Agree, braid. I use a snubber w/ 6lb ball on the Scotty and actually cut about 4” off the boom. I consider the snubber a safety component and will not run a rigger without it. It’s directly mounted to my boat so it doesn’t touch unless I’m hard turning left. Lastly, I glued a v-belt onto the spool, backed it with mono like a reel so I get about an extra 5” per turn. It’s an aggressive set up but as you pointed out, blow back is real. Couple videos ago you talked about positioning j plug immediately behind flasher- successful tip, thanks!!!

I use the scotty and appreciate its durability and compact design which doesn’t clutter up the kayak. On all rigs I wish it had a built in manual counter. Agree that it’s a great idea to switch to braided line.

Great video and great points. The torpedo almost seems so much easier biggest factor though like you said is fighting the fish with that thing still on the line.
Yeah pretty much. They both have Pro/Cons so it really comes down to what the individual values more. I will say that if I was peddling I'd for sure stick to Torpedo's only. In a motor, you can get away with a rigger much easier.
It’s possible to run the slightly bigger manual Scotty 1050 depthmaster if you shorten the boom. I have it on my 120pdl and it’s so much nicer because it has the lever release instead of the knob. I absolutely hated my Scotty mini troller it was such a pain to let out and reel in. I also use a 6lb pow fish weight.

Look up POW-R-BAIT downrigger weight I've started out with the exact same one you had switched to a 4lb POW and what a difference it's unbelievable
