Boston Rock and Roll Band. Bob Seeger, Old records Rush Limelight. Ffs every song in the stable is great. Stop playing limelight!!! Rolling Stones Start Me Up AC/DC Shook Me All Night Long Basically take all of “Classic Rock Radio” and destroy everything they play every day. The same old shit every fvcking day over and fvcking over. And throw it in the trash. Find other songs. Play them. Then throw them out. Play some more. Until you fvcking get to the fvcking end. Then start over. OK pop/rock/country music business world??? We’re fvcking tired of all of it.
As a huge queen fan I do agree a bit on overplayed. But.... It's an awesome song ;) Fun fact. Stevie does is better as a comedy than most artists trying it seriously Thumbs up.
Fun fact: Good Riddance isn’t actually about moving on with your life and going to the next chapter, its basically just a breakup song and the “i hope you had the time of your life” is sarcastic.
I'm glad someone else besides myself gets the sarcasm of that song. Hell, it's in the title "Time of your life (good riddance)". Are people THAT dense that they actually believe it's a song about an optimistic future!?
Well just because bohemian rhapsody wasn’t that popular in us doesn’t mean it was not popular. Bohemian rhapsody was more popular and probably more popular then the movie itself. And the only it charted again after the release of Wayne world is cause of Freddie mercury ‘s death.
The fact that most of these songs are overplayed is what hurts the enjoyability of them for me. "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Sweet Child O' Mine" are all legendary songs, but I can't help but yawn any time they play because I've heard each of them a billion times before! I don't think I've heard "Dance Monkey" before, but if it's as bad as you describe it to be, I'm glad to have avoided it. "Happy Birthday to You" is more of a cliché than an actual overrated song, but overused nonetheless. I'd rather hear "Birthday" by the Beatles, because that's a song actually worth celebrating to.
Dance Monkey played for what seemed like 24 hours a day after it came out. I couldn't get away from it and my wife played it every day as well. I'm so glad it has fallen off. You're lucky to have not heard it.
I understand what you mean but can't say that I agree with that one, I heard Smells Like Teen Spirit also a million times before but few days ago I was getting a coffee with some friends and it came up on the radio in the background and I found myself humming along with it, Bohemian Rhapsody otoh is just meh to me and I'm sure I heard it way fewer times than Teen Spirit
bohemian rhapsody is a great song. With great vocals of Freddie Mercury, and the iconic guitar solo! Although it is overplayed and queen has a lot of songs that are good also.. I’m not hating on it, though! (Quite the opposite!) it is a very in depth, *iconic* song that really pushed queen into the spotlight and I love that for it!
Funny thing: "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is widely considered simple, basic and easy to play, yet noone can play it like Nirvana did. Any cover there is is either too clean and polished or doesn't align with the mood the original track has.
I learned to play before I actually heard it. We were finishing our Halloween Mosh free concert at the skatepark when some friends came up to jam and one started this riff so I learned it on the spot, the chicks were all hollering during and after & that's the day I learned Nirvana would kill my career in thrash.
The song is very very simple and how the band plays it has nothing to do with how it sound at the end, not even the solo is hard to play. About how the cover sound, I´ve never heard "smell" covers, but it might be due to production and mixing rather than the musicans playing it "too clean", if you play on the time you are supossed to then it comes up to how you want the thing to sound, producing it and mixing it too dirty would not really work as you would be straight copying Nirvana. Example: Metallica could emulate the tone and sound of the multiple covers they play on their b sides and stuff, do they? Nope; Why? Then how you know is Metallica covering BOC? Is not supossed to be a exact replica.
You gotta be a little toasted( little bit of whatever that brings you down and beer) and out of tune to play it well. It helps bring that depression through and really sell it.
I'm going with overplayed rather than overrated here.... My local classic rock station plays "Jump" by Van Halen literally Every. Single. Goddamn. Day. I like the song, but I can go without hearing it again.
