverge from its source material.

Ultimately - and in normal circumstances - it's up to Ellie to decide what she does to/with her body.
However, given that Ellie (a) was not fully informed about what the medical procedure involves (i.e., that she will have to sacrifice herself - not just give a blood sample or something innocuous like that), (b) was sedated and could not give informed consent, and (c), is still a minor after all (she's only 14), then as her guardian Joel gets to decide what happens to/with her.

It’s a total of 9 episodes and it should have been like 15. Henry and sam, David, and ending scene should have Easily been 2 episodes and should more infected. My favorite episode is 1 and 3. I love how they told bill and franks story but it starts to get old after that.
Kathleen character was terrible, I didn’t like her character and it was a waste of screen time. Jackson story was ok, and David part was good but they need more infection to get that extra bond. But what do y’all think? And did y’all just watch the tv show or play the game too
