5:45 I think the nightmares are a great metaphor for all the failed runs you have in the game. Like all the times you would fail saving yourself or Ellie. And you have to keep going through that pain until you get it right.
That’s a cool interpretation, as a non gamer for this I liked the jokes about not having the deaths in the show but that’s a great way to subtly call back to it
Joel asking one person about the whereabouts on the map, and then asking another person the same question, is the interrogation technique he picked up from Tommy. If the answers don't match, violence happens.
Because the knife he has in his room, in TV Sarah saw it, we don't know if Joel served too, or for how long. This is in TV, that's why I say, TV and game are different. I know almost nothing to judge the game because I have not played
One of the things I love about this show is how, by slightly changing the context, it can take a scene right out of the game and make it feel new. In the game, when Joel tries to pass Ellie off to Tommy, it's because he's noticed how close he's gotten to her. He's terrified of feeling for her the way he felt for Sarah, because, if she gets hurt (or worse) he'd have to live through that pain of loss all over again. But in the show, we're well past that point. He tried to pass her off to Tommy because that thing game-Joel was afraid would happen has already happened - and both he and Ellie know it - and he doesn't want his fear of losing her the way he did Sarah to cripple him into inaction at a critical moment. It makes their argument the night before they leave feel so different despite being nearly word-for-word from the game. It's a subtly different path that, nevertheless, leads to the same destination. It's great.
It took me a bit to realize where I knew her from. As soon as I saw her face I was like "waaait a minuteee, do I know you?" and then it took like 10 more minutes of the episode for the realization to hit haha. She's awesome!

As much as I give it props for being the best video game to live-action adaptation, it’s also the easiest to adapt. The ingredients for a great show are already built in the game, and they just have to translate it to live-action with excellent acting and screenplay. It’s just like removing the game parts of the story and just watching the cutscenes in order, so I’m glad they’re mixing it up a bit with the changes, yet still staying true to each character’s story arc.
My one unsolved mystery for this episode that I have yet to see anyone comment on is the fact that when the Jackson citizens first appear on their horses and encounter Joel and Ellie out by that river, there are a total of 11 horses carrying 11 riders. When they bring Joel and Ellie back to Jackson town, Ellie and Joel have each been given a horse to ride and can be seen riding, but there are still 11 horses carrying 11 riders in total. So 11 Jackson citizens left and met Joel and Ellie, but only 9 Jackson citizens returned with Joel and Ellie? Two of them just stayed behind and gave Joel and Ellie their horses for some reason? What's up with that?
It's TV, not a documentary. Not intended to be scrutinized to the most minute detail by millions of viewers on the internet. The bottom line is they took them back to Jackson. That's the plot point that matters. The rest is just irrelevant details. Like where was the Dog? Let alone how does Ellie know how to ride a Horse at full Gallop when being raised in a QZ? At some point you just need to accept it's a show and you will have to suspend your believe in reality at points. Oh, there are Fungus infected clicker killing people as well. So there might be some other parts that don't exactly line up with reality.

The few racists who care so much that Maria is black need to recognize that HBO doesn’t gaf. Also Maria played such a minuscule role in the game I can’t imagine her being black affects…what exactly? Her leading role as Tommy’s wife? Bye. 😂
Exactly, she’s so minor so why bother changing her? Because we all know someone looked at Maria and said, “Nah, we can’t have two white people who built a thriving community”. The last episode had two major black characters, the 13% have already been covered.
Changing the ethnic background of a few characters is easily the least significant change from source material in the show. Having a tertiary character be black doesn’t change anything. Yea, compared to the game it's moving a lot quicker, because of less combat and exploring around, etc. But I feel it makes sense for the show, as you wouldn't want to watch joel sneak around infected every 10-20 mins like in the games, you want to see the story. While there are somethings I wish they kept from the game, I also like what they added. I feel they've struck a healthy balance.