Stevie T Parodies for my Personal Use Wonderwall 1:14 Good Riddance 4:16 Happy Birthday 5:14 Dance Monkey 6:24 Sweet Child O' Mine 7:44 Smells Like Teen Spirit 9:55 Bohemian Rhapsody 11:28 Stairway To Heaven 13:56
The fact that Smells Like Teen Spirit accomplished so much with four chords is incredible, every single part of the song is great and no matter how many times you listen to it you can't help but smile. And don't even get me stared on Kurt's voice only he can produce that kind of sound, and I've never heard anyone play the song as well as Nirvana. I think it deserves to be overrated.
Yeah I had heard Smells Like Teen Spirit quite a bit in the 90s. Never was a fan of the hook cause of the screaming. But that's not just a dig at cobain. I'm not a fan of that kinda screaming period. Nor am I a fan of that rough what ever kinda voice metal guys do. I only liked Metalica's The Unforgiven cause the guitar, and because of how James sings the hook. I guess if Cobain had sang Smells Like Teen spirit like he did when they screw it up on purpose I perhaps would've liked it more. Cause of course in that vid they screw it up to have fun with how people mis hear it. But I like how he sang it. There's more emotion to it. It's more melodic.
I think Sweet Child is so good because of how it was made. It gives the song a feeling of someone playing a riff, then the band gradually building into this epic rock song. If it started out fully epic, it'd be less epic
That's the beauty with most Guns N' Roses song. They often bridged together 2 separate songs, such as Rocket Queen, where the rock n' roll would turn into an emotional bluesy track. Sweet Child O' Mine has at least 2 distinct themes inside. Same with November Rain. Not to mention Coma and Estranged.
I actually did grow up knowing the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody because my mother and brother both listened to it quite a bit. While I do love the song I do not play it very often but it always leaves a smile on my face because it reminds me of when my brother would listen to that. Now it is pretty much my only memory of him since he died when I was 5.
Great list, but I've got a few more overplayed/overrated to add here: 1) Black Sabbath - Paranoid Everyone and their mother had to play it in their bands at least once. 2) Metallica - Nothing Else Matters Every time a random person takes the guitar they start playing the 4 open strings saying "see, I can play Metallica" 3) CCR - Fortunate Son Every Vietnam movie/game/end credits/whatever had this song. It's great but overplayed to the full limit. 4) Europe - Final Countdown In the VH1 days, every countdown had to end with Final Countdown. Not counting the million other occasions you have to sit through it. The synth line went from epic, to meme, to triggered. 5) The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army Damn, it even ended as a football chant, what more can you say? 6) Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water 0-3-5 7) Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You Even the memes got worn out with this one. 8) George Michael - Careless Whisper Maybe it's just me, but I just can't stand this sax line any more… But maybe it's just me, lol 9) Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe no comments here 10) Darude - Sandstorm It was a hit, it got too much radio time, then it was a meme.
@@VisualKez They did not rip it. The only thing that is similar is that descending line cliche and that's it. There is plenty of songs that uses that same descending notes. Also Led Zeppelin won that case.
Stairway for me never gets old, because it was my great uncle’s favorite song, he was robbed of his life at 19 (1978) when in a pro flat track race, he crashed and was run over 3 times, he was paralyzed from the waist down and his fingers were forever disabled to an extent, He passed in 2007 a little over a year after I was born, I have no memory of him that I can remember but stairway to heaven is the only thing I have of him,
Not tryna be a hater but how do you become so close to someone you literally can't remember cause your brain was mush but still be attached to their favorite song. Maybe it's just me, after all idk half of my fam to begin with
Your great uncle had some balls for racing on a flat track. I respect every form of dirt track racer whether they're driving 160mph sprint cars or riding motorcycles on a flat track, because that kind of racing is sketchy as fuck.
Smoke on the water isn't a bad song, the solo is sick as fuck, the riff is iconic, the lyrics are great and the singer makes them work. But then again it's a meme so y'know.
