    If you put the cake in the freezer after putting the buttercream it'll set firm and allow you to scrape it to make the levels even. A lot easier and faster ❤

    I use the viva cloth type paper towel, which has a very smooth texture, on my cakes to smooth them and ut works amazingly! Just place the smoothest side of the paper towel down on the cake and use the fondant spreader to smooth it. If you use a Tbls or two of meringue powder in your frosting, it helps to be able to smooth it almost immediately.

    I used a foam paint roller and that worked great.

    Amazing work, just wondering do you think it would work if after smoothing the buttercream with your hands, you stick the cake in the fridge or freezer without peeling the wax paper, and peeling it after? Maybe it would prevent all those pointy ends, just a thought 😊

      Perla I am honestly am not sure. If it didn’t stick, it would be great. I’ll have to try it. I don’t think trying would hurt anything. If it didn’t work, you’re no worse off than before

    Do have a video of making the Army logo? I need to make one and I would love some instruction.

      I don’t - but all you need to do is print out the logo in the size you need and use it to cut and trace onto thin gum paste or fondant. Just take your time and keep it thin. Also, if you use fondant be careful it isn’t too soft or it will get all stretchy and you can loose some shape. Good luck!

    How do you make the piece on top? The army star and boarder?

      Donna Volquardsen I just googled the star and found an image I liked. Printed it, cut it out and used the cutout on gumpaste

    How do you make your black buttercream?

    • @CaketasticCakes
      @CaketasticCakes  5 років тому +1

      It kinda depends on what you can get away with. If you need to retain a vanilla flavor, you're gonna add a ton of black food coloring. Like, a ton. I won't make cakes with black vanilla icing any more since the taste actually changes from all the black you need to add. In this case, the amount is so small, it's ok and you can get away with it. If the amount of black icing you use is going to be a lot, you make chocolate icing first, then add black food coloring till you get the right shade. I use wilton gel food coloring, btw. Sorry it took me a while to respond - I was swamped this week!

      I would think you use black food coloring.

      Make a chocolate buttercream and then add the black food coloring.
