About John Frusciante's heavy drug period; "It was a period of rebirth, where I found myself and cleared my mind." I think it was more like a period where he LOST his himself, and cleared his mind as a result. Sometimes you need to go deep to find peace within.

Would love to have heard more about Nina Hagen’s influence on Kiedis. You can hear her lyrics and he def was inspired by her and delighted in her Life as art. Thank you for a non judgmental and informative piece. I grew up in California when the RHCP, Butthole Surfers & Fishbone all played together in bars and “no clubs” as they were called. Different venues every weekend. It was a liberating time even with the drug addled haze.
I agree about Nina Hagen. I never knew if she wrote the lyrics or Anthony did, to 'What It Is'. That was an amazing time in music; I saw her on that tour.

John frusciante is my favorite musician of all time. For those of you who don't know John has many solo albums. Please check them out. I think it tops any rhcp material.
John's music and lyrics are deeper and more complex than the Peppers, yes. But where sheer accessibility and mass appeal, and funkiness are concerned, he can't ever top The Funky Monks.

It’s kinda hypocritical how Anthony and Flea instantly fire their musical partners whenever they have drug problems. When they themselves were even bigger addicts.
It's not hypocritical. When you're trying to stay sober you shouldn't be around people who are users. They were doing it for self preservation. It wasn't very successful, but that how it goes with being a junky.
Raul Ortiz Who are u talking about?? Slovak died of an overdose while still in the band, and frusciante left the band on his own accord, he was never fired.
Bob have you read Scar Tissue??? Near OHM era Dave Navarro was fried because he started using. By the time that happened Anthony had been using for awhile. If that’s not hypocritical I don’t know what is. I love the band. But by know means are they gods.
This is really a nice documentary. Great band, loved them as a kid, still like them. RHCP are for LA in the 80s and 90s what the Doors were for LA in the 60s. Something different, something that shocked you at first and made you think. And any amazing amount of classics.
Flea is a very extraordinary and genuinely caring person!!! Great band and great music. They are still together despite all the detrimental issues the band had!!!
I think either you or someone else posted this on the chili peppers subreddit several months ago. I've watched a ton of RHCP docs and enjoy the different details covered in each video. I edit AV myself and this is clearly well put together content, thanks for making this.

That footage of Kurt hit me like a train. Never seen that before, and that sealed that he did kill himself to me. I can see the pain in his eyes, having struggled with heroin myself for 6 years. Damn son.
The biggest update of all since the Getaway album is that John Frusciante is back in the band for a 3rd stint since last December. Josh Klinghoffers last shows was in Australia, New Zealand at the beginning of 2019.
I highly recommend reading “Scar Tissue” Anthony Keidis’s book. It’s VERY good and dives into deeper details of a lot of the things talked about in this doc.
Yes I hadn't gone that deep round one, but I intend to now. I have since been reading thru that, and Flea's "Acid for the Children" for the follow up vid. Will fill any gaps left from before, or whatever I missed because this was one of my earliest vids after all, and was just for fun back then.

About John Frusciante's heavy drug period; "It was a period of rebirth, where I found myself and cleared my mind." I think it was more like a period where he LOST his himself, and cleared his mind as a result. Sometimes you need to go deep to find peace within.
whats not lost cant be found... you have to loose yourself to find yourself. you missed his point
@kk Yeah that makes sense you definitely have a real understanding..Dude literally took someone's quote and reworded it becuase he felt it happened different even though John was the one who lived through it 🤔🤷
You don't throw your life away

Anthony's autobiography is amazing. If you haven't read it you must.

Naw homie....Try again.
These boys have been my obsession in the music part of my life for a good 3 or so years now, and I always love to hear about them. Knew some stuff, but also learned some stuff! Great job on the doc, man! Loved it!
side note, i love the part about kurt where you pointed out that “ he took his own, or it had been taken from him “
That Kurt & Courtney scene "we all know about your little problem" and "needles, needles, keep 'em coming" was SO telling.
She was trying to reinforce the reputation of him as an addict...make people THINK he was worse than he was. She had been planning that for a long time.
She was and is poison. So sad. Poor Kurt.
@@witchypoorose5196 She would have said the same thing back to Kurt . i bet she was addicted as well. Substance abuse exists in all walks of life.

Dude this is sooo good!!!
I almost didn’t click on the video bc I saw the length as 40+ min. and figured it was one of those typical TV produced documentary that we’ve all seen a hundred times.
This is exactly what I want when it comes content
Navarro was so freaking good though! His tone & phrasing on that album are awesome!
@Chef Bill hell yeah. Some people can handle drugs - but they aren't for everyone... :-)
I absolutely love OHM.
I like Navarro. My favorite pepper.
Warped is a f..king fantastic song!!
Californication is one of the only albums where every song is epic. You don’t have to skip any songs. You can just let that album play on repeat over & over again 🌶️
These are well put together docs. Thank you for them. It's a blast from the past. I grew up thru all of these events.
✌️🖖
The book “scar Tissue” by Anthony is a great read about his life. I highly recommend it!
they became sooooo hot after Will Ferrell joined the band. just the best drummer ever!
WE DONT DO THAT HERE!!! (Wakanda Accent)
Hahahahahahahaaaa!
Lolol. They do look shockingly similar don't they.
lol
Not to mention will bought a lot more cowbell to their music which was a real turning point.
True Men Don’t Kill Coyotes!!
That's right we make friends with them by not feeding and asking them to join us
Type coywolves in my channel search to see my buddies, they hunt, eat, mate and play in front of me, follow me in bush and I almost pet the female last month, also friends with great horned owl couple too and they have done the same as the coywolves, except roll over and show me bellies but she flies about five feet above my head some nights
Much Love and God Bless

