Great tip painting the braided line 💡
Thank you!
Your right about that humming. LOL.
Drives me nuts!
Yes!!
I have that same downrigger. I have no complaints with it, but then, I'm new at all this and trying to **learn so, having never used a downrigger before, I really have nothing to compare it to! Maybe I don't know what I'm missing!? **Though I'm on the opposite coast in western NC, your channel has been a tremendous help to me, at least to shortcut around a lot of beginner mistakes. Keep 'em coming!
It’s a solid unit!
excellent vid cal. thanks mate.
Great video .. seems like your normal .. they're always great. I use two lake trollers on my pro angler. And I use the shuttle hawks from Gary up in Redding. I guess he sold out to Mack's though. In lakes like New Meloines and Lake Sonoma - fish are frequently around 60-70 feet in the summer/fall. While I'm fighting the fish - the shuttle hawk is waiting for me on the surface when I'm ready. Many times - I catch fish while the shuttle hawk is heading down. On my boat - I have 4 scotty's - two electric. I still use the shuttle hawks on those. With Steelhead - sometimes you don't even know they're on the line. BUT - the fishfinder shows the shuttle hawk heading up - then we wait for the sign, bass especially - will just swim along with the boat. hahahahaha ..
Awesome…!I need a couple of those!!
If it works then love it. You can always stop using it after a couple of fish. Lol
Hahaha yes!
I use a 3oz ball weight using a poor man's down rigger. Set my lines out to 45 feet and slow troll at 2 mph. Great video. 👍
Awesome!
How deep does a 3oz ball weight bring you?
@@Cupcakeskitchen 45-75 ft
How did you connect the wire line onto the braided line? Did you cut off the clip on the wire and tie on a swivel?
I used a fluorescent orange paint pen for 10-30-50-70ft and black at 20-40-60 on my braided line. After a year or longer may need to repaint🖌
Nice!!!!
Hey Cal, I love my Scotty downrigger. i use a home made 3 lb weight that works great for me in my Hobie compass, also i just watch my fish finder when lowering my setup tells me right where my weight is in the water . I put a 2 small plates under my scotty base inside my kayak that makes it really soild and helps when bring up my down rigger. Any ways have you ever thought about making a 6' rod for down riggers in a kayak .
Awesome!!
If you ever want to try something different you might want to try a Chamberlain release clip. So adjustable for different gear setups. Thanks for the video
I’ve heard of those. May try them in the future. Thanks
Great video cal, when the bite is hot do you ever just switch over to a shuttle hawk? The heck with all that cranking up all day 🤣
I've used them in the past...I've got to get a new one I think!
Great vid - thanks! What downriggers do you have on your pontoon boat?
Canon electrics...With braided line and 8 lb weights...
As far as measuring your depth - don't forget - you're using a 30-36" lead on your clip. When you add tension - that causes your lure/worm to come up about 15" .. maybe a bit more/less. So - if you're wanting to be at 30 feet .. you need to drop it to about 32 feet. Right ?
Totally agree….. I’m guessing my bait is maybe 4 feet from the bottom of the weight
Where do you get one of those mega-snubbers?
is it weird if i like the sound of the hum 😂
Lol
Not a fair comparison on the Downrigger weight, go 1 pound more on the cannonball weight then compare
Well I'm not a huge downrigger weight nut...At the end of the day it's just a weight....I'd switch back to a round weight with total confidence.....
Why not just use your fish finder to tell you where your downrigger weight is?
I can’t always see it on the screen….
