I'm pretty sure it not the song itself they hate but mostly the circumstances of his they created the songs and the fact that the songs got super popular like maybe for a lot of them they thought just like curt Conan did is that they thought that they had created way better songs with more feeling heart and mean and way more work out into them.

I believe songs like American Woman and Smoke on the water were based on riffs the guitarists used to warm up with as well.
It's interesting to hear about how some of these major artists can hate songs that sometimes really helped put them on the map. But if that's all that one becomes associated with, I can see how it can wear one down.

Speaking from experience. When you first write a song, you are in a certain place mentally. Fast forward 10+ years, you are in a different place. Plus, you've probably improved in all areas. So it's embarrassing to go back to your old stuff. Especially if it was a #1 hit, and have to play it every day for 50 years! Haha! 😆

Actually not surprised about the examples, because most of these people are not entirely agreeable in general. I also believe it's inversely proportional to the obligational feeling toward the fans to play the song live, plus airplay frequency in the heyday, plus recording sales. Actually, since I've never had to perform Album of Epicness live, I never really got sick of those songs. The only thing that makes me cringe is my vocals on some of those songs. I've worked on my singing a LOT since then. But songs like Gangsta Djent, I'm still super proud of!! 😃

The fact that Cherry Pie was their "image" when another really popular song by them - Uncle Tom's Cabin - was SOOO much better. I'm also sure they had many other great tracks! It's a shame.

That entire album was great. Youre the only hell your mama ever raised, was one of my favorites, and Mr. Rainmaker...neither were commercial hits, but were better songs imo than the radio hits. Blind Faith too... and Bed of Roses. All great tracks.

actually kurt hates smells like teen spirit because its name was based off a deodorant brand
his ex girlfriend once said that he smelled like it by writing : "Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit" and after they broke up and he wrote this song and used the song's title based on what his ex wrote but seeing that this song made the deodorant famous Kurt hated the song and started performing it in a bad way to make people hate it but whatever he did ... he was a legend so yea
