    I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.

    Thanks Cal I've definitely caught alot of fish with the dropper balls! Just upgraded to the 2nd scottys downrigger, still carrying the dropper setups on board tho!

    Awesome Brother
    Thanks for what u do
    I’m going trolling this Sunday morning for my very first time
    (2nd time but I’m not counting my first time 🤦‍♂️ that’s when I realized that I needed to watch more videos and pay attention 😂)

    I use a slider rig in my kayak and about 48 inches of leader. Works like a dream every time. I love pulling a naked slow death hook with a threaded worm. You can go natty or scented plastic. It all works if it spins.

    I will try your setup Cal 👍🏽
    I just saw your buddy in the cool green FishSniffer boat at Folsom lake on Sunday🎣 Paul had 3 Kings up to 19in caught at 35ft. Another fishing boat also had 3 Kings🐟🐟🐟. Don’t ask how many I caught ☹️😜

    Another great, informative video! I actually rigged that sliding set up thinking I was being super innovative, lol. I liked the look of those sliders in the package and figured they might work somehow. I was just thinking what you said about directly feeling a bite and still being able to reel to the net from my kayak. I caught my first trout from the kayak with it the other day at Ice House trailing a night crawler. He wasn’t too big and I was able to feel that bite trolling around 1 mph.

    I haven't rigged up a slider yet, but I've been using a barrel swivel then a bead on my main line for a while and it works great. I go too heavy on my weights (6oz) too when fishing for kokanee to get down faster. The barrel swivel has no resistance on the line. When a fish hits, the lone moves freely through the swivel.
    Below the bead I've got a nice snap swivel to attach to my leaders. My leaders start with a 4-6 bead swivel, 3 foot to 4 foot of leader, then I can attach my dodger and my squid, wedding ring, or my home made tube flies.
    I haven't taken the barrel swivel off since I rigged it up. I just leave it on when I attach directly to a large diving crankbait, or to a set of cowbells. When I fish for walleye, I can attach the snap swivel directly to a bottom bouncer, and then have my crawler rig leader an appropriate length.
    My rods are set up to do a variety of fishing without having to change rods or line. They're ugly stick striper trolling rods, with Abu Garcia level wind reels, rigged with 20lb monofilament. Kokanee don't care about what's in front of the dodger, so my leaders are 10lb flouro and dodgers to squid are 6lb flouro. 20lb is plenty for trolling for medium sized lake trout and even doing some catfishing where im at.

    Great tip. Thinking about trying this out in my kayak. Which brand sinker slide is that? I like the longer length compared to what I usually see.

    Good video! How would you rig with the sliding weight for Kokanee? (Since you have to get down deep - I'm a yaker)

    I've had pretty good luck using bottom bouncers even if I'm not trying to get all the way to the bottom

    I use the slider, except I use a bobber stop instead of a trolling swivel. Then I can change the distance between my dodger and weight on the fly

    I’m trying to get into trolling buck tail jigs since the cost of deep diving crankbaits has sky rocketed over the last few years. Anyhow, if you need to add weight, can’t you just add another buck tail jig and run 2 jigs to get them to run deeper?

    I'm no physicist, but isn't the 3-way swivel the same as the rudder with a short lead hanging off it?

    • @FHSTackle
      @FHSTackle  7 годин тому

      The rudder prevents oscillating

  • @trbarret
    @trbarret Рік тому

    The rudder is the best method as it keeps your line from twisting, just add the dropper to your rudder.

    I find your leader should not be longer than your rod lienth so you can net your fish easier when your bead stop hits the tip.

    • @FHSTackle
      @FHSTackle  3 роки тому

      True, but we have a 10' net in the boat. It doesn't work very well in the kayaks.

      I like my leader 1 or 2 ft. Shorter than whatever rod I'm using like you said before the bead gets to the rod tip , my confidence level is high with my net man despite the time his uv damaged old net had a large buck King Salmon punch through it ! broke the line and got away I laughed so hard almost fell outa the boat!

    I have to disagree I’ve lived and fished Alaska for 40 year! I’ve always used banana trolling weights for as long, and fighting a fish has never been an issue! I don’t care where you put the weight the fish has to carry it, inline or hanging it doesn’t matter! And when you reel it in the fish your feelings the weight so does the fish!! Banana weights come in a large variety of sizes and they work! I think that so many fishermen over think stuff to much time wasted thinking not fishing!! I mean there designed to and for trolling!! But there’s always someone with a better mouse trap!🤣!!

      Agree. Grew up salmon fishing in Puget Sound/NW coast and banana lead are perfect for this. In fact I use 1 ouncers now. Not sure if they’re widely available here but can get them online for sure

      I guess to each his own. What works in Uganda May not necessarily work in Libya-and etc.

    Keep it simple two leaders are not better than one banana weights can be casted or free spooled out of a moving boat!