@@deathmeatle3171 smoke on the water is a great song that is performed poorly 99.9% of the time. I dont think smoke on the water is overrated in anyway, but not because i think its amazing. Its not overrated because i don’t think that the general public thinks that it is this amazing song. I think it just has an easy main riff that novice guitarists can play and is just catchy.
I love to hear it once in a while. I know it's overrated af but kudos to Slash and Izzy for their work there. The riffs and solo are smooth as hell and my favorite singing part is Axl's closer.
Yep. GnR has such a distinctive sound--the bass, riffs, solos, and drums, with Axl Rose's voice bringing it all together. It just works so well in many of their songs.
RIP to all graduations who play "Good Riddance", not realizing the F-bomb was dropped two seconds into the song, only to find out when it's too late with the volume turned up to knob 11 at the ceremonies
Overplayed Queen's "We Are The Champions", played in every competition event here in Indonesia, to the point that I avoid listening to this song. It's like the Happy Birthday song for any competition winners here. Europe's "Final Countdown" is another one, played at the beginning of the events.
Yep, to be honest We Are the Champions and We Will Rock You are more overplayed than Bohemian Rhapsody, but Bohemian... is the most overrated of that trio imo.
For people who wanted to hear the parodies he does of the songs on this list here ya go 1:15 Wonderwall 4:16 Good Riddance 5:14 Happy Birthday 6:24 Dance Monkey 7:44 Sweet Child o mine 9:55 Smells Like Teen Spirit 11:28 Rhapsody of Bohemian 13:56 Stairway to Heaven
I truly feel that even though we’ve heard some of the songs so many times they’re definitely not overrated, just overplayed. A few of these songs are epic and stand the test of time.
All are overrated in a sense: peooke treat them as the epithome of rock (Bohemian, Stairway) or as the best-or-only-good-song from the band (Teen Spirit, Believing, Sweet Child). The fact that that ain't true makes them overrated.
@@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 I get your point, but Nirvana and Guns n Roses have many other songs that are popular. I will go as far to say that almost every song that has become a staple is to an extent overrated. Bohemian Rhapsody is the biggest offender in my opinion. Since the film, you can't get away from that song. I love rock music (Deep Purple are my favourites), and people will play this song at a party, and be like "I love rock music". I'm not the biggest fan of Queen, but they have a few tracks I like, and those people wouldn't know that one or wouldn't be able to list a DP song other than Smoke on the Water. There's a lot of music out there, as good as some of these staples, but they aren't remembered for one reason or another. With that, I'll end saying that songs are remembered for no particular reason. A song will be remembered because it was played in a film people liked, or it will blow up on Tik Tok for no reason (Fleetwood Mac), or some other reason unrelated to the quality of the song itself.
"The greatest songs of all time" starter pack: Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit Michael Jackson - Billie Jean Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode The Beatles - All of Their 213 Songs The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On Elvis Presley - Jailhouse Rock Aretha Franklin - Respect Okay, I won't lie, seeing lists like those who mentioned mostly these songs on the top helped me a lot years ago to be more interested in music, but over the time, when you're discovering other genres and artists and songs, you'll realize the songs mentioned above aren't neccessarily the greatest ones of all time
True. If these lists cared about certain criteria to what makes a song great orher than fame there would be lots of underrated or underground artists on it. Like Diamanda Galás for example, or Nightwish, or Jinjer, or Opeth, or Igorrr and so on.
My picks - 10 - I love rock n roll - Joan Jett (tedious) 9 - Paranoid - Black Sabbath (nowhere near their best song, just shorter) 8 - Seven Nation Army - White Stripes (a dirge sung in many British soccer grounds) 7 - Eye of the Tiger - Survivor (plodding verses) 6 - Another Brick in the Wall pt 2 - Pink Floyd (great album but one of the weakest songs on there) 5 - Rock the Casbah - the Clash (one of their worst songs but the best known) 4 - Smoke on the Water ‐ Deep Purple (their most overplayed song) 3 - Seasons in the Abyss - Slayer 2 - Under the Bridge - RHCP 1 - Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf (played to death) Honorary mentions - House of the Rising Sun, the Passenger, Space Oddity, Thunderstruck, anything by Oasis
@@shepherdstone1801 It's a shame that band is being remembered by that song. The lyrics are moronic (as is the video), and the tune isn't much better. The Clash did so many much better songs, so why remember them by that one? It may even be their worst one (although Daddy was a Bank Robber and one or two others are contenders.)