I just got home from their Nashville show. To me it was incredible
Butthole surfers were insane
Thank you for not saying Kurt killed himself
What happened at Woodstock was such a clusterfuck. It pissed me and my friends off so bad. We drove from Washington state to attend and had our time almost ruined. Still it was fun, tar just bummed us out. Still one of my favorite bands of all time.
They still put on a absolute killer show in 99
Thank you. That was a great trip for me. Been a fan of the boys since spring 1987 and the Uplift album after first seeing/hearing/reading if of it in a Thrasher Mag as a 12 year old! Much love!
Thank you William! Glad you enjoyed it =D
That is Josh Klinghoffer at 30min, not John Frusciante. May want to edit that...
I was just about to say exactly the same thing.....
I thought this was going to be some kind of conspiracy video. Turned out to be a solid mainstream historical documentary. Nice job. I guess the "Dark" is all the drugs.
Drugs and deaths, just real life dark stuff. Thanks for the comment! ✌️🖖
He's definitely a pro documentary maker in the making. Nothing amateur about that. It baffles me why 60 people would thumb-down.
@@tezzmosis Well done video, sir! I was hoping you would at least touch on some of the occult aspects, as it seems to be a big part of the "dark history"of the band...
Species Unknown * Yeah, like blood sugar sex magic ! Hello, MCfly !
Thanks for letting me know, do T have to waste my time
One more thought: We all picture these rock stars having these amazing lives, but it would appear that many (if not most) are some tortured souls, I think "THAT" is the true price of creativity and fame...!
LA is more than I can handle.

i'm born and raised. and yeah, it's a crazy place. but it builds a lot of character.
Brilliant doco. I've been a fan of theirs for longer than I care to admit. And honestly, this is a very well done and caring accounting.
Many thanks.
Thanks Jason! Glad you enjoyed it =]
Man, you always do a fantastic job on your videos, the whole way through .
Thank you! ✌️🤓
John frusciante is my favorite musician of all time. For those of you who don't know John has many solo albums. Please check them out. I think it tops any rhcp material.
John's music and lyrics are deeper and more complex than the Peppers, yes. But where sheer accessibility and mass appeal, and funkiness are concerned, he can't ever top The Funky Monks.
same
I have been a fan for my whole life and I have been to so many shows of theirs that were always STELLAR!
John was like a magical spark the band needed. And Ruben really drove it home for them
And now they are back on top with John, and making one if their best albums yet, life is good for the peppers.
Worst chili album by a country mile. Pure cheese
I'm from Hong Kong I used to be a skateboard Asian chick, I know every song by the Pepoers, Flea is my favorite bassist. I also love Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. Janes addicttion, Slayer. I'm such a rock chick. Cheers from Hong Kong
It's neat to see how culture can travel across oceans and nations! Thank you for watching, happy to have such a diverse audience! =D
A metal drummer, a punk guitarist, a jazz bass player & a rap/funk singers.
That was f#€¥ing great ! Nice one , thank you , such a great band , seemingly carefree but deeper and more spiritual than people (myself) realise !
Lord is without a doubt had some major addiction issues but Flea cleaned up his act when his eldest daughter was born, sometime in his mid 20s.
@@JerryRiceBall you know there were a lot more past members than Hillel and John

Very Cool Doc bro , i Love the Style and Presentation of it with the " Old Movie " feel to it !
Old Hollywood is the darkest of all 😉
This is really a nice documentary. Great band, loved them as a kid, still like them. RHCP are for LA in the 80s and 90s what the Doors were for LA in the 60s. Something different, something that shocked you at first and made you think. And any amazing amount of classics.
Very well done! To the point but informative! Thanks! Love the RHCP!
What a great documentary, I will watch it over and over again. Thank you for your work
Flea is a very extraordinary and genuinely caring person!!!

The biggest update of all since the Getaway album is that John Frusciante is back in the band for a 3rd stint since last December. Josh Klinghoffers last shows was in Australia, New Zealand at the beginning of 2019.
Actually Josh's final show was at the Pyramids in Egypt in March 2019. The Chili Peppers haven't done a show since due to Covid
RIGHT ON TIME! So cool to see you making band documentaries. Would love to see what other bands you like man. Chili Peppers. Forever.
It's interesting at around 18.30 when Chad is playing a tune on his piano it is an intro to a KISS song Rock Bottom...Awesome

Well Josh Klinghoffer released N3 with his other band Dot Hacker (which he is lead vocals/piano/synths/guitars) back in January of 2017 and he's recently announced that he's working on a solo album with the help of Jack Irons! Very excited for both RHCP 12 and Josh's solo album
What!? Chad is a very good piano player. I did not know, that he is playing piano so well.
so is Flea
They really need to make a movie like they did queen

Sad to see that clip of Kurt, he was high out of his mind holding his precious baby. Drug addiction is so heartbreaking. Im glad these guys survived it.
At 5:09 u *miss talk about the different styles of both bands :* the *post punk new wave* oriented 'What is This' and the *punk-funk and hip hop* influence on RHCP. James White & The Blacks, Talking Heads, Gang Of Four and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five were their key influences.