I love the show so far but I wish it had more action scenes like the game but I could see how that could get repetitive and take up to much time but I do wish there were more infected fights
when Tommy bragged about sniping head shots from miles away, I love the nod to him being an absolute BAMF in part 2. That was my favorite section, finding out it was him that was mowing down the enemies. One man army. Him and Ellie decimated the Wolves. Joel would be proud.
Definetely the worst episode in regards to the game. It hit me after this episode that the writers made a conscious effort that Ellie doesnt kill anyone. My guess is she will kill the canibal guy when he tries to violate her.
My only complaint is that I feel like there's not enough infected or raiders. Joel getting stabbed by the raider at the end of the episode felt so lame and rushed like that's it?
Joel is in his 50s meaning he was in his early 30s when the outbreak happened and Sarah was in at least middle school so about 13... 20 is young to have a kid but they make it sound like he had her at 16 or sumn
really think they missed out on not having the david scenes ....he didnt neccasarily have to a peadocannibal just a regular cannibal lol but yh tht adds allot to the relationship dynamic between joel and elli
My only complaint is that the university wasn’t a firefight, that was a very memorable scene and injury to sustain in the game. Plus Ellie killing more in defense of Joel and dragging him to the horse. I feel like it would’ve been better to make that part real similar, but the rest was pretty dope.
@@myra-yves The usual boxes that need to be checked for every modern television show: Race, sexuality, and capitalism bad. - Maria glorifying communism even though the audience is largely American. @@JohnSmith-px5nf You do know that this is the end of the world on this show right? As there are no social consequences on good and bad, also no good yt male characters you have Joel and Tommy? Lay off the crack pipe and cope.
@@krow5099 Joel and Tommy are Hispanic, even though Pascal is technically West European Basque but they made him Mexican in the show for some reason lol According to leftist intersectionalists Hispanics are “people of colour”.
Hard to say who's putting in the master class acting here. Pedro or Bella
Both are master class actors
Think them expanding on Maria is a great idea for season 2. Gives her morals and her motives more than Part II added
She's a bit part character in the game. Not sure why they changed her up.
BUT SHE'S A COMMUNISTS!!!
@@jonfreeman9682 I can see why. Gives her more justification about protecting Ellie from herself in part II. Cause the game version Ellie would’ve just told her to f off no relationship built
@@FupaDoncic They didn't do much with her character in part 2. But they could expand on it and maybe help Tommy recover from his drinking and depression. Part 2 is a much deeper darker story of an endless cycle of revenge so she could play an important role.
@@jonfreeman9682 yep I hope they do some changes. Not a lot of other deaths in part ii but I can see Jessie dying
"betrayed" here means saving her life from people who were going to kill her without even consulting her first
Gave her purpose, and she definitely would’ve agreed. But I’d do it all over again.
Fyi, foal rhymes with goal. Fowl is a bird. :)
Loving the show! Still can't get over it doesn't follow the game close enough. Still the best commentary online!!! Thanks!
I don't mind the changes so far. But the creators definitely declared it would be a extremely faithful portrayal in lead up. That bothers me, because it was a blatant lie. And an unnecessary on IMO.
@@Lord_Vadri mean did you want like a literal shot for shot recreation? a 25 episode long season?? this show is more of a retelling of the story with the main beats still there just new things and shuffled around events
@@myra-yves I mean no. But I mean when you have a promotional campaign promising it will be the closest adaptation you have ever seen in game/film, I expected it to not divert literally in the opening scene and never stop doing so. I don’t like dishonest advertising, period. There have been a large number of changes made from the games storyline. And we are only 2/3 of the way through. No I don’t expect them to recreate it shot for shot. But I expect them to not stray off the main plot points, and change characters around, IF it’s being communicated as a super faithful adaptation. You feel?
@@BrandingChangeYep I won’t even answer such a question. If you have watched the show to this point and don’t know then we are not even in agreement on it. So agree to disagree.
