I just got my hands on a never driven Shelf Queen Durga Buggy (but just plain white body) with some TRF upgrades. After watching Glenn´s videos about the Durga, I decided, that I needed one on my shelf :)
Just put a drop of blue thread locker on the wheel nut. Used to happen on my Gen 8, the left front would start to loosen off. My WLToys 144001 launched a tire. Since I put thread locker on them they have been fine.
You can get a double slip clutch setup that will help with the belt issues, I use to run my on a carpet track with a single slipper but I ran a one-way for the front and never had a issue . Double slipper is more aimed for the track , I don't race my DB01 anymore I use it for speed runs running 3s and removed the slipper all together & one-way and hit 62.5 miles per . And also I have never changed my belts ( touch wood ) , it's 12 ish year of racing , bashing & speed run . Love your DB01 Glenn it look awesome buddy . 👍
If I've had a rounded grub screw I usually get away with using a Torx drive in it, sometimes you have to tap it into it before it bites but it usually works
Pimping there dude, deffo correct on less slop, RE the belt it will just be bedding in, I would think that using brushless would just exacerbate this process. Just keep an eye on the belt each time you run it and it will be fine. I used to race lads with Lazors, Dogfighters and Cats back in the day and they would always bed the belt in. Loving the MS KO Propo, used to race with a Ko Propo EX5 and the Tamiya CPR unit back in the day (like 1988-1991).
I use all of Kopropo product from controller, esc to servo.. not cheap.. but worth it.. fully programable.. that ms is by kopropo if iam not mistsken which is a rebadge of VFS.
To my mind - I’d run the belt as loose as I can get away with, without it jumping on the pulleys. Makes for less rolling resistance in the drive line and less stress on the lay shaft bearings. New belts will always settle and have some degree of stretch... the longer the belt - the more the stretch is apparent. I’d still tighten that slipper - if you were to run on grass it would be slipping too much.
Left side wheel nuts are the most likely to unscrew as forward rotation of the wheel matches anticlockwise, small spring washers also cure the problem:) a slight radius on polycarbonate square edges helps to prevent splits on the wing when accidentally inverted and sledging along tarmac! Don't know if this is relevant but over greased gears can cause excessive belt stretch!
I love the durga, if I had a store in my country selling the db-01r, rr, or rrr, then I'd buy one again..... But I won't hop up a car from the bottom again. I try to buy fully hopped up cars now.....=)
Nice upgrades, I really love that TRF paint job, it goes with the TRF motor. Have you tried gearing up (Larger pinion) on the 10.5t Brushless Motor? Keeping an eye on temperatures, In the process. Should be fun. Cheers
I had the same result on my db01rr (upgrade belts, If I'm right). I had to tight the front belt again. And my slipper clutch is harder than your. Don't really understand.
I've always had a fascination with the Durga! Couldn't tell you why. One thing though, those Shocks look like melted BUTTER!! So bloody smooth!! ❤😊😁😊 That front Belt is about as tight as you'd want to set it. It WILL stretch some. 😉 I'm a bit shocked at the adjustment system. I Raced for Team OFNA... The Drive Belts had an infinitely adjustable Idler Pulley. This is a top spec Bugga, no?? That one thing surprised me. 😲 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Hi Glenn been a long time since I commented but still loving the channel. I have been watching on my other UA-cam which is not signed in(Xbox) but just thought I'd say hi and thank for your quality content. Love ur running vids coz its real vintage rc hobby use 💖👊👊
Did you check the position when taking the front diff cover off? Was it still in the same position as it says in the manual? Never seen that, even if the slipper was too loose and got hot, it would be at least the same slack on the rear belt considering it's closer to the slipper. Could the K1 belt adjusters be the wrong way round allowing it to rotate? Otherwhise no clue 🤔
@@TAMIYALegends Come to think of it, the rear diff tended to slip a lot easier than the front on mine, maybe that took the edge off and stopped the rear belt from stretching.
Sometimes I had the feeling the octagon had spun within its seating. But was never shure about that. What sense does that octagon have anyway? As you said, circle and triangle markings do the job already, don't they?
Get a good set of hex drivers. MIP Thorp hex drivers are the best. The Tamiya ones in that set are ok in a pinch. I've had a set of MIP hex drivers for years and they still look like new.
You've got to sacrifice the pinion. Clamp the pinion in the vice, with the motor below. Then get a punch and a hammer, and hammer the end of the armature through the pinion. Very satisfying. Use a big hammer.

Your Tamiya Legends .....how can you be boring us? Awesome video, awesome channel 👍👊😎

What a video glen! I missed this one so I came back and watched!
Front belt looks on the tighter side, but not too tight. The belts will always stretch being rubber 👍
Thanks buddy I’ll see how this goes now it’s been adjusted 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Ah those grub screws! had a few over the years do the same to me and had to drill them out resulting in destroying the pinion gear with it.
Yeah I fear I’ll have to do the same Paul 😭😭😭
Whack a Torx drive in and normally they undo

Re rounded grub. Tab a small star screwdriver bit in. If you got one small enough. I come across this lots at work.

New belts break in and will stretch a bit at first. Totally normal.
Yeah that’s what I’m hoping has happened Brian 😅👊🏻
That goes great after the changes. Would be cool to see it run on a proper track if you happen to find one. 👍
RC Hobby Shed

I know this video is old, but have you tried the oil-filled diffs for the DB-01? I find they work a lot better and more reliably than the ball-diffs.

Thanks mate

Hi Glenn, What tyres are you running, are there different softnesses?
Not that I know of, standard dual blocks I think 🤔
TAMIYA Legends thanks. Do you need to glue them on?
That chassis and body must be one of the best looking Tamiya have ever produced.
Is the bodyshell painted by Craig?
Hey 👋🏻
No this one was done by AttackRC my friend 🤩🤩🤩
I don't suppose you have a spare slipper clutch kit laying around for DB01 kit at all? So hard to find any online at the moment

I have no problems with belts in DB-01. You have a slipper problem? Only problem i have is dirt getting inside gearboxes and "chewing" diff balls.
Oh interesting you mean the slipper has caused that belt to stretch 🤷🏼♂️

No unfortunately not, getting harder to find now and the cost has shot up 😬. Usually a few on eBay that’s about it 🤷🏼♂️
Tamiya know it? There are a good demand for old RC products? They should restart the production?

Yeah unfortunately Tamiya do what they want, I doubt we’ll see the DB01 again, but hopefully we might see a brand DB03 in the future 😎🤷🏼♂️
But every old RC products of tamiya deserve to be back in production!

Hey that brush motor matches the paint job.
that's the point... its TRF colours. its tamyia's racing eco system :D
Front belt is far too tight. Loosen it one notch back . Flip the front diff over which stops it from loosening

This aeration damper is an biggest disappointment for me. I should spend little more and get big bore buggy dampers.
Now you eventually have got to run it at that barnyard.
Come on put the motor on I want to see it run with it I want to see a nine turn run.
