As someone who likes to mashup songs that I like for fun, I was so happy when I learned that you can practically make any two songs go together if you mess around with the tempo and pitch enough. I just love the idea of two of my favourite songs being combined to create something I love even more and learning this has been a game changer.
I was a nightclub DJ for 20 years. In the '80s/'90s, we were doing this ALL the time. Almost ALL of the 12" dance singles we bought had the instrumental version, or even the acapella version of the song, on the b-side of the extended mix. We used these to drop a completely different beat or lyrics over a current song or just make our own live remixes in general. This is now called "mash-up", but it really is nothing new. Of course, we did this with Technics SL1200 turntables, not on all the digital/computer voodoo they use today. And to top all that off, we did it LIVE, on the fly in front of a full dance club!
Totally agree buddy. In a different time, DJs were literally mashing everything and anything on Vinyl. Now the skill set has changed to match the tech.
I know how true this is as my older brother who was a DJ was doing the exact same thing. He used a combination of records and CD turntables to make his mixes. I performed along with him at a few events but I worked as a VJ. Using my Korg video mixer I created visual mashups to go with his musical ones.
@@fryloc359 You need to understand beats and measures in music. Then you learn how to count beats per minute. Then you have to learn how to manipulate the record(s) on the platter using the headphones and mixer. It is very involved, and takes a lot of practice, for sure!
@@ThatRascalMerlin A friend of mine bought digital turntables and tried to learn how to mix. It was hard. As cool as it is, I don't thinkI'd be able to do it very well.
I find it interesting how some of them worked and some just didn't. Like Journey and Puddle of Mudd (Journey of Mudd?) worked pretty well, but Weezer and Bon Jovi just fell apart. However Linkin Park and the Beegees really surprised me. How did you come up with these? Did you have one you like best? I just don't have an ear for mash ups, but I imagine there's a theory behind it. Awesome video as always. Love you so much. I'd never hit you. 😍
Journey of Mudd!! Haha! I like that a lot. Honestly, I just went to that website and chose songs that had similar tempos, and hoped they would work! Haha! Also, I'm super appreciative that you would never hit me!! Thanks!! 😃
I may answer that with this sentence: "Music is like a puzzle, and the songs their pieces' packs." Just demount the packs properly, place them with another ones, make the needing ajustments, and here ya have: a top-notch bootleg (older way to call mashups)
Sweet Home Alabama was one of my grandfather's favorites before he died in April of 2020. That mashup actually sounded pretty good. Thanks for reminding me of the happy memories he and I had together.
great analogy about modern pop songs being like square puzzle pieces - as long as the they're in the same key, you can just take any group of 4 or 8 measures and play them over any other 4 or 8 measures.
Stevie: you guys are gonna hate me for this one. Me: no i won’t I could never hate you ste- *Achy Breaky Heart starts to play* Me:………*Unsubscribes* No jk lol love you Stevie, awesome video man!
Loved it, the LP and Beegees Mashup went together really well. Another one that might work well would be Hash Pipe by Weezer and Lithium by Nirvana for the vocals. Or something by Primus for the instrumental, that'd be funny to hear.
The first time I ever went on a cruise was in 2014, and there was a poolside DJ, and all he ever did was mashups. All day long. It's cool for a few minutes. It's mind-numbing after an hour.
This video is exactly what I needed to cheer me up! I'm recovering from tonsilitis at the moment, laughing hurt, but it was worth it! I'd love to see you do another one of these Stevie! :)
It's very impressive that you meticulously recreated every single one of the instrument tracks -- the GnR track (Welcome to the Jungle) was particularly realistic.

Back when I used to go to clubs as a kid my favorite thing was to watch the DJ work. It was something I always wanted to learn but never did.
Thanks!! 😃
I may answer that with this sentence:
"Music is like a puzzle, and the songs their pieces' packs."
Just demount the packs properly, place them with another ones, make the needing ajustments, and here ya have: a top-notch bootleg (older way to call mashups)
Wow, this was even more entertaining than I thought it would be. Totally waiting for the next part
This is such a great video, we need a series of these
This is good .You should probably continue this as a series.
Check out Bill McLintock's channel; you won't be disappointed.👍❤️
Stayin' Alive In The End, a classic for generations to come
When Fly started playing I immediately thought of “I want crinkle fries” the Arby’s commercial XD
I've been subscribed with notifications on for 4 years. Why did I miss this video
He looks like a chemist discovering stuff.
“It works!”
“Why does it work?”
Sweet Home Alabama was one of my grandfather's favorites before he died in April of 2020. That mashup actually sounded pretty good. Thanks for reminding me of the happy memories he and I had together.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
great analogy about modern pop songs being like square puzzle pieces - as long as the they're in the same key, you can just take any group of 4 or 8 measures and play them over any other 4 or 8 measures.
I wish you turned this into a series, i still enjoy watching this video!
Stevie: you guys are gonna hate me for this one.
Me: no i won’t I could never hate you ste-
*Achy Breaky Heart starts to play*
Me:………*Unsubscribes*
No jk lol love you Stevie,
awesome video man!
This has a good potential as a series! It is very refreshing for the channel :) I really loved that.
“Staying alive in the end” was the shit!!!
Holy shit Stevie this really needs more views!! A part two with a different name might work!
Gotta be the most entertaining video I’ve watched in awhile. Loved this one Steve!
Wow!! That means a lot! Thanks Jack!! 😃
The fact that you're aware of puddle of mudd's recent live cover performance is what made me crack up even more lmfao 🤣💀
I think he even made video about that "performance" xd
Journey of the mudd
"Making up words to rhyme the rest isn't music, it's poetry"
-Eminem
Nice Eminem the Poetry God
@@smitsonavane6278 He is the Rap God for sure... He isn't even a contender for "poetry God", though
If I get kicked out of my apartment for laughing so loud, I'm blaming you.
We need a full version of the In The End and Stayin’ Alive mash-up NOW 🕺
10:04 that is the best Bon Jovi cover I have ever heard in my life
"Disco Danzig" was the mash up I didnt realise I needed to hear.
Also "Motorhead & Bob Marley - Killed By Exodus" is superb
I like how Psychosocial is the only song that got flagged and automatically added to the description.
I wish you a good recovering! Think positive AND put your Energy vibrate in high frequency. You Will recover faster
@@juanpabloporraslara5318 Thank you Juan! 😄
@@brookieb538 de nada! God bless you!
STEEVEEE. Please more of these plus the full version of the mashups❤
It's very impressive that you meticulously recreated every single one of the instrument tracks -- the GnR track (Welcome to the Jungle) was particularly realistic.
that's not what he did
@@rossclutterbuck1060 he did for the first few songs, def didn't use the original GN'R stems.
"Welcome to the jungle" and "Achy Breaky Heart" that's a genius and hilarious mix!!! ;-) Really funny!!
Mashup 1: Yes please
Mashup 2: HOW DOES IT FIT THAT WELL
Mashup 3: meh, it's funny at least
Mashup 4: Achy Breaky Jungle? I like...
Mashup 5: Dude... how is it this perfect
Mashup 6: .......no
Mashup 7: good until the chorus hits
Mashup 8: Bon no-vi
Mashup 9: NO STOP PLEASE OMG NOOO
You know Bon Jovi’s vocals are naturally crazy high when Weezer drops him like 80 octaves. I gotta wonder what would happen if you took Weezer all the way up and left Bon Jovi as is
6:31 I instantly burst into tears I was not expecting that
