I love this movie. I've got the extended Criterion collection of it, and the gag real on that is just fkn fantastic. Billy Bob Thornton does some lines in his Sling Blade accent/voice, just great. I'd buy that disc just for the gag real.
The part that always gets me is when colonel Sharpe says “requesting the permission to shake the hand of the daughter of the bravest man I have ever met” Gets me every damn time
I would personally recommend The Core. It’s from 2003. I always enjoyed the general disaster premise of this movie more so than asteroids. And a stellar cast.
Finally someone recommend it. Even I so happened to recommend this movie in this reaction. I love the way they explained the process of the core and metallic field in that movie. To this day it's still one of my favorite disaster movie followed by Armageddon and Volcano.
What's funny is the fact that the 90s had a huge trend of disaster movies. Thanks to the popularity of Independence Day, it kinda kicked off a lot of filmmakers into a bandwagon of "let's destroy the earth." 🤣🤣🤣
If I remember correctly this came out the same month as the movie deep impact which was another cataclysmic possibly world ending natural disaster but the ending to these movies with significantly different both have an ending that will make you cry but for the very different reasons
I was lucky enough to watch Armageddon on its opening weekend, way back when I was just a teenager. Coincidentally, it was also the grand opening of the brand new theater in my town. 1998 doesn't feel that long ago...
On the DVD commentary, Ben Affleck said that this was a kids movie, because he claims that "Michael Bay had the intelligence of a spoiled child" and Bay said to him to "Shut the F--K up." Guess people can't take a joke.
@@theeLonelyRedPanda Wouldn't that take too long? It seems easier to teach expert drillers to fly and then drill than the other way around. But, since we're talking the end of the world as we know it (love that song, haha), maybe multiple teams working together... just in case. But, at that time, we didn't have extra shuttles to do that
One thing to remember about Gracie is that she was raised by Harry, and the other drillers... she took on their stoic natures and isn't the type to cry lightly.
Fun fact: The President of United States in this movie is in fact the same President/character in The Rock. Highly recommend it as it's another of my favorites Michael Bay films featuring Nicolas Cage and the late Sean Connery, may he RIP.
I am not a Bruce Willis fan by any stretch, but I love this movie. It's in my library in multiple formats, and I have no regrets for that. Deep Impact came out around the same time, and is worth a watch as well. They relate in the same way "Independence Day" and "Mars Attacks" relate to one another.
Your proficiency with analogy marks you as one who might enjoy, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency; methinks. Love, Light, Luck; Health, Wealth, Elf

Fun Fact:They trained NASA officials to watch this film and write down all the faults this movie has. Fun Fact: Michael Bay makes an appearance when they say "Were goin to Hubble"
I had a memorable time watching this with my friends in the theaters. We filled an entire row and we all throughly enjoy it! By the end we pretty much welling up like crazy 😭 . The whole theater enjoy it lots laughs, etc. Come to think of it, it was enjoyed by many movie goers back then. It’s funny how it built so much hate over the years thereafter. 🤷🏼♂️
@Miles Doyle You are going to hell for making such a long comment forcing your inane religious beliefs on normal people. And for not following the rules of writing properly.
this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I think Harry's sacrifice makes so much sense, not only to allow AJ to live but because Harry is a man who finishes what he starts and I couldn't see him leaving that asteroid without knowing for sure that he completed his mission. I think this movie's ending classifies as bittersweet for sure since they saved the world yet they lost comrades along the way. thanks for allowing me to experience one of my favorites again for the first time 😃
I LOVE this movie. One of my favorites of all time. I genuinely sob every time I watch it. Harry and Grace’s last conversation is absolutely heartbreaking.
No.1 movie of 1998 and Michael Bay's biggest film of the time. One of 2 films about Earth being caught in an falling cosmic phenomenon. Deep Impact (Directed by Mimi Leder) which came weeks earlier was more dramatic. Armageddon was a major blend of genres that Bay could play as he did with Bad Boys & The Rock. For Bruce Willis, it was a decade since the original "Die Hard" had made him a movie star. Also it was about a year before we would see his best dramatic performance in M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense. The rest of the cast was so well put together. You knew who some of the actors were. But then you see people that you never expected. The song by Aerosmith, "Don't wanna miss A Thing" became another classic for the group and one of the greatest movie songs ever. All in all, you were not going to miss this movie in the 1990s.
There is no such thing as a zero gravity chamber. There is no place on Earth where one can negate the force of gravity. But...The astronauts train for zero G in what is called the Vomit Comet. This is a hollowed out airplane that flies in the air diving and climbing over and over. On the dive portion, a zero gravity-like effect is achieved called freefall. This effect lasts for only 25 seconds.
GREAT REACTION! Fun fact: A big budget Godzilla movie was coming out that same year. The scene with Little Richard tearing up the inflatable Godzilla was their dig at the movie.
I first saw this movie in Puerto Rico with my Grandparents when I was a kid my Grandmother took me out there every summer to visit my Grandfather I miss them both so much this movie is special to me.
Watching the movie with especially towards the end made me cry again 😭 this movie was heartbreaking. I don't know if you've seen Ice Age but in 5th movie there's a reference of this movie. Also if you want something like this movie then I highly recommend The Core and Volcano. Both these movies are really underrated.
A little bit of trivia...one of Bruce Willis' demands was that his character die because he didn't want a sequel. He felt a sequel would be cheap, but if harry lived the studio would want one if it made a ton of money.
Maybe, Grease, grandma's boy, half baked, Tommy boy, Cone heads, the Mask. Hopefully these are some good suggestions, just holler if you want more. Or throw out a genre or type like holiday or animated and I'll toss you a list.
Fun fact Grace is played by the daughter of Stephen Tyler the lead singer from Aerosmith who sang the main song for this movie "don't wanna miss a thing"