Ok THIS might be my favorite episode
Okay Conrad
But nothing happened
Hm, what a very interesting Episode, I wonder when we’ll meet David?
Tee ton. Grand. Teton. Mountains. Teton Tunes.
Love this channel. Came on @ American Gods S1 and been a follower since. Pour one out for AG and the soul crushing disappointment of the wasted potential of the amazing show that never was.
Can you do yellow jackets season 2 trailer breakdown 😢😢😢
The people of the US won't be able to handle making "part 2" into a series. Between how the game starts, the underlining story topics and the overall perception of what the "landscape" of the future will look like...people's heads will literally explode
Fastest TLOU uploads this side of the River of Death
I think he got a reviewer copy of the show. So he’s most likely premade these.
superintendent chalmers: Aurora Borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your kitchen?
Well there is no light pollution from nearby cities so 🤷🏾♀️
The purple flowers are lupines
I'm glad they didn't go with the video game version where Joe gets impaled on a rebar from falling down
I mean people have actually had that happened to them irl and survived, but yes it would be less believable in an apocalypse with no hospital to go to.
@@ToySouljah. so what’s that building Joel kills that doctor in the end to save Ellie from being murdered to make the vaccine?
the most bizarre thing in this episode was seeing the northen lights with a full moon...in the US. Maybe the spores has something to do with it...
perhaps the years of reduced pollution as well
@@myra-yvesand the climate change that caused the cordyceps to mutate and make the jump to infecting humanity, can’t forget about that
Precisely! You can see the Northern Lights somewhere in the north of the US (Alaska for example), but a full moon as well?
Shiiiiiit.
@@myra-yves DEFINITELY the reduction in pollution
There's no spores in the show
The song at the end is also now being sung by a woman, indicating Ellie being the driver of the narrative going forward..
I said it before and in saying it again, all characters have some resemblance to game version except ellie, they shoulda casted someone lookalike, i cant take her for ellie
Yay!! New video lol🎉🎉🎉
Is it me or was Pedro pascal laying the Texan accent hard this episode
Makes sense to me. My New York accent always is stronger around my family and/or other New Yorkers.
@@turquoise_sky this, have a slight country lick from Texas. Moment I get around my family from California I’m Hella broing non stop
Wassup with the horse at the end
I like how they are bonding in this episode
Anyone else scream HARRY CLEARWATER when Marlon appeared? 😂
I didn’t scream but I was like he look like that Clearwater guy from the vampire movies so it was him
Unapologetic Socialist out here stanning Dina bae.
I love Marlon and Florence
I love the show so far but I wish it had more action scenes like the game but I could see how that could get repetitive and take up to much time but I do wish there were more infected fights
when Tommy bragged about sniping head shots from miles away, I love the nod to him being an absolute BAMF in part 2. That was my favorite section, finding out it was him that was mowing down the enemies. One man army. Him and Ellie decimated the Wolves. Joel would be proud.
Oh Henry candy bars were so popular when I was growing up in the Caribbean. Why was I so excited seeing it. Lol
Nice
Was that Tara?? From true blood??????
It is "Teeton" Tunes. You know, for the Teton Mountains :P
WE’RE PROBABLY GOING TO SEE DAVID NEXT EPISODE D::
Definetely the worst episode in regards to the game. It hit me after this episode that the writers made a conscious effort that Ellie doesnt kill anyone. My guess is she will kill the canibal guy when he tries to violate her.
That should be coming up in episode 7 right? I know they’re going to do the left behind dlc in episode 7 but I wonder if they squeeze that in there
Sally Ride was the first American to go to space? Might want to edit that one.
Henry does not kill his brother, his brother is already dead...
Sally Ride was not the first American to go into space. She was the first female astronaut.
Joel isn't a good person, but he's a good dad.
My only complaint is that I feel like there's not enough infected or raiders. Joel getting stabbed by the raider at the end of the episode felt so lame and rushed like that's it?
