This is one of those movies where I did not expect the plot twist and was completely caught off guard. Then when I think back on it I notice all the subtle clues.
It's crazy how you totally don't realize what's up until the reveal. Then, when you watch the film again, it's incredibly obvious the whole way through.
Rewatch the fight scenes... he's striking at guys without looking. He senses them coming behind him. The second time watching it takes on a whole new meaning.
Yeah you made the comment that you never saw him trained her any. That's because he was never trained. Every move he made and every fight he was in was God moving him. It wasn't any skill he had himself.
When this movie came out little did we know New World Order could've had something to do with how little promotion it received. This is the kind of production that could've generated a lot more revenue than it did. Sadly Worldwide satanic worship is more popular than Christianity today. Our very own leaders attack the churches and their followers.
Hands down one of my favorite movies ever. There's so much to it. Eli (Denzel Washington) represents good religion, which is relationship with God through Christ, discipline, patience, and complete faith. Carnegie (Gary Oldman) represents bad religion, which is self-serving, manipulating the Word for self-gain, and generally being a false prophet. Eli was blind throughout the whole moving representing the verse from the Bible 2 Corinthians 5: 7 "For we walk by faith, not by sight". Learning how Eli is working with God it helps improve a lot more scenes when you watch it a second time. He doesn't do a lot without listening to God which adds a whole different context to scenes like when he encounters the first high-jackers in the beginning and the main one asks "Are you listening?" and Eli replies "I am now." In other words he was listening to God's instructions prior to that moment and once he received the information only then did he give that guy his full attention. The part where they were having the shootout in the town when Eli was trying to leave and you were like "Can he not be killed?" to answer that, basically yes. I think he mentions it a little bit, but essentially he had a covenant with God in that Eli wasn't allowed to let anyone touch the Bible until he got it to where it needed to go, so the entire time and including that shootout, Eli could not be hurt because he was under divine protection. It was only when someone else touched the Bible, Carnegie, that he was then able to be hurt which is when Carnegie shot him. There's so many layers to this film which makes it so interesting to me, I'm so glad to see you react to this, hands down one of my favorite films.
i dont think there is such a thing as "good" religion. Any religion is very dangerous in itself. It is in its nature. If you commit to something so hard and claim it is the only truth, you loose the ability to learn and evolve into something better. Youre stuck with ancient "knowledge" wich is outdated, not relevant or even true anymore because religious conclusions were wrong or mislead. Better keep a free and open mind.
That is one excellent parallel view! To see all that (and I do mean SEE) is in itself providential to me. Much of understanding the Bible takes that same divine providence. " It was only when someone else touched the Bible, Carnegie, that he was then able to be hurt..." I got the chills when I read that!
Eli doesn't really represent good religion, he represents a mistake that a lot of well intentioned religious people make. "I was so busy keeping it safe that I forgot to live by what I learned from it." Like staying to the path instead of helping that couple on the road. Making the bible more important than people. That's not good religion.
If you watch the movie again knowing that he is blind you can see all the moments where he trips over things and reacts to things by hearing. This a true masterpiece of acting by Denzel.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Eli is actually blind in the movie and his faith and the power of god acted through him allow him to complete impossible things for a man with no sight. When he flick the lighter he moves his head over the flam to make sure it’s lit, he only shoots the cat after it makes a noise, didn’t see the no trespassing sign, kicks the fist stair to the old folks house. Subtle ways to show his sight is gone. Fantastic story telling.
What's really cool, when you re-watch this movie, knowing Eli is blind the whole time, you then can catch all the clues. He often fights in the dark, senses birds in the air without looking, doesn't look at people when they talk to him, and his cool sun glasses.
Pay very close attention to these scenes at 6:00 and 18:50. He says, "It's not my concern" and then goes on about his day. However, it was that SAME biking crew that got him into trouble in the bar. If he would've saved those random travelers (most likely killing the bikers), then he would not have had to kill them in the bar. WHICH would mean that he could pass through the town without Carnegie noticing him. Solara is sent WITH Eli (probably through "God") to remind him of his purpose. Which is brought back to his attention at 18:50, which is to do more for others than he does to himself. It's not about the book, it's about the teachings of the book. He forsakes those teachings by letting the travelers die, so Solara is sent with him to put him back on the right path.
Interesting perspective. I feel it also highlights how varied the witnessing of the same event can be interpreted, very eloquently by the way 👍 which changes the entire perspective of the event.