Yes I know that have have a million amazing songs such as their cover of Armagideon Time, Garageland, Overpowered By Funk, Koka Koka, Spanish Bombs, The Magnificent Seven, Lost In the Supermarket, and Groovy Times to name a few. But Rock the Casbah is still amazing and the Armadillo in the music video is also awesome.
I remember some of the old songs like this but it wasn't dance monkey, I use to get all the lyrics stuck in my head but hearing songs too many times can be really annoying.
Jokes aside, glad he made the distinction between overrated and just overplayed. Sucks that being exposed to something over and over can make you hate it, even when that thing is otherwise awesome.
Yes, this is something that always grind my gears when I hear someone saying "overrated" on something that it has its merits to be recognized as something great. For example I got sick of hearing 'Enter sandman' by Metallica but I can't say that the song sucks, I'm just tired of listening to it during my entire teenage years...
It's true that Good Riddance is good, despite being massively overplayed. Seven Nation Army is kind of like Sweet Child of Mine. Simple and also overplayed. I think Immigrant Song is just as famous as Stairway to Heaven these days.
So guess we will sing "Octavarium" for your birthday from now on. Not sure how that will bo over with the old folk. LOL. Dance Monkey was one of Addie's favourites a couple years back, but I did get annoyed with it. The Bohemian Rhapsody clip was hilarious, Steve. Oh I do love that song though. Journey is one of my favourite bands too but "Don't stop believin" is absolutely over played. Great video and very entertaining.
Hi, Mama T., how goes? 😀 Wish Octavarium was even an option with my family! 😆 Well, Addie must have been about two by that time, right? As a toddler song it works perfect, I guess! Otherwise, I am afraid, it's not for me, either! 😖
Thanks Mama T! Super bummed my birthday just passed. I would've loved to hear you all sing Octavarium for me! 😁 I think the only reason I even knew "Dance Monkey" was because Jenny would play it for the girls. I hated it the first time I heard it. Haha! I guess it IS a good song to dance to? I don't know. Still shoot me. Haha! 😆
Well almost. The funny thing is that she doesn't sing like that on the rest of the album. Nor does she do the Indian axent she does in Dance Monkey. I first heard it in full in Nicaragua. The first few times it was like meh what evs. But then like the fith time or something for what ever reason I thought of my real cutesy little friend Gabby. Thus now It makes me think of Gabby and I like the tune.
The story behind Good Riddance is actually pretty interesting. The 1994 demo version, while still just Billy Joe Armstrong on acoustic, has an entirely different feel to it. The song pretty much went from being a “F*ck you,” to one intended person(s), to being a sentimental ballad to another. It’s bizarre how the lyrics themselves didn’t change, but the context of the lyrics did!
@@aydennso Agreed. Overplayed songs should automatically be put into a sin bin for a few years before being allowed to be played again. They'd be like new songs after that I reckon.
I agree with Smells Like Teen Spirit. My sister would play it in the car and at one point I was like “Please, there are other good songs by them you know, even on the same album.” Not necessarily overrated, but overplayed.
Yes I definitely agree with you. The amount of disappointment I get when I hear people say they listen to Nirvana but they only listen to Teen Spirit is a lot lol.
It is a great song....but Come as you are and Lithium are way better. But the SLTS video is amazing and those of us old enough to remember it when it first came out.....yeah....I'm 40....it was life changing.
@@sundareshvenugopal6575 I don’t think they are overrated at all. They are an amazing band and revolutionized music. But they are also very unique and some people won’t like it, and that’s ok.
