I think John didn't come because he would have been a victim of the endless questions of "Is John staying?" "Is John back?" "John did way better than Josh" So instead of stoking the fire he just let Josh have his moment. Since so many people compare Josh to John and how John is better. So instead of causing controversy he just chose not to go. They could have not chose a better guitar player to take Johns place. Josh is worthy and most are unwilling to give him a chance. He's here to stay.
John didn't go because he no longer was obligated to and didn't care to. He only ever really cared about creating and playing music to the best of his abilities- not the b.s. of being famous--including&especially awards. But I'm with you, when John decided to leave the band-- it was his call to make. They knew he would at some point, before they were ready to "retire". Well it was kinda a bad time for the band. They fired Dave Navarro and mananged to get John Frusciante back. They haven't played any One Hot Minute songs since Dave left. But yeah I think some of the speech was edited out (But I don't know that for sure).
Like Dave or not he was part of the peppers history. Their history is iconic and so is Dave. For the peppers to be who and what they are Dave and Hillels fates had to be what they were. It was written in the stars
Huge respect to these guys especially flea getting choked up on his speech. I've been a massive fan for years I still remember buying by the way I'm now 29 still loving every minute of it. God bless the Red hot chili peppers. ✌🏼️
James M first two albums I purchased of theirs was Uplift Mofo Party Plan & Mother's Milk (same purchase). The shift from them with Hillel & Jack to Chad & John was drastic...in a good way. I immediately bought all their albums prior (mother's milk was the new album at the time) and have never looked back since. BSSM blew them up but for me, the opening riff of True Men Don't Kill Coyotes still gives me chills. And they're still as fresh as they were with their first album in 1984. Long live RHCP. Hillel, RIP. You were a true God and we miss you every day. If you haven't heard the band Jack was in a few years later, Eleven, check them out. You will not be disappointed. Stumbled upon them by accident actually at a CD shop in Burbank by my high school. Saw this CD sitting there...this had to be around 1991. I recognized Jack's picture and was instantly intrigued. Saw that band open for a then relatively unknown QOTSA in 2000 at this place in Denver. Anyhow, check them out as well.
While watching the performance i imagine John Frusciante is on stage playing his guitar with his beautiful smile. He deserved to be there so much, it would make everybody happy. We love you John and respect your decisions. God bless you !!

15:10 Love how Flea mouthing along with Anthony, when he told the story about when Flea was about to quit the band. Makes you realize these guys has been through alot, together.
John is the type of person to miss something like this due to feeling bad, awkward, and undeserving of an award because of him quitting the band twice. He is an extreme introvert and hates the type of attention that these events give him. His rare extroverted spirit only comes out of its shell when he’s performing with his band mates on stage. It’s like he doesn’t feel normal in social settings unless he has his guitar in his hands 😂 it’s the main and most comfortable way for him to express himself. I’m so happy that he came back again, and hopefully for good. I think he’ll stay until one of them passes away, because he probably realized how precious his time is with the band/his best friends. He knows that the time they have is limited and wants to make sure he spends as much love, time, and energy with them as he can…god I hope they play until they’re at least 85 years old 😭
I'm a hudge Frusciante fan and I still believe he is the best guitarist in the world. But on the other hand, Josh is really making part of the band now and I think with time, he's become really good!

No matter what your musical preferences are, you will have a favourite song from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I had the pleasure of seeing them about 3 years ago and they still gave it their absolute all on stage like it was their first ever show and had a point to prove.
I rewatched this today, 2020, and I still get a bit emotional during Fleas speech. He’s so emotional about music and it sounds like he’s about to cry multiple times during his speech. True emotion and dedication in his music/playing/performing. + that hug afterwards. Forgive me for any mistakes, English is not my native language. Ps. It’s impossible to see where Flea and the bass ends/begins during a performance, they melt together and Flea *becomes* the bass.
I remember watching this live and crying my eyes out. Grew up with these guys since I was 10 and now am almost 23. Flea and John have been my biggest influences on music and the band as a whole on friendship and love and being the best human being one can possibly be.
What a great group of endless and loving souls have been in this band. Listening to their speeches really inspires me, it’s an honor to be a fan of such a meaningful art form. I discovered them when I was in 8th grade, now I’m 36 years old and it warms my heart to continue enjoying their surreal and stylish art which I really feel is a way nature has to show us the magical potential life has. Peace, love and empathy for everybody. ♥️🎸🦙🌴☮️🕊🎵🏔
RIP Slovak. Man I hope his spirit saw this. People miss him dearly. Literally the start of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS. And John I love you more. The GOATS.
My band supported them in 89, Manchester and Camden. It may've been their second Uk performances. Hillel died shortly after. They were kicking smack at the time. They were amazing. Hillel came and had a drink with us.
Mitch Kincaid I agree. I don't dislike Josh as an individual but his music reminds me more of White Stripes/Jack White type guitar playing and is not nearly as technically perfect or melodic, and beautiful as Johns compositions.
+JaCodi Akers He left the band around 2007-2008. He was their guitarist that changed their music for the better co-created all of their greatest hits. Because he left, their songs lack and are missing something (mainly because their current guitarist isn't as experienced). Maybe there will be more improvement from their summer album
+Mitch Kincaid i feel you man i didnt get their new stuff. im a huge frusciante fan. i loved his raw talent. its sad he didnt go . i dont think its about experience though . their current guitarist just isnt him . frusciante is special.
Jeez almost made me cry... The Red Hot Chili Peppers are still my favotie band and all these years of them creating amazing music, The Red Hot Chili Peppers make me so happy listening to them. They really deserve being in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
Personally I don’t like the idea of a rock and roll “hall of fame” but this is one of the best speeches I’ve seen by an artist. All were meaningful but Flea’s comments show why he is one of music’s most special ambassadors. A beautiful tribute to Hillel Slovak and total class to have all the past members on stage.