Honestly one of Denzel's best movies (besides Man on Fire). Gary Oldman is great in everything I love this movie because It doesn't shove religion down your throat and they talk about how it can be used as a weapon to manipulate people. The Bible and Christianity are rarely talked about in a non-positive way so it's refreshing to get a religion-centered movie that doesn't push it in your face or try to make you believe, etc.
"The Bible and Christianity are rarely talked about in a non-positive way" Maybe your friends with too many Christians because I swear these days everyone has shit to talk about Christianity lol (I'm an Atheist). But yeah the way this movie handles religion is great, acknowledges both sides of religion while not forcing one message or the other down your throat.
@@Xenomorphasized I'm talking about how its rarely talked about in FILM, more specifically when it came out, not in a general conversation. Over the years conversations have definitely shifted, but when it comes to mixing religion and movies its rarely done this way.
@@filmandtvbuff Ah ok yeah that makes more sense, my bad. And yeah usually movies about religion seem to take a "side", either "religion bad" or "religion good", not much room for nuance.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. The end reveal blew my mind. Denzel is one of the greatest actors working, and this movie just proves that. His subtle acting before everything is revealed at the end is just so so good.
My friend dscribed this movie as "Daredevil in the world of the Fallout games" 😆 Great performance by the cast, love the cinematography and the action scenes. The twist was good and the ending was perfect 🤩
Glad you reacted to this man, it's one of my favorite movies. It also has a strong meaning to me when it comes to Christianity/the Bible in the film and how God looked out for Eli in this movie.
if you watch the movie again, you can totally notice a lot of hints that he’s blind. when they arrive at the old couple’s house he hits the first stair of their porch to know where the stairs begin. or when he finds the dead body at the beginning you can see he doesn’t look at it, he only smells it. then he knows it’s there
There was a prequel sort of animated thing on the special features that shows the story of the villain. Growing up in a trailer home with a abusive father. Father who watched and gave everything he had to a preacher on tv. Or something alone those lines. Hence the vililan realizing "the book" could be used as a weapon if used right.
I love that it is implied that God is seemingly protecting him and giving him abilities to dispatch of people with ease. As he was meant to protect the book and bring it to the end. My friend didn't like that the war happened because of the book. But as a Christian, there is nothing wrong in admitting there are people who indeed use it more as a weapon today sadly to gain lots of money, followers and power. And in today's world more and more seem to be abusing it for their own purpose. It's annoying because a door portion of us are legit followers of Christ. We help everyone, we donate to everything. Most food banks are through churches. Again, not saying Christians are perfect of course, but I do love the premise that in this movies world, the book can be used for good or evil depending on who gets it.
This is one of my favorite Denzell Washington movies. Another great one that nobody has really reacted to is the 1998 movie Fallen with Denzell Washington, John Goodman and Donald Sutherland.
What I find so interesting about this movie is its pacing. It's paced just this side of being too slow, and yet with it's slow movement, it works so well.
whats funy is the second time you go through you realize how many badass moments arn't :> like staring the guy down that didn't shoot him...he probably just didn't know he was there, or only vaugly, or only killing the shooters when they shot him :>
Ooh I love this film! I admit I didn’t appreciate it when I was a child but as an adult it’s def one the better films I’ve seen :) also love Mila Denzel and Gary oldman in this 🤧
This film is incredible, everything about it was well done. Although I grew up on the bible I'm not religious, yet still understood the message. I think that's what makes it such an amazing story. And what can I say about Denzel and his permance other than "wow".
When you go back and watch it you’ll be like, “I can’t believe I didn’t get that he was blind!”. From the very beginning; 1 he doesn’t shoot the cat until it makes a sound. 2 he kicks the door in and doesn’t look around or check the corners but stands perfectly still and listens for movement. 3 when he wakes up and goes to the window he doesn’t shield his eyes or flinch at the sunlight cause he just feels the warmth on his face.

actor for George is so underrated in his scene where Martha dies. I was like man this guy is evil and horrible but then just from his tone and yelling/sobbing you can get a glimpse that he did it all to protect Martha.
Great review ! The plot twist....man o man...saw this in theater and everyone kinda gasped when it revealed 😂...you should do the whole Mad Max catalog my guy 💯
The game Fallout 3 got me into the post apocalyptic genre and i saw this in theatres opening night to a barley full theatre. It was sad because this movie was amazing and it's really unique and definitely underrated! Please Primate, look into the movie Big Fish by Tim Burton(even if on your own time)! It's tone and genre is totally different than this movie but, like this one, it's one of the MOST underrated movies i've ever seen!