@@sundareshvenugopal6575 Yeah, I’m sure you’re in a band with one of the greatest Rock Frontman, Guitarists, Keyboardist/Bassist/Musical Composers, and Drummers with 8 Diamond Albums that defined music as we know it…huh??
I made sure to permanently memorize singing and playing stairway, just in case I ever get challenged to play the greatest song in the world by a demon in the middle of the road. And yes, Levee is heavier and also moves your soul but it gets played on ultimate classic playlist rock stations just as much as stairway. If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now, it's just the Stevie T waiting to assail you for not subscribing.
I can't believe Stairway to Heaven is the most overrated yet there are people who still haven't heard of it, the hip hop scene is under a rock when it comes to classic music.
A lot of people haven't heard of it... Because they live in another country ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Some songs like we will rock you or don't stop me now by queen are popular world wide, but I've only knew about bohemian rhapsody and stairway to heaven when I was 13. Because it's simply only popular in USA, Canada, Britain and western Europe. Like we forgot about the rest of the world
Well, when you are talking about "mainstream" audience in USA you are mostly refering to the WASP audience. In other demographics the rules of "everybody should have heard it" doesn't apply.
70s, 80s and 90s kids were mad and everyone would want to play this song the funny thing is the the song was restricted back then in guitar stores but now many ppl never even heard that song😄
@@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 bullshit, it is not a ethnic difference, it is generational, everyone knew Led Zeppelin before 2000. what happened was that pop took over in the 80s, so classic rock began to be flushed out. By the 90s those bands became tributes of themselves, so by the 2000s everyone saw led zeppelin as old white man music like you described.
6:53 Dust in the Wind by Kansas, was also a finger exercise, that was turned into an epic song. From Wikipedia: Kerry Livgren devised what would be the guitar line for "Dust in the Wind" [from] a finger exercise for learning fingerpicking. His wife, Vicci, heard what he was doing, remarked that the melody was nice, and encouraged him to write lyrics for it. The rest, as they say, is history.
I remember the first time I heard Bohemian Rhapsody. I was like between the ages of 5-9 and it came on the radio. I turned to my dad (A huge rock fanatic, I miss him) and flat out said "That was the weirdest song I've ever heard." I think he nearly died laughing.
Sweet Child o’mine is more overplayed than overrated. In a time when “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” and “More Than Words” was the basic formulaic ballad every hair band had to have to catch the female audience, at least Gn’R’s ballad has a kick ass bridge (that the shitty commercial radio stations cut out, to Stevie’s point) that still rocked your face off. Their whole debut album was a bit of a fcuk you to the radio establishment and arguably the greatest debut album ever, even with the majority of the songs a little too edgy for the radio stations. Overplayed sure but that solo is pure gold and you can take that one to heart!
I loved "Every rose...". We had "work week" at school where we were asked to work somewhere for free for a week as part of our schooling. I managed to get a spot at our local radio. The Radio boss told me that I had to be careful about what music I played, as the daytime music was mostly for "housewives at home dancing with their broom". At the time I was more into hard rock, so that posed a problem to me. I didn't know much music apart from hard rock and everything else that I hated. I understood that I had to play something softer, so the "Power Ballads" and "More power ballads" compilation albums were life savers for me. When I think back on that time, I an't help feel sorry for everybody involved: myself, the dancing housewives and the boss of the radio. I would have had a much better background to do the same thing now...
Dude, he wasn't dissing your band, why you gotta piss on someone else's? So you like GNR, good for you, but the other ballads you mentioned hold a special place for someone else. Personally never dug any of them. I am sure if I dug through the realms of rock (from the same time period,) I'd find some songs(ballads, as per year take,) that were just as complex as GNR's "Sweet Child." So because it moves you, that's awesome. Does everyone hold your opinion? Probably not. You should crank it up as much as you like though.
