I left Paiste a few years ago for Zildjian and Meinl. Paiste Dark energy made me come back to switzerland. Best Hi-hat I ever had. It consistently overwhelms all competitors in different trials I have gone through. Since I have the Dark energy it was really a game changer.
I play Paiste and have for yrs. I like the dark energy and color sound. They have a great sound. My favorite line is the 2002, love the sound of those cymbals.
Personally I like the Modern Essentials. Seem the most versatile if you're playing multiple genres. Each had it's own characteristics that would make them good for a specific genre.

Dark energy overall,but i do see where others would be better depending what your aiming for. Cool video and different,and of course saving us drummers money and headaches when searching for desired sounds! 🤠🥁

Nice demo! IMO the 602 Modern Essentials sound the best overall! $622 a pair though. The PST 7s aren’t terrible sounding and a fraction of the cost.

Modern essentials
You should consider adding a pair of dry hi hats to your arsenal the next time you get some. I have some 14" meinl extra dry, and they kinda have a shaker sound that comes from it, too. Sounds nice with ghost notes on the snare imo. I'm sure Paiste has something like that. Anyways, love your vids. Keep em coming!
@@koalaimpala25ive always wanted a pair of those hybrid types like the foundry reserve extra dry somethin or other. Theres a few in that category that they make that just seem sick. I also like some of those istanbul agop pairs
I wish those colour sounds sounded as good as they look they were pretty disappointing. The master are the clear winner I think
Definitely lean towards the Dark Energy in most tests!
I see why the 602 Modern Essentials as superior in other ways.
But, kinda surprised to not see a set of 15” 2002 Sound Edge hats in the mix.
My overall all-time favorites I think. They work in so many styles.
And being a session player for several decades I use various Bosphorus and Meinl hats too.
You definitely have your bases pretty well covered!
Having played both the Dark Energy & 900, They were my favorite (Dark Energy #1).. Absolutely stunned the ME's came in last place for me (The 900 heavy is my favorite Paiste hi-hat, so much so I bought one last year) and I'm not beholden to any one brand 😉. Thanks for doing this 🙏
My favorite are the 14 medium thin traditionals
They all sound the best. Its all about how they sound and how you coax it iut of them.or what you specifically play to use their strengths. I still have a oair of zbt hi hats that i beat the living fuhk out of and i think most would say they sound pretty good, much better than when brand new
Out of those ones, I like the Dark Energy the best. But my favourite Paiste hi-hats are either the 2002 heavy hi-hats, or the Rude hi-hats. I flip back and forth on which set I prefer all the time.

I think I prefer the Dark Energy, I even own a pair, as well as 14" Signature medium, Signature Dark Crisp and 602 Sound Edge... I thought the Dark Energy would be "the one", but they feel a bit too thick, I might prefer Signature/Signature Dark Crisp... also, why doesn't every hihat bottom have a little hole to prevent air-lock...
The DE MK1 just remind me of my old Alpha hats.
I prefer Sabian hats, even though I'm a Paiste Stan.

I became a Paiste-guy since I got a 20" Paiste Dark Energy mk2 ride, it's such a great cymbal, no need for another ride... then I got a 16" Signature Full Crash, cheap because it had a little crack, and fell in love, to me it's just what a crash should sound like. Then Signature hihats, which I found to be also like an archetype of what a hihat should sound like. And later I've gotten a bunch of different Signature and DE cymbals, should start selling off what I don't need... Later I also found out that my fav drummers Bill Bruford and Danny Carey also use Paiste Signature and DE cymbals, which is nice :D

I m surprised myself but i m gonna go with the 900 s .
I think it all comes down to preference and how schooled your hearing is.
I didn't want to like it, but the color sound is the most balanced and articulate.

Ya gotta get a better mic. The ead seems to work well when its all being played together. But just playing the hats, makes em all sound kinda shltty honestly
Why do those cymbals sound so thin and cheap...?
pls, you dont suck @ all, your test is good it just misses the footsplash funtion and tilting also can give more intense sound. paiste is just typically focussed on loud misic (hard)rock like iron maiden. it just misses the dynamics of zil-avedis series (13 inch) but please stop immedeatly with talking yourself into the ground. thanks for your video that makes directly clear that paiste only cares bout greed cause in the 90s they sold the vision series and out of the blue they now call them color sounds ???