So glad you reacted to this. I love this movie. It is such a good movie and I never hear anyone talk about it. Great reaction. Another great apocalyptic movie is The Road. It is a sad movie but it is so good.
The logic of fighting with a melee weapon (the machete, or what-have-you), is that ammunition may be hard to come by, and you don't wanna waste what you can't spare.
You can bet for every one person who claims to have " Supposedly Never " seen or watched LOTR or Star Wars , there are thousands who've never seen this movie.
A better movie than it’s given credit for. There’s a really good movie in here but there are some oddities in the film that doesn’t do well for itself. But overall this is a good film, shot well too, Denzel and Gary Oldman are pretty awesome together, wish they were in more stuff together
Tbf, they literally open the movie with him looking out a window, moving his eyes around, and they're not grey at all. Right out of the gate that would throw anybody off to "oh he's blind".
I literally watched this for the first time yesterday, so, yeah, perfect! I guess he was blind the whole time. God gave him the power of Daredevil. This is a superhero movie.
Thanks for reacting to this. This is one of my favorite Denzel movies and doesn't get reacted to enough. IDK why but its one where I can just watch over n over AND/or have playing the background. May I suggest Inside Man next?
It's similar to Pulp Fiction in that the main character(s) is protected by God because they are on a holy question. Pulp Fiction - they are delivering Marsellus Wallace's soul back to him. This one - well, no explanation really needed about the mission.
This movie is so good I think it's very underrated Denzel Washington is amazing and everything he's in. If you haven't seen Man on Fire that is another amazing Denzel Washington movie and The Equalizer 1 and 2 both very good.
Great reaction mate, very entertaining. Love this movie, watched it several times. The first time I never sae the twist at the end coming. Has a very VERY Madmax vibe to it, and parallel story aspects. This is one of those less known movies that punches above its weight, that I wish was more picked up on in reactions, along with a bunch of others (:
When my friend and I seen this in the theaters, he was a hardcore atheist, I was (still am) a Christian. He had an interesting talk afterwords. Most people are shocked that my best friend for 16 years was a hardcore atheist and vica versa. Just because we believe different things doesn't mean we can't be friends. It's about respecting each other beliefs. Sadly though friendship ended when he moved and I realized he used me the whole time because I was super nice and would buy games, buy food..etc for us to use. Never would come over unless he got something out of it. He never bought anything and only called me when he had nothing better to do. I was young and never caught any of this stuff. I'm ok though, being used may suck, but still have lots of good memories together.
While true Christians are called upon to be selfless and giving, you don't have to be so much so that you get used lol. That wouldn't be worth anyone's time. If you have trouble with this, you need to work more on deciding where and how to spend your energy. Who can really benefit? And who will take it for granted?
Followers of Jesus Christ know " Forgiveness " is a virtue . Forgive your friend and move on who knows what tomorrow may bring into your life. And you may never know, maybe he turned down ' Better Things to Do' to go over to your house , and maybe he never bought anything because he didn't have the means too. He was probably grateful you were his friend ~ We -All may never know the rhymes and reasons why people may treat us certain ways . Bitterness for many can be a hard pill to swallow. " “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ forgave you.”
Great reaction bro! 👍🏿 I saw this film in the theater. I was pleasantly surprised. And you're so right. So many people have the Holy Bible in their possession, and yet they don't live by it.
You have to react to The Road! Another great post apocalyptic movie! If you want real gritty then that’s the movie you got to watch! Does not fantasize post apocalypse at all!
Hidden gems? Found one in my dvds last week, Mirror Mask (2005) from the Jim Henson company. If you liked The Neverending Story (1979) or Labyrinth (1986) but then add in some modern camera cinematography and some c.g.i. to create some fantastic set pieces and art direction that boggles the mind, then you’ll love Mirror Mask (2005)
I'm sorry to say this because I like your channel... but you left out one of the best parts of the movie: when he was in that house where he cooked the cat and listened to his music.
Great reaction , this movie is so underrated and nobody reacts to it . Now that the US government just declassified some UFO cases Another GEM nobody reacts to is M. Night Shyamalan's " Signs " Starring Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix . You should check it out " Prime "

Another great character portrayal by Mr Waits. 🙂
The logic of fighting with a melee weapon (the machete, or what-have-you), is that ammunition may be hard to come by, and you don't wanna waste what you can't spare.