Deep Impact is the better of the two Giant Asteroid movies that came out in 1998. This was the popcorn boom, boom, explosions movie, but Deep Impact is a great-if dated-character piece about the people with key roles during a 'Giant Asteroid' plot.

Other Michael Bay movies that you definitely should watch are: “The Rock (1996)” and “The Island (2005)” Guarantee you’ll have the time to enjoy Including this other movie called “Twister (1996)”
You need to watch deep impact my dude. Came out around the same time and has a young frodo in it. And it's a good movie it just came out around this movie. It has many more great actors in it but I said frodo to get your attention. 😂
Someone being alone in space for 11 years would probably be a legendary Astronaut. NGL. Even the missions on Star Trek, the deep space ones are limited to a max of five years.
I've skydived, bungee jumped and been in a zero gravity chamber before. Skydiving was incredible. It was at 10,000 feet and I would go much higher to do it again. I bungee jumped just 1 week after I skydived. Bungee jump was terrifying for me. I will most likely never do that again. Zero gravity made me feel sick and gave me a headache. Not fun.
During production Ben Affleck went up to Michael Bay and asked if it made more sense to teach astronauts how to drill instead of drillers how to be astronauts. Bay told him to stfu.
6 year old me was obssesed with this movie. I still enjoy it every now and then. Asked my girl if I can have "I don't want to miss a thing" play in our wedding and she agreed xD
I hope you can do Armageddon's companion movie, Deep Impact, which shared the same general plot and came out in the same year. The general consensus is that Armageddon is the more action packed ride, but DI is the better story. Be interesting to get your thoughts on that.