9:26 Contrary to popular belief, Kurt was well aware he was writing the “ultimate pop song” with Teen Spirit. In fact, his journals indicate an intense desire to be a famous rockstar in his early years. It’s just, he got there and probably found out it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be and didn’t make him much happier
I think Steve should definitely do a video on overused songs in movies. I know the Twilight Zone theme and The Ecstasy of Gold (from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly) have been used to death when it comes to most movies.
The Whitney Huston version of "I will always love you." It is 100% overrated. She took a sweet, personal, heart felt song and turned in into a histrionic nightmare that is heard everywhere. I can't go anywhere without hearing her screech at the top of her lungs " I will always love yooooooooooou!"
I refuse to listen to Whitney's version. it's very generous of Dolly to say she admires Whitney's version when she actually butchered the hell out of it!
Happy birthday was a surprising entry on this list, since it doesn't really get played on the radio much. Or at all. In any case, you might want to check out Charles Cornell's overkill version of it. It's sublime.
The comment about Led Zeppelin is how I feel about Queen. They have so many great (and quite frankly better) songs that get completely overshadowed by Bohemian Rhapsody's popularity and meme factor.
I like queen but I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan. I’m a die hard zeppelin fan but what I will say is with queen they got so popular and the movie too that you have a lot of bandwagoners that think they’re queen fans and think that BR is the only song they have. They’ve never listen to other kick ass songs queen has to offer
@@ledgaming6489 In my opinion, Killer Queen and Crazy Little Thing Called Love are better than Bohemian. They just have that Kick and drive to them that Bohemian honestly doesn't have

Bob Seager's 'Old Time Rock and Roll'.. ..So overplayed that when I hear it, causes natural wax to form up and melt straight down my ear canals immediately hardening and clogging them up from any sound ... followed up by a migraine.
That's the official Boomer anthem. If you want a bunch of old folks shuffling on the dance floor at a wedding, play Old Time Rock and Roll. Gets em going every time
I think he's actually saying, "I don't need to hear Time of your life (good riddance) anymore, I'd rather listen to the warning album as it's under rated". He doesn't explicitly say he believes that's the album the song is from. I think this because there's a video edit in between him saying I don't need hear it again and everything on the warning album is underrated, so there's a period of time between both statements we don't see.
I think Dance Monkey was supposed to be a weird niche hit that is kinda just...like, on the same level as Feel it Still by Portugal. The man or something. But it turned into a really massive, unexpected hit comparable to Somebody that I Used to Know or Royals. I'm proud of it, not necessarily because it deserves everything it got, but because it managed to compete with the slew of more predictable pop songs available.
Okay I’ve never actually heard these ‘overrated’ songs on the radio or anywhere. All they played is all the mainstream or hip hop stuff, like CardiB, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo or others. And I’ll gladly overplay Wonderwall, Teen Spirit, Bohemian Rhap or Stairway anytime. Edit: sorry the stations I listen to do not have any specific genre, I know one carried mostly 80s stuff but the others are pretty much mainstream. Maybe different with US or other countries.
Yeah, he was referring to rock stations, not top 40 pop. My local radio station has stopped playing teen spirit for the most part, but you can't go a day without hearing the others.
Maybe not so much on the radio (although I don't listen to the radio), but I hear them at house parties, night clubs and wedding disco's all the time. Well maybe not Stairway.
I never get sick of 'Sweet Child O'Mine' or anything from that Appetite album. There are so many layers to those songs that even now when I listen to it (especially through headphones) I pick up on something I never noticed before - could be a bass line, vocal harmony or guitar lick. I also remember it coming out and the impact it made. Your rendition was very funny. I totally agree with you about 'Dance Monkey'.
@@gatto481 Fair enough. I think he's one of the best rock vocalists of all time - especially on that album (maybe not so much now as he is nearing 60).