Proud to be age of RHCP....and a true music maniac since birth myself,...Never will stop rockin to RHCP...
It's truly a blessing to have this band creating music for the world to enjoy & love
To get to love them is a spiritual funky journey
One of the best bands inducted into the Hall of Fame. They are so different and full of energy. Awesome sauce!
Kiedis & Flea ... what a friendship.... they need to make a movie about their life and journey
28:23 look like Billie Joe and Josh are having fun
flea is so amazing
I don´t know how many times I´ve watched this, but everytime when Flea talks about Hillel and John, tears are coming to my eyes. Flea I love you man!
Chad Smith! What a performance, what energy, what precision and what a shirt 😃 Big reason why the chili peppers got on that stage.
Imagine Axl Rose walking onstage, slapping Chris Rock after that comment in the beginning. 😂
AK sang Higher Ground really well! It looks like so much fun, being on stage rocking out to a funky tune with friends. I'm all smiles.
Ps. It’s impossible to see where Flea and the bass ends/begins during a performance, they melt together and Flea *becomes* the bass.
just close your eyes and imagine Marty the zebra inducting the red hot chili peppers into the rock n roll hall of fame
HAHAHAHAAHAH
honestly makes complete sense
Yesterday I had sex
@@FentDealer1899 congratulations
Jk I’m still a virgin :( epic sad
i wish john and josh played together for this show that would av been beautiful. gm
Not gonna lie, Flea's speech got me right square in the feels. What a seriously amazing human being
Flea's speech got to me man 😪
I remember watching this live and crying my eyes out. Grew up with these guys since I was 10 and now am almost 23. Flea and John have been my biggest influences on music and the band as a whole on friendship and love and being the best human being one can possibly be.
I have never seen any other rock band with such energy as the Red hot chili peppers. LOVE THEM
Flea's speech was so beautiful.
One of the most beautiful and inspiring introduction I’ve ever seen
What a great group of endless and loving souls have been in this band. Listening to their speeches really inspires me, it’s an honor to be a fan of such a meaningful art form. I discovered them when I was in 8th grade, now I’m 36 years old and it warms my heart to continue enjoying their surreal and stylish art which I really feel is a way nature has to show us the magical potential life has. Peace, love and empathy for everybody. ♥️🎸🦙🌴☮️🕊🎵🏔
Omg billie joe armstrong slash and RHCP togheter? man that was most fucking perfomace all the time thank you guys
Andres Vergara así es
RIP Slovak. Man I hope his spirit saw this. People miss him dearly. Literally the start of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS. And John I love you more. The GOATS.
15:10 Never noticed it before, look at Flea!
OnboardRacing haha love him
That Higher Ground song was amazing
flanunu It was so WOW...everyone up there; a pure musical party FEAST! I loved it!!!
Bringing their original members was a total class-act. Love these guys! Been a fan since the late 80's.
I almost had a tear in my eye hearing flea and anthony's speeches specially about john and hillel.. So heartwarming.
WOW!!! And Flea......man, what a beautiful human being, beautiful soul.
God bless the Red Hot Chili Peppers x.
My band supported them in 89, Manchester and Camden. It may've been their second Uk performances. Hillel died shortly after. They were kicking smack at the time. They were amazing. Hillel came and had a drink with us.
Sorry, yeah memory is not too good. I did consult their gig listing and figured I'd got it wrong.
THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!
Sniff sniff
You smell that
Sniff
Bullshit
IssuesBand Why would I BS about something like that. I don't really like them.
The primitives were also on the bill at Camden Electric Ballroom.
I love how flea's speech is written on a yellow note pad piece of paper.
Words will never describe my love for RHCP and the complete power they have onstage
Red hot is one thing with John... another with him.. clearly.. John is the best musician for the Red hot
I miss Johnny Frusc
+Mitch Kincaid No doubt. Josh's playing here was complete shit.
+Dottie Dig agreed. In my opinion, Josh hasn't done anything. His "I'm with you" parts are so simple that they might as well not be in the album.
Will always be my favorite band!
Wow! So exciting to watch this! I love these amazing people 💙
This is beautiful and making me cry. I love the peppers!
best hall of fame acceptance and performance ever !!!!! missed john though
John and Flea deserved to be at the stage together receiving this honor, best guitar/bass combo ever...