I don't know if anyone has said this yet, probably I guess, but can't she just be a carrier and not immune?
Great video….but dude. “Tea-tawn”. Like, Grand Teton Mountains.
dina will prob be that youtuber who literally looks like dina
That’s not a lie…they did find others…you can find a note in the game saying they have had no luck
good recap playboy
My fave episode
Joel is in his 50s meaning he was in his early 30s when the outbreak happened and Sarah was in at least middle school so about 13... 20 is young to have a kid but they make it sound like he had her at 16 or sumn
really think they missed out on not having the david scenes ....he didnt neccasarily have to a peadocannibal just a regular cannibal lol but yh tht adds allot to the relationship dynamic between joel and elli
That'll be episode 8 I believe
My only complaint is that the university wasn’t a firefight, that was a very memorable scene and injury to sustain in the game. Plus Ellie killing more in defense of Joel and dragging him to the horse. I feel like it would’ve been better to make that part real similar, but the rest was pretty dope.
Kind of unrealistic. Joel couldn't kill 10 people. It would have to been a short fire fight with Joel and ellie retreating
@@theempireofjudah9315 don’t care, I still wanted to see it. Plus it was also technically a retreat in game anyway.
Yeah I would like to see Joel take on more than one person without Ellie saving him or him almost dying.
@@ethanlackey8048 I'm sure it will be some gun fights coming up but it wasn't necessary this episode.
@@theempireofjudah9315 eh I think it was necessary, that was an impactful segment in game.

Lol a young horse is a 'foal', not a 'fowl'.
What would monkeys eat in that part of America to survive??? Did anybody have any ideas??
Too many spoilers for future plot events. Will stop watching
I think this ep made me feel the same way as I did watching ep 3 but in a different way if that makes sense lol
Like you’re being spoon fed propaganda instead of an entertaining show. Yeah I agree.
@@AFriendOfYours0what propaganda is being fed :) care to back up your claims?
@@myra-yves The usual boxes that need to be checked for every modern television show: Race, sexuality, and capitalism bad.
- Maria glorifying communism even though the audience is largely American. It adds nothing to the show and is only there to say, “Ha, see communism is good.”
- An entire episode devoted to a gay couple even though it was only hinted in the game that he was gay. We all know if Bill was straight, he would not be getting a whole episode.
- Unnecessary race swapping. Seriously, Henry and Sam were awesome last episode, why do we need to blackwash Maria? Add other characters if you want more representation. Don’t try to convince me that blue collar Tommy would be attracted to a dark skinned black woman.
@@AFriendOfYours0 so what i’m getting is that you like none of those things, gay people, poc’s, and a system that differs from the ever amazing and workers rights friendly capitalism. yeah americans might not like the word communism because guess what? the u.s. government has spent decades trying to stop any semblance of a rise in class consciousness within its citizens.

Depeche Mode i think
Yeah , I compared the two… from the episode it’s a girl singing
So I’m not to sure if it is Depeche Mode, most likely a remix
Maria's from Omaha Nebraska not Oregon. Great video otherwise.
i thought she said attorney out of omaha nebraska, not oregon
There's only 3 episodes left way can't there be 10 episodes
Because Joel kills Marlene and the doctor to save Ellie from being murdered to make the vaccine
There isn’t that much story left. In the game, there is the resort and the hospital section, and that is it. You could wrap the story in 2 episodes, but I suspect they’ll also cover the Left Behind DLC
@@TheJadedJames oh you suspect that? What makes you suspect that? Was it the multiple trailers that showed it? Lmfaooooo

Am I the only one that desperately keeps searching for the song that plays at the end?? Its a cover of Never Let Me Down by Depeche Mode but at this stage I think it's an original piece made for the show and I hate that I can't find it anywhere on the webz 😥
Depeche mode - never let me down again. song is drug addiction from what i heard. It may translate to addiction to companionship in the show though
It is Craig Mazins daughter. She made it just for the show