- The day I saw the teaser trailers in theaters for this movie, with TWO space shuttles going up at the SAME TIME, letting you KNOW that if NASA is doing that, then s**t just got REAL real... is the day I knew I'd love it. And I wasn't disappointed. PS... I STILL tear up at that scene near the end when Harry takes AJ's place. Affleck was THE BOMB in ARMEGEDDON YO!!! - Chicks estranged wife, who comes to the landing at the end with their son, played April O'Neil in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, if I'm not mistaken. - I recommend that you ALSO react to DEEP IMPACT, the OTHER "asteroid hits Earth" movie that came out around this time. DEEP IMPACT is less actiony, more character-driven, and actually spends as much time on Earth as it does in space (if not more), but I still enjoy it just as much. You get President Morgan Freeman, Baby Frodo Baggins, Helen Hunt's Clone, and a story that should honestly be made into a multi-season streaming series. Runner up is GREENLAND, a more recent asteroid movie, which I've never seen but looks reaction-worthy.
I like this movie, many are talking about the 'scientific flaws', but if/when we are forced to deal with something like this who knows what could or would work. But mostly, it's a movie, made to entertain you. Get you to react to the tension, the jokes and the final climax of the story. After the risk is explained, everyone knows we aren't watching a movie that will end with them failing and the entire Earth dying.
"Armageddon" is a good movie, but I can't help comparing it to Deep Impact, which came out around the same time, with nearly an identical premise, but it's more grounded and, in my opinion, a better movie. I just really like that two movies were created independently of each other with almost the same story and released in LITERALLY the same year.
I can never decide which of these two I prefer. You're right that Deep Impact is, objectively, a better movie overall, but I find Armageddon's dialogue and characters incredibly endearing. I'm so torn!
The 90s were great for these types of movies (in my opinion) and another one that came out at the same time as this was Deep Impact. I like Armageddon more but Deep Impact is still very entertaining!
Deep Impact came out at the same time as this movie. It was another asteroid movie. But both are very different. Impact is more about emotions, family and amazing scenes. Armageddon is more of a fun action ride comedy, I mean it has its emotions to but it's not as deep as Impact was. Still I prefer Armageddon, it's my fav "End of the world" movie. Back then there were your typical summer flicks of just mindless action and fun.
on a completely different take on an asteroid disaster: Deep Impact they came out at the same time and people were disappointed with the lack of explosions like this one.
This film got panned hard by critics but this movie is still one if my favorite action films.. and dont wanna miss a thing is one of if not the biggest movie soundtrack song!
"Deep Impact" came out the same year and had a similar premise (Comet threatens Earth, Astronauts are sent up to blow it up with a bomb) but but was somewhat more realistic, had a bigger emphasis on character instead of action as well as a slower, more measured pace. In short, it focused more on the Impact (pardon) such an event has on people.
That was a weird year for these movies. I like them both for clearly different reasons. Even though 2012 had a different "villian" I think it mixed the two styles together well. Super cheese The Core is also on that list.
I am one of the biggest indie-critic-super-artsy film lovers around and I absolutely LOVE this movie - it crushes me with the action, music, comedy, and emotions...
It's cheesy as all hell but it's good cheese, like guda heh. This was back when Bay still knew how to make a spectacle that was actually fun and give us memorable characters as the same time.
One of the greatest movies ever made. If you ignore the plot and the lack of plausible science. But everything else is awesome.
You mean I should ignore the movie 🤣🤣🤣
I know right.... but people enjoy interstellar because of realism????
There's something wrong with your logic. Are you serious?

This cast is FULL of winners!!🌠
I saw both on the same weekend. 😄
@@Merecir Same. Parents wanted to see Deep Impact, I wanted Armageddon. Seen both the same day, one after another.
I really like "Knowing" ..... Because the Whole World gets Fried! ..... Only a few Kids get a Happy Ending!
Yoo one of my favorite movies..fun fact Aerosmiths music gets played a lot in this movie main reason his daughter is playing the daughter of harry
Russian components, American components...ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!! 😂😂
I love this movie ! Congrats from São Paulo, Brazil 👏!
on a completely different take on an asteroid disaster: Deep Impact
they came out at the same time and people were disappointed with the lack of explosions like this one.
this was my prefered of the 2, great film. Watched it many times.
This film got panned hard by critics but this movie is still one if my favorite action films.. and dont wanna miss a thing is one of if not the biggest movie soundtrack song!
I'm gonna be that person... bacteria would have survived this asteroid hit lol...
That movie is horrible compared to armageddon
That was a weird year for these movies. I like them both for clearly different reasons. Even though 2012 had a different "villian" I think it mixed the two styles together well.
Super cheese The Core is also on that list.
I like deep impact more. This one is fun too, but they are abit too "cool" for my taste. Settle it down abit.
@@tomre2769 baby frodo just doesn't sell me and the slow pace and sub par acting dont relay the stakes as much as this movie
It also contributed to the trend of "black President during the end of the world", in this case Morgan Freeman.
Check out Deep Impact, another asteroid movie that came out within a few months of Armageddon. Very cool movie.
You should absolutely check out Equilibrium with Christian Bale 2022. The Gun Kata will blow your mind!