Welp, I grew up living next door to that psycho (Axl)’s step mom and I recall being totally sick and tired of his bs even when I was 10. A local radio station in my area often goes on week long tangents where every day it would play Prince's "Raspberry Beret" every time I would tune in. I now despise that song because I've heard it too much and it's getting VERY annoying
My list (not in an order): Rock You Like A Hurricane (scorpions) Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes) The Final Countdown (Europe) Highway To Hell (AC/DC) Fortunate Son (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
i have to say, i fully agree with this list but i just think that Back In Black by AC/DC deserves a spot on this list, reason being not that its overrated just overplayed, i find that in movies/tv shows, if something cool is happening e.g. someone wearing a black leather jacket and shades is walking to his car or just walking in general, all you hear is Back in black, I hit the sack, I've been too long, I'm glad to be back, Yes, I'm let loose, From the noose, That's kept me hanging about etc. ya know what i mean???
Fun fact my middle name is Bohemian and my parents where into a lot of things and one of there obsession where Queen and they called me bohemian Rhapsody
Haha I knew “stairway to heaven” would be on the list! I skip it every time on my playlist too haha 😅 I’ve listened to “Good Riddance” a LOT when I was younger, together with so many Green Day songs and I still like it, maybe because they don’t play it a lot here, so it is actually not very overplayed. Also, Bohemian Rhapsody...well, I’m a huge Queen fan, so I’ve listen to it a million times, but I never get tired. Today was a really long day at work...I started my morning with a dromedary that needed to be operated on...let me tell you, they weight a lot and if you have to hold his head up and help him during the anesthesia the weight is apparently even more 😅...and it was only the beginning of the day! 😅 Tomorrow will be a loooong day too, so...YAY!😖 As always, great video Stevie!

Thing is though, the cliche's are the cliche's for a reason. They work because people like them.
Dance Monkey played for what seemed like 24 hours a day after it came out. I couldn't get away from it and my wife played it every day as well. I'm so glad it has fallen off. You're lucky to have not heard it.
I'd actually recommend checking out Leo's Metal cover of Dance Monkey. It's amazing
Check out Leo Morachioli's - dance monkey. its actually good.
🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
It got its initial success thanks to being overplayed. Kenny Everett, a British DJ played it constantly.
I thought that Frog Leap did an alright job with a metal cover.
You gotta be a little toasted( little bit of whatever that brings you down and beer) and out of tune to play it well. It helps bring that depression through and really sell it.
That's because the bass is a 32nd behind the guitar in the original, but cover bands play it synched.
I'm going with overplayed rather than overrated here....
My local classic rock station plays "Jump" by Van Halen literally Every. Single. Goddamn. Day. I like the song, but I can go without hearing it again.

Yeah the 30th anniversary of his death is November 24th of this year
I think Sweet Child is so good because of how it was made. It gives the song a feeling of someone playing a riff, then the band gradually building into this epic rock song. If it started out fully epic, it'd be less epic
Dude...
Agreed
Great list, but I've got a few more overplayed/overrated to add here:
1) Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Everyone and their mother had to play it in their bands at least once.
2) Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
Every time a random person takes the guitar they start playing the 4 open strings saying "see, I can play Metallica"
3) CCR - Fortunate Son
Every Vietnam movie/game/end credits/whatever had this song. It's great but overplayed to the full limit.
4) Europe - Final Countdown
In the VH1 days, every countdown had to end with Final Countdown. Not counting the million other occasions you have to sit through it. The synth line went from epic, to meme, to triggered.
5) The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
Damn, it even ended as a football chant, what more can you say?
6) Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
0-3-5
7) Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You
Even the memes got worn out with this one.
8) George Michael - Careless Whisper
Maybe it's just me, but I just can't stand this sax line any more… But maybe it's just me, lol
9) Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe

10) Darude - Sandstorm
It was a hit, it got too much radio time, then it was a meme.

3 - Seasons in the Abyss - Slayer
2 - Under the Bridge - RHCP
1 - Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf (played to death)

I’m going to disagree with rock the Casbah. Yes it is played frequently, but a song like it is a banger no matter how much it is played.
@@shepherdstone1801 It's a shame that band is being remembered by that song. The lyrics are moronic (as is the video), and the tune isn't much better. Underrated: Stevie’s singing versatility
Don't care what anyone says, I will never tire of Stairway to Heaven
There is a truly overrated band.