Alcatraz had a Hebrew copy of the Old Testament all along. It can be seen on the same shelf where the newly finished Bible is placed.
I wasn’t aware this was a “hidden” gem. I just figured most people don’t react to it because they’ve already seen it. Awesome movie.
You can bet for every one person who claims to have " Supposedly Never " seen or watched
LOTR or Star Wars , there are thousands who've never seen this movie.
Like Quicksilver said, "You didn't see that coming?"
A better movie than it’s given credit for. There’s a really good movie in here but there are some oddities in the film that doesn’t do well for itself.
But overall this is a good film, shot well too, Denzel and Gary Oldman are pretty awesome together, wish they were in more stuff together
DAMN GOOD TO SEE YOU DO THIS ONE.
DONT THINK ANYONE HAS.
LOVE THIS FLICK.
ENJOY.
( OUT OF THE GROUND WE ARE TAKEN & TO THE DUST WE SHALL RETURN )
Tbf, they literally open the movie with him looking out a window, moving his eyes around, and they're not grey at all. Right out of the gate that would throw anybody off to "oh he's blind".
Knowing you were about 10/11 when this came out makes me feel old as hell because I was turning 30 around then lol. Wow time flies.
Yup. Eli is blind. That's why near the start he says "stay on the path" so he doesn't get lost out there.
This is literally my parents favorite movie. 😍
It’s basically Mad Max mashed-up with Zatoichi, with a sprinkling of monsters…
I literally watched this for the first time yesterday, so, yeah, perfect! I guess he was blind the whole time. God gave him the power of Daredevil. This is a superhero movie.
I remember watching this movie with my dad and it was one of the only movies he picked that I actually liked 😂
Thanks for reacting to this. This is one of my favorite Denzel movies and doesn't get reacted to enough. IDK why but its one where I can just watch over n over AND/or have playing the background. May I suggest Inside Man next?
Another great Denzel movie with an awesome twist is Fallen. Denzel vs. A Demon
It's similar to Pulp Fiction in that the main character(s) is protected by God because they are on a holy question. Pulp Fiction - they are delivering Marsellus Wallace's soul back to him. This one - well, no explanation really needed about the mission.
One of the best postapocalyptic movies i have ever seen
You have soooooo many predictions for such an unpredictable movie
This movie is so good I think it's very underrated Denzel Washington is amazing and everything he's in. If you haven't seen Man on Fire that is another amazing Denzel Washington movie and The Equalizer 1 and 2 both very good.
I wish they left in the cut scene in the blu-ray where the blind woman was reading the braille while carnagie was dying.
Pay attention to the movie poster on the wall: A Boy and His Dog (1975)...Fallout was based on this.
One of my favorite movies of all time and I'm not even religious. I was legit JUST listening to this soundtrack 30min ago.
If I remember the scriptwriter won an oscar for best original screenplay.
He was kicking azz blind the whole damn movie. Stra8 Classic 💯
And you may never know, maybe he turned down
' Better Things to Do' to go over to your house , and maybe he never bought anything because he didn't have the means too. He was probably grateful you were his friend ~ We -All may never know the rhymes and reasons why people may treat us certain ways .
Bitterness for many can be a hard pill to swallow.
" “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ forgave you.”
“For out of the ground we are taken for the dust we are, and to the dust we shall return,”
Great reaction bro! 👍🏿 I saw this film in the theater. I was pleasantly surprised. And you're so right. So many people have the Holy Bible in their possession, and yet they don't live by it.
Yeah, but the Lord was Eli the entire time.
Seen it when it was released but dam... was great watching it with you brother. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it man
George and Marth, two good people out here lmao!
You have to react to The Road! Another great post apocalyptic movie! If you want real gritty then that’s the movie you got to watch! Does not fantasize post apocalypse at all!
This is an underrated and solid movie.
That was a sleeper film. I'll admit I didn't catch he was blind for a long time in the movie.
Another underrated Movie "The Road"
you defintely need to check out "The Road" for real! its a really good end of the world after movie!!
I had to watch this movie a couple times before fully understanding and appreciating it. Really good movie. Denzel was awesome as usual 🥰
I'm sorry to say this because I like your channel... but you left out one of the best parts of the movie: when he was in that house where he cooked the cat and listened to his music.
I love this movie so thanks for reacting.