It's a good song but "Kashmir" is better.
@@sundareshvenugopal6575 I don’t think they are overrated at all. They are an amazing band and revolutionized music. But they are also very unique and some people won’t like it, and that’s ok.
@@MelancholyPageyBoy I listened to them. Bad music. That is not even music. A broken record sounds a lot better.
Best comment ever.
Great list. Funny as. One song in particular I used to like but now I'm so over it I switch the radio off is Don MacLean "American Pie".
Yes!!! Once sat in a bus driving back for hours girls singing this. on a school trip.
There is a song you don't ever get bored to hear, even if you heard it million times. It's John Cage's 4'33.
And when you think about it; you've kinda been listening to that song endlessly on repeat since you were born
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ah you're a man of culture as I see
I get bored of waterwalk. My gf plays it everyday while I'm trying to sleep
@@lasagnasux4934 huh?
I can't believe Stairway to Heaven is the most overrated yet there are people who still haven't heard of it, the hip hop scene is under a rock when it comes to classic music.
A lot of people haven't heard of it... Because they live in another country ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some songs like we will rock you or don't stop me now by queen are popular world wide, but I've only knew about bohemian rhapsody and stairway to heaven when I was 13.
I would make number 1 "Final Countdown"
Fun fact: Wonderwall was so overrated that one of the members of Oasis didn’t like the song!
Pretty much the case for every overrated song.
I heard it was pretty much the whole band that were sick of it.
Bruh the members of Oasis actually didn’t expect it to do that well.
Liam hates Wonderwall lmao
Stevie covered that in one his videos. I think.

Dust in the Wind by Kansas, was also a finger exercise, that was turned into an epic song.
From Wikipedia:
Kerry Livgren devised what would be the guitar line for "Dust in the Wind" [from] a finger exercise for learning fingerpicking.
More the words... 🤮
But More than words is actually more complex than Sweet Child
@@philipkarovski281 100% The song actually has a super interesting structure.
Steve: “Click the link”
Me: my rickroll senses are tingling
9:26 Contrary to popular belief, Kurt was well aware he was writing the “ultimate pop song” with Teen Spirit. In fact, his journals indicate an intense desire to be a famous rockstar in his early years. It’s just, he got there and probably found out it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be and didn’t make him much happier

The Jaws theme should also be on that list
@@mysteryheart53 I have no idea how I forgot about that one, but you’re 100% correct.

They just have that Kick and drive to them that Bohemian honestly doesn't have
@@zenon459 Those songs are not better then Bohemian Rhapsody. Bohemian Rhapsody is a 49 cord epic, with modal mixture, key changes, chromatic runs and different rhythms sections. Crazy Little Thing Called Love is a simplistic rockabilly song with 6 different cords. Killer Queen is also a complex song with 29 different cords, and key changes, but not quite Bohemian Rhapsody.

It's a rehash of a better Seger song, "Rock and Roll Never Forgets," and it has a"get off my lawn" vibe.

Correction: Time of your life was from the Nimrod album, not the Warning album. The former is one of their best and extremely underrated as a whole.
Yep. I had to go back and see how he got on the Warning album to make sure I didn’t space out. Love that record.
Love both of those albums, but I would say Nimrod is a much better album
I prefer Dookie and Basket Case, still it was overplayed over my youth...

It depends on what radio you're on i guess.

I never get sick of 'Sweet Child O'Mine' or anything from that Appetite album. i have to say, i fully agree with this list but i just think that Back In Black by AC/DC deserves a spot on this list, reason being not that its overrated just overplayed, i find that in movies/tv shows, if something cool is happening e.g. someone wearing a black leather jacket and shades is walking to his car or just walking in general, all you hear is Back in black, I hit the sack, I've been too long, I'm glad to be back, Yes, I'm let loose, From the noose, That's kept me hanging about etc. ya know what i mean???
